"King and Attendant" (おうじゅうしゃ Ō to Jūsha) is the third chapter of the Magistus arc of the Yu-Gi-Oh! OCG Stories manga, and the twenty-second chapter of the series overall. It was first published on March 21, 2024, in the V Jump magazine.

Crowley, Rilliona, and Endymion go out on a field trip to practice elemental magic. Eventually, the topic of their discussions drifts to the reason why Endymion, a royal heir, relinquished the throne to his younger brother.

Summary[edit]

A boy is observing Graybeard from a distance using binoculars, while perched in a tree. He is suddenly startled by the sight of Aleister Crowley hanging upside down right in front of his binoculars. Crowley asks the boy if he is okay and if he has business there. The boy insists he has no business, begs Crowley not to tell anybody that he saw him, and runs away.

The boy stops near a stream to catch his breath. He worries that he has compromised the secrecy of his mission to keep an eye on Endymion. He recalls that he was told to read a memo when he got into trouble and takes out a slip of paper containing a pentagram symbol and some text. He recites the text and becomes entranced, focused on his mission concerning Endymion.

Crowley returns to his home and hangs his bag onto what he believes to be a rack, but it turns out to be Endymion disgusted that he made such a mix up. Crowley is shocked and asks what he is doing in his house, but Endymion simply grabs him by the collar and says to come with him.

Endymion drags Crowley through the countryside by a stream, where Rilliona watches them from the opposite side. The trio arrive at a large boulder and Endymion asks if it is part of some new research. However Endymion has put his research on pause, believing research done in times of peace to be of no use in times of need. Recollecting the incident from a few days ago, he says that he should focus on honing his offensive magic.

Since Crowley had previously claimed to be sensitive to the flow of magic power, Endymion grants him special authority to advise him on his magic. He then casts his "Thor Hammer" spell, causing the boulder to be struck by a blast of electricity, leaving a crater on its top. Rilliona is impressed, but Crowley critiques that it was lacking in style, sloppy, and that Endymion did not seem to be focused on how he wielded his power. Endymion is not impressed by the feedback and points his staff at Crowley, while he has it loaded for an attack.

Crowley goes on to explain that elemental magic is about the right person being in the right place at the right time with the right climate and terrain. An illustration of planets and a moon circling a star is shown as he describes this. He further explains that because there are so many factors involved, one has to simply feel it and using the appropriate amount of magic in that moment will synergize with the natural energy and increase its power. Crowley gives an example of what he was describing; Since there is wind blowing in from the forest, he says that wind elemental magic is more effective than thunder in this environment, as he casts a "Cyclone" spell, which completely shatters the boulder.

The next day, Crowley has some sandwiches prepared and goes outside to find a place where magical power gathers. As soon as he steps out of his house, he is greeted by Endymion and Rilliona, who insist they will be accompanying him today.

Rilliona points out that Crowley has not been hanging out much with Korozo lately. He replies that Korozo has not been too lively since the day the incident at the dried-up spring. Endymion advises Crowley against letting his guard down around Korozo, since they saw the form Korozo took after absorbing the magical power from the other world. He wonders why that happened and Rilliona asks if he is suggesting Korozo is also from another world. Crowley says the notion crossed his mind, but if it were to be the case then it would prove that not all spirits that come from another world have ill intent and that he has never detected a shred of evil magic from Korozo. Endymion theorizes that Korozo demonstrating that power in response to Crowley being in danger might be because of a specific purpose, but insists the theory is nothing more than conjecture.

Rilliona did not follow what was being said, but says that thinking about it is making her hungry. Crowley suggests having lunch and opens the food he prepared only to notice neither of his companions brought any food. He sighs and shares his sandwiches, telling them that they are unprepared for fieldwork. He notes that he could not expect much since both of them are of royal descent.

The mention of royal descent prompts Rilliona to ask Endymion again why he gave up being king. He replies that he was fed up with their arrogant ways and relinquished his claim to the throne to his younger brother. Rilliona teases him about the tendency of royalty to act high and mighty, inquiring why he no longer acts like that. Endymion suggests that she stay out of other people's business when she is unwilling to talk about her own. But Rilliona is fascinated by other people's secrets, so he agrees to tell her, adding that it is not much of a secret anyway.

Endymion recalls that since he was little, he had a servant, named Ropo, who was always by his side. One day Ropo was upset and when Endymion asked, he confided that his mother had died of an illness and that his family had been too poor to afford to see a doctor. Endymion was surprised that he had not been told about this sooner, but that was the norm for people like Ropo; Servants were not permitted to ask things of their master. Since that day, Endymion came to believe that all people should be equal by nature. He felt that ensuring that equality was the first step to ensuring prosperity and that was what he had in mind when he began his magical research.

Crowley suspects that must be why Endymion came to Graybeard, but Endymion corrects him and claims that it was because nobody in the town knew who he was, enabling him to fully immerse himself in his research.

Crowley is reminded of they boy he saw earlier and tells the others about it. He mentions that the boy looked like a soldier and had a crest with a sword and axe on it. Endymion thinks he recognizes the crest from that description, but an arrow suddenly shoots through Crowley's sandwich pinning it to the ground.

Endymion quickly grabs Crowley and Rilliona and takes them behind a bush for cover. They look around and do not see anyone, but Endymion says it will not be easy to spot the person if they are a sharpshooter. However he has another plan. He sticks his staff into the ground and calls upon the trees of the forest to capture the sharpshooter. Endymion had previously left traces of magic in the trees they passed, intending to use them as a trail to find their way home later. However he now uses the magic to make the trees move their roots around and ensnare the shooter, whom he recognizes as Ropo.

Evil magic from another world emanates from Ropo causing him don armor and break free. He curses and attacks Endymion, who suspects Ropo is being controlled. Crowley reminds Endymion that he cannot hurt his friend and Endymion agrees. Remembering what Crowley said earlier about elemental magic and the right person in the right place, he tries to feel the flow of magical power. However Crowley says that there is no flow right now as all the nearby natural magical power was sucked up by Ropo. In that case Endymion opts to make some. He casts a "Towering Walls" spell to restrict Ropo's movement, then conjures a fireball and finally casts the "Double Cyclone" spell. Crowley is impressed that Endymion used wind and fire elemental magic to power each other up and that his spell only burned away the evil magic. Although Crowley is still worried about how magical power from another world leaked through so easily.

Ropo returns to his normal self and is surprised to hear that he was being controlled. He suspects it was the doing of the prince, Endymion's brother. Rilliona and Endymion wonder why the prince would send somebody to kill his brother, despite him already abdicating his spot in the line of succession. Endymion suspects his brother is foolish and fears him.

Ropo bows to the ground and begs for forgiveness. Endymion tells him to remain in contact with the home country as if nothing happened and pass all orders that he receives back to him and to keep it a secret from the prince.

The narration says that Crowley's concerns were spot-on and cuts to a scene of Theurgy, while saying that he had no idea just how close their world, Astrodia, was coming to another world.
