Appearance[edit]

Personality[edit]

Crowley is a young boy who has a cheery and bright outlook on life. Enjoying the use of magic, Crowley has an open mind about what magic can do, and what can be achieved with it compared to Endymion, who had a stricter view of magic. While Crowley can be somewhat rash and optimistic, especially when focused on his research or being excited at the thought of fighting powerful magic users, Spoon describes Crowley as one with no grudges against the world. This outlook was caused by Crowley's relationship with his adoptive grandfather, a retired scholar who raised him, did not judge or shun Crowley for his magic, and advised Crowley that if magic users do good, then those with magic may be seen in a better light.

Also, for all of Crowley's eccentrics, he's very studious when researching magic and studies both magical energy and scientific knowledge. Going to different locations to get a layout of the land and observing environmental factors as research for what spells to use which surprises even Endymion.

Abilities[edit]

Crowley is a talented magic user who obtains the rank of Magistus. Crowley's magic and research study concerns "invocation", the summoning of spirits from different worlds.

Crowley is sensitive to disturbances in magic power and is capable of tracking down where the disruption lies and distinguishing between the magic power of his world, Astrodia, and that of other worlds. Crowley can conjure magic circles which can absorb magic power for later use. However his magic circles explode if too much power is absorbed and if misused can unintentionally fuse smaller spirits.

Crowley is knowledgeable in what spells to use when in battle, claiming that using a specific elemental magic within certain situations can synergize with the natural magic power to obtain a boost.

Crowley's spells include:

  • "Cyclone": A wind-based spell that, when used in the right conditions, could destroy an entire boulder that Endymion's lightning spell, "Thor Hammer", could only damage slightly.

Alongside Rilliona, Endymion, and Zoroa, Crowley can also call upon a guardian deity, Aiwass, to lend him power.

Biography[edit]

Crowley as a baby, in the forest, being protected by Korozo

As a baby, Crowley was left in a basket in the woods. Despite there being wild animals present, he was protected by the spirit, Korozo, until he was found by a retired scholar, who assumed the role of a surrogate grandfather.[1]

Korozo, who was only visible to Crowley, stuck with him through his life. Crowley would sometimes be mistaken as being talking to himself when speaking to Korozo and some people would dismiss Korozo as being imaginary.[1]

Crowley receives advice from his grandfather.

Crowley was considered to have gotten a good upbringing and he grew into an honest young man with no grudges against the world. The fact that he was raised by an individual open to magic, meant he grew up not being shunned for his magical abilities, which was commonly seen as a cause for worry in the world. Crowley's grandfather taught him that special powers depend entirely on their wielder and can be used for both good and evil. So he felt it was important for spellcasters such as Crowley to work for the good of the people so that they might one day look differently upon them. When his grandfather died, Crowley was brought to Graybeard, which was a haven for spellcasters.[1]

One day, Crowley, accompanied by Korozo, climbed up a rock formation onto a plateau with a flowery meadow. Crowley made a note that he must remember the place. He could significantly feel the flow of magic power and decided to gather it to create some impressive magic. He drew a symbol onto a piece of paper and let it blow away. Afterward, magic power gathered in a circle around it. However, too much magic power was drawn together, which caused an explosion-like reaction. The effects were felt elsewhere as it interfered with Endymion's magic-power-crystalization experiment.[1]

Crowley and Rilliona were both scolded by Endymion later for each interfering with his experiments. Shortly after, Crowley questioned if the others had felt that the flow of magic power had become much more unstable recently. He explained that he was studying "invocation summoning magic"; and that he follows the path of magic power that flows into this world and summons forth spirits from another world. He theorized that there are two types of magic power; one that forms from life energy and one that flows into this world from another. However, Endymion thought the ideas of another world and summoning spirits were ridiculous. Crowley tried to argue that such spirits were real, citing Korozo as an example, which Endymion dismisses as being an imaginary animal. Zoroa and Spoon were more open-minded to Crowley's ideas and the importance of investigating all fields of magic. However, Crowley fell asleep at this point.[1]

Crowley inadvertently aids in Cocytus being fused

The next day Crowley was awoken by Korozo who noticed some strange magic power. Accompanied by Endymion and Rilliona, Crowley traced the source of the abnormal magic power to a dried-up spring in the forest. Crowley suspected the magic power was from another world and attempted to contain it with a magical circle. However, this caused the tadpole-like shapes within the magic power to fuse and form, Cocytus, a spirit summoned from another world. Crowley was happy to have his theories proven right, but the spirit proceeded to attack them. Attempts to fight back were futile until Korozo absorbed all the other-world magic power, causing the other spirit to disappear and Korozo to change shape. Korozo reverted to their normal form shortly afterward and collapsed into Crowley's hands.[1]

Crowley caught Lopo off guard, while Lopo was observing Graybeard with a pair of binoculars, causing him to fall from a tree. Crowley asked if he was okay and if he had business there. Lopo insisted he was not doing anything, but begged Crowley not to tell anyone he saw him before running away.[2]

Endymion sought advise on his magic from Crowley and dragged him to a large boulder that he proceeded to damage with his lightning-based "Thor Hammer" spell. Crowley was critical and explained that elemental magic is about the right person being in the right place at the right time with the right climate and terrain. To illustrate, he pointed out that there was wind blowing in the forest and cast his wind-based "Cyclone" spell, which completely shattered the boulder. As Crowley shared his lunch with Endymion and Rilliona, they were attacked by Lopo who was being controlled by evil magic from another world. Endymion made use of what Crowley told him about effective use of elemental magic to burn away the evil magic, returning Ropo to normal. Crowley was impressed, but concerned about how the magic power had so easily leaked in from the other world.[2]

Rilliona showed a crystalline meteorite she purchased Crowley, Endymion, Zoroa, and Spoon. Crowley spotted an image inside the stone, which Endymion magnified and projected. Crowley recognized the mountain in the image and Spoon was able to create a portal to take them all there. Crowley complained about the cold, but sensed a great magic power, which the group followed into a cavern, where they found Theurgy,[3] the gate to other worlds.[4]

Crowley, Endymion, Rilliona, and Zoroa all eventually became Magistus. However, Zoroa betrayed the others and manipulated them into opening Theurgy. This was to result in a flow of magic power into their world. Crowley, Rilliona and Endymion attempted to combine their powers to close Theurgy, but were confronted by Zoroa. Crowley and Endymion pointed out that the flow of magic power would result in many deaths and Crowley asked what happened to the Zoroa they once knew. He replied that the search for truth trumps all and that that he thought Crowley of all people would understand that. Unable to reason with him, they prepared to fight and Crowley was excited by the prospect of battling such a powerful spellcaster. Zoroa attacked the trio and they fought back by calling on their guardians deities to grant them power. Aiwass was called in the case of Crowley.[4]
