Japan is the originating country for Yu-Gi-Oh!. There the card game is called the Yu-Gi-Oh! Official Card Game - or OCG for short - a name which it shares with other Asiatic countries. Yu-Gi-Oh! manga series, anime series, cards, promotional materials and video games are typically released in Japan first before they are distributed to other markets.
