Card Tips:Dark Armed Dragon

  • "Dark Armed Dragon" is so effective, it has its own tournament-winning deck, briefly summarized below.
    • Use "Destiny Draw", discarding "Destiny HERO - Malicious" from your hand. Then, use "Malicious's" effect to Special Summon a second copy of itself from the Deck, chaining "Emergency Teleport" to Special Summon "Krebons" from your Deck as well. Tune "Malicious" and "Krebons" together, Synchro Summoning any Level 8 Synchro Monster, and you will have 2 DARK monsters in the Graveyard for "Dark Armed Dragon" to use. As for the third DARK monster:
      • You can use "Foolish Burial" to send it to the Graveyard;
      • You can use "Dark Grepher's" Special Summoning cost;
      • You can summon "Armageddon Knight" (remember, you can still Normal Summon) and activate his effect;
      • In previous formats, you could use a second "Emergency Teleport" and Banish "Malicious" from your Graveyard to get another Level 8 Synchro Monster, providing the fodder for "Dark Armed Dragon".
  • Discard a level 5 or higher DARK monster to Special Summon "Dark Grepher", then activate its effect, discarding a DARK monster to send another from your Deck to your Graveyard, thus setting the 3-monster requirement to summon this card.
  • This card work well with "Evil Thorn": Activate the effect of "Evil thorn"; tribute it and inflict 300 damage to your opponent, then Special Summon up to other two cards with the same name, send the card(s) to the Graveyard, and if you have exactly the 3 required DARK Monsters in the Graveyard , you can Special the "Dark Armed Dragon" from your hand.
    • "Maniacal Servant" also helps but doesn't become a beatstick like "Prometheus, King of the Shadows"
  • If you have a "Mystic Tomato" or "Giant Germ" on your field, you can attack your opponent's monster with them to achieve the requirement for "Dark Armed Dragon's" summoning easily at the cost of some Life Points and your Battle Phase.
  • You can use "A Wingbeat of Giant Dragon" to return "Dark Armed Dragon" to your hand and destroy all Spell and Trap Cards then Special Summon "Dark Armed Dragon" and use is effect to destroy your opponent's monsters.
  • This card works well with "Dark Crusader" as you can keep discarding cards from your hand using "Dark Crusader's" effect and powering him up, and use "Dark Armed Dragon's" effect to destroy all cards on the field.
  • If you banish a powerful DARK monster to destroy an opponent's card you can use "Escape from the Dark Dimension" to bring it back for some extra damage.
  • You can OTK with "Montage Dragon" and "Dark Armed Dragon". Discard three DARK monsters with "Montage Dragon" (whose ATK totals at least 5200) then Special Summon "Dark Armed Dragon", clear your opponent's field, and attack your opponent for game.
  • If your graveyard has more than 3 DARK monsters anytime, you can use "Bazoo the Soul-Eater" to adjust the number of DARK monsters.
  • You can use this card very well with both effects of "Lavalval Chain".

Stopping Dark Armed Dragon

  • To be summoned, "Dark Armed Dragon" needs 3 DARK monsters in the Graveyard. To activate its destruction effect, it has to be able to Banish from the Graveyard. "Imperial Iron Wall" can counter its effect.
  • "Dimensional Fissure" and "Macro Cosmos" prevents monsters from entering the Graveyard, thus preventing both summoning (if the opponent doesn't have 3 DARK monsters) or further destruction if "Dark Armed Dragon" is already in play.
  • "Soul Release" banishes cards from the graveyard, preventing both summoning and destruction.
  • When "Koa'ki Meiru Drago" is face up on the field LIGHT and DARK Monsters can't be Special Summoned so "Dark Armed Dragon" can't be summoned.
  • Summon "Kycoo the Ghost Destroyer" and equip him with "Mist Body". "Kycoo's" effect will prevent your opponent from banishing cards in their own graveyard, ergo they will not be able to activate "Dark Armed Dragon's" effect to destroy cards on the field, unless your opponent activates "Mystical Space Typhoon" first.
  • "Book of Moon" will not stop his effect, but "Dark Armed Dragon" has only 1000 DEF meaning most monsters can destroy it.
  • You can use "A Major Upset" to stop this card. This only makes sense if the number of DARK monsters in graveyard changed and your opponent won't be able to just resummon his "Dark Armed Dragon". For instance, you can activate "A Major Upset" as a chain to your opponent destroying it with "Dark Armed Dragon"s" effect.
    • Be warned, however, as this requires a level 1 or 2 monster.
  • "Archlord Kristya" stops all special summons, so if your opponent can't get around a 2800 monster without special summoning, they will not be able to "special" summon "Dark Armed Dragon" .

Traditional Format

  • This card works well with "Cold Wave". You can destroy your opponent's Spell and Trap Cards without risking their activation.
  • In a Disaster Dragon deck, playing "Future Fusion" while "Dark Armed Dragon" is in your hand can easily set up a possible OTK. "Future Fusion" can send five Dragon-Type monsters to the Graveyard. Two of them would be "Red-Eyes Darkness Metal Dragons", another two would be "Red-Eyes Wyverns", and the final one would be another DARK Dragon-Type monsters such as "Dark Horus". After activation and all five Dragon-Type monsters are in your Graveyard, Special Summon "Dark Armed Dragon", then set some cards face down for protection, and then end your turn and banish two "Red-Eyes Wyverns", which will Special Summon both "Red-Eyes Darkness Metal Dragons". On your next turn, you can Special Summon even more Dragon-Type monsters.
  • If your graveyard has too many DARK monsters you can use:
