Forum:Deck Contest 34: Destruction of the Inferno!

From Yugipedia
Jump to: navigation, search

This contest should be self-explanatory and is following with the new tradition of making deck contests about the latest released booster pack. Some of the cards in this pack are just too crazy and look really good candidates for a deck contest, so without further ado, let's jump into the flames!

Guidelines

  • All OCG and TCG cards are fine, as long as it has an effect.
  • This contest will be in September 1st, 2012 Banlist.
  • You may not add/remove any decks from the Registration Area.
  • You will be given maybe 1 day if you are late to post, after that, you're out.
  • Due December 3rd, 2012. (A little bit more than a week, but it's a few extra days as people may be busy with the holidays)

Topics to Choose from

I suggest you all look through the cards in Cosmo Blazer. There are support cards for some of these cards in that set.

Only 1 contestant per deck/theme/card, seeing as we have so many, if we have more than 10 contestants, I'll increase the number of contestants allowed, but we should have enough choices for everyone to have some fun.

N.B. All the topics were picked based on either their effect, general theme of play, or how cool their artwork looked (Inaribi and Dire Wolf), remember that you will actually have to use a card's effect as a main pillar in your overall game plan if you choose a single card.

Comments? Questions? Complaints?

  • Ooooh a lot of participants. I like it ----SharkTenjo 00:03, November 24, 2012 (UTC)

Not about the competition, but about the wiki in general. When I added my name it kept badgering me to sign with 4 tildes, but I noticed that everyone else's name is fine. Not really a problem, just curious.MachoCheez (talkcontribs) 00:30, November 24, 2012 (UTC)

Yea that happened to me too. No choice to sign it -_- ----SharkTenjo 00:34, November 24, 2012 (UTC)
I don't get that because I did the following:
"There is also a way to personally disable it by adding var signCheck = "Disable"; to Special:MyPage/common.js. - Falzer" Remember to include everything from the var to the semicolon, then paste that onto the MyPage/common.js, then refresh your browser cache. ---Dark Ace SP (Talk) 01:32, November 24, 2012 (UTC)

I believe it won't prompt you if you choose "Minor Edit". --Gadjiltron (talkcontribs) 01:40, November 24, 2012 (UTC)

I didn't try that, although I personally prefer it to not be on at all, since I have a habit of signing my edits. ---Dark Ace SP (Talk) 02:15, November 24, 2012 (UTC)

Thanks for the suggestions guys. MachoCheez (talkcontribs) 03:15, November 24, 2012 (UTC)

I would have proposed running Generation Force for the Xyz Tribal deck but...well, anyways, I luv all of the decks, I just can't decide who to vote for! ^-^--Let the Number take hold! 10:08, December 1, 2012 (UTC)

I actually thought Force would be dead at times, and I wanted to avoid as many dead cards as possible, so Gold Sarc worked as the next best thing. ---Dark Ace SP (Talk) 14:21, December 1, 2012 (UTC)

Is criticism allowed during the Contest? The "Fist of Fury" deck by BROOKLYN RAGE! looks pretty inconstant. Too much unnecessary monsters. In OCG it is played like that: http://shriek.twoday.net/stories/219025672/ --TheGallisMan (talkcontribs) 14:39, December 1, 2012 (UTC)

I didn't know we were going to Japan to win a tournament, I thought we've gathered here to make decks for fun and show how good some underrated cards can be. Silly me.--Let the Number take hold! 14:54, December 1, 2012 (UTC)
Usually I put up another page after the contest and voting for the contestants to discuss the decks they saw, and give out constructive criticism. Even if this is a contest for pure fun, it's not a bad idea to at least make sure the deck is consistent over many test games, so if the builder seems fine with it, we should accept the deck. ---Dark Ace SP (Talk) 14:59, December 1, 2012 (UTC)

So if DSAX doesn't do the Diawolf deck by tomorrow he'll be disqualified and we'll move on with no deck?--Let the Number take hold! 09:44, December 3, 2012 (UTC)

Pretty much it. It happens all the time. --E.G.G. (My Contributions) 12:56, December 3, 2012 (UTC)

The due date has been extended by 2 days, and all contestants get 1 day past the due date to turn in, if we are lacking many participants, I'll expand the due date more. -Dark Ace SP (Talk) 00:23, December 1, 2012 (UTC)

Decks

Please post your decks here, remember to give a short explanation of what your deck does as well.

Fire Fist

I am a lover of Fire cards, and thus had a blast making this deck. I agree, there are a few questionable choices, so I shall take you through the deck.

We have our basic fire fists, obviously using Chicken as an amazing searcher, along with Chouten to help us spam. I won't go into depth about the other fire fists, as that would take forever, but I assure they all have their reasons for being there. Next up, we have the Enthusiastics, which I teched in on a whim and found to be an amazing call. Wolf helps go for an easy rank 4, while Bear has an easy possibility to make Giantrainer. Also, I use prominent knight to fill up the grave with Chicken.

From here, we move on to the spell lineup, which is basically a simple line up with the inclusion of Tensu and Tenki. I also added Disorderly March, which has so far proven to be a good choice. Granted, the negative effect can be risky, but I myself am careful and only activate it when I'm sure we won't have a problem. Heavy has questionable doubt, and is more of an emergency card.

Then we move on to our traps. Nothing new, Flaming Dance is included again. I also added Horn for good measures. So far, so good. Solemn may bring up some negative thoughs, but this deck moves so fast, I can otk with the help of solemn.

Finally, the extra deck. really nothing new, included the new Wolf aswell as Coachtrainer, both being very convenient. As a back up plan, I added Utopia and Utopia Ray to help me out.

Most tests went magnificently, and I look forward to seeing your thoughts. User:BROOKLYN RAGE! 10:37, December 1, 2012 (UTC)

Fire King

So the deck might seem like it has some strange choices but they all work nicely together.

What might jump out to some are the 2 Flaming Dance/Firedance spells, they really do help with the Fire Kings due to Tenki adding any Beast-Warrior to hand, personally I chose Yaksha the most, and Tensu for allowing another normal summon of a east-Warrior which works great for an Xyz summon or destruction fodder for Diawolf. I did find Qilin to be helpful, but not really as helpful as Yaksha or Barong, but Qilin works really well on the first turn as a set monster to send Garunix to the grave for later use with Fire Cycle, Monster Reborn, or CotH. Needle Ceiling was used more than Torrential, since I could activate it at anytime rather than a response to a summon but both work very well with the entire Fire King strategy. Lavalval chain acts like Foolish Burial for sending any of the Fire King monsters (especially Garunix) to the grave, or to set up a play on the next turn by putting whoever will help you the most on top of the deck.

Diawolf is just so amazing with the Fire Kings, destroy Yaksha then destroy a monster from hand, destroy Barong to add another to hand on the next Stand by Phase, destroy Qilin to get Garunix in the grave. And thats all while destroying anything your opponent has on the field. Rekindling will get any of the Fire King monsters and Firedog to make a big push for game, and Wolfberk is really helpful for an easy Rank 4 summon.

Soko can be really helpful, with his negate all monster's effects that are not Beast-Warriors which can help with just about any Extra Deck monster they could throw at you.

Hope you like the deck, its a lot of fun to use and can leave your opponent in a bind when you have a Garunix being destroyed by Assault on the End Phase and another being revived. Anyways thanks for listening. Hastydemon2 (talkcontribs) 23:37, December 1, 2012 (UTC)

Garbage Ogre/Lord

So Garbage Lord... When it came out, everyone said it's totally useless. I wanted to prove they were wrong (and I like challenge), well not sure if I did. So the obvious point of the deck is summoning rank 5 Xyz monsters quickly. 2*3 "if you control no monsters", 2*3 that can be normal summoned and used as a lv5 monster later, and 2*3 monsters that has special conditions to special summon themselves anytime (Garbage Lord and Quickdraw). You can also use Tannhauser Gate to make lv8 or lv10 Xyz monsters, just target 2 Fiend or 2 Machine-type monsters. Inferno Reckless Summon gets you easy Xyz monsters, use if the opponent controls only extra-deck monsters. The other spells are the staples. My only trap is what I use when I have not enough space for a full trapline. Apart from the obvious, the deck contains 2 extra strategies.

Chaos is one of them, of course. Nowdays, you can put a few chaos cards to any deck, and it will become stronger, I'm pretty sure there is no exception. I'm not really experienced with Chaos, but this deck needs some backup, so here it is. I have 9 LIGHT and 10 DARK monsters included in the Xyz summoning theme, so I can summon a surprise BLS or Chaos Sorcerer anytime. Cool, this is all about Chaos.

The last saving strategy is Chimeratech. It can save you in a desperate situation to draw an Overload Fusion. You can say, not enough Machine-type monsters in the deck, and that is true, so you have to pay attention which cards do you want to Xyz summon. Leviair seems to be a good choice one time, but Zenmaines is an extra attack and +800 ATK to Overdragon, so I use it more times. Same goes for Number 15 and 22.

All in all, the deck is strong. Not Wind-up Xyz swarm or Dark World strong, but a good deck. I liked to play it, and I am satisfied with this deck.

Heraldic Beast

So, Heraldic Beasts. Hardly have I ever seen an archetype so dedicated to Xyz Summons of a single Rank. Coupled with their search, recycle, and Special Summon abilities, on paper they look formidable. With their expanded membership from Cosmic Blazer, pretty much every Heraldic Beast is being used in this Deck. Except Heraldic Beast Unicorn. Its revival effect only restricts itself to two situational Xyz Monsters, and it even negates their effects. Summoner Monk is pretty much a must for anything that creates Rank 4 Xyz Monsters.

But what really sells the archetype is their Spell cards. Reborn Heraldry is their exclusive, unlimited Monster Reborn, and because I'm likely to see about half the Heraldic Beasts die in battle, the card is more or less a must. High Medallion Arts also allows me to perform an immediate 2-monster Rank 4 Xyz Summon in a single step, which combos absurdly well with Dimension Slice, allowing me to handle whatever that used to threaten to beat my face in the previous turn.

The tricky part here is about the Heraldic Beasts' subpar stats. While Heraldic Beast Leo and Heraldic Beast Aberconway are exceptions to this, the rest of them have a maximum of 1200 ATK. This is particularly troublesome, since ATK boosters like Horn of the Phantom Beast tend to work best with cards above that ATK range, and support outside the archetype tend to either aid Beasts or Winged Beasts, not both, limiting their general usefulness for the Deck. Thus, 2 Mirror Forces are tossed in to prevent destruction in battle, while Heraldry Change also shuts off an entire Battle Phase while providing another Heraldic Beast on the field. Mystical Space Typhoon is run in triplicate due to a lack of S/T control in the rest of the Deck, including the Xyz Monsters.

Now, the Extra Deck more or less has several standard Rank 4 monsters, so I'll explain the outliers. Number 8 is exclusive the Heraldic Beasts, and is primarily anti-Xyz tech, since it steals their face and ATK points, allowing anything to simply kill whatever black card that has been terrorizing me previously. Maestroke shines a little better in here, being a destruction-resistant tank that can flip monsters down. Twin-Head Eagle even adds to the fun by refilling his Material so he can last longer. Diawolf is one of the few cards that supports both Beasts and Winged Beasts, and functions as a pseudo-Scrap Dragon for removal. Lavalval Chain goes hand-in-hand with Leo by milling him and instantly granting me a search off the bat. I can then follow up with Reborn Heraldry or High Medallion Arts to use Leo again.

That should be it for this writeup. I can't think of a Guilty Crown pun to sign off with. --Gadjiltron (talkcontribs) 12:56, December 1, 2012 (UTC)

Inaribi

Hey this is my Inaribi deck. So this guy is pretty awesome. If you control a Spellcaster, it is summoned directly from your hand. He is like a Noble Knight Gawayn. This makes him viable to Rabbit decks but that has no originality, instead I made something BETTER.

One great partner for Inaribi is one of the new Cosmo Blazer card; Aster Drawn. You just normal summon the guy then summon Inaribi making a quick Rank 4 summon and eliminating the -1 by drawing a card through Aster Drawn. This may be a good start but there is something of better use for Inaribi.

Aster Drawn may be a good partner but the PERFECT partner is Flamvell Magician. Its the same as Aster, you summon Flamvell Magician then summon Inaribi but the difference is you won't Xyz Summon. Having Flamvell Magician as a Tuner, you can Synchro summon directly having a LV8 Synchro monster which is a lot better than Xyz Monsters. It doesn't end there yet, Inaribi is FIRE, having 200 DEF, together with Rekindling, you can just Spam Rank 4 Xyz and Lv8 Synchros especially if you have multiple copies on the graveyard.

Even though Flamvell Magician got his fox, his dog is still there to be with him doing the usual job, LV8 Synchros on MP2. With Dog, Rekindling makes it better.

The last Spellcaster is Summoner Monk. The good thing about him is that he can create Rank 4s which require 3 Level 4s like Number 16: Shock Master though the best thing about Summoner Monk is not this but its combo with Inaribi which utilizes the 2nd Effect of Inaribi.

By summoning Summoner Monk, you use his effect to search Flamvell Magician. You can now summon Inaribi from your hand. With this you will Synchro summon the most abused Synchro in this deck, Scrap Dragon. Now you can destroy Inaribi and an opponent's card but do not fear, Inaribi will come back for some more destruction next turn then Repeat until opponent breaks the mini-loop.

To add consistency, there are also searchers like Flamvell Poun and Flamvell Firedog. Thank you. Please Vote ----SharkTenjo 02:21, December 1, 2012 (UTC)

Number 53: Fake-Body God, Heart-eartH

The biggest challenge for getting out Number 53: Fake-Body God, Heart-eartH is summoning it's materials of that awkward level...5. I scoured this wiki for easily summonable lvl 5s and found 3: Cyber Dragon, Ghost Ship, and Constellar Kaust, who can add a level to any Constellar twice per turn. These three make for some fast, easy plays resulting in 3 level 5s. Because Kaust is so crucial I play double Flaming Dance - "Tenki", or as I like to call it "Reinforcement of the Kaust". I try to get out a Cyber Dragon or Ghost Ship out as fast as possible, and then follow up with any level 4 Constellar, as every one of them can summon a Kaust from the hand. Schet acts as another Cyber Dragon, because he can copy a level 5 Constellar already on the field. I've noticed all Constellar plays originate from the hand, so I run 2 Super-Rebirth, which almost always sets up a play next turn. Because Ghost Ship and Constellar Sombres do quite a bit of banishing, I teched in a Light of Redemption, in case I need something crucial. Double Call of the Haunted means an easy Rank 4 or 5 because of Sombres and Kaust. Call of the Earthbound and Battle Mania are to help Number 53: Fake-Body God, Heart-eartH, and I must say, they're pretty darn fun to use. tl;dr Get Number 53 out as fast as possible and make it battle. Valkyrie Knight

Well after some testings and changing decks ideas, I came to conclusion to make a Gemini deck. This is my Valkyrie Knight's deck.

It's pretty basic, has lots of Gemini Beaters, it rounds on summoning the big dude, Phoenix Gearfried. It's a bit slow but it still manages to do the job. Of course the deck needs its Foolish Burial and it's monster version, Lavalval Chain. With these, Phoenix Gearfried will always have a place and a job to do. Which is rest in the graveyard till Valkyrie's Knight does the Job.

In the Extra deck you may see that I'm using Giantrainer, it's because if I get 3 Gearfrieds I won't go for a Neo Galaxy-Eyes Photon Dragon because its effect are a bit useless if my opponent doesn't have any Xyz Monster(s)... So I chose going in the duel and finish it off as soon as possible by inflicting 800 damage for each drawn monster. And If I don't get a monster, I get something to help my geminis like Supervise.

Anyway, this is my deck. Hope you all liked it, it's not a big awesome deck, this deck was quite challenging to me, that's why I changed from trying to make a Haze deck to make a deck around Valkyrie Knight because we all know that to make a Haze deck doesn't need a lot of things and because I'm not here to win, but to have fun in it. --E.G.G. Xyz Tribal

First things first, picking a trap to do was not easy, as there's no good way to search for it. Anyway I decided to do a deck based on Xyz Tribal, which means my entire deck has to make Xyz Summons in order to make the most out of Tribal. I choose to make the main meat of the deck out of Gagaga monsters and some cards to help support the duo of Gagaga Magician and Gagaga Girl.

The monsters are all there to help get to either Magician or Girl in the quickest way possible, so the deck is filled with mini-engines to do so. Summoner Monk acts as a quick way engine to get to Magician and make anything I want with Resonance Device. Tour Guides serve as a Rank 3 engine, but mostly to tutor Sangan and get a search for either a Girl or a Monk. The other cards work as either fodder for Xyz Summons or hand traps to disrupt the opponent.

The spells are pretty basic, except for Gold Sarc to search for Xyz Tribal and Resonance Device to make Xyz Summons with either Breaker/Monk and Magician. Messenger of Peace was a last minute add-on to help grind the game down and allow me to make a big push when I need it (Thanks UltimateKuriboh).

The traps are Xyz Tribal at 3, since it actually puts in a lot of work with stuff like Gaia Dragon, the Thunder Charger, Pearl, and even Number 22: Fran Ken as I don't really want to use his effect. Also Call of the Haunted helps to bring back Magician, and Xyz Reborn is just plain mean when I bring back Big Eye from the grave.

Hope you vote for me. ---Dark Ace SP (Talk) 00:16, December 1, 2012 (UTC)
