"Frightfur", known as "Death-Toy" (デストーイ Desutōi) in the OCG, is an archetype of DARK Fiend-Type Fusion Monsters used by Sora Shiun'in in the Yu-Gi-Oh! ARC-V anime. The "Frightfur" monsters serve as the "bosses" of both the "Fluffal" and "Edge Imp" archetypes, since the Fusion Materials used for their Fusion Summon reside in these archetypes.

Design

Appearance

"Frightfur" monsters are based off of corrupted versions of animals from "Fluffal" archetype. They feature a destroyed plush toy with the respective "Edge Imp" tools or weapons inside them, giving them a more demonic and terrifying appearance, in contrast to the "Fluffal" monsters. The artwotk of "Frightfur Factory" depict the transformation of "Fluffal" to "Frightfur" monsters

Frightfur Monster Animal Toys/Fluffal monsters & Edge Imp monsters
Bear Bear Fluffal Bear fused with Edge Imp Sabres
Chimaera Chimera Fluffal Bear fused with raccoon/squirrel-like doll head, plastic toy snake and an unknown toy head
Leo Lion Fluffal Leo fused with Edge Imp Saw
Sheep Sheep Fluffal Sheep fused with Edge Imp Chain
Tiger Tiger Plush Tiger fused with Edge Imp Sabres
Wolf Wolf Plush Wolf fused with Edge Imp Sabres

Etymology

"Frightfur" is a pun on "frightful" and "fur". Their Japanese name "Death-Toy" directly describes their menacing appearances, and can also be a pun on "destroy".

Playing style

The "Frightfur" monsters can be summoned by Fusion Summon using "Edge Imp" monsters as the Fusion Material Monster. They rely primarily on "Fluffal" archetype with boosting effects. The "Des-Toy" monsters have offensive effects that either boost their ATK or grant additional attacks, destroying cards on the opponent's field, prevents opponent activate cards or effects when they attacks, and even steal away an opponent's monster by equipping them to themselves or Special Summon them to their controller's field.

Unfortunately, "Frightfur" monsters have a big weakness compared to other Fusion strategies, like "Elemental Heroes", and that is that the each Fusion Monster requires a specific "Edge Imp" monster (with the exception with "Frightfur Chimaera", who requires 3 "Frightfur" monsters to be Summoned). Currently, "Edge Imp Tomahawk" helps relieve this problem, but it none of the other "Edge Imp" monsters have any really outstanding effects that can make them truly useful.
