Arabic GX?

I notice you added the Arabic names for Yu-Gi-Oh! GX characters. I didn't know it was dubbed in Arabic, was it? -- Deltaneos (talk) 18:26, 26 July 2008 (UTC)

Aha, indeed it was! Yu-Gi-Oh! actually began airing in Arabic 5 years ago! (Can you believe it?) The entire Yu-Gi-Oh! second series has been dubbed, along with a chunk of Yu-Gi-Oh! GX. I've seen the entire second series anime in Arabic, but I didn't follow the Arabic GX due to time constraints. (In case you're wondering, what's currently being aired is the 3rd -probably- rerun of the Waking the Dragons season, usually they'll rerun old seasons as fillers until new seasons are dubbed) I'm not sure to what season GX has been dubbed, but the last time I saw it the Arabic dub has already reached the Jaden vs. Kagemaru duel (right after the Jaden vs. Amnael duel), do you know what season that was? -- Melik el-Al'ab 19:02, 26 July 2008 (UTC)

That would be season one. Back when I used to see Yu-Gi-Oh! GX on tv, they played reruns of the last half season before showing they got new episodes. Although I would really have prefered reruns of Yu-Gi-Oh!. Now they don't show either. One more favour, could you add the channel it's shown in Arabic to the network other sections of the infoboxes in the Yu-Gi-Oh! second series anime and Yu-Gi-Oh! It's already there! (And has been there since I first came to this Wiki! Wouldn't blame you if you didn't notice it, though.) The network's name is MBC 3, you probably didn't notice it because it has the flag of the United Arab Emirates (the country of broadcast, in Dubai to be precise) instead of the flag of Saudi Arabia. MBC 3 airs all sorts of kids shows 24-7. I grew up watching Pokémon, Digimon (1-4), and Yu-Gi-Oh! (all have proved very popular here). From Dubai, the channel airs all across the Middle East and some other parts in Asia, Africa, and Europe. Ever been to Dubai? It's a tourist-magnet! Hehe... Well, I recommend considering Dubai as a vacation stop some time. Oh by the way, they're gonna open a new hotel even taller than Burj Al Arab, it's called the Rose Tower also located in Dubai, and is 3 meters taller than its unfinished competitor, the Ryugyong Hotel of Pyongyang, North Korea. • Hey there, Dmaster! That's an interesting question, actually. Technically I don't own a proper deck now since my original deck got lost. My old deck had a Spellcaster theme with cards like Silent Magician LV8, Magical Marionette, and Magician's Circle, as well as some useful cards like Riryoku, Negate Attack, and Ekibyo Drakmord. I also kept a few Dragons in there, such as the Blue-Eyes White Dragon. Oh, and I almost forgot the Dark Blade and Kiryu combo! Yeah, it might have been a little weak strategically, but it sure was what I could've called my deck, since I had to scavenge every single card in it from here and there. Even so, I made my deck like that merely out of circumstance. If I had the choice and freedom of picking my cards, I would have made a Toon Deck!. I've loved Toons ever since I first saw them in the posession of Pegasus when I was 12 years old. I even got the Starter Deck: Pegasus just so I can at least own (but sadly never use) some Toon Monsters as well as Toon World. Relinquished was quite a helpful card as well. Anyway, as I said my old Spellcaster deck went missing, and eventually cards stopped selling here (authentic cards, at least), and so I was never really able to build another working deck.

Although, the virtual world of video games has gotten me back into the game! It started when I began building decks on YVD, and eventually when Yu-Gi-Oh! appeared on the DS. I now have a virtual Toon Deck (Almost a dream come true), as well as some other decks, including a Machine Deck and a -failed- Light Deck, among MANY others. I am interested in making an Egyptian-themed deck as well. I am also fascinated by the Vehicroids, Crystal Beasts, and the Aliens.

So as you can see, I don't currently have a working deck. I have a virtual Toon Deck which I love and wish to build in real-life. Besides Toons though, I have no real likes and dislikes among card types. Oh my, I seem to have been rambling on for too long, I really apologize. Sorry ^_^;

By the way, I wouldn't mind a friendly "hi!" for no reason. Heck, I'd probably do it. Love the "Seto Stands Up For it" GIF on your page, by the way! • Umm... Honestly, I'm not sure. It seems that it doesn't matter what happens to the Fusion Material Monsters after they're sent to the Graveyard, but I'm not in any position to confirm this. Oh, sorry. "Kul 'am wa ant bikheir" (كل عام وأنت بخير) Literally it would mean "Every year and you're okay" meaning "I hope you stay healthy every year (as in, all the time)". It's one of many phrases commonly said in various occasions, especially in Idul Fitr and Idul Adha. =)

Card names while speaking Arabic

Curiously, if you were speaking in Arabic with someone about Yu-Gi-Oh!, would you use the cards' Arabic or English names? -- Deltaneos (talk) 22:36, 4 November 2008 (UTC)

• That's a good question actually. The fandom refers to cards by 3 ways:

• Official Arabic names, when referring to the Arabic anime, or when the person is influenced by it. (This is especially common with the younger fans who got hooked to Yu-Gi-Oh! through the Arabic anime.)

• Unofficial Arabic names, when referring to cards that don’t have official Arabic names while using official Arabic names, or when unsatisfied with the Arabic anime and its translations. (This is found in three groups: 1-Fans playing the card game in Arabic with cards they don’t know the names for, especially young fans trying to mimic the characters in the Arabic anime. 2-Disgruntled fans who are unsatisfied by the Arabic translations. 3-Arabic fans of the Japanese or English animes and mangas.)

• English names (This could happen for many reasons, including the person’s irrelevance to the Arabic anime, either intentionally distancing themselves or if they got hooked through outside sources such as the Japanese or English animes or mangas. Also, older fans or young fans who are not influenced by the Arabic anime playing the card game might use the English names because they are written on the cards, if not deciding to play the entire game in English.)

It is worthy to note that on forums and other written media, people will write the Arabic name (official or not) followed by the English name in brackets. This is because Arabic names are not common among non-Arabic-anime-watchers, because names in the Arabic anime can change, and because few people can guess the card if the name was translated.

If you were referring to me, I rarely discuss Yu-Gi-Oh! in Arabic nowadays. I talk about Yu-Gi-Oh! in English unless I’m referring to the Arabic anime, and also duel in full English most of the time. In my younger days (I feel so old saying that, I’m only 16 now >_>) I used to duel in Arabic more though. Ah, nostalgia!

The reason for this mess is definitely because no official Arabic card game exists, and so there is no unified list of Arabic names for the cards (something which I dream of). Y’know I saw a guy carrying Arabic cards once. I could only get a glimpse though, but I recognized Dark Magician. -- Melik el-Al'ab 13:43, 5 November 2008 (UTC)

Arabic project

I see you plan translating the entire Yu-Gi-Oh! card game into Arabic. Would you be interested in starting an Arabic Yu-Gi-Oh! Wikia? Starting the wiki is a lot easier than you think. -- Deltaneos (talk) 17:33, 21 April 2009 (UTC)

Actually, that would be very interesting! However, most of the information/translation would have to be fan-made, like a lot of cards that didn't appear in the anime (and even half of those who did) would have to be given fan-made names (or approximations), and a lot of card terminology (words like "Set, Tuner Monsters, Flip Summon, etc.) would also have to be set unofficially. Nothing is legally wrong with using fan made names. Facilitating the readers is the main purpose of a wiki, rather than being official. (That said I almost always base things on the latter.) I guess the only concerns could be; are users going to understand what is meant by such "fanslated" names and are they going to agree with them. Setting up policy pages, (like this) should hopefully avoid edit wars over what names to use.

Choice of flag for Arabic names

Is the Saudia Arabia flag the best choice for the Arabic names? A reader reported that we shouldn't be using it. If I understand right, they say we should use a red, white and black one, as it's the bases for most flags of countries that use the language (including Egypt, Syria and Iraq)... effectively the flag of Yemen. -- Deltaneos (talk) 18:07, 27 April 2009 (UTC)

It really depends on the requirement/standard for language flags. If the flag is supposed to represent the area of origin of the language, then the flag of Saudi Arabia would be the best choice in the same sense that the flag of the UK is more effective for the English language than the flag of the United States. However, since Arabic is an official language of 20 something countries now, using the flag of one might not be that comforting to the others, which could make the reader’s point somewhat valid in that Saudia is only 1 country of all of them. However, the Red White and Black flag is the bases of 4 (5 if you count Sudan) out of 22 Arab countries, so I wouldn’t say it’s the "most common" design either, and so it doesn’t solve the problem. There was a time when more Arab flags had that design, but that was 50 years ago. It would have made more sense to use the tri-colored flag back then, but not now. In the present time, as a universal solution, I think it is best to use the flag of the Arab League, as it represents the Arab World as a whole. The unifying feature of the modern Arab World is, after all, the Arabic language. -- Melik el-Al'ab 22:03, 27 April 2009 (UTC)

• Umm... well, I can switch between writing languages using my system's Language Bar. My computer's "Regional and Language Settings" allows me to Add/Remove languages in the Language Bar. If I want to write in Arabic, all I have to do is change the Writing Language to Arabic, (usually via the shortcut Shift+Alt). It's actually quite simple once you enable the feature in the Control Panel, considering you have an Arabic-labeled keyboard (or just know where all the letters are) and actually know Arabic. -- Melik el-Al'ab 10:33, 16 June 2009 (UTC)

My name's Psychid, and I'm kind of both old and new here to the Wikia community (mostly old)! And it's nice to meet you (I kind of first found you after fiddling around the "recent activity" page)! I can also be found on the Total Drama Island Wikia and the Yu-Gi-Oh! Card Maker Wikia! I also have a FanFiction.Net account, which you can also check out, if you'd like. ;)

And one of my stories is entitled, Yu-Gi-Oh! Rise of the Busters, which is a crossover fic between Total Drama Island and Yu-Gi-Oh! 5D's. Unfortunately, I've decided to rewrite it (which probably doesn't surprise you, since this is pretty much the first time you've heard about it). =( Fortunately, though, I'm working on the remake as we speak, and hopefully, it will be out relatively soon. =) And I hope you enjoy it, once it comes out! =D

Also, are you from Arabia (I'm assuming this because you seem so professional at writing in Arabic)? 'Cause it would be so cool if you were, seeing that I'm interested in meeting people from other countries. =)
