DFF Request[edit]

You made a request at DFF for a Constellar deck and then removed it, that's completely fine. However, if you need a more pure version, check Archive 17 or 18, there should be one there. --Dark Ace SP (Talk) 12:58, May 11, 2013 (UTC)

Re:Gallery Update[edit]

The actual Decks for Free! homepage. See Forum:Decks for Free!. For future reference, underneath the name of each gallery should be a link back to the main page. --Dark Ace SP (Talk) 04:16, June 14, 2013 (UTC)

Our test is hosted by three of the deckbuilders, in your case, it might be around two. Anyway, me and another deckbuilder will ask you to create deck based around a certain concept or archetype. After you give the decks to the deckbuilder who requested them, me and the other deckbuilders will converse in private, then we'll give you our verdict. Before you actually ask for an official test, I can give you a few practice decks to complete.

(Pick one or two of the following to practice with)

Practice Decks:

Both of these decks are going to test important skills needed for deck builders. --Dark Ace SP (Talk) 15:56, June 14, 2013 (UTC)

Could you add a few words to your profile page, it helps when I try to link your name to other deckbuilders.

--Dark Ace SP (Talk) 16:07, June 14, 2013 (UTC)

I tryed to make a deck based off of thunder dragon. :T I don't know if I did well or not. Can you check it just to see if I'm actually worthy of taking the test. >.< I don't want to waste your time.

How to use the Deck Template[edit]

{{Decklist|Blue-Eyes

* Tri-Horned Dragon 1x
|spells=

You had most of the template down, but it's a little quirky. Anyway, you start the code off with "", and it all has to aligned at the left-hand side. See Template:Decklist to see other parameters. The main thing is that parameter for starting the Monster, Spell, and Trap sections must be in lowercase, and there can't be a space between the "|" and the word. --Dark Ace SP (Talk) 23:15, June 14, 2013 (UTC)

I see, Thanks. The example at the page through me off a bit.Mrfluffy2 (talkcontribs) 23:19, June 14, 2013 (UTC)

Blue-Eyes Deck Critique[edit]

So your deck isn't bad, it's alright. I'm honestly worried that you have too many situational monsters. You had only 5 monsters that you could summon without tributes or other types of summoning conditions. The spells helped to give you some form of monster summoning with Art and Swing, but I just felt like the deck was asking for dead draws. I'll go through my own process of building a deck a little later if you want. Just so you know, the decks were testing if you knew about new cards, see Structure Deck: The Blue-Eyed Dragon's Thundering Descent...don't feel bad though. --Dark Ace SP (Talk) 23:37, June 14, 2013 (UTC)

Thanks! This was just a practice deck though, right? Wasn't the actual test.

I'm gonna try the other practice deck you suggested and a deck of my own (Dark Counter) So I can get more practice. Maybe then I can take the test? I really appreciate your help by the way. :D Mrfluffy2 (talkcontribs) 23:42, June 14, 2013 (UTC)

That was a practice. If you want, I can build a Blue-Eyes deck with the new cards for you to see my process. --Dark Ace SP (Talk) 23:43, June 14, 2013 (UTC)
Sounds great! How will that work though? You'd tale e step by step of how you build a deck?Mrfluffy2 (talkcontribs) 23:45, June 14, 2013 (UTC)

My Process[edit]

So, we'll be building a new Blue-Eyes White Dragon (BEWD) deck. With the new cards from Structure Deck: The Blue-Eyed Dragon's Thundering Descent, this fan-favorite has never been better.

Step 1) Theme and main cards. Since the deck is about Blue-Eyes, we need to include the main support for BEWD. 2 Bound Wand is going in to target our own Maiden for her effect.

Step 2) Staples like Monster Reborn, Dark Hole, and Heavy Storm come next.

Step 3) Secondary Support for the Deck Idea. Since I'm adding in 2 Summoner Monk, I need to also bump the Spell count up. I'm adding the Monk so that I can easily summon Prisma, to dump BEWD into the grave. We can then use the Monk and Prisma to make Daigusto Emeral. Emeral is amazing because he can summon back BEWD in the graveyard. Again, Lances can be used to fuel Monk, or activate Maiden's effect.

Step 4) Anti-Meta. Since the biggest decks out there are Dragon Ruler, Prophecy, and Lswarm, we need to be prepared. I'm adding in 2 Effect Veiler, 1 Maxx "C", and 2 "Breakthrough Skill", as well as 2 Tragoedia and 1 Gorz to stop OTK pushes. Finally, I'm going to add in 2 Bottomless Trap Hole and 2 Compulsory Evacuation Device, the later of which can be used to activate Maiden's effect if we really need to. Those two traps can help us get rid of our opponent's Xyz Monsters and act as general removal. Trust me, Evilswarm Ophion will hate you for it.

Step 5) Decking out the Extra. This is basically just adding in filler to the Extra Deck. It's plausible for us to add in some Level 8 Synchros, because we can steal a few Level 7 Dragon Rulers from the opponent using Monster Reborn. This isn't always needed, so don't go crazy. Here, I'm adding in 1 Thunder-End Dragon and 1 Number 107: Galaxy-Eyes Tachyon Dragon, A.K.A., Gorz KILLER.

That's basically it! You've now seen my entire process for building decks!

--Dark Ace SP (Talk) 00:30, June 15, 2013 (UTC)

Forgot to add, but Dueling Network.com (Google it) should have the new cards from the strucutre deck on their site in a few days. If you want to play with them now, search google for a program called DevPro. Pro installs onto your computer and lets you duel from your desktop, while Dueling Network is on the web and won't install onto your computer. But you probably knew about them already. --Dark Ace SP (Talk) 00:45, June 15, 2013 (UTC)

Re: Dark Counter[edit]

Here's what I see.

Those are the biggest things that jump at me. I also don't like the 3 Van'Dalgyon the Dark Dragon Lord it's just too much, 2 max. Your going to have to go back to the drawing board and make some slight changes. --Dark Ace SP (Talk) 04:28, June 15, 2013 (UTC)

I think the mistakes were 'caused by my fear of the hero engine. I was figuring the van' was to much. I was considering Summoner monk, but the lack of spell and the vast amount of traps turned me away. I'll go back to the drawing board. I think I did better with this one though, so progress. Right? Mrfluffy2 (talkcontribs) 04:33, June 15, 2013 (UTC)

It's progress. --Dark Ace SP (Talk) 13:05, June 15, 2013 (UTC)

Re: KM[edit]

I like it, I'm not a fan of only 1 Pot of Duality, I think you could have dropped 1 Kagetokage for another Pot of Duality. Urgent Synthesis probably isn't needed, it could have been dropped for another trap like Horn or a Bottomless. That's all. Honestly, I liked this deck. --Dark Ace SP (Talk) 13:05, June 15, 2013 (UTC)

Awesome! ^-^ So what do you think is the next step from here?Mrfluffy2 (talkcontribs) 14:41, June 15, 2013 (UTC)

User:Hastydemon2 said he'd give you a few practice decks to do, so maybe remind on his talk page. After you feel confident enough, then you can formally ask me for a test. --Dark Ace SP (Talk) 16:22, June 15, 2013 (UTC)

Re:Practice Decks[edit]

I'll give you 2 decks to choose from, you can feel free to do both if you think it will help you get better as a deckbuilder, but you do not have to do both if it becomes a problem.

Practice Decks:

 • Make a Wind-Up deck that can take advantage of their swarming abilities of Rank 4's and 5's.
 • Make a Volcanic deck that focuses on controlling the field.

You can make an entire Volcanic deck or you can use the Volcanic engine, which ever you feel more comfortable with. Hastydemon2 (talkcontribs) 18:52, June 15, 2013 (UTC)

I forgot to mention that you can use Rank 3's for the Wind-Up deck if needed. Hastydemon2 (talkcontribs) 01:49, June 16, 2013 (UTC)
http://i.imgur.com/VuXqB3g.png This is the deck for volcanic I made. I was a tad stumped when I made it, but I think I did okay. What do you think? Mrfluffy2 (talkcontribs) 02:54, June 16, 2013 (UTC)
I don't think it's that bad, just a few odd choices. Blaster could have been maxed out so you could load the grave faster for Pyrorex, plus a free destruction with is always nice especially if you sent Shell. 3 Blaze Accelerators are a bit overkill, 2 should be fine since you can recover them from the grave as well. Maybe only 1 of both Doomfire and Tri-Blaze since they're a little sub-par, but they can make some interesting tech choices. Other than that maybe a Flamvell Magician for easy time making Rank 4 and Level 8 Synchro plays, and the single Wild Fire seems a bit out of place. But overall not too bad. Hastydemon2 (talkcontribs) 04:12, June 16, 2013 (UTC)

Test[edit]

I don't need anymore information, unless there is some conflict that could hinder your access to Decks for Free! or a conflict with another user?

Anyway, the format is this. Me and Hasty and possibly Nephthy will give you two/three decks that we think will present a challenge, and you need to make the decks and post them on our respective talk pages. After you've posted both, me and the testers will privately communicate with each other about the decks, and whether or not we feel like you are qualified enough to join us. There isn't a number or score based system, we just base the outcome on how well we thought the decks were made. I suggest taking your time (Reasonable amount, not 1 month) and testing the decks on dueling network, to make sure they work.

 • Ace's Test: Make me a based around Interplanetary Invader "A". You need to be able to get to him consistenly and effectively use his effect when possible. You can give me the deck in either a screenshot or a deck template, I really don't care which. Haste should be by later to give you his test. --Dark Ace SP (Talk) 12:36, June 16, 2013 (UTC)
 • Hasty's Test: Make me a deck that can put Celestial Dragon on the field in 1 turn. You cannot use Dragon Rulers as the main emphasis of the deck. Like with Ace's test you can use a screenshot or a deck template. Hastydemon2 (talkcontribs) 13:52, June 16, 2013 (UTC)
 • Nephthy's Test: Make me a deck based around D.D. Esper Star Sparrow. No need to use other cards of the Sparrow Family or Different Dimension series (although you can if you want to), just be able to consisteltly summon it and use all of its effects at their fullest. You can use screenshot or template like with the 2 other tests. Nephthy (talkcontribs) 14:07, June 16, 2013 (UTC)

Re:Test Questions[edit]

Sorry for being vague. The goal of the deck should be getting Celestial Dragon on the field in a single turn, whether it be your first turn or not, and keeping it there to control the field. Celestial Dragon should be summoned in close to every duel, I'd say every 1 out of 3 duels should be good. Of course still no Dragon Rulers as the main emphasis. If you still have any questions I'll answer try to answer them to the best of my abilities. Hastydemon2 (talkcontribs) 19:45, June 18, 2013 (UTC)

How is the test going?[edit]

So how is the deck making going? I know that Nep and Haste gave you some hard decks to complete, but try to have them done by July 1st or so, after that it's going to get kinda long and worn out. --Dark Ace SP (Talk) 03:11, June 22, 2013 (UTC)

You forgot the card links for Haste. --Dark Ace SP (Talk) 19:52, June 24, 2013 (UTC)

Re: Just sit back and relax, all of us [deckbuilders] now need to talk it over and express our thoughts on how you built your decks. --Dark Ace SP (Talk) 13:36, June 25, 2013 (UTC)

Re: Hey[edit]

Give us another day or two. --Dark Ace SP (Talk) 01:12, June 27, 2013 (UTC)

<Update> We should have a decision to you either by Friday or Saturday at the latest, in my opinion. --Dark Ace SP (Talk) 23:08, June 27, 2013 (UTC)

Results[edit]

We are sorry to inform you that, at this time, we can't accept you into Decks for Free!. Listed below are the issues we had with your decks and some feedback with how we would have done it.

Interplanetary Invader "A" Deck

 • Lack of Spirit Barrier and Imperial Custom really hinders the deck, because 3 Waboku isn't enough to prevent damage and really utilize Invader's effect.
 • Mystic Piper instead of Summoner Monk may be proven to be a better draw engine for the deck. (Ace tested the Mystic Piper build and had mixed results {See Deck Below})

However, your build wasn't bad, but it wasn't great, if you had included Spirit Barrier and Imperial Custom, the deck would have passed my expectations.

Celestial Deck

 • Using Tefnuit, Eset, and Su to grab a Level 8 Dragon and pairing it with a Level 3 Tuner like Genex Ally Birdman would have been a much more efficient way of making Celestial Dragon, mostly since the Dragons are searchable and so is Birdman with a few Neutrons.
 • Lack of Safe Zone to protect Celestial later.

This is a Hieratic Dragon deck built using a more solid Hieratic engine. While Gebb isn't bad, it's just not the right monster in this metagame, 1800 ATK isn't as great as it used to be.

D.D. Esper Star Sparrow Deck

 • Lack of Judgment Dragon when using Lightsworn
 • No Heavy Storm, it's a Staple.
 • No Necro Gardna; With Lightsworn decks in general, you're always going to be milling out cards from your deck, so having fewer spells and traps and more monsters is a good thing. With 3 Necro Gardna and 1 Bacon Saver, you get defense you need without ever having to draw into your defense.

This is what Nephthy built. He liked your build and went with it, but he made it more stable and able to absord/negate attacks from the opponent.

So sadly, we had to reject you at this time, but you can try again in another 2 months if you want. Take the time to improve at your deck building skills, and remember that we're here to help you if you ask. --Dark Ace SP (Talk) 14:51, June 28, 2013 (UTC)
