Cat (キャット Kyatto) is a series of Beast Type, Warrior Type and Beast-Warrior Type monsters with 200 DEF used by Kit Schrödinger in the Yu-Gi-Oh! SEVENS anime and Nyandestar (and her manga counterpart) in the Yu-Gi-Oh! GO RUSH!! anime and manga. It is unrelated to the archetype of the same name from Yu-Gi-Oh! ZEXAL.

Members[edit]

There are two branches of differently themed Cat monsters in Rush Duel; however, both are designed to be compatible with each other and can be merged to be played as a single functional Deck.

The first subset of Cat monsters is designed after members of the -Eyes Dragon series from the first six main anime series and the concept of Schrödinger's Cat, used by Kit Schrödinger. The "Schrödinger's Cat" thought experiment says that if somebody were to put a cat and something that can kill the cat in a box together and close it, then the cat can be considered both dead and alive until the box is opened again to confirm it. With this, Odd-Eyes Twin Tail Cat represents both "alive" and "dead" with its dual-colored eyes, but needs Blue-Eyes White Cat (life) and Red-Eyes Black Cat (death) on the field to activate its effects. The effects of the Spell and Traps also represent this, as the outcome they pick is both right and wrong until the card type of the card sent to the Graveyard to use cards' effect is revealed.

Odd-Eyes Twin Tail Cat Odd-Eyes Pendulum Dragon
Red-Eyes Black Cat Red-Eyes Black Dragon

The second subset has a stellar theme and used by The☆Nyandestar, referencing her alien nature and feline appearance. This theme is based on Fusion Summoning, with the Fusion Monsters having name puns with the word "nya", which is an onomatopoeia used for cat noises in Japanese as well as the first part of Nyandestar's name.

Both branches also reference the myth of the Nekomata, a dangerous cat yokai sometimes depicted with two tails or a forked one.

Playing style[edit]

Cat Decks as used by Kit force the opponent to guess the card type (Monster, Spell or Trap) on the top of their Deck, and apply powerful effects if they guess incorrectly. "Cat's Eye" can enable a flurry of direct attacks, while "Lost Cat" can negate any attack for free; however, both cards depend on the opponent guessing the top of their Deck, and thus are very luck-based. "Odd-Eyes Twin Tail Cat" can recycle the latter card, which can be useful for repeated use or getting a discard fodder for other effects.

Cat Decks as used by Nyandestar are more straightforward, utilizing monsters with 200 DEF and Summoning powerful Fusion Monsters using relatively simple materials to overwhelm the opponent by strengthening the user's monsters and weakening the opponent's. "Cat Claw Girl" is the central monster of the theme, enabling the user to easily retrieve materials and "Fusion" from the Graveyard to setup for a quick Fusion Summon.

Notably, all monsters of the first subset have 200 DEF, so they're all valid targets for card effects of the second subset.
