The focus of the "Digital Bugs" centers on changing the battle positions of monsters on the field to Defense Position. This can be applied on your own monsters to rapidly Summon Level 3 Insect-Type monsters from the hand or Graveyard, thus setting up a quick Rank 3 Xyz Summon - or on the opponent's monsters to leave them vulnerable to the "Digital Bug" Xyz Monsters' attacks and effects. The Rank 3 "Scaradiator" gains effects depending on which Level 3 "Digital Bug" it is Summoned with. The advantage of changing the monsters into Defense Position has some synergy with the "Spider" series, but a combination slows down the Deck compared to a more pure "Digital Bug" build.

Each "Digital Bug" monster has one effect which either changes a monster's Battle Position or activates when its battle position is changed, and grants an additional effect to any Xyz Monster summoned by using it as Xyz Material:

Additionally, "Digital Bug" Xyz Monsters can attach other monsters to them as Xyz Materials through both "Bug Matrix" and their own effects, allowing repeated use of their effects. This also sets up for the higher Rank "Digital Bug" Xyz Monsters, which can be Xyz Summoned through Xyz Evolution using an Insect-Type Xyz Monster that is 1 or 2 Ranks lower by detaching 2 Xyz Materials from it. Important to take into account is that the effects your Rank 3 Insect-type Xyz Monster gained by using the Level 3 "Digital Bugs" as Xyz Material do not carry over to "Corebage" and "Rhinocebus" when summoned through Xyz Evolution, since those are technically not the monsters used for the Xyz Summon, only retained through the clause Xyz Materials attached to that monster also become Xyz Materials on this card.

"Naturia Sacred Tree" and "Resonance Insect" can be combined with Plant-Type Monsters to quickly search "Doom Dozer" and "Anteatereatingant", which have relatively easy Summoning conditions. "Bachibachibachi" works great with the archetype as it is another Level 3 LIGHT Insect-Type, and grants the piercing effect to the Xyz Monster that used it as Xyz Material. Since the "Digital Bug" Xyz Monsters are separated by a 2-Rank gap, "Rank-Up-Magic Astral Force" can help to Xyz Summon the higher Ranked ones even if you don't have enough Xyz Materials, or if you don't want to use them up. Remember that "Astral Force" still does not allow for the effects gained by using the Level 3 "Digital Bugs" as Xyz Material to be transferred to the higher Rank Monsters.

Additionally, "Digital Bug" Xyz Monsters can attach other monsters to them as Xyz Materials through both "Bug Matrix" and their own effects, allowing for repeated use of their effects. This also sets up for the higher Rank "Digital Bug" Xyz Monsters, which can be Xyz Summoned through Xyz Evolution using an Insect Xyz Monster that is 1 or 2 Ranks lower by detaching 2 Xyz Materials from it. However, the "Digital Bugs" only grant their additional effects when directly used for the Xyz Summon of a monster, not when attached later via "Bug Matrix" or carried over through Xyz Evolution by the clause "Xyz Materials attached to that monster also become Xyz Materials on this card".

The Deck does, however, suffer from a shortage of monsters in its current state. There are but a handful of viable monsters among Level 3 LIGHT Insect-type monsters outside of the "Digital Bugs" themselves, at times making it difficult to start the summoning chain with "Scaradiator". This only adds up to the weakness the "Digital Bugs" create by themselves, only being usable for Insect-type Xyz Monsters, which is a small group of monsters by itself as well. Effectively, the Deck will focus on "Scaradiator" and "Number 20: Giga-Brilliant" for its Rank 3 Xyz Summons for the majority of the time, then Xyz Evolve these into "Corebage" and "Rhinocebus". This limits the Deck's options and diversity, unless the player starts with the generic "Number 20", which does not require specific materials but has a somewhat lackluster effect in modern terms.

Remember that "Astral Force" still does not allow for the effects gained by using the Level 3 "Digital Bugs" as Xyz Material to be transferred to the higher Rank Monsters. The archetype also works extremely well with Number 3: Cicada King, as it is a Rank 3 Insect Xyz Monster which benefits from having its battle position changed, can change the battle position of Insect monsters you control, and provides the deck with access to effect negation. Additionally, the ability to change your opponent's monsters into Defense Position has some synergy with the "Spider" series, although a combination slows down the Deck compared to a more pure "Digital Bug" build.

Realistically, even other Insect-type Xyz Monsters are difficult for the Deck to bring out, since its only level manipulation is the Graveyard effect of "Bug Emergency", which restricts the player's freedom of choice to Insect-types once again. This leaves only "Inzektor Exa-Stag" as a viable non-archetype option, barring "Number 20"; "Bug Emergency" can fulfill its requirements by using the Rank 5 "Corebage".
+
The Deck does, however, suffer from a shortage of viable monsters in its current state. There are extremely few viable Level 3 LIGHT Insect monsters outside of the "Digital Bugs" themselves, at times making it difficult to make "Scaradiator" in order to use as material for the higher-Rank Xyz monsters. This is exacerbated by the fact that the "Digital Bugs" can only be used as Xyz Material for the Xyz Summon of an Insect monster, limiting the deck's ability to go into other lines. As there are very few Insect Xyz monsters, the Deck is frequently limited to Xyz Summoning "Scaradiator", "Number 3: Cicada King", or "Number 20: Giga-Brilliant", then optionally Xyz Evolving it into "Corebage" and "Rhinosebus". This limits the Deck's options and diversity, as "Scaradiator" and "Number 3: Cicada King" require all materials used to be Insects, and although "Number 20: Giga-Brilliant" can be summoned with any materials and then used to summon "Corebage", its own effect is relatively weak. While it is possible to summon Xyz Monsters of other ranks directly by using "Bug Emergency" or "Registrider", "Bug Emergency" is a Trap card and requires a monster of the relevant Rank to already be in the Graveyard, and "Registrider" can only change the monsters' levels to exactly 5 or 7. In practice, the only non-Rank 3 Xyz Monsters which are likely to be summoned are "Corebage", "Rhinosebus", and "Inzektor Exa-Stag", as all other options are either weak or require using significant external resources in order to specifically set up the Graveyard for "Bug Emergency".

However, "Galaxy Worm", "Mirror Ladybug" (to a certain extent) and Level 3 support cards like "Crane Crane" and "Mimimic" can help summon other Rank 3 Xyz Monsters. "Mechquipped Angineer" is an especially helpful card for protecting "Corbage" and easily triggers its effect to replenish its Xyz Material.
+
However, "Galaxy Worm", "Mirror Ladybug" (to a certain extent), and generic Level 3 support cards like "Crane Crane" and "Mimimic" can help summon "Number 20: Giga-Brilliant" or other, non-Insect Rank 3 Xyz Monsters; "Mechquipped Angineer" is an especially helpful card for protecting key monsters or activating the effects of your "Digital Bug" monsters on your opponent's turn. Additionally, "Digital Bugs" can still be freely used as Link Material.

Digital Bug (電子光虫デジタル・バグ Dejitaru Bagu) is a series of LIGHT Insect monsters that debuted in Shining Victories.

Lore[edit]

Design[edit]

Appearance[edit]

"Digital Bugs" resemble insects or arachnids of various species merged with, or comprised of, computer components.

Etymology[edit]

"Digital Bug" is a play on glitches in computer systems being called "bugs." The names of the archetype's monsters are portmanteaus, combining an insect's name with that of a computer component.

Members[edit]

Digital Bug Origin
Bug Component
Centibit Centipede Bit
Cocoondenser Cocoon Capacitor (Condenser)
Corebage Cabbage butterfly Multi-core processor
LEDybug Ladybug Light-emitting diode (LED)
Registrider Water strider Hardware register or Processor register
Rhinosebus Rhinoceros beetle Bus
Scaradiator Scarab beetle Heat sink (Radiator)
Websolder Spider Solder

Playing style[edit]

The focus of the "Digital Bugs" centers on changing the battle positions of monsters on the field to Defense Position. This can be applied on your own monsters to rapidly Summon Level 3 Insect monsters from the hand, Deck, or Graveyard, thus setting up a quick Rank 3 Xyz Summon, or on the opponent's monsters to leave them vulnerable to the "Digital Bug" Xyz Monsters' attacks and effects. Each "Digital Bug" monster has one effect which either changes a monster's Battle Position or activates when its battle position is changed, and grants an additional effect to any Xyz Monster summoned by using it as Xyz Material:

Digital Bug Effect related to change in battle position Effect given to Xyz Monster when used as material
Centibit Special Summons a Level 3 Insect monster from the Deck in Defense Position when changed from Attack Position to Defense Position. Can attack all of the opponent's Defense Position monsters once each.
Cocoondenser Special Summons a Level 3 Insect monster from the GY in Defense Position by changing itself from Attack Position to Defense Position. The opponent cannot activate cards or effects until the end of the Damage Step when it attacks a Defense Position monster.
LEDybug Adds a Level 3 Insect monster from the Deck to the hand when changed from Attack Position to Defense Position. The controller draws 1 card when it destroys a monster by battle.
Registrider Changes the battle position of 1 Insect monster the owner controls if Special Summoned from the hand. This card gains 1000 ATK/DEF.
Websolder Special Summons a Level 3 Insect monster from the hand in Defense Position by changing 1 of the controller's Attack Position monsters to Defense Position. Makes the DEF of the opponent's monsters 0 and changes them to Defense Position, when Xyz Summoned.

"Naturia Sacred Tree" and "Resonance Insect" can be combined with Plant Monsters to quickly search "Doom Dozer" and "Anteatereatingant", which have relatively easy Summoning conditions. "Bachibachibachi" works great with the archetype as it is another Level 3 LIGHT Insect, and grants the piercing effect to the Xyz Monster that used it as Xyz Material.

Konami's Example Deck[edit]

Digital Bug Burn OTK/FTK[edit]

To perform this OTK you need two "Digital Bug Cocoondenser" (one on your field, the other in the Graveyard), one card to Tribute it to inflict damage, and one card that can repeatedly change "Cocoondenser" to Attack Position.

 • Step 1: Use the effect of the "Cocoondenser" on your field to revive the other from your Graveyard in Defense Position. Due to the effect of the final card listed above, the revived "Cocoondenser" will be changed to Attack Position.
 • Step 2: Tribute the "Cocoondenser" that already activated its effect to inflict damage to your opponent.
 • Step 3: Since the revived "Cocoondenser" is in Attack Position, it can activate its effect to revive the first "Cocoondenser", allowing you to repeat this process infinitely to inflict infinite burn damage to your opponent.

To do a FTK you can use "Temple of the Kings" or "Qardan the Clear-Sighted" to activate "Level Limit - Area A" or "All-Out Attacks" the same turn it is Set. However, "Qardan the Clear-Sighted" requires you to Normal Summon it, making it more difficult to use on the first turn while also summoning "Cocoondenser".
