OCG Rulings
- If the activation of your opponent's Spell/Trap card is negated with "Magic Jammer" or "Seven Tools of the Bandit" while "Medium of the Ice Barrier" is on the field, your opponent can activate another Spell/Trap Card.[1]
- If "Magic Jammer" is chained to "Geartown", "Magic Jammer" resolves first and negates and destroys "Geartown" as Chain Link 2. Chain Link 1 does not resolve since "Geartown"'s activation was negated. The last thing to resolve is "Magic Jammer", so you can activate the effect of "Geartown" and Special Summon an "Ancient Gear" monster.[2]
- If the activation of "Spell Power Grasp" is negated by "Magic Jammer" etc, then another "Spell Power Grasp" can be activated.[3]
- If the activation of "Reinforce Truth" is negated by an effect like "Seven Tools of the Bandit" or "Magic Jammer" [sic], then you can still enter your Battle Phase. If only the effect of "Reinforce Truth" is negated by an effect like "Royal Decree", then you cannot enter your Battle Phase.[4][5]
- While an effect like that of "Banisher of the Radiance" or "Macro Cosmos" is active, it is impossible to discard a card to the Graveyard. The activation costs of the effects of "Jowgen the Spiritualist", "Abyss Soldier" and "Return of the Doomed" require you to discard a card to the Graveyard, which is impossible, so you cannot activate their effects. However, the activation costs of effects like "Magic Jammer" only require you to discard a card, so you can activate their effects since the card does not need to be discarded to the Graveyard.[6]
- Counter Trap Cards are Spell Speed 3, so you cannot activate the Spell Speed 2 effect of "Stardust Dragon" in Chain to the effect of a Counter Trap Card like "Magic Jammer", "Seven Tools of the Bandit", or "Divine Wrath".[7]
Mentions in Other Rulings
- If you have an active Field Spell Card and want to activate a new one, then you first send your old Field Spell Card to the Graveyard and then activate the new one. If your opponent activates "Magic Jammer" to negate the activation of the new one, then the old one has already been sent to the Graveyard, so it does not return to the Field Card Zone.[8]
- Dark Eradicator Warlock: If the activation of a Spell Card is negated - such as with "Magic Jammer" - while "Dark Eradicator Warlock" is face-up on the field, then the effect of "Dark Eradicator Warlock" does not inflict damage to the opponent.[9]
- Sword of Deep-Seated: If the activation of "Sword of Deep-Seated" is negated and it is sent to the Graveyard by an effect like "Magic Jammer", then "Sword of Deep-Seated" was still sent to the Graveyard, so its effect activates and it is returned to the top of the Deck.[10]
- Sebek's Blessing: "Sebek's Blessing" is activated during the Damage Step of the Battle Phase. "Imperial Order" cannot be activated during the Damage Step, so you cannot Chain "Imperial Order" to "Sebek's Blessing". "Magic Jammer", "Magic Drain", and "Solemn Judgment" can be activated during the Damage Step, so you can Chain these cards to "Sebek's Blessing".[11]
Previously Official Rulings
These TCG rulings were issued by Upper Deck Entertainment and have since been declared unofficial by Konami.[13] They were previously considered official and can still be correct, as long as they follow the official gameplay rules, or unless Konami has issued a ruling that says otherwise. Mentions in Other Rulings
- Bait Doll: If "Bait Doll" is activated and targets "Magic Jammer", "Magic Drain", etc. the opponent may chain the Trap Card to negate and destroy "Bait Doll". If he/she does not, the Trap Card will be destroyed since the activation timing is incorrect, and "Bait Doll" will be shuffled into your Deck.
- Black Pendant: If this card's activation is negated, such as with "Magic Jammer" or "Riryoku Field" it does not do damage to your opponent.
- Bountiful Artemis: If "Seven Tools of the Bandit" is used to negate the activation of another Counter Trap Card, such as "Magic Jammer", you will not draw a card for "Magic Jammer" since its activation was negated.
- Burst Stream of Destruction: If "Burst Stream of Destruction's" activation is negated by "Magic Jammer", then "Blue-Eyes White Dragon" can attack.
- Clock Tower Prison: Putting a Clock Counter on "Clock Tower Prison" can be chained to. The effect to Special Summon "Destiny Hero - Dreadmaster" can also be chained to. Even though this effect can be chained to, it cannot be chained to with an effect that negates the activation of a Spell Card, such as "Magic Jammer" or "Horus the Black Flame Dragon LV8" because the "Clock Tower Prison" card has already resolved.
- Curse of Darkness: "Curse of Darkness" inflicts 1000 damage right after the Spell Card is activated, not when it resolves. If the Spell Card's activation is negated however, such as with "Magic Jammer", then no damage is inflicted because the activation was negated.
- Curse of Royal: You can use "Curse of Royal" against cards like "Magic Jammer", "Seven Tools of the Bandit", "Solemn Judgment", "Curse of Royal", "Mystical Space Typhoon", "Dust Tornado", "Magic Drain", "Riryoku Field", "Judgment of Anubis", etc.
- Dark Eradicator Warlock: If a Normal Spell Card's activation is negated (by "Magic Jammer" etc.), then no damage is dealt by "Dark Eradicator Warlock".
- Destiny Board: The placing of a Spirit Message on the field by the effect of "Destiny Board" cannot be negated with "Magic Jammer", "Magic Drain", "Solemn Judgment", etc.
- Destiny Hero - Diamond Dude: Since the Spell Card itself is not activated (only its effect is), your opponent cannot chain "Magic Jammer", "Dark Deal", "Barrel Behind the Door" or any other card that has to be chained to the activation of a Spell Card.
- Fairy Guardian: Spell Cards that are eligible for this card's effect include: Set Spell Cards, Equip Spell Cards, or Continuous Spell Cards destroyed by your opponent's card effects and Spell Cards negated and destroyed by an opponent's "Magic Jammer", "Solemn Judgment", "Horus the Black Flame Dragon LV8", etc. It also includes Spell Cards discarded from your hand by your opponent's card effect, like "Delinquent Duo" or "Confiscation" and Spell Cards sent from your Deck to the Graveyard by your opponent's "Needle Worm", "Don Zaloog", "Vampire Lord", etc.
- Fusion Sword Murasame Blade: When you activate this card, the opponent can chain a card like "Magic Jammer" that will negate its activation and destroy it.
- Gravekeeper's Watcher: You cannot activate "Gravekeeper's Watcher" when a card is discarded as a cost, such as "Magic Jammer", "Kuriboh", "Tribute to the Doomed", "Thunder Dragon", or "Type Zero Magic Crusher".
- Great Shogun Shien: If "Great Shogun Shien" is face-up, and the activation of your opponent's Spell/Trap Card is negated (by "Magic Jammer", etc.), they can still activate 1 more Spell/Trap Card after that.
- Inferno Fire Blast: If "Imperial Order" is chained to "Inferno Fire Blast", the effect of "Inferno Fire Blast" is negated but "Red-Eyes B. Dragon" cannot attack. However, if "Magic Jammer" negates the activation of "Inferno Fire Blast", your "Red-Eyes B. Dragon" can attack.
- Night Assailant: "Night Assailant" doesn't have to be sent to the Graveyard by an effect, or by an effect controlled by your opponent; it just has to be sent to the Graveyard. "Night Assailant's" effect activates when sent to the Graveyard as a cost for "Magic Jammer" or "Tribe-Infecting Virus"; "Night Assailant's" effect activates after the current chain resolves.
- Offerings to the Doomed: Skipping your next Draw Phase is not a cost, so if your opponent chains "Magic Jammer" or "Imperial Order" to negate this card, you do NOT skip your next Draw Phase.
- Ojamagic: The effect of "Ojamagic" activates in the Graveyard, and it can be chained to. It cannot be negated by "Magic Jammer" or "Dark Balter the Terrible".
- Scapegoat: If your opponent chains "Magic Jammer" to your "Scapegoat" you may still perform Summons that turn, but if they chain "Imperial Order" you may not perform Summons.
- Smoke Grenade of the Thief: If your opponent chains "Magic Jammer", "Magic Drain", etc., to negate and destroy this card, its effect does not activate.
- Spell Absorption: If the activation of a Spell Card is negated by "Magic Jammer", etc., then you will not gain Life Points for "Spell Absorption".
- Spell Counter: You place a Spell Counter on this card when the Spell Card resolves, so if "Magic Jammer" is used to negate the Spell Card's activation then you do not place a Spell Counter on this monster. ....
- Spirit Reaper: "Spirit Reaper" is destroyed by its own effect after a card that targets it resolves. If a Spell Card targets it, and the activation of that Spell Card is negated (such as with "Magic Jammer"), then "Spirit Reaper" is not destroyed. However, if the effect of the Spell Card was negated, such as if "Imperial Order" is active, then "Spirit Reaper" is destroyed because the Spell Card resolves (even though its effect is negated). Even if "Imperial Order" is already active on the field, you can activate a card such as "Tribute to the Doomed" designating "Spirit Reaper", and "Spirit Reaper" will be destroyed by its own effect.
- Spirit Reaper: If "Spirit Reaper" is targeted by an Equip Spell Card, and an effect like "Dust Tornado" is chained to destroy the Equip Spell Card before it resolves, "Spirit Reaper" is still destroyed because the activation of the Equip Spell Card was not negated, even though the effect of the Equip Spell Card is not applied. (If "Magic Jammer" or "Riryoku Field" was used instead, then "Spirit Reaper" would not be destroyed because both of those Trap Cards would negate the Equip Spell Card's activation.)
- Van'Dalgyon the Dark Dragon Lord: When you activate multiple Counter Trap Cards in the same Chain, the last one to resolve and negate an effect will be applied to "Van'Dalgyon the Dark Dragon Lord's" effect.
- Example: Your opponent activates "Pot of Greed". You chain "Magic Jammer". Your opponent chains "Seven Tools of the Bandit". You chain "Curse of Royal". When the Chain resolves, "Magic Jammer" is your last Counter Trap Card that resolves and negates your opponent's "Pot of Greed", so you will be able to Special Summon "Van'Dalgyon the Dark Dragon Lord" and activate its "inflict 1500 damage" effect.
- Van'Dalgyon the Dark Dragon Lord: If you activate "Magic Jammer," etc. and discard "Night Assailant" for its activation cost, the effects of "Night Assailant" and "Van'Dalgyon the Dark Dragon Lord" will start a new Chain after the Chain that included your "Magic Jammer" resolves. "Night Assailant's" effect will be Chain Link 1 and "Van'Dalgyon the Dark Dragon Lord's" will be Chain Link 2.
- Wave-Motion Cannon: Your opponent cannot chain "Magic Jammer", or use "Dark Paladin", etc., when you send "Wave-Motion Cannon" from the field to the Graveyard. Your opponent CAN chain "Magic Jammer" or use "Dark Paladin", etc., when you first activate "Wave-Motion Cannon" (meaning when you place it face-up on the field).
Judge List Rulings
- Ancient City - Rainbow Ruins: A card like "Magic Jammer" can only be chained to the initial activation of "Ancient City - Rainbow Ruins". If the effect of "Ancient City - Rainbow Ruins" is activated then "Magic Jammer", ect, cannot be chained.[12]
