A Black Feather Counter (黒（くろ）羽（はね）カウンター Kurohane Kauntā) is a type of counter exclusively used by "Black-Winged Dragon". They can also be placed on "Black-Winged Dragon" by "Blackwing - Auster the South Wind".

In the TCG and OCG, whenever its controller would take effect damage, "Black-Winged Dragon" gains a Black Feather Counter instead, but loses 700 ATK for each counter it has on it as a result. "Black-Winged Dragon" can remove all of its Black Feather Counters to reduce the ATK of an opposing monster by 700 points for each counter removed and inflict that same amount as damage to the opponent.

In the early Yu-Gi-Oh! 5D's anime, "Black-Winged Dragon" originally did not use Black Feather Counters. Instead, it could absorbing all effect damage its controller would have taken but lose the same amount of ATK, but could later restore its ATK by reducing all opponent's monsters' ATK by the total amount of damage it had absorbed (without inflicting any effect damage itself). Later in the 5D's anime, it worked more similarly to the TCG and OCG.

There is a "Black Feather Counter" card that officially represents Black Feather Counters.
