Forum:Deck Contest 12: A Sign of Dark Times?

From Yugipedia
Jump to: navigation, search

Well, Stardust Overdrive completes the TCG mass release of Dark Signer cards, and the second season of Yu-Gi-Oh! 5D's has moved on from the Dark Signers, leaving them rest. So, we have a challenge: build a competitive Dark Signer-based deck. The decks should not be EI based, unless you pick Kalin, as he only has had a few cards released from his archetype, though it may contain the EI used by that Dark Signer. So, here's the list of Dark Signers to pick from:

We will allow up to 2 people to pick the same Dark Signer, so there is a maximum capacity of 14 contestants. Deck posting is allowed on the 28th of October. Anyone who posts after that, except with an exception from a WDC Head, will be disqualified. Have fun, and start building! DemonGodAsura 21:18, October 21, 2009 (UTC)

Questions

Can we use confirmed cards from Absolute Powerforce? And since Devack (I hate that name) has next-to-none of his Apes released in reality, what's the policy on using anime/video game cards? Runer5h 19:14, October 22, 2009 (UTC)Runer5h

Yes I'd like anime cards also, for misty's sad story cards Batteriespwn 19:18, October 22, 2009 (UTC)

  • Yes, cards from Absolute Powerforce can be used, as they contain Rex's cards. Devack follows the same rules a Kalin, you can make it around his EI. Though, you may also make a Beast-themed deck, as I believe Zeman the Ape King has been released in the OCG. As far as anime and video game only cards, no. We have never allowed them to be used under any circumstance before, and we won't start now. DemonGodAsura 02:14, October 23, 2009 (UTC)

Before I join in on this, I'd like to point out that the Infernities actually do have a load of their cards released in the promotionals. Those can be used, can't they? --Gadjiltron 11:16, October 23, 2009 (UTC)

  • Yes, they be used. It was never said that they couldn't, and with there being a small amount of them, it was expected that making a deck of just Infernities would be difficult. DemonGodAsura 04:46, October 24, 2009 (UTC)

If Zeman the Ape King can be used, would I be allowed to use Underground Arachne?--Akiza'sRose66 20:04, October 24, 2009 (UTC)

  • Yes, you can use any available OCG or TCG card, including cards from Absolute Powerforce. The only cards that aren't allowed are anime or video game only cards. DemonGodAsura 20:31, October 24, 2009 (UTC)

My idea for my Spider deck involves mixing 2 Archetypes together. Would this still be allowed, since half of the deck is Insect based?--Akiza'sRose66 23:35, October 25, 2009 (UTC)

  • It is allowed. You may use any other cards, though it must focus on enhancing your Dark Signer archetype. DemonGodAsura 04:54, October 26, 2009 (UTC)

What is the least number of Spiders I would be allowed to use? I currently only have 3 different Spiders in my deck, but there are 5 total.--Akiza'sRose66 14:30, October 26, 2009 (UTC)

  • That's fine, I guess. Just build around the Spiders. DemonGodAsura 15:17, October 26, 2009 (UTC)

It should be at least the 28th October now... Are we allowed to begin posting decks? --Gadjiltron 11:35, October 29, 2009 (UTC)

Can We Use card Used in the anime that are in the deck of the person we choose? ARMOR MASTER RULES!!!! 11:49, October 29, 2009 (UTC)

  • I believe that it was already said that NO ANIME-ONLY CARDS ARE ALLOWED.

Incan Gadgets

Not the first thing you'd think of when you tried to make an Inca deck, I'm sure. Well, it took me three tries to figure this idea out, but it's the best of all the Inca-based decks I've tried.

Before I explain the deck itself, here's why I made it a hybrid; I tried Incans on their own but it didn't work out. It was a very luck-sacky deck at best. So, hoping to shore up the weaknesses I tried a Skill Drain variant. But I couldn't draw into my Skill Drains and it flopped. So, this is what I ended up with - Incan Gadgets.

The thing is, Gadgets are all about having a steady flow of monsters while your opponent does not. Now, look at the effects of the Incan monsters - when they are sent from the field to the graveyard in some way, you get a card, even if (in the case of Red Ant Azcatl) the advantage is only temporary. Also, the Incans, with the exception of Apocatequil, are fairly weak and thus I need to protect them, like Gadgets.

So, they're similar, but what does one give the other? Well, Gadgets give the Incan monsters consistency and resilience. Often I was finding that due to one of my monsters being destroyed, I got backed into a hole that I couldn't get out of; not a problem for Gadgets. But what the Incans give Gadgets is offensive power. Due to the ease at which I search my three tuners, I can pull off easy synchro summons; in addition, the Priests of the Sun allow for a mini-swarm when summoned before a Gadget. (I've found the best opening the deck has is DEF-position Priest of the Sun, a Gadget, and a protection card face-down.)

Here's the line-up; I have 3 Priest of the Sun, 2 Supay, 1 Red Ant and 1 Apocatequil. Priest of the Sun is a very useful card with its high DEF and Cyber Dragon-esque ability, but it also can search out Supay or Red Ant. So, when it's destroyed I don't lose much card advantage and I can synchro summon next turn, potentially. The 2 Supay special summon a 2000-ATK Priest when sent to the grave by a card effect, and bounce it to my hand at the turn's end. That's good for me, and it's also a tuner. Red Ant and Apocatequil are only at one each because their effects require set-up - they special summon from the grave while Priest and Supay search from the deck. However, as one's a tuner and the other's a beatstick, and both are Incan cards, I couldn't get rid of them entirely.

As for the Gadget part of the deck - I originally wanted to have only 2 of each Gadget, but I found I was often unable to draw any, which cost me games. Thus, as I removed unnecessary parts of the deck I was able to put in an extra one of each, which really helps with consistency. Now for the rest of the monsters - Tragoedia is great for Gadgets, as it means that I can keep a monster on the field and make use of my Gadget-augmented hand size. It also works very well with the Inca part because it can allow easy synchro summons. Then, Giant Rat can search out any Gadget and thus add another one to my hand, or it can search out a tuner. Sangan can search out almost all the monsters, and Cyber Dragon is another easy special summon to maintain field presence. All but three or four of the monsters in the deck are self-replacing.

The spell line-up is a bit skimpy, but it works. Shrink protects Gadgets in battle and lets them run over larger threats. Fissure destroys my opponent's monsters, of course. MST and Heavy Storm deal with traps, while Lightning Vortex takes out swarms.

The traps are lots of fun. Dimensional Prison and Bottomless allow me to remove my opponent's monsters in a way they can't rectify easily. Threatening Roar can stop my precious gizmos from being destroyed for a turn. Solemn keeps my opponent's cards out of my hair, Mirror Force can punish my opponent's attacks, and Torrential is a great way to turn the tide of a game. It also combos very well with Supay.

The extra deck is one of the reasons that the Inca deck can be so good. Sun Dragon Inti and Moonlight Dragon Quilla can each be very good cards on their own, but once the cycle gets started, things get really fun because as soon as one is destroyed the other comes right back. The other synchros are also very good - Beast is one of the best, as it is spell negation that takes no toll on my hand size.

Tell me what you think of this concept deck. Runer5h 19:51, October 29, 2009 (UTC)Runer5h

Stone Cold

OK so this is my Reptilianne deck the main goal of it is to control the opponent's monsters by reducing their monsters ATK and gaining control of it by using the effects of my cards. Where better to start than the monsters the cards, the basis is to summon Reptilianne Gorgon and use it's effect to reduce my opponent's monsters when it survives a battle. If this should fail I can use the other effects of my other Reptilianne cards such as Medusa which can easily reduce the ATK of monsters to 0, without having to battle. The majority of other monsters in the deck either help in reducing ATK or taking control of them once their ATK has been reduced. The Synchros are mostly staples for an Extra Deck with Hydra being included as a quick monster destruction card when needed.

The Spells are based on increasing my Life Points given the large amount of attacking I'll be having to do. The other spells help in reducing or forcing my opponent to attack my monsters resulting in them losing their monsters or attack, the main card which helps with attack reduction is Burden of the Mighty which, when used in bulk, can make even the highest attack monster be easily destroyed by my weaker cards. The remaining spells are either staples or, in the case of Mind Control, can be used to steal my opponents monsters and use them for a quick Synchro summon. Finally the Traps only a few but they help out quite a bit, Waboku protects my monster and help to kick off the effect of Gorgon or Naja. Mirror Force, Call of the Haunted and Solemn Judgment are staples and finally Snake Choke and Spirit Barrier, these can be used in combination Reptilianne Naja to continually protect my life points from damage while I can inflict potentially large amounts of damage.

So there's my deck, I hope you all like it. :) --Trivi-AM (talk) 21:05, October 29, 2009 (UTC)

Infernal void

the main focus of the deck is to send monsters (specifically destroyer, beast and chaos necromancer) to the graveyard to copy their effects using one hundred eye dragon and phantom of chaos. full salvo and common charity can both empty my hand increasing the number of cards in my grave and allowing the use of the infernities effects. Mystic tomato can search out the majority of my monsters and allows me to summon the monster I need as well as thinning the deck.Shrink makes it easier to destroy my opponents monsters, as most of mine have low attack, as well as giving infernity destroyer a bigger impact on my opponents lifepoints. I can use the effect of chaos necromancer or return from the differnt dimmension to get enough combined attack to finnish my opponent off.

Spidersworns

Has anyone seen Rudger lately? Man, that guy needs some time in the sun. Don't worry though, I fixed his deck up tso that he'll see the light, plus win all of his duels in the process!! Meet the Spidersworns!!

Monsters

I think I did okay, but I wish they would come out with more support for the Spiders archetype. Most of the insects are self-explanitory, but Doom Dozer shines especially. Remember the old Demise/Doom OTK? Well this is can turn into a Judgement Dragon/Doom Dozer OTK. Ehren, Lightsworn Monk is also a very good addition, since the Spiders are based around shutting your opponent's monsters into Defence Position. Spyder Spider is mostly used to bring back a milled Ground Spider or Koa'ki Meiru Beetle, and Plaguespreader Zombie is a must-have in any deck with Lightsworns.

Spells

Most of these are just staples, but there area few that are teched specifically for the deck, like Enemy Controller,Charge of the Light Brigade, and Monster Reincarnation.

Traps

I couldn't fit many Traps in, because there are quite a few monsters in the deck. No Entry!! works amazingly with both Ground Spider and Dark Mirror Force. Call of the Haunted is just a staple, and Dark Mirror Force is amazing in a deck based around making your opponent's monsters going to Defense Position.

Extra Deck

This deck runs most of the basic Synchros, such as Stardust Dragon, Red Dragon Archfiend, and Ancient Fairy Dragon. One of the most interesting Synchros this deck can pull off though, is the Underground Arachne, since Plaguespreader Zombie is a Tuner Monster that can bring itself back when my opponent least expects, especially after I nuke the field with JD.

  • IMPORTANT NOTE* I know that I used a lot more Lightsworn than I did Spiders, but trust me, the deck runs based around those creepy crawlies, the Lightsworns are just the fuel on the fire. Plus, there are only 5 different Spiders in the set right now. I couldn't use Mother Spider with all of the non-insects, and I find Dark Spider somewhat useless, since it doesn't even contribute to the strategy. Please vote for me, I would love to win my first WDC!!!--Black Rose 22:18, October 29, 2009 (UTC)

∞ Sight Stream!!

C'mon! Satisfy me! You know you want to!

This is the Kiryu Deck I built from some time ago, revolving around his Infernities and making use of One-Hundred Eye Dragon to pull out his EBG, just like he's been doing in the anime. Since this Deck gains a lot when I'm topdecking, there's no harm in going a little overboard with Phoenix Wing Wind Blast and Lightning Vortex to take out whatever stands in the way.

Since the main way of getting 100ED out would be through Krebons + Caius or Destroyer, Fires of Doomsday is often abused to pull out Tribute fodder for Ccapac Apu or the LV6 fiends. Mystic Plasma Zone is used to pump all the monsters up to sheer levels, to allow for Infernity Beast to be more of a threat with its Ancient Gear protection effect, and for Destroyer to be able to punch through more monsters and deal more damage. Oh, and Ccapac Apu turns into a beast that will crush the opponent in a couple blows some time into the game, too.

Extra cards stuck in hand? No harm done, just toss them into the Grave for costs or Set them if they're S/Ts. Need them later? Infernity Force is one sick revival card that can fetch discarded Destroyers so as to Synchro 100ED soon. If that's not enough yet, Infernity Necromancer can pull out other Infernities to match up the level requirement of whatever's going to be Synchro Summoned, or fetch Infernity Archfiend to swarm faster. And Pot of Avarice is a good backup plan in case the hand needs some emergency replenishment.

Hand size management? Who needs them? With the Handless Combo, you too will be satisfied! Gya~hahahahahaha!!! --Gadjiltron 08:33, October 30, 2009 (UTC)

Naturia/Spiders

Hey all, this is Swaggs. For this contest, I've put together a nice combination of Naturias and Spiders for this deck, which the two archetypes surprisingly work well with each other. Main strategy is to stun the opponent with Naturia and bombard the opponent's defense with the Spiders.

Spreading the Web

It was a little hard coming up with ways to force the opponent into defense, but even before that was the problem of stopping the opponent while setting up the necessary cards. This is where Naturia Antjaw shines; whenever the opponent special summons, Antjaw can summon a Naturia comrade to help him out. Two other targets can help out: Naturia Flightfly and Naturia Butterfly. Flightfly works like a Burden of the Mighty in that he reduces the opponent's atk and defense, effectively crippling their offense. To add insult to injury, Butterfly can stop an opponent's attack once per turn by sending the top card of the deck to the grave. This can also effectively set up the necessary requirements for the effects of Sacrifice Spider and Mother Spider to activate, so in this deck, the Naturias help set up the stage for the Spiders to roam. Some other cards like Ground Spider, Field of Spiderwebs and No Entry!! also stop enemy attack, and a neat combo with the field spell involves Ancient Fairy Dragon in which it can destroy the field spell, gain LP, let me attack without getting caught in the spider web and put up the same field spell again! Finally, honors goes to Card Rotator, an oft overlooked card which I think has nice potential. It can either function like No Entry in order to switch every monster to defense, but can also expose hidden flip effect monsters to possibly prevent a hidden surprise that could turn the tide of the game. It also helps set up for the Spiders' effects, which is another plus.

Snacktime

While the opponent's monsters are struggling and constantly being switched to defense mode, a noticable card to note is Sacrifice Spider. A small insect with a big potential to wipe out the opponent's field, this monster should not be underestimated at all times. Another card to note is Mother Spider, who can operate like a Lava Golem but instead summoned to your side of the field, which is a gigantic plus. For the last monster to note, Koa'ki Meiru Beetle is a 2100 atk beatstick who can snag up Light and Dark monsters, a must-have for this type of deck. Even if a monster is destroyed during the attack, Verdant Sanctuary adds back more insects to start the offensive once more.

Whether spreading the web or going for the kill, this Naturia/Spider deck crumbles opponents while they struggle, stuck to a web which won't let go. Hope you guys like this deck. Swaggs 07:50, October 31, 2009 (UTC)
