Metarion (メタリオン Metarion) is a series of LIGHT monsters which debuted in Extra Transcend Enhancement Pack and used by Yuo Goha in the Yu-Gi-Oh! SEVENS anime. It is supported by the Imaginary Arc (イマジナリー・アーク Imajinarī Āku) series of Spell/Trap Cards.

Members[edit]

The Main Deck members of the series are based on circus troupe members, such as mascots, magicians and clowns, while the Metarion Fusion Monsters are designed after mythological beings and twist the appearance of their non-"Imaginary Actor" materials with cybernetics. All of the Fusion Monsters wear the gold and white mask of "Imaginary Actor" on their head. Each of the flavor texts of the Normal Monster members (except for "Imaginary Actor") detail the respective member's life before joining the circus. All of the Main Deck monsters have 500 DEF (with the Level 4 Normal Monsters having 1400 ATK), while the Fusion Monsters are Level 9 Cyborg Type Fusion Monsters with 2500 DEF (with all also having 2800 ATK, except "Metarion King Cobrastar", which has 3000 ATK but requires a Level 5 monster as material). All "Imaginary Arc" Spells/Trap Cards include イマジナリー・アーク・ター Imajinarī Āku Tā in their names as a reference to "Imaginary Actor".

Playing style[edit]

Metarion Decks are a Fusion theme, aiming to use "Fusion" to combine "Imaginary Actor" with various other Normal Monsters to form the Metarion Fusion Monsters, which serve as boss monsters for the Deck. Each Metarion monster can choose between two effects: one that can be used any time, or one stronger effect if the opponent controls a monster with the same Type as the original Type of the monster (other than "Imaginary Actor") used as its Fusion Material.

Metarion Effect
Generic Type-based
Ashurastar Destroy 1 face-down card on your opponent's field. 1 face-up Cyborg Type monster on your field gains ATK equal to [the total ATK of all face-up Warrior Type monsters currently on your opponent's field] until the end of this turn.
Eraclestar Shuffle up to 3 monsters from your opponent's Graveyard into the Deck. Shuffle up to 2 face-up Spellcaster Type monsters on your opponent's field into the Deck.
King Cobrastar Draw 2 cards. Then, send 1 card from your hand to the Graveyard. Up to 3 face-up Reptile Type monsters on your opponent's field lose 1000 ATK/DEF until the end of this turn. This card can attack twice during this turn.
Ladonstar 1 face-up monster on your opponent's field loses 1500 ATK/DEF until the end of this turn. All face-up Dinosaur Type monsters currently on your opponent's field lose 2000 ATK/DEF until the end of this turn.
Vritrastar Change 1 monster on your opponent's field to face-up Attack Position or face-down Defense Position. Destroy face-up Dragon Type monsters on your opponent's field, up to [the number of face-up Cyborg Type monsters on your field].

As a Fusion theme without high-Level monsters, the Imaginary series can be played as an engine in any Fusion Deck using "Star Restart" for more consistency and versatility, especially ones with other LIGHT Attribute monsters or with Type support that synergizes with the Types of certain Imaginary monsters.

Trivia[edit]

  • The first 4 Metarion Fusion Monsters seem be paired together, connected by their shared mythological sources and effect structure. The pairs are composed of a humanoid warrior and a dragon.
    • The Hindu-based duo ("Ashurastar" and "Vritrastar") and have generic effects that are quite different from their anti-type effect. Said anti-type effect also ties to the Cyborg Type.
    • The Greek-based duo ("Eraclestar" and "Ladonstar") have generic and anti-type effects that are similar, and their anti-type effects do not involve the Cyborg Type.
  • "King Cobrastar" is the first Metarion Fusion Monster not to be based on mythology, and also the first to be neither a draconic monster nor a humanoid warrior; instead it is based on a real animal, a snake.
