The Maiden in Love, known as The Strong Deck with Beloved Maiden! in the Japanese version, is the twentieth episode of Yu-Gi-Oh! GX. It aired in Japan on February 16, 2005, and in the US on November 21, 2005.

Episode Summary

One day, during dinner, Professor Banner announced that a new student was joining Slifer Red, Blair. Blair was a transfer student who passed all of his entrance exams with high scores, so he would only be in the dorm for a short time. He was only in the dorm because of the rules. The following day, Chancellor Sheppard announced that the upcoming duel between their school and their rival, North Academy. A student will be chosen from both schools to represent them and duel to see who is the best. Jaden wanted to get in on that and Blair seemed to be acting strange when looking at Zane.

Afterwards, Jaden, Syrus and Chumley were walking outside when Jaden saw Blair sneaking around the Obelisk dorm. Jaden secretly followed him and watched as Blair climbed up a tree to a balcony that was Zane's room. Blair went into Zane's desk drawer, took out his deck and started to fondle them gingerly. Jaden found it to be weird and when Blair saw him, he ran. Jaden tried to grab him but only pulled off his hat and revealed that Blair was actually a girl. She ran off and Jaden was caught by Zane and his friends. They accused him of trying to steal the deck, but Zane let him go. That night, he told about the incident to Alexis at the lighthouse. Zane apparently, found Blair's brooch and figured out her secret. Meanwhile, Syrus and Chumley noticed that Jaden wasn't in the room. He was outside at the beach with Blair and talking about how he know's her secret. Jaden didn't want to know why she was at the academy and disguised herself because he figured a duel would be the the only way to find out. Syrus, Alexis and Zane and Chumley watched the event from the cliff above.

The duel started with Blair playing the Maiden in Love. In return, a cute little girl appeared in front of Blair, giggling. She appeared a little older than Blair, with long, auburn hair hanging just below her waist, and wore a beautiful yellow dress. Right after seeing the girl, Syrus commented of how cute she was. Jaden then goes, and summons Avian and has him attack the maiden. After the attack, the maiden is still on the field, crying. Blair explains that the maiden cannot be destroyed in attack position. Then Winged Kuriboh guided Jaden through the situation. In fact, Avian was now falling in love with the maiden. Jaden watched as Avian comforted the maiden, getting closer to her. Then Blair explained when a monster attacks the maiden, they get a maiden counter.

It's now Blair's turn. She equips Cupids Kiss to the maiden, and then has her attack Avian. The maiden skips over to Avian, but Avian trips her, and she falls on her face. The maiden starts crying and says Avian is mean to her. Avian comforts her, and says he is sorry. In response, the maiden blew a kiss to Avain. Now more in love with the maiden then he is loyal to Jaden, Avian is on Blair's side with his love. Afterwards, Jaden summons Sparkman and tries to attack Avian, but Blair plays the trap card "Defense Maiden" and makes Sparkman attack Maiden in Love, and falls in love for her too, and they both attack Jaden, on Blair's turn. And Jaden reaches a conclusion: to defeat a girl, whose every boy fall in love with her, he needs a woman to confront her, so he calls Burstinatrix, who yells with Avian and Sparkman, in rage. And Jaden plays a card that puts Avian and Sparkman again in his field. Then he uses Polymerization, to fuse Avian and Burstinatrix to create Flame Wingman and he destroys Maiden in Love and wins the duel.

Afterwards, Zane confronted Blair and revealed that Blair had a crush on him, but she shouldn't try to pursue him because she was too young, only with 8 years old, and she was only in second grade. The next morning, the school had Blair take off on the next boat off the island. She started to build a crush on Jaden and promised to write to him everyday.
