Zombie counterparts are a series of Zombie monsters identified by having an existing non-Zombie counterpart. They usually share their living counterparts' ATK, DEF, or Attribute.
Zombie counterparts sometimes have effects similar to those of their counterparts but worked to go with the theme of manipulating Zombie monsters you own or control, typically either summoning them, sending them to the Graveyard, or banishing them out of the Graveyard to trigger effects.

"Call of the Haunted"[edit]
In the manga and anime, "Call of the Haunted" was used to revive monsters in the Graveyard as Zombies. This would Summon them as decayed versions of their former selves, which would continue to revive each time they were destroyed (unless these monsters had 0 ATK). As they could only fight on instinct, they had 0 DEF.
When released in the OCG and TCG, the counterparts were Normal Monsters, two Levels lower than their original counterparts and with no connection to "Call of the Haunted".
In the video game, Yu-Gi-Oh! Duel Monsters, these zombie counterparts can be Summoned by fusing the original monster with "Life Eater", "B.eye Silv. Zombie", or "Hourglass of Life".
In Yu-Gi-Oh! Forbidden Memories, these zombie counterparts can be Summoned by fusing each of the original monsters with a different means of killing them; "Warrior Elimination" for "Zanki", "Dragon Capture Jar" for "Crawling Dragon", and "Final Flame" for "Crass Clown".

Synchro Zombies[edit]
"Plaguespreader Zombie" Synchro Zombies[edit]
The original Zombie Synchro Monsters require "Plaguespreader Zombie" as their dedicated Tuner monster. These Synchro Monsters are undead counterparts of other monsters, and they share the same Level, ATK, DEF (with the exception of "Revived King Ha Des") and Attribute as their original counterparts.

Other Synchro Zombies[edit]
Instead of "Plaguespreader Zombie", these Synchro Monsters only require a generic Tuner monster or a Zombie Tuner monster. These undead counterparts share the same Level, ATK, DEF and Attribute as their original monsters (with the exception of "Immortal Dragon", whose ATK and DEF are switched and attribute changed).
So far, all of them are undead counterparts of Dragon monsters.

Playing style[edit]
Since many Zombie counterpart monsters rely on the opponent having Zombie monsters on their field or in their GY, they lend themselves to a play style based around the Field Spell Card "Zombie World". A Zombie World Deck focuses on activating this Field Spell as quickly as possible, usually by the effect of "Necroworld Banshee", to enable cards that disrupt the opponent's monsters after they have become Zombies. "Doomking Balerdroch" is especially useful for this strategy, as it can negate the opponent's monster effects while "Zombie World" is on the field or banish a monster when any Zombie activates its effect. Also, the opponents' monsters being Zombie also makes them potentially vulnerable to "Super Polymerization", as "Dragonecro Nethersoul Dragon" can use any 2 Zombie monsters as its Fusion Materials.
The Deck is proficient in Summoning multiple Synchro and Link Monsters with its swarming abilities. The two main Tuner monsters used are "Uni-Zombie", which can send other Zombie monsters to the GY, and "Mad Mauler", which can Special Summon itself from the GY. Typically, the Deck aims to Special Summon "Changshi the Spiridao" from the Deck by the effect of "Glow-Up Bloom" and use its effect to send "Mad Mauler" to the GY, allowing the latter to Summon itself and Synchro Summon "Immortal Dragon" to send even more cards to the GY. Two of the strongest Zombie counterpart Synchro Monsters, "Red-Eyes Zombie Dragon Lord" and "Skeletal Dragon Felgrand", work especially well together, as the former can Special Summon the latter from the GY to banish an opponent's monster; as such, it can be useful to use "Felgrand" as Synchro Material for "Zombie Dragon Lord" to ensure it is in the GY to be Summoned again.
