"Curtains For Jonouchi?!" is the twelfth chapter of the Yu-Gi-Oh! R manga. It was first printed in Japan on March 20, 2005 in the V Jump magazine. It was later reprinted in volume 2 of Yu-Gi-Oh! R.
Jonouchi's progress to the upper floors is again blocked, this time by Mendo Cino.
Featured Duel: Katsuya Jonouchi vs. Mendo Cino[edit]
Turn 1: Mendo
Mendo Sets a card and Normal Summons "Praying Mantis" (1500/1200) in Attack Position.
Turn 2: Jonouchi
Jonouchi Sets a card and Normal Summons "The Legendary Fisherman" (1850/1600 ) in Attack Position. It attacks "Praying Mantis", but Mendo activates his face-down "Forced Withdrawal", returning "Fisherman" to Jonouchi's hand.
Turn 3: Mendo
"Praying Mantis" attacks directly (Jonouchi 4000 → 2500). Mendo activates "Labor Pain". Each time a player Normal Summons a monster, they must pay 1000 Life Points. He then activates the Field Spell Card, "Mantis Egg". It will Special Summon a "Baby Mantis Token" during each of Mendo's Standby Phases. Mendo Sets another "Forced Withdrawal".
Turn 4: Jonouchi
Jonouchi Normal Summons "The Legendary Fisherman" (1850/1600) in Defense Position, paying 1000 Life Points via "Labor Pain" (Jonouchi 2500 → 1500). He then Sets a card.
Turn 5: Mendo
"Mantis Egg" Special Summons a "Baby Mantis Token" (500/500). Mendo Tributes "Praying Mantis" and the "Baby Mantis Token" to Normal Summon "Dreadscythe Harvester" (2300/1600) in Attack Position, paying 1000 Life Points via "Labor Pain" (Mendo 4000 → 3000). "Dreadscythe Harvester" attacks "The Legendary Fisherman", but Jonouchi activates his face-down "Scapegoat", Special Summoning four "Sheeps" (0/0) in Defense Position. One of them becomes the new attack target and is destroyed.
Turn 6: Jonouchi
Jonouchi Sets a card.
Turn 7: Mendo
"Mantis Egg" Special Summons a "Baby Mantis Token" (500/500). "Baby Mantis Token" and "Dreadscythe Harvester" each attack and destroy a "Sheep Token".
Turn 8: Jonouchi
Jonouchi activates "Cross Shift", returning his last "Sheep Token" to his hand and Special Summoning "Swordsman of Landstar" (500/1200). He Tributes "Swordsman of Landstar" and "The Legendary Fisherman" to Normal Summon "Jinzo" (2400/1500) in Attack Position, paying 1000 Life Points via "Labor Pain" (Jonouchi 1500 → 500). The effect of "Jinzo" destroys Mendo's face-down "Forced Withdrawal".
Duel continues in the next chapter.
