Celtic Guardian (character)

Celtic Guardian is a character in the Yu-Gi-Oh! Capsule Monsters anime. It is based on the "Celtic Guardian" card. In-universe, it is related to the "Celtic Guardian" piece in the Capsule Monsters game.

Celtic Guardian was the first monster Yami Yugi acquired in the World of Capsule Monsters.

Biography[edit]

Yami Yugi took control of Yugi Muto's body when he was being attacked by Kamakiriman. As he jumped away from a hit, he inadvertently cracked open a capsule, causing Celtic Guardian to emerge. Celtic Guardian defended Yami from Kamakiriman and as they battled Yami drew similarities to the Capsule Monsters board game and recalled Yugi using the "Celtic Guardian" piece. Celtic Guardian defeated Kamakiriman by cutting it in two. He then knelt before Yami and pledged to protect him for the duration of the game. His body then dematerialized and went into a smaller capsule inside Yami's Capsule Shooter.[1]

While being attacked by Trent, Yami figured out how to summon Celtic Guardian via the Capsule Shooter. Celtic Guardian proceeded to protect Yami and evade attacks, before finally scoring a direct hit on Trent. However the hit proved ineffective, which puzzled Yugi, who believed the "Celtic Guardian" card had more ATK than "Trent", in Duel Monsters. The Yugis eventually figured that Trent was being strengthened by its wood element while being in the forest, like in the Capsule Monsters board game. Celtic Guardian and Yami Yugi where then surrounded by a group of Trents, who pinned them to the ground. Yugi spotted another capsule, which Yami was unable to reach, so the Yugis got Celtic Guardian to throw his sword, cutting the branch one of the Trents was using to hold Yami. Yami freed Hinotama Soul from the capsule, which he used to incinerate the Trents.[2]

Celtic Guardian took part in the battle Yami and his friends had with the Flower Wolf pack. He fought off a number of the wolves, but was eventually overpowered and pinned to the ground. Yami got Celtic Guardian to throw his sword into the air in a spinning motion, allowing it to be used to reflect an electric attack from Thunder Kid, temporarily blinding the wolves, giving the group a chance to escape.[3]

Yami called Celtic Guardian to battle La Jinn the Mystical Genie of the Lamp. Celtic Guardian was overpowered by La Jinn who fought using his bare fists and later began breathing fire. While Joey and Tristan's Baby Dragon and Thunder Kid were struggling with Neo Aqua Madoor in a similtaneous battle, Yami came up with a plan. Celtic Guardian launched a direct attack at La Jinn. Baby Dragon and Thunder Kid did likewise to Neo Aqua Madoor. As La Jinn and Neo counterattacked with fire and ice, Celtic Guardian, Baby Dragon and Thunder Kid pulled aside, leaving La Jinn and Neo's opposing elemental attacks hit each other.[3]

When Yami and his friends were attacked by a group of The Wandering Doomed and Wood Remains, Celtic Guardian was summoned and fought a number of them off.[4]
