Since release, Yu-Gi-Oh! Duel Links has had monthly updates adding new events, cards, and/or characters to the game.

2016

November

• Game releases with eleven unlockable Legendary Duelists: Yami Yugi, Seto Kaiba, Joey Wheeler, Mai Valentine, Téa Gardner, Weevil Underwood, Rex Raptor, Mako Tsunami, Bandit Keith, Ishizu Ishtar, and Odion.
  • "Dark Magician", "Dark Magician Girl", "Black Luster Soldier", "Blue-Eyes White Dragon", "Vampire Lord", "Red-Eyes Black Dragon", "The Legendary Fisherman", "Harpie Lady Sisters", "Insect Queen", "Barrel Dragon", and "Embodiment of Apophis" receive Summoning animations.

December

• Maximillion Pegasus becomes unlockable in Duel World (DM).
  • Summoning animation for "Relinquished" is added, used by Maximillion Pegasus.

2017

January

• Summoning animation for "Gandora the Dragon of Destruction" is added, used by Yugi Muto.

March

• Yami Bakura becomes unlockable in Duel World (DM).
  • Summoning animation for "Dark Necrofear" is added, used by Yami Bakura.

• Paradox Brothers becomes unlockable in Duel World (DM).
  • Summoning animation for "Gate Guardian" is added, used by the Paradox Brothers.

• Duel World (DM) level cap is increased from 35 to 40.

• Duel World (GX) releases with the five unlockable characters: Jaden Yuki, Aster Phoenix, Chazz Princeton, Alexis Rhodes and Bastion Misawa.
  • "Elemental HERO Neos", "Elemental HERO Flame Wingman", "Destiny HERO - Plasma", "Ojama King", "Armed Dragon LV7", "Cyber Blader", and "Water Dragon" receive Summoning animations.

• Mokuba Kaiba becomes unlockable in Duel World (DM).

• Duel World (DSOD) releases with three unlockable characters: Seto Kaiba (DSOD), Mokuba Kaiba (DSOD) and Scud.

  • Indirectly matching Master Rule 5, the player is only allowed to Pendulum Summon 1 monster from their Extra Deck at a time (along with any number of monsters from the hand).
  • "Odd-Eyes Pendulum Dragon", "Bloom Diva the Melodious Choir", "Superheavy Samurai Big Benkei", and "Abyss Actor - Superstar" receive Summoning animations.
  • A custom animation for Synchro Summoning in Duel World (ARC-V) is added.

  • Summoning animation for "Malefic Truth Dragon" is added, used by Paradox.
  • A custom Synchro Summoning animation for "Malefic Paradox Dragon" is added.

• Extra Monster Zones are added to the field.
  • The restriction for Pendulum Summoning monsters from the Extra Deck is changed from "you can only Pendulum Summon 1 of them at a time, to any of your Monster Zones" to "you can only Pendulum Summon them to the Extra Monster Zone and to Main Monster Zones pointed by a Link Monster", consistently with New Master Rule and Master Rule 2020.

• Duel World (VRAINS) releases with three unlockable characters: Playmaker and Ai, Soulburner, and The Gore.
  • "Decode Talker", "Salamangreat Heatlio", and "Gouki The Great Ogre" receive Summoning animations. Notably, that of "Heatleo" only plays when Link Summoned using another copy of itself as material.
  • Custom animations for Ritual, Fusion, Synchro, and Xyz Summoning in Duel World (VRAINS), as well as for Reincarnation Link Summoning, are added.

• Blue Angel becomes unlockable in Duel World (VRAINS).
  • Summoning animation for "Trickstar Holly Angel" is added, used by Blue Angel.
