Episode Summary

At Domino High School, Yugi Muto is teaching his friend, Joey Wheeler, how to play Duel Monsters. Joey plays Kagemusha of the Blue Flame (ATK 800/DEF 400). Téa explains the rules to Tristan. But Yugi easily beats him with Blackland Fire Dragon (1500/800). Joey loses. Yugi explains that Joey is good at the game but he just has better cards. He decides to take them to his grandfather's game shop to show his friends a rare card. Seto Kaiba, the current Duel Monsters champ and head of a multi-million dollar corporation, KaibaCorp, overhears the conversation thinking it’s the card he’s looking for.

At the game shop, Solomon Moto shows Yugi his rare card, the Blue-Eyes White Dragon (3000/2500). The card is priceless because there are only four in existence. Kaiba enters, and is willing to trade all of his best cards in order to get it. But Solomon is not willing to trade. Kaiba attempts to buy the card, but to no avail. Grandpa does not want to give it away because it was given to him by a dear friend so he treasures the card. Kaiba leaves, realising it is useless to try and get it peacefully.

Kaiba orders his employees to abduct Grandpa. Yugi and his friends arrive to find his grandfather missing. Kaiba calls Yugi, saying that his Grandfather has gotten sick and needs picking up. Yugi makes his way to KaibaCorp and finds his Grandfather seriously injured. Kaiba beat him in a duel and took his Blue-Eyes White Dragon. He stole his Blue-Eyes and ripped it up, because he didn't want anyone to use it against him (since a duelist can only have up to three copies of the same card in a deck, Seto Kaiba physically could not use the fourth). Grandpa gives Yugi his deck so he can teach Kaiba to respect the "Heart of the Cards". Yugi’s friends decide to take Grandpa to the hospital. Téa marks everyone’s hands with a special sign so he knows they will always be there with him. Joey stays to support Yugi.

Yugi and Kaiba duel in a holographic duel arena and start with 2000 Life Points. Yugi taps into the power of the Millenium Puzzle and becomes Yami Yugi. Kaiba starts the duel. Kaiba summons the Hitotsu-Me Giant in Attack Mode (1200/1000). The creature that comes out has a life-like hologram. Yugi summons the Winged Dragon, Guardian of the Fortress #1 (1400/1200) and destroys Kaiba’s giant. The standings: Yugi 2000 LP, Kaiba 1800 LP.

Kaiba counters by summoning Saggi the Dark Clown (600/1500). This move supprises Yugi because it’s a very weak monster. But Kaiba plays a magic card, Negative Energy Generator multiplying Saggi’s attack by three. Saggi destroyes the Winged Dragon, decreasing Yugi’s Life Points (Yugi 1600, Kaiba 1800).

Yugi draws a leg. A useless card at the moment so he summons a monster in Defense Mode. Yugi continues to do this for turns and turns. But Kaiba destroys all of his monsters. Kaiba starts to make fun of his deck but Yugi retaliates by summoning Gaia the Fierce Knight (2300/2100), thanks to the "heart of the cards", and destroys Saggi the Dark Clown (Yugi 1600, Kaiba 1300).

Kaiba then summons the Blue-Eyes White Dragon (3000/2500). Althought Kaiba ripped up Solomon's he has three in his deck. It destroys Gaia, easily depleting Yugi’s life points. (Yugi 900, Kaiba 1300). Kaiba destroys many of Yugi' s monsters such as Beaver Warrior (1200/1500) and Horned Imp (1300/1000), which Yugi summons in Defense Mode.

Kaiba summons a second Blue-Eyes White Dragon. Yugi senses his Grandpa struggling. He plays the Swords of Reavealing Light. None of Kaiba’s monsters can attack for three turns. Yugi uses this as a desperate delay. He only has Rude Kaiser (1800/1600) and three body parts. Two legs and one arm. He decide to give up but Grandpa appears before him and tells him that dueling is like a puzzle. Yugi then remembers that his Grandfather told him about Exodia, an unstoppable monster that can only be summoned with five cards. No one has ever done it. Yugi draws another arm. Kaiba summons Judge Man. (2200/1800). Because it was summoned outside the Swords it can attack (the real card cannot do this) and it destroys his Rude Kaiser. Yugi summons his best card, The Dark Magician (2500/2100). This almost gives Yugi a lead (Yugi 900, Kaiba 1000)

Kaiba summons a third Blue-Eyes White Dragon destroying his Dark Magician. (Yugi 400, Kaiba 1000) In the next turn Kaiba will attack with all three Blue-Eyes White Dragons and he will win. Yugi loses his Swords of Reavealing Light. His only chance is to summon Exodia but his deck senses his doubt but he realizes that all of his friends are right there with him. Yugi draws and summons Exodia the Forbidden One (when all five pieces of Exodia are in the owner's hand, the player automatically wins). Yugi using his Millennium Puzzle to send Kaiba’s evil side to the Shadow Realm and Grandpa wakes up in a hospital bed. Maiximillion Pegasus, the creator of Duel Monsters, is informed of Yugi’s victory.
