Jaden was playing baseball in gym class, Slifer's against the Ra's. Jaden had it in for Ra's Bastion Misawa. Jaden tried beating him by pitching a fast ball, but Bastion hit the ball and hit a passing Dr. Crowler in the eye. When Crowler saw Jaden, he got mad, thinking Jaden did it, but Bastion admitted to doing it. Crowler let it slide and had an idea.
In class, Chazz was ready to sit in his seat, when he realized his seat was moved with the Slifer's. Chazz tried to argue with Crowler, but Crowler said that Chazz is no longer considered an Obelisk because he hasn't won a duel since he lost to Jaden. Crowler said that if Chazz duels Bastion Misawa and wins, he stays in Obelisk but gets demoted to Ra if he loses.
Meanwhile, Jaden, Syrus and Bastion were walking to the Ra dorm. Bastion explained that he believes life is full of statistics and equations. Bastion uses these equations to his advantage, especially when he duels. When the boys saw his room, it was covered, wall to wall, with formulas that Bastion made for dueling. He had memorized them and wanted to paint his room so he had more room for other equations. Jaden and Syrus helped, then afterwards, got to eat gourmet food in the Ra kitchen.
That night, Chazz was in his room. He was talking to his older brothers, Slade and Jagger. The brothers said that Chazz must move ahead in the dueling world if the Princeton family wants to be famous. Chazz saw Bastion leave his room with Jaden and Syrus and got an idea. Bastion crashed in the Slifer dorm for the morning because of the paint, but then awoke with the news by Ms. Dorothy that his deck was thrown into the sea by the lighthouse. Jaden didn't know how Bastion was going to take his promotions test without his deck.
They ran to the duel arena to see Crowler and Chazz. When Jaden realized that Chazz was his opponent, he accused him of messing with Bastion's deck. Chazz denied it, but Alexis and Zane showed up and Alexis admitted to seeing Chazz do it that morning. Bastion agreed to duel because he had six other decks, each one more powerful then the last.
Bastion proved that Chazz stole because one of the cards he threw away had a formula on them. Chazz could have wrote it but then the math would be wrong. (In the original version, the cards were actually Chazz's, and Bastion explained that while his own cards had writing on them, the cards Chazz threw in the sea didn't. He then chastized Chazz for mistreating his cards.) Crowler welcomed Bastion to Obelisk Blue, but Bastion declined. He felt the only way to be worthy enough for Obelisk was to beat Jaden. Someday, he plans to duel Jaden and prove his worthiness as a duelist.
