"Bujin" (武神 Bujin, meaning Martial God) is an archetype of Level/Rank 4 LIGHT Beast, Beast-Warrior, and Winged Beast monsters that debuted in Judgment of the Light.
"Bujin" (武神 Bujin, meaning Martial God) is an archetype of Level and Rank 4 LIGHT Beast, Winged Beast, and Beast-Warrior-Type monsters that debuted in Judgment of the Light. They are (with the exception of "Bujingi Warg" and "Bujingi Pavo") based on Japanese folklore.

Gagaga Academy Tospedia card storylines#"Bujin" Edition
The archetype has four main monsters (which are all Beast-Warrior-Type), each with four "Bujingi" Beast and Winged Beast-Type monsters "under their domain", whose effects activate in the hand or Graveyard (except "Bujingi Warg" and "Bujingi Wolf"), mostly to protect their respective Beast-Warrior "leaders" or to pave the way for their offensive moves; their glow and color scheme reinforce their relationship. Also, "Bujintei" and "Bujinki" (the "Bujin" Xyz Monsters) are transformed versions of the four main Beast-Warrior-Type "Bujin" monsters, wearing their "Bujingi" protectors as armor; three of the Beast-Warriors have an associated "Bujin Regalia" Spell or Trap Card that depicts their transformation into their respective "Bujintei", or whose artworks are somehow related with their effects, or with how their "Bujingi" act alongside with them. This archetype received its first Pendulum Monster in Dimension of Chaos.
+
Design
+
The archetype's monsters can be broadly divided into three sub-series: the Main Deck, non-suffixed "Bujin" monsters, the Main Deck "Bujingi" monsters, and the Extra Deck "Bujintei" and "Bujinki" monsters.

The non-suffixed "Bujin" (武神) monsters are Main Deck Beast-Warrior monsters with humanoid forms. Each of their visual design is based on a character from Yu-Gi-Oh! media, most commonly from the Yu-Gi-Oh! GX anime.

Bujingi
 +
The "Bujingi" (武神器, "Martial God Treasure") monsters are Main Deck Beast and Winged Beast monsters, with animal forms. They are based on legendary Japanese artifacts, with three common sources of design:
 +
* Six "Bujingi" monsters are based on the three Imperial Regalia of Japan
 +
* Nine "Bujingi" monsters are based on the nine of the ten treasures known as the Tokusa no Kandakara ("10 varieties of the god's treasure") enshrined at Isonokami Shrine.
 +
* Two "Bujingi" monsters are based on the Totsuka-no-Tsurugi, another artifact said to be kept at Isonokami shrine
 +
The three main "Bujingi" monsters based on the Imperial Regalia of Japan each have a corresponding "Bujin Regalia" Spell/Trap, depicting them transforming from their animal forms into weapon forms.
 +
The colors of each "Bujingi" monster corresponds to the colors of their associated "Bujin" monster (i.e. light red for "Susanowo", light blue for "Kagutsuchi", bright yellow for "Tsukuyomi", and dark purple for "Amaterasu").

Additionally, each of "Bujinki Amaterasu's" "Bujingi" components is a corrupted counterpart to the "Bujingi" monsters featured in the art of the "Bujin Regalia" series, plus "Bujingi Wolf". The former is likely a reference to the mythical connection between the goddess Amaterasu and the real-world Imperial Regalia.

Bujintei/Bujinki
 +
The "Bujintei" (武神帝, "Martial God Emperor") and "Bujinki" (武神姫, "Martial God Princess") monsters are Extra Deck Beast-Warrior Xyz or Link Monsters, with humanoid forms. They are each named after a child, descendent, or creation of the Shinto creator gods Izanami and Izanagi.
 +
Excluding "Bujinki Ahashima", each "Bujintei" and "Bujinki" monster is a transformed counterpart of one of the four original non-suffixed Main Deck "Bujin" monsters, wearing their "Bujingi" protectors as armor.

The archetype is centered around protecting your non-Xyz "Bujin" Beast-Warriors with the effects of "Bujingi" monsters and using its own effect to maintain advantage. For example "Bujingi Turtle" and "Bujingi Crane" protect them from card effects that target and monsters with higher ATK, respectively, while "Bujingi Quilin" destroys any other face-up threats, paving the way for the Xyz Summon of their main offensive threats, "Bujintei Susanowo" and "Bujintei Kagutsuchi".

The deck is very versatile and can deal with almost anything, but it primarily relies on protecting the Beast-Warrior "Bujin" monsters, by discarding and banishing the "Bujingi" monsters, so cards like "Debunk", "Mind Drain" and "Soul Drain" can work well against this Deck. "Abyss Dweller" can temporarily stop the Graveyard ones and "Imperial Iron Wall" will prevent any of their banishing effects from activating; "Light-Imprisoning Mirror" can also stop the "Bujins" from activating in the Graveyard as well as the ones who are face-up on the Field. If you can get "Macro Cosmos", "Banisher of Light", or "Banisher of the Radiance" out early against your opponent, and keep it out, that can easily cripple their strategy. Additionally, the effects of most "Bujin" monsters (such as "Crane" or "Hare") only work with Beast-Warrior monsters. Therefore, cards that change monster Types such as "DNA Surgery" or "Zombie World" (which also turns monsters in the Graveyard into Zombies) will shut down those effects.

"Bujin" (じん Bujin, meaning Martial God) is an archetype of Level/Rank 4 LIGHT Beast, Beast-Warrior, and Winged Beast monsters that debuted in Judgment of the Light.

Lore[edit]

Design[edit]

The archetype's monsters can be broadly divided into three sub-series: the Main Deck, non-suffixed "Bujin" monsters, the Main Deck "Bujingi" monsters, and the Extra Deck "Bujintei" and "Bujinki" monsters.

Bujin[edit]

The non-suffixed "Bujin" (じん) monsters are Main Deck Beast-Warrior monsters with humanoid forms. Each of their visual design is based on a character from Yu-Gi-Oh! media, most commonly from the Yu-Gi-Oh! GX anime.

Bujingi[edit]

The "Bujingi" (じん, "Martial God Treasure") monsters are Main Deck Beast and Winged Beast monsters, with animal forms. They are based on legendary Japanese artifacts, with three common sources of design:

 • Six "Bujingi" monsters are based on the three Imperial Regalia of Japan
 • Nine "Bujingi" monsters are based on the nine of the ten treasures known as the Tokusa no Kandakara ("10 varieties of the god's treasure") enshrined at Isonokami Shrine.
 • Two "Bujingi" monsters are based on the Totsuka-no-Tsurugi, another artifact said to be kept at Isonokami shrine

The three main "Bujingi" monsters based on the Imperial Regalia of Japan each have a corresponding "Bujin Regalia" Spell/Trap, depicting them transforming from their animal forms into weapon forms.

Bujintei/Bujinki[edit]

The "Bujintei" (じんてい, "Martial God Emperor") and "Bujinki" (じん, "Martial God Princess") monsters are Extra Deck Beast-Warrior Xyz or Link Monsters, with humanoid forms. They are each named after a child, descendent, or creation of the Shinto creator gods Izanami and Izanagi. Excluding "Bujinki Ahashima", each "Bujintei" and "Bujinki" monster is a transformed counterpart of one of the four original non-suffixed Main Deck "Bujin" monsters, wearing their "Bujingi" protectors as armor.

Bujinki/Bujintei Origin Visual Design Origin
Ahashima Awashima (Sarina)[a]
Amaterasu Amaterasu Hirume
Tsukuyomi Tsukuyomi Arasuda
Kagutsuchi Kagu-tsuchi Mikazuchi
Susanowo Susanoo Yamato
 1. The design of "Ahashima" is more similar to the design of the Main Deck, non-suffixed "Bujin" monsters, rather than that of the other transformed and armed "Bujintei" and "Bujinki" monsters; like the former, the visual design of "Ahashima" is based on a character from Yu-Gi-Oh! media.

Playing style[edit]

The archetype is centered around protecting your non-Xyz "Bujin" Beast-Warriors with the effects of "Bujingi" monsters and using its own effect to maintain advantage. For example "Bujingi Turtle" and "Bujingi Crane" protect them from card effects that target and monsters with higher ATK, respectively, while "Bujingi Quilin" destroys any other face-up threats, paving the way for the Xyz Summon of their main offensive threats, "Bujintei Susanowo" and "Bujintei Kagutsuchi". "Bujin Hiruko" can just be played for its "Rank Up" effect to summon "Bujinki Amaterasu" from any Bujintei in an easier manner.

Weaknesses[edit]
