"Supreme King" (おう Haō) is a series (archetype in the anime) of DARK monsters used by Z-ARC in Yu-Gi-Oh! ARC-V. The series contains two archetypes (sub-archetypes in the anime): "Supreme King Dragon" and "Supreme King Gate". In the TCG and the dubbed version of the anime, the "Supreme King" Spell/Trap Cards are simply called "Supreme" cards.

Playing style

General

The Supreme King Deck's primary playing style is to quickly set up the methods of Summoning the series' boss monster, "Supreme King Z-ARC", and being able to use its associated support cards. The Supreme King series primarily comprises of two related archetypes with the same goal of supporting "Supreme King Z-ARC": "Supreme King Gate" and "Supreme King Dragon". Using "Supreme King Dragon Darkwurm", the player can search a "Supreme King Gate" card, which serves as the series's main sources of a Pendulum Scale. Since both "Supreme King Gate Zero" and "Supreme King Gate Infinity" have Pendulum Scales of 0 and 13 respectively, they can potentially allow for monsters of any Level to be Pendulum Summoned, although "Infinity" carries a restriction of controlling no monsters in order to Pendulum Summon. Finally, "Supreme King Dragon Lightwurm" is a unique Tuner monster that can be Summoned from the Pendulum Zone in response to an opponent Summoning a monster. Upon being Summoned, it can recur a "Supreme King Gate" card and then immediately Synchro or Xyz Summon a "Supreme King Dragon" a monster and if Summoned by its Pendulum Effect, it can change its Level and Attribute as a bonus to be that of another monster's (or vice-versa), allowing it to adapt to the material requirements of the monster intended to be Summoned.

"Supreme King Z-ARC" boasts powerful stats and various powerful effects, having a board wipe upon its Summon, Special Summon more "Supreme King Dragon" monsters from the Deck or Extra Deck while passively gaining protection against the opponent's destruction or targeting effects. However, it has very difficult requirements to Summon it. "Z-ARC" also has a LIGHT counterpart, "Supreme Celestial King Odd-Eyes Arc-Ray Dragon" (who is always treated as "Supreme King Z-ARC") though it is more of a combo support piece rather than an overwhelming boss monster that the original "Z-ARC" serves.

To further aid the deck's efforts of Summoning "Z-ARC", the series carries a secondary focus on interacting with the archetypes related to the Four Dimensional Dragons: "Fusion Dragon", "Synchro Dragon", "Xyz Dragon" and "Pendulum Dragon". "Astrograph Sorcerer" or "Chronograph Sorcerer" can banish share the effects of being able to one monster from each of those archetypes to Special Summon "Z-ARC". "Supreme King Gate Magician" can also grab either "Zero" or "Infinity" onto the scale or Special Summon itself by sending one member of the Four Dimensional Dragons' archetypes from the hand or Extra Deck if there already is one. Upon its Special Summon, it can search a card that supports "Supreme King Z-ARC". Besides the "Supreme King Gate" cards, noteworthy cards include:

  • "Soul of the Supreme King", a Normal Trap which can cheat out "Z-ARC" from the Extra Deck, then potentially exchange it with monsters of the Four Dimensional Dragons' archetypes.
  • "The Light-Winged Dragon", a Quick-Play Spell which can search out any "Supreme King Dragon" or "Supreme King Gate" monster with the added bonus of Special Summoning it if "Z-ARC" is on the field. This enables triggering the search effects of "Supreme King Dragon Darkwurm" or "Supreme King Gate Magician" during the opponent's turn or allows "Supreme King Dragon Lightwurm" to enter the fray.
  • "Soul of the Supreme Celestial King", a Normal Trap which can easily Fusion Summon "Z-ARC" by banishing its materials from everywhere else, allow its on-Summon effect to wipe out the opponent's entire field during their turn.
  • "Pendulum Evolution", a Continuous Spell with various effects including exchanging a Pendulum Monster in hand with another Pendulum Monster with 2500 ATK from the Deck (which includes "Astrograph Sorcerer" and "Supreme King Gate Magician"), an extra Pendulum Summon or allowing "Z-ARC" to attack multiple monsters.
  • "Miracle of the Supreme King", which have various effects that range from destroying "Z-ARC" in order to cheat out an "Odd-Eyes" Pendulum Monster or a LIGHT "Z-ARC" from the Main or Extra Deck, place a card from the face-up Extra Deck to the Pendulum Zone, or setting any Quick-Play Spell. The former two effects essentially enable "Z-ARC" to be placed on the Pendulum Zone to make its Pendulum Effects live.

Since the series cannot do enough on its own given its few members, it is thus better mixed with other Pendulum cards to maximize the benefits. The Supreme King series pairs extremely well with the "Magician" archetype, especially the Z-ARC Magicians, consisting of "Double Iris Magician", "Black Fang Magician", "White Wing Magician" and "Purple Poison Magician" in addition to "Supreme King Gate Magician" which provide a handful of benefits. For starters, most of them are DARK monsters, so they cannot conflict with the Pendulum Effect of "Darkwurm". Secondly, their Pendulum Scales have values of 1 and 8, which mix well with the Supreme King cards, since "Darkwurm" is a Level 4 and all "Supreme King Gate" cards are Level 7. Thirdly, as these "Magician" monsters are also members of the Four Dimensional Dragons' archetypes, they can be used along with "Astrograph Sorcerer" or "Chronograph Sorcerer" to Special Summon "Supreme King Z-ARC". Additionally, the effect of "Darkwurm" to Special Summon itself from the Graveyard makes it a useful discard fodder for cards such as "Pendulum Call", as the player can instantly gather the means for a Pendulum Summon for no cost and their Pendulum Scales will go uninterrupted.

As a result of this mixture, the Supreme King series is capable of more moves, involving greater flexibility in both Pendulum Summon and other Summons from the Extra Deck, being able to perform Fusion, Synchro, Xyz Summons and Link Summons.

For Fusion Monsters besides "Supreme King Z-ARC", both "Zero" and "Infinity" can provide some help since "Zero" can destroy itself along with "Infinity" to search for any "Fusion" card that can help perform a Fusion Summon, some useful choices including "Miracle Synchro Fusion", "Odd-Eyes Fusion", and "Pendulum Fusion". Given the Deck's mostly DARK nature, they can also Fusion Summon "Supreme King Dragon Starving Venom", "Starving Venom Fusion Dragon", "Starving Venemy Dragon", "Starving Venemy Lethal Dose Dragon" and most other "Predaplant" Fusion Monsters (alongside with "Greedy Venom Fusion Dragon") if "Predaplant" monsters are used.

For Synchro Monsters, "White Wing Magician", being a Level 4, can open possibilities for either Level 7, 8, or even Level 11 Synchro Monsters when paired with either a Level 3, 4, or 7 monster. Since, unlike other Tuner Pendulum Monsters, she has no restriction on what she can Summon or the materials being used alongside her (although using her after being Pendulum Summoned will force the player to banish her), she is an ideal Tuner monster for generic Synchro Monsters such as "Borreload Savage Dragon", "PSY-Framelord Omega", or "Enlightenment Paladin". Netherless, the Supreme King series' own "Supreme King Dragon Clear Wing" is still potent in its own right, being able to be brought out with any of the Deck's numerous DARK Pendulum Monsters. If needed, other monsters can be used too, such as "Ghost Ogre & Snow Rabbit", "Timebreaker Magician", or "Noble Dragon Magician". They can open up room for Level 7 Synchro Monsters such as "Clear Wing Synchro Dragon", "Moonlight Rose Dragon", or "Odd-Eyes Meteorburst Dragon". Some of these cards can combo well with "Miracle Synchro Fusion" as well.

For Xyz Monsters, the archetype can gain easier access to either Rank 4 or Rank 7 monsters, ranging from utilitarian ones such as "Supreme King Dragon Dark Rebellion", "Dark Rebellion Xyz Dragon", or "Timestar Magician" to the likes of "Number 11: Big Eye" or "Odd-Eyes Absolute Dragon". "Darkwurm" is an interesting card to use as a material for Xyz Summons, due to its self-revival effect from the Graveyard after being detached which potentially mitigates some of the otherwise common and taxing cost of Pendulum-Xyz tactics. After detaching the Z-ARC Magicians, they can then be banished for "Z-ARC".

For Pendulum Monsters, other additional and more mainstreamed cards such as "Odd-Eyes Pendulum Dragon" or "Archfiend Eccentrick" can be useful as well. The former can search either of the "Supreme King Gate" monsters and many of the aforementioned "Magicians", while "Eccentrick" is an effective removal card. In other words, the Supreme King series is fairly flexible since they can be mixed with multiple cards and provide a handful of utilitarian uses.

After swarming the field with weaker monsters, the player can bring out "Supreme King Dragon" Extra Deck monsters and use them to press the opponent. After the opponent gets rid of them and the player managed to get "Z-ARC" on the field, they can use "Supreme Rage" to devastate, or even finish the opponent.

As per the Master Rule 4, the Deck loses much of its Pendulum Summon power. With "Link Monsters" now being required to allow Pendulum decks to Special Summon more than one monster from their face-up Extra Deck, some monsters of Supreme King series and "Magician" archetypes have means of freely Special Summoning monsters to be used as Link Materials to Link Summon a Link Monster before conducting a Pendulum Summon, namely "Supreme King Dragon Darkwurm" and "Supreme King Gate Magician" while "Astrograph" and "Chronograph" have Pendlum Effects to Special Summon one specific monster, or have monster effects in the hand to Special Summon themselves (and another monster on hand in the case of "Chronograph") whenever a card is destroyed. These can be used to Link Summon very useful choices that further helps with any Pendulum strategy including "Beyond the Pendulum" and "Heavymetalfoes Electrumite".

Weaknesses

  • Since Supreme King is a Pendulum series, they are vulnerable to cards such as "Anti-Spell Fragrance" which can shut them down in the spot.
  • Their small membership demands that the player mixes them with something else to make the most of it, and thus more than likely adopt that Deck's weaknesses as well.
  • "Supreme King Gate Infinity" can be more trouble than an aid due to its no monster condition to perform a Pendulum Summon with.
  • The player should also prioritize which Summoning mechanic to boost while mixing and be selective of the cards to use for that purpose, as using too many cards can lead to unfortunate draws.

Official Decks

By combining "Maximum Crisis" with "Structure Deck: Pendulum Evolution", you'll have a Deck centered around Fusion Summoning "Supreme King Z-ARC". So challenge people with your Pendulum Deck! [1]

A Deck that fights using the 5 different "Supreme King Dragons". By banishing the "Supreme King Dragons" with the effect of cards like "Hyper Synchron" or "Dragon's Mirror", and then using the effect of "Doomsday Horror" to return them to the Graveyard, you'll be able to fulfill the conditions for activating "Supreme Rage". [2]

A Deck Recipe based on Summoning "Supreme King Z-ARC" in a single turn.

By using the effect of "Predaplant Ophrys Scorpio" that can be used when it's Normal or Special Summoned, you can send "Destrudo, the Lost Dragon's Frisson" from your hand to the Graveyard to Special Summon "Predaplant Darlingtonia Cobra" from the Deck, and with the effect of "Predaplant Darlingtonia Cobra", you can add "Miracle Synchro Fusion" from the Deck to the hand.

Then you activate "Odd-Eyes Phantom Dragon" (or "Odd-Eyes Pendulum Dragon") in your Pendulum Zone.

Next you Special Summon "Destrudo, the Lost Dragon's Frisson" by lowering its Level by the Level of a "Predaplant" on the field, then use it and that "Predaplant" monster as materials to Synchro Summon "Odd-Eyes Meteorburst Dragon", who you then use its 1st effect to Special Summon "Odd-Eyes Phantom Dragon" (or "Odd-Eyes Pendulum Dragon") from your Pendulum Zone, then use those two to Xyz Summon "Odd-Eyes Absolute Dragon".

From there, use that "Odd-Eyes Absolute Dragon" and the other "Predaplant" monster to Link Summon "Code Talker" to the Extra Monster Zone, which means you can use the 2nd effect of "Odd-Eyes Absolute Dragon" (that activates when it's sent to the Graveyard) to Special Summon "Odd-Eyes Vortex Dragon" from the Extra Deck to the Main Monster Zone that "Code Talker" points to.

And finally, you activate "Miracle Synchro Fusion" to Fusion Summon "Supreme King Z-ARC". [3]

Let's summon the trump card "Supreme King Z-ARC" with the effect of "Astrograph Sorcerer"! First of all it is necessary to prepare the would-be Material monsters, so let's gather the Dragons of each summoning method and the "Magician" monsters treated as them in your hand, field, and/or Graveyard! Use the "Supreme King Gate" monsters as well to gather the monsters necessary for Summoning "Supreme King Z-ARC".

"Duelist Alliance" can add the necessary cards to your hand according to the situation. Since "Iris Magician" is also a "Pendulum Dragon" card, so you can choose it! [4]
