Yu-Gi-Oh! episodes (season 3)
Previous"Isolated In Cyber Space, Part 3"
Next"Freeze Play, Part 2"

Major events

  • Crump sends his penguin allies to rescue Téa from the hazards of the previous episode, introducing himself soon after.
  • Crump forces Téa into a Duel, and if she loses, he can escape the virtual world using her body.
  • Not knowing much about the game, Téa builds a Deck with an assortment of Spellcasters and has to make up her strategy as she goes along.
  • When a player loses Life Points, ice forms around that player from the feet up.
    • As a penguin, Crump is immune to cold, so even though both players are subject to the freezing rule, Téa is the only one suffering as it happens.

Deck Masters

Featured Duel: Téa Gardner vs. Crump, Part 1

Turn 1: Téa
Téa draws "Mirror Force" and subsequently Sets it. She then Normal Summons "Ancient Elf" (1450/1200) in Attack Position.

Turn 2: Crump
Crump draws "Giant Red Seasnake" and subsequently Normal Summons it (1800/800) in Attack Position. Since "Giant Red Seasnake" is a WATER monster, it gains 200 ATK due to Crump's Deck Master Ability ("Giant Red Seasnake": 1800 → 2000/800). He then activates "Cold Wave", preventing both players from activating any Magic or Trap Cards until Crump's next turn. "Giant Red Seasnake" attacks and destroys "Ancient Elf" (Téa 4000 → 3450). As Téa's Life Points decrease, ice begins to build up on her.

Turn 3: Téa
Téa draws a monster and subsequently sets it.

Turn 4: Crump
Crump draws "Gust". He then Sets 2 cards.

Turn 5: Téa
Téa draws Quick-Play Magic Card "Mystical Space Typhoon" and subsequently activates it, destroying Crump's Set "Mirror Wall". Because Téa destroyed and sent 1 of his Trap Cards to his Graveyard, Crump activates his Trap Card "Driving Snow", destroying Téa's Set Trap Card "Mirror Force". Téa's hand contains "Skelengel", "Offerings to the Doomed", "Pot of Greed", and "Petit Angel". She then activates "Offerings to the Doomed", destroying "Giant Red Seasnake" but forbidding herself from conducting her Draw Phase next turn. She then Flip Summons "Fire Sorcerer" (1000/1500). Since "Fire Sorcerer" was flipped, her effect activates, allowing Téa to remove 2 cards in her hand from play[Notes 1] to inflict 800 damage to Crump (Crump 4000 → 3200). "Fire Sorcerer" attacks Crump directly (Crump 3200 → 2200).

Turn 6: Crump
Crump draws. He then Normal Summons "Flying Penguin" (1200/1000) in Attack Position. Since "Flying Penguin" is a WATER monster, Crump's Deck Master Ability increases its ATK by 200 ("Flying Penguin": 1200 → 1400/1000). Next, he activates Equip Magic Card "Penguin Sword",equipping it to "Flying Penguin" and increasing its ATK by 800 ("Flying Penguin": 1400 → 2200/1000). "Flying Penguin" attacks and destroys "Fire Sorcerer" (Téa 3450 → 2250).

Duel concludes next episode.

Doorway Puzzle

Level 1 - Yugi summons "Winged Dragon, Guardian of the Fortress" (1400/1200) and attacks. The monster hidden in the the door is revealed to be "Sinister Serpent" (300/250), which is destroyed by the attack. Yugi wins.

Doorway Puzzle concludes next episode.

Differences In Adaptations

  • The writing on the show's sign is removed from the English version.
  • The pentagram on "Dark Magician Girl's" costume is replaced by a jewel in the English version.
  • Also, shots of "Dark Magician Girl" flying across the stage, and of Anzu sitting in the audience are cut from the English version.
  • "Dark Magician Girl" is given more clothing to wear in the dub.
  • As before, a shot of the Big 5's face is added to the English version.
  • When Téa selects her cards for her deck, "Sage's Stone" is changed to "Mirror Force" in the English version.
  • In the original, Crump chooses Téa for his opponent; in the dub Noah chooses Téa.
  • In the original, Crump gives Téa an audition for the "Dark Magician Girl" play; in the dub he goes over the facts about her daily life.
  • In the original, Crump says because of Téa's father's job, she moved around a lot; in the dub this is skipped.
  • "Giant Red Seasnake" biting "Ancient Elf" is obscured in the dub.

Errors

  • In the dub, when Téa's "Mirror Force" is destroyed by "Driving Snow," we see enough of her face-down Monster Card to confirm that it was "The Unhappy Maiden." (This is before we really find out that it's really "Fire Sorcerer." when Téa flips the card face-up.)
  • Before the Duel, Crump states while going over her "numbers" that Téa dueled five times in her life. That isn't true. Téa has actually Dueled at least six times: five times with Joey (four of which were off screen), and once with Mai back at Duelist Kingdom, totaling six.
