Yusei Fudo and Lenny's Duel

Yusei Fudo and Lenny's Duel is the second Duel of the Yu-Gi-Oh! 5D's anime, conducted between Yusei Fudo and Lenny.

Prior events

Lenny tripped up Tank at work in the plant earlier. As a result, Lenny, Lug and Larry received pay cuts. They later went to Yusei's hideout to confront Tank, Nervin and Blitz about this. Here they spotted Yusei's Duel Runner, Yusei Go and stated it was a waste for a Satellite resident to have a Duel Runner. They offered to leave quietly if the Duel Runner was handed over to them, but Yusei refused. (In the English version, Lenny tried to purchase the Duel Runner and threatened to tell Sector Security that Yusei had an illegal Duel Runner, when he refused to sell it.) Lenny recognized Yusei as the rider and challenged him to a Duel, where the winner kept the Duel Runner. Blitz told Yusei to ignore him, but Yusei said that Lenny, Lug, and Larry had mocked their dreams and accepted the Dues. (In the English version Yusei's friends were in favor of Yusei accepting the Duel as they regarded Lenny as a bully and Yusei thought he could teach him a lesson by standing up to him.)

The Duel

Turn 1: Lenny
Lenny Normal Summons "Chainsaw Insect" (2400/0). Lenny activates the Continuous Spell "Retribution of the Ant Lion".

Turn 2: Yusei
Yusei Normal Summons "Shield Warrior" (800/1600) in Defense Position. Yusei Sets a card.

Turn 3: Lenny
Lenny Normal Summons "Pinch Hopper" (1000/1200). Lenny activates the Spell "Insect Costume", sending an Insect-Type monster from his hand to the Graveyard to add an Insect-Type monster from his Deck to his hand, then destroy an Insect-Type monster on the field. He sends "Insect Knight", adds "Doom Dozer", and destroys "Pinch Hopper". As a monster was destroyed and sent to the Graveyard, the effect of "Retribution of the Ant Lion" activates, inflicting 800 damage to its controller (Lenny: 4000 → 3200 LP). As "Pinch Hopper" Lenny controls was sent to his Graveyard, he activates its effect, Special Summoning an Insect-Type monster from his hand. He Special Summons "Metal Armored Bug" (2800/1500). Lenny removes from play two Insect-Type monsters from his Graveyard to Special Summon "Doom Dozer" from his hand by its own effect. He removes "Pinch Hopper" and "Insect Knight" from play to Special Summon "Doom Dozer" (2800/2600). "Chainsaw Insect" attacks "Shield Warrior". As a monster Yusei controls was attacked, he activates his face-down Trap "Scrap-Iron Scarecrow", negating the attack, then Yusei can Set "Scrap-Iron Scarecrow" instead of sending it to the Graveyard. The attack of "Chainsaw Insect" is negated and "Scrap-Iron Scarecrow" is Set. "Metal Armored Bug" attacks and destroys "Shield Warrior". As a monster was destroyed and sent to the Graveyard, the effect of "Retribution of the Ant Lion" activates, inflicting 800 damage to its controller (Yusei: 4000 → 3200 LP). "Doom Dozer" attacks Yusei directly (Yusei: 3200 → 400 LP).

Turn 4: Yusei
Yusei Normal Summons "Speed Warrior" (900/400). Yusei activates the Spell "Double Summon", allowing him to conduct two Normal Summons/Sets this turn. Yusei Normal Summons "Junk Synchron" (1300/500). Yusei tunes the Level 3 Tuner "Junk Synchron" with the Level 2 "Speed Warrior" to Synchro Summon the Level 5 "Junk Warrior" (2300/1300). Yusei activates the Equip Spell "Fighting Spirit", equipping it to "Junk Warrior". The effect of "Fighting Spirit" increases the ATK of the equipped "Junk Warrior" by 300 for each monster Lenny controls. Lenny controls three monsters, so "Junk Warrior" gains 900 ATK ("Junk Warrior": 2300 → 3200 ATK). Yusei activates the Continuous Spell "Domino Effect". "Junk Warrior" attacks and destroys "Chainsaw Insect" (Lenny: 3200 → 2400 LP, "Junk Warrior": 3200 → 2900 ATK)[Notes 1]. As a monster Lenny controls is destroyed by battle and sent to the Graveyard, Yusei activates the effect of "Domino Effect", sending any number of cards he controls to the Graveyard to destroy an equal number of monsters Lenny controls. He sends "Fighting Spirit" and the face-down "Scrap-Iron Scarecrow" to destroy "Doom Dozer" and "Metal Armored Bug" ("Junk Warrior": 2900 → 2300 ATK)[Notes 2]. As a monster was destroyed and sent to the Graveyard, the effect of "Retribution of the Ant Lion" activates, inflicting 800 damage to its controller (Lenny: 2400 → 1600 → 800 → 0 LP).

Aftermath

Lenny fell to his knees and Yusei approached him. Yusei said that a friend, referring to Jack once told him, "You cannot win a Duel with just monsters; nor can you win with just Traps or Spell Cards; They hold a reason only when they become one. And the most important thing you must have to seize victory... is right here." Although Jack didn't say what that thing was, Yusei said he now knows it's the soul of a duelist that believes in every card. (In the English version, Yusei said that he had been told that when your back's against a wall and you feel like there's no way out, if you trust in the power of your Deck, you can find a way out of any situation) Yusei told Lenny that the belief that he had in the power of his cards gave him the strength to win. Lenny was impressed with Yusei and hoped to Duel him again someday.

Notes

  1. The written Japanese anime lore of "Chainsaw Insect" is the same as its OCG counterpart, so Yusei should have drawn a card as "Chainsaw Insect" battled.
  2. The written Japanese anime lore of "Domino Effect" is the same as that of its OCG counterpart, meaning only monsters should have been able to have been sent.
