"Machina", known as "Machiners" (マシンナーズ Mashinnāzu) in Japan or Korea and some video games and "Machine" in the English manga, are an archetype of EARTH Attribute Machine-Type cards which debuted in the OCG Premium Pack 9. They currently have a Structure Deck (Machina Mayhem). They are used by Kirk Dixon in the Yu-Gi-Oh! R manga, Blister in the Yu-Gi-Oh! 5D's anime and Bolt Tanner in the Yu-Gi-Oh! 5D's manga.
+
Playstyle
+
The archetype can be split into two type of monsters :
Jerome McHale explained in a post on Pojo that the reason this archetype name was localized to "Machina" from "Machiners" was that the former name "clearly demonstrates that these are Machine-Type monsters, not other types of monsters that do work on machines."
+
* Higher Level Machina that either have an effect to discard another Machina/Machine to the GY such as "Machina Air Raider", "Machina Irradiator", "Machina Cannon" and "Machina Fortress" or want to be discarded to the graveyard due to their graveyard effect such as "Machina Ruinforce", "Machina Megaform" and "Machina Citadel". These Machina effect varies between removal and negate effect of "Machina Fortress", "Machina Citadel" and "Machina Ruinforce" to replacing current Machina such as "Machina Air Raider" and "Machina Irradiator" and "Machina Megaform".

+
* Lower level Machina that help protect, mil, search and swarm the higher level Machina.
The archetype involves either getting the three "Machina" monsters onto your field and using the effect of "Commander Covington" to Special Summon "Machina Force" or the quick Summoning of "Machina Fortress".
+
The only exception to this rule is "Machina Metalcruncher" which is a hybrid between these two types being able to be normal summon to search out other Machina and being good discard so it could be bring back with higher ATK with it's effect.

Playing style
+
The original "Machina" playstyle was focused on Special Summoning "Machina Force" with the effect of "Commander Covington"; this playstyle had become obsolete with later "Machina" support and boss monsters, which are far more effective and poorly synergize with this original playstyle. Some "Machina" monsters are also Union monsters, but these effects only play a minimal role in the current "Machina" playstyle.
Before the release of Machina Mayhem Structure Deck, this Deck was not a TCG Deck. Unfortunately, after the release of Machina Mayhem, "Machina Sniper" didn't have the 'two-card lock' wording that "Marauding Captain", "Magician's Valkyria" and "Morphtronic Magnen" had, you couldn't block your opponents' attacks. "Machina Soldier" could Special Summon another "Machina", but usually that would not be enough. The concept was completely ignored until the Structure Deck was released.

The core components of a"'Machina" Deck are "Machina Fortress", "Machina Gearframe" and "Machina Peacekeeper" because of their versatility in any Machine oriented Deck. "Machina Force" also has a place, but only because it is an easy fodder for the Summoning requirement of "Fortress" that can be easily searched by "Gearframe". A common loop in all "Machina" Deck variants is that "Gearframe" and "Peacekeeper" search for each other, always ensuring that there is a Machine-Type monster ready for the discard cost of "Fortress".
+
Generally, EARTH "Machina" monsters are high-Level monsters with two common effect patterns: Special Summoning themselves by discarding Machine monsters, and destroying the player's Machine monsters (or trigger their effects in response to their destruction) for advantage. The two main "Machina" boss monsters with field-holding powers are "Machina Fortress" and "Machina Citadel", whose effects reflect these two patterns: "Fortress" can be Special Summoned from the hand or GY by discarding Machine monster(s) whose total Levels equal 8 or more, while "Citadel" can be Special Summoned from the GY if an EARTH Machine monster is destroyed, and has a Quick Effect that destroys the opponent's monsters by destroying one of the player's Machine monster.

Basically, the main strategy is to Tribute Machine-Type monsters to Summon more powerful Machine-Type monsters. It's harder than it looks, but when it's done right, you can easily defeat your opponent. Using cards like "Time Machine" and "Dimensional Prison" to protect your monsters until you can combine them is one way to ensure victory. Using "Swords of Revealing Light" when you have all the monsters needed to Summon "Machina Force" also works. This gives you enough time to complete the process.
+
The two key "Machina" consistency monsters are "Machina Metalcruncher" and "Machina Gearframe", who can search out "Machina" monsters when Summoned. "Machina Air Raider" and "Machina Irradiator" are supportive monsters that also require discarding to be Special Summoned, and can destroy the player's monsters to Special Summon "Machina" monsters from the Deck or GY.

Using the "Gadgets" is also recommended, since they can search for more Machine-Type monsters to be used to Summon "Machina Fortress". "Dekoichi the Battlechanted Locomotive" is a good Draw engine, and it is a good target for "Black Salvo" for an easy Level 7 Synchro Summon (such as "Black Rose Dragon"). Another good card for this Deck is "Cyber Valley" because of it's effect to stop the Battle Phase and to draw a card.
+
The DARK "Machina" monsters have more diverse supportive effects. "Machina Possesstorage" revives "Machina" monsters in the GY, "Machina Unclaspare" is an extender that also mills a "Machina" monster, and "Machina Resavenger" is an ATK boost hand trap with self-recovery. The DARK "Machina" boss monster, "Machina Ruinforce", is a 4600 ATK beatstick that can Special Summon itself from the GY by banishing Machine monsters in the GY; it can negate card effects during the Battle Phase, and can Special Summon banished "Machina" monsters when destroyed.

Another decent combo in the "Machina" archetype that you can use is to equip "Cyber Dragon" with "Armored Cybern". By keeping them in Defense Position you have a good defense and an even better offense. When you equip "Armored Cybern" to "Cyber Dragon" you can destroy a card by giving up 1000 ATK. You can also equip it to "Proto-Cyber Dragon" to do the exact same thing, but you can only do it once without an Equip Card to boost it's ATK. By using "Proto-Cyber Dragon" first and then upgrading it to "Cyber Dragon" you can easily keep your monsters safe until you can Summon "Machina Fortress" or "Machina Force". "Roll Out!" can be extremely helpful in this case (either by recycling the effect of "Armored Cybern" or providing more protection for your "Cyber Dragon").
+
Their spell and trap varies from searching, protection and recycling. "Machina Redeployment" help dump higher level Machina into the GY to search more Machina. "Machina Overdrive" help bring out a Machina right from the deck and serves as recycle, "Machina Armored Unit" and "Machina Defense Perimeter" both serves as protection and recycling.

Also, using "Future Fusion" to Summon "Chimeratech Overdragon" is a good way to send copies of "Machina Fortress" to the Graveyard. This can be timed along with the effect upon destruction of "Geartown" to Special Summon "Ancient Gear Gadjiltron Dragon". That's a good strategy to get your monsters to the Graveyard. It's not the best strategy, as "Chimeratech Overdragon" sends all other monsters you control to the Graveyard when Summoned this way, but it's still a powerful one and you can Summon the "Machina Fortress" once "Chimeratech Overdragon" is destroyed. This can also work with "The Last Warrior from Another Planet", though it is not a Machine-Type.

With nearly constant discard fodder of "Machina Fortress", numerous decent-ATK monsters, and a destruction-saving Union monster, this kind of Deck plays with relentless Beatdown and some field & hand control.

{{Decklist|Recommended Cards
+
The "Machina" archetype's overall game plan is a relentless beatdown strategy, constantly dumping and reviving easily Special Summoned high-ATK boss monsters to end the game as quickly as possible. While the Deck has little to no protection, it is capable of dodging targeted effect with their self-popping effect and either replace themselves or reviving another "Machina" monster from the Deck or graveyard, or blow up the opponent's field with the effect of "Machina Citadel". However, the archetype's reliance on discards and destroying the player's monsters gives it a poor grind game. This archetypal weakness is typically mitigated by hybridizing the Deck with another Machine archetype that provides a much stronger grind game, the two most common ones being the "Gadget" and "Infinitrack" archetype.

Machina Force OTK
+
Machina Gadget
* This combo applies to "Machina Force".
+
Machina Gadget
* This combo requires a "Commander Covington" on your side on the field and "Machina Defender", "Machina Sniper", "Machina Soldier" and "Machina Force" in your Graveyard.
+
Weaknesses
* You must have at least two copies of "Forces" in the Deck to use this combo.
+
* The archetype relies on its GY to maximize its limited grind game; if all monsters sent to the GY are banished instead, such as by the effect of "Dimensional Fissure" or "Macro Cosmos", the archetype becomes completely incapable of grinding and will easily burn itself out with its discard and self-destruction effects. In addition some Machina monster also need their card to be sent to the GY to activate their effects which means these card are extra effective against the archetype.
* Mill cards such as "Foolish Burial" and "Scrap Recycler" may improve effectiveness.
+
* Due to the deck huge reliance on Type and Attribute to proc most of their effect, cards such as "Zombie World" or "Lair of Darkness" will shut down half of the archetype.
# If you're playing Traditional Format, use "Future Fusion" (selecting "Chimeratech Overdragon") to send at least one of each of the following monsters to the Graveyard: "Cyber Dragon", "Force", "Defender", "Sniper" and "Soldier".
+
* As a Machine archetype, specific Type-counter cards such as "System Down" or "Chimeratech Fortress Dragon" are very effective against the Deck as Side Deck options.
# Summon "Phantom of Chaos". Then, banish "Force" via its effect to gain its name and effects.

# Use the the effect of "Force" acquired by "Phantom of Chaos" and Tribute "Phantom of Chaos" to Special Summon "Defender", "Sniper" and "Soldier".

# Tribute "Defender", "Sniper" and "Soldier" via "Commander Covington" to Special Summon "Force".

# Use "Limiter Removal" to double the ATK of "Machina Force" to 9200.

# Then, equip your "Force" with "Shooting Star Bow - Ceal" (9200 ATK → 8200 ATK) and attack your opponent's Life Points, reducing them to 0.

* An alternate but more risky combo is to equip "Megamorph" to "Force", rather than activating "Limiter Removal" to double its ATK. Then, if no player had lost any Life Points up till now, pay 1000 Life Points to attack an opponent's Attack Position monster and activate "Limiter Removal" during  damage calculation.

Weaknesses
A weakness of this Deck is being banished, as neither "Machina Fortress" nor "Machina Peacekeeper" (unless it is equipped to a monster) can activate their effects when "Dimensional Fissure", "Banisher of the Light", "Banisher of the Radiance" and/or "Macro Cosmos" is in play. "System Down" and "Karma Cut" are also devastating cards for this Deck, therefore a Side Deck containing "Imperial Iron Wall" and cards that destroy/negate Spells and Traps is needed. "Chimeratech Fortress Dragon" is also another card to look out for, as an opponent can remove all your Machine-Type monsters on your side of the field with its own - or even your own - "Cyber Dragon", leaving your field empty for a 2000-4000+ ATK Beatstick.

"Machina", known as "Machiners" (マシンナーズ Mashinnāzu) in the OCG and some video games, and as "Machine" in the English manga, is an archetype of EARTH and DARK Machine monsters which debuted in the OCG in Premium Pack 9. "Machina" monsters were used by Kirk Dixon in the Yu-Gi-Oh! R manga, Blister in the Yu-Gi-Oh! 5D's anime, and Bolt Tanner in the Yu-Gi-Oh! 5D's manga. Jerome McHale explained in a post on Pojo that the archetype's name was localized in the TCG name to "Machina" from "Machiners" because the former name "clearly demonstrates that these are Machine monsters, not other Types of monsters that do work on machines".

Playstyle[edit]

The archetype can be split into two type of monsters :

The only exception to this rule is "Machina Metalcruncher" which is a hybrid between these two types being able to be normal summon to search out other Machina and being good discard so it could be bring back with higher ATK with it's effect.

Machina Gadget[edit]

Weaknesses[edit]

 • The archetype relies on its GY to maximize its limited grind game; if all monsters sent to the GY are banished instead, such as by the effect of "Dimensional Fissure" or "Macro Cosmos", the archetype becomes completely incapable of grinding and will easily burn itself out with its discard and self-destruction effects. In addition some Machina monster also need their card to be sent to the GY to activate their effects which means these card are extra effective against the archetype.
 • Due to the deck huge reliance on Type and Attribute to proc most of their effect, cards such as "Zombie World" or "Lair of Darkness" will shut down half of the archetype.
 • As a Machine archetype, specific Type-counter cards such as "System Down" or "Chimeratech Fortress Dragon" are very effective against the Deck as Side Deck options.
