Playmaker and The Gore's first Duel

Playmaker and The Gore's first Duel is the second Duel of the Yu-Gi-Oh! VRAINS anime, conducted between Playmaker and The Gore.

Prior events[edit]

After defeating Number 10 in a broadcasted Duel, Playmaker began to be renowned as the new hero of LINK VRAINS. As a result, Gore started to lose his fans to Playmaker. One day, Akira Zaizen approached Gore with an offer to defeat Playmaker and retrieve Ai with the help of SOL Technologies, offering him a brand new Duel Board. Gore initially refused, but after seeing the children at his old orphanage cheering for Playmaker instead of greeting him when he brought them presents, Gore changed his mind, visiting Zaizen to accept his offer. The Gore disguised himself as a Knight of Hanoi within LINK VRAINS to draw out Playmaker, revealing himself when Playmaker showed up. Playmaker attempted to leave, disinterested in Dueling The Gore since he wasn't a Knight of Hanoi, but SOL Technologies used a program to prevent Playmaker from logging out until he defeated The Gore in a Duel.

The Duel[edit]

Turn 1: The Gore
Gore's hand contains "Gouki Suprex", two copies of "Gouki Twistcobra", and an unknown card. Gore Normal Summons "Gouki Suprex" (1800/0). As "Suprex" was Normal Summoned, Gore activates its effect, Special Summoning a "Gouki" monster from his hand. He Special Summons "Gouki Twistcobra" (1600/0) in Attack Position.

Turn 2: Playmaker
Playmaker Sets a card. As Playmaker controls no monsters, he Special Summons "Linkslayer" (2000/600) from his hand by its own effect. He Special Summons it in Attack Position. Playmaker Normal Summons "Cyberse Wizard" (1800/800). Playmaker activates the effect of "Cyberse Wizard", targeting Gore's Attack Position monster and changing it to Defense Position, then for the rest of this turn, Playmaker's monsters cannot attack, except to attack that monster, and if his Cyberse monster attacks a Defense Position monster, it inflicts piercing battle damage to Gore. He targets "Suprex". "Linkslayer" attacks and destroys "Suprex" (Gore: 4000 → 2000 LP). As "Suprex" was sent from the field to the GY, Gore activates its effect, adding a different "Gouki" card from his Deck to his hand. He adds "Gouki Riscorpio". Gore activates his Skill "Pain and Gain", Special Summoning all "Gouki" monsters that were destroyed by battle this turn. He Special Summons "Suprex" (1800/0).

Turn 3: The Gore
As all monsters Gore controls are "Gouki" monsters, he Normal Summons "Gouki Riscorpio" (2300/0) without Tributing by its own effect. Gore sets "Suprex", "Twistcobra", and "Riscorpio" in the Link Arrows to Link Summon "Gouki The Great Ogre" (2600/↙↓↘) to the Extra Monster Zone. As "Twistcobra", "Riscorpio", and "Suprex" were sent from the field to the GY, Gore activates their effects, adding a different "Gouki" card from his Deck to his hand. He adds "Riscorpio", "Gouki Re-Match", and "Gouki Headbatt". The effect of "Great Ogre" decreases the ATK of all monsters on the field equal to their original DEF ("Cyberse Wizard": 1800 → 1000 ATK, "Linkslayer": 2000 → 1400 ATK). Gore activates the Spell "Gouki Re-Match", targeting two "Gouki" monsters with different Levels in his GY and Special Summoning them in Defense Position. He targets and Special Summons the Level 5 "Riscorpio" (2300/0) and the Level 3 "Twistcobra" (1600/0), with "Twistcobra" Special Summoned to the zone the bottom-left Link Arrow of "Great Ogre" points to. Gore activates the effect of "Twistcobra", Tributing a "Gouki" monster, then targeting a "Gouki" monster he controls to increase the targeted monster's ATK equal to the original ATK of the Tributed monster until the end of this turn. He Tributes "Riscorpio" and targets "Great Ogre" ("Great Ogre": 2600 → 4900 ATK). Gore activates the effect of "Gouki Headbatt" in his hand, sending one other "Gouki" monster from his hand to the GY, then targeting a "Gouki" monster he controls to Special Summon "Headbatt" in Defense Position, then the targeted monster gains 800 ATK until the end of this turn. He sends "Twistcobra", targets "Great Ogre", and Special Summons "Headbatt" (800/0) to the zone the bottom-center Link Arrow of "Great Ogre" points to ("Great Ogre": 4900 → 5700 ATK). As a card or effect was activated that would change the ATK of exactly one monster on the field while Playmaker controls a Cyberse monster, he activates his face-down Trap "Cyberse Shatter", negating the ATK change, then drawing a card[Error 1] ("Great Ogre": 5700 → 4900 ATK). "Great Ogre" attacks and destroys "Cyberse Wizard" (Playmaker: 4000 → 100 LP).

Turn 4: Playmaker
Playmaker Normal Summons "Draconnet" (1400 → 200/1200). As "Draconnet" was Normal Summoned, Playmaker activates its effect, Special Summoning a Level 2 or lower Normal Monster from his hand or Deck in Defense Position. He Special Summons the Level 2 "Bitron" (200 → 0/2000) from his Deck. Playmaker sets "Bitron" in the Link Arrow to Link Summon "Link Spider" (1000/↓) to the Extra Monster Zone. Playmaker activates the effect of "Link Spider", Special Summoning a Level 4 or lower Normal Monster from his hand to his zone "Link Spider" points to. He Special Summons "Bitron" (200 → 0/2000) to the zone the bottom-center Link Arrow of "Link Spider" points to.

At this point, Playmaker enters the Data Storm. As Playmaker's LP is 1000 or less, he activates his Skill "Storm Access", accessing a Cyberse Link Monster at random from a nearby Data Storm and adding it to his Extra Deck. He obtains "Link Bumper" and adds it to his Extra Deck.

Playmaker sets "Bitron" and "Linkslayer" in the Link Arrows to Link Summon "Link Bumper" (1400/←↑) to the zone the bottom-center Link Arrow of "Link Spider" points to. As Playmaker controls a Cyberse monster, he Special Summons "Backup Secretary" (1200 → 400/800) from his hand by its own effect. He Special Summons it in Defense Position. Playmaker sets "Backup Secretary" and "Draconnet" in the Link Arrows to Link Summon "Honeybot" (1900/←→) to the zone the middle-left Link Arrow of "Link Bumper" points to. Playmaker sets "Link Spider" and the Link-2 "Honeybot" in the Link Arrows to Link Summon "Decode Talker" (2300/↙↑↘) to the zone the middle-left Link Arrow of "Link Bumper" points to. Playmaker activates the Equip Spell "Cyberse Annihilation", equipping it to "Decode Talker". If the equipped "Decode Talker" battles Gore's monster, the effect of "Cyberse Annihilation" makes the ATK of "Decode Talker" become equal to the ATK of the monster it is battling during damage calculation only. Playmaker activates the effect of "Cyberse Shatter" in his GY, banish it then targeting a Link-2 or lower Cyberse monster in his GY to Special Summon it. He targets and Special Summons the Link-2 "Honeybot" (1900/←→) such that its middle-right Link Arrow points to "Decode Talker".

"Decode Talker" attacks "Great Ogre" ("Decode Talker": 2300 → 2600 ATK). The effect of "Honeybot" prevents either player from targeting monsters it points to with card effects, also those monsters cannot be destroyed by battle. "Decode Talker" at the zone the middle-right Link Arrow "Honeybot" points to is not destroyed. As "Great Ogre" would be destroyed by battle or card effect, its effect allows Gore to destroy one of his monsters "Great Ogre" points to instead. He destroys "Headbatt" at the zone the bottom-center Link Arrow of "Great Ogre" points to. The attack continues and neither monster is destroyed. As "Headbatt" was sent from the field to the GY, Gore activates its effect, adding a different "Gouki" card from his Deck to his hand. He adds "Re-Match". At the end of the Damage Step, as Playmaker's monster "Link Bumper" points to attacked Gore's Link Monster, Playmaker activates its effect, allowing the monster that attacked to attack an additional time on Gore's Link Monster during this Battle Phase for each Link Monster Playmaker currently controls other than "Link Bumper", but his monsters cannot attack the turn he activates this effect, except that monster. Playmaker controls "Decode Talker" and "Honeybot", so "Decode Talker" gains two additional attacks. "Decode Talker" attacks "Great Ogre" ("Decode Talker": 2300 → 2600 ATK). As "Great Ogre" would be destroyed by battle, Gore destroys "Twistcobra" at the zone the bottom-left Link Arrow of "Great Ogre" points to instead. The attack continues and neither monster is destroyed. As "Twistcobra" was sent from the field to the GY, Gore activates its effect, adding a different "Gouki" card from his Deck to his hand. He adds "Suprex". "Decode Talker" attacks ("Decode Talker": 2300 → 2600 ATK) and destroys "Great Ogre". As the equipped "Decode Talker" destroyed a monster by battle, the effect of "Cyberse Annihilation" activates, inflicting damage to the controller equal to the ATK the destroyed monster had on the field (Gore: 2000 → 0 LP).

Aftermath[edit]

During the Duel, Playmaker obtained "Link Bumper" using Storm Access, allowing him to use it again in future Duels. After he defeated Gore, the program preventing Playmaker from logging out was removed, allowing Playmaker to log out.

Featured cards[edit]

Errors[edit]

  1. Even though the card text says it negates the activation of that card or effect, it only prevented the monster's ATK from being changed without negating the entire activation. Any other parts that effect had that were not related to the ATK change still took place.
