Yusei Fudo and Tetsu Trudge's first Duel

Yusei Fudo and Tetsu Trudge's first Duel is the first Duel of the Yu-Gi-Oh! 5D's anime, and the first Turbo Duel in the franchise, conducted between Yusei Fudo and Tetsu Trudge in an abandoned factory.

Prior events[edit]

Sector Security arrived outside Yusei's hideout in search of Rally Dawson, who had stolen a Duel Runner chip. Yusei helped Rally escape by jamming the signal from Rally's criminal mark using his laptop, then rode out on his Duel Runner as a decoy, while Rally and his friends fled. Security officers, including Tetsu Trudge, chased and confronted Yusei. Trudge realized that Yusei was just a decoy, since he didn't have a criminal mark to track, but noted that Yusei's involvement in Rally's escape was a crime and suspected that Yusei stole the Duel Runner he was using. Yusei challenged Trudge to a Turbo Duel, in which the events of that night would be forgotten if Yusei won. Against the advice of another Security officer, Trudge accepted the Duel.

The Duel[edit]

Before the start of the Duel, as per the rules of a Turbo Duel, the Field Spell "Speed World" is activated. If a player activates a non-"Speed Spell" Spell, they take 2000 damage. During each player's Standby Phase, each player places a Speed Counter on "Speed World", up to a maximum of twelve each. Also, each time a player takes damage, they reduce their Speed Counters by one for every 1000 points of damage they took.

Turn 1: Trudge
Trudge Normal Summons "Assault Dog" (1200/800). Trudge Sets a card.

Turn 2: Yusei
Yusei's hand contains "Scrap-Iron Scarecrow", "Sonic Chick", "Equip Shot", "Speed Spell - Vision Wind", and "Backup Soldier". Yusei draws "Speed Warrior". During the Standby Phase, the effect of "Speed World" activates (Yusei: 0 → 1 SPC, Trudge: 0 → 1 SPC). Yusei Normal Summons "Speed Warrior" (900/400). During the Battle Phase, as "Speed Warrior" was Normal Summoned this turn, Yusei activates its effect, doubling its original ATK until the end of the Battle Phase ("Speed Warrior": 900 → 1800 ATK). "Speed Warrior" attacks and destroys "Assault Dog" (Trudge: 4000 → 3400 LP). As "Assault Dog" was destroyed by battle and sent to the Graveyard, Trudge activates its effect, Special Summoning "Assault Dog" (1200/800) from his Deck. Yusei Sets a card.

Turn 3: Trudge
During the Standby Phase, the effect of "Speed World" activates (Yusei: 1 → 2 SPC, Trudge: 1 → 2 SPC). Trudge Tributes "Assault Dog" to Tribute Summon "Handcuffs Dragon" (1800/1800). "Handcuffs Dragon" attacks "Speed Warrior". As a monster Yusei controls was attacked, he activates his face-down Trap "Scrap-Iron Scarecrow", negating the attack, then Yusei can Set "Scrap-Iron Scarecrow" instead of sending it to the Graveyard. As Yusei's Trap Card was activated, Trudge activates his face-down Counter Trap "Wiretap", negating the activation, then shuffling that card into the Deck face-up, and until Yusei draws that card, he cannot activate another card with the same name. The activation of "Scrap-Iron Scarecrow" is negated and it is shuffled face-up into Yusei's Deck. The attack continues and "Speed Warrior" is destroyed (Yusei: 4000 → 3100 LP).

Turn 4: Yusei
During the Standby Phase, the effect of "Speed World" activates (Yusei: 2 → 3 SPC, Trudge: 2 → 3 SPC). Yusei Normal Summons "Sonic Chick" (300/300) in Defense Position. Yusei Sets two cards.

Turn 5: Trudge
During the Standby Phase, the effect of "Speed World" activates (Yusei: 3 → 4 SPC, Trudge: 3 → 4 SPC). Trudge sends three other monsters from his hand to the Graveyard to Special Summon "Montage Dragon" from his hand by its own effect. He sends the Level 4 "Assault Dog", the Level 3 "Guard Dog", and the Level 3 "Tactical Espionage Expert" to Special Summon "Montage Dragon" (?/0). The effect of "Montage Dragon" makes its ATK equal to the combined Levels of the monsters sent to the Graveyard to Special Summon it times 300. The combined Levels equal 10 ("Montage Dragon": ? → 3000 ATK). "Handcuffs Dragon" attacks and destroys "Sonic Chick". "Montage Dragon" attacks Yusei directly (Yusei: 3100 → 100 LP, 4 → 1 SPC).

Turn 6: Yusei
Yusei draws "Junk Synchron". During the Standby Phase, the effect of "Speed World" activates (Yusei: 1 → 2 SPC, Trudge: 4 → 5 SPC). Yusei Normal Summons "Junk Synchron" (1300/500). Yusei activates his face-down Continuous Trap "Graceful Revival", targeting a Level 2 or lower monster in his Graveyard, Special Summoning it in Attack Position, and equipping it with "Graceful Revival". He targets and Special Summons the Level 2 "Speed Warrior" (900/400), then equips "Graceful Revival" to it. Yusei tunes the Level 3 Tuner "Junk Synchron" with the Level 2 "Speed Warrior" to Synchro Summon the Level 5 "Junk Warrior" (2300/1300). As Yusei has two or more Speed Counters, he activates "Speed Spell - Vision Wind", Special Summoning a Level 2 or lower monster from his Graveyard, but it is destroyed at the end of this turn. He Special Summons "Speed Warrior" (900/400). The effect of "Junk Warrior" increases its ATK equal to the total ATK of all face-up Level 2 or lower monsters Yusei controls[Notes 1] ("Junk Warrior": 2300 → 3200 ATK). "Junk Warrior" attacks and destroys "Handcuffs Dragon" (Trudge: 3400 → 2000 LP, 5 → 4 SPC). As "Handcuffs Dragon" was destroyed by battle with Yusei's attacking monster and sent to the Graveyard, Trudge activates its effect, equipping "Handcuffs Dragon" to that monster. "Handcuffs Dragon" is equipped to "Junk Warrior". The effect of "Handcuffs Dragon" decreases the ATK of the equipped "Junk Warrior" by 1800 ("Junk Warrior": 3200 → 1400 ATK). During the Battle Phase, Yusei activates his face-down Trap "Equip Shot", targeting an Equip Card equipped to an Attack Position monster he controls and an Attack Position monster Trudge controls and equipping that monster with that Equip Card, then making those monsters battle. He targets "Handcuffs Dragon" and "Montage Dragon" ("Montage Dragon": 3000 → 1200 ATK, "Junk Warrior": 1400 → 3200 ATK), then makes "Junk Warrior" and "Montage Dragon" battle, with "Montage Dragon" being destroyed (Trudge: 2000 → 0 LP).

Aftermath[edit]

Trudge kept his word; he didn't arrest Rally or Yusei for their crimes that night, but he still vowed to crush Yusei eventually.

Notes[edit]

  1. In the written Japanese anime lore of "Junk Warrior" this effect activates when it is Synchro Summoned.
