Summary[edit]

Seto Kaiba is walking down a pathway towards Pegasus Castle, looking at his locket, which contains a picture of young Mokuba. Suddenly, he hears a voice from the trees alongside the path, and Kemo pops out brandishing a gun. Kemo puts the gun against Kaiba's temple, and Kaiba says he will pay for betraying him. Kemo says he is just acting on Industrial Illusions' orders, and says he will guide Kaiba to Pegasus Castle. He says if Kaiba refuses, he will pull the trigger. Kaiba says no, and Kemo gets ready to shoot, but Kaiba throws a card to jam the gun, "Gyakutenno Megami". With the gun jammed, Kaiba pulls it away from Kemo, saying that it is his fault that his rare card was damaged. Kemo rushes at Kaiba, but Kaiba elbows him in the gut and throws him to the ground. He pulls Kemo up by the collar and tells him to lead him to Mokuba. (In the dub, the entire gun scene is cut, and instead Kemo rushing Kaiba is the first action taken.)

Meanwhile, Yugi and Joey have just taken down the Paradox Brothers' monster, "Wall Shadow", using the combined power of "Celtic Guardian" and "Kunai with Chain". On Joey's turn, he thinks that his "Axe Raider" on the field is not strong enough to support Yugi. He Summons the Level 5 "Flame Swordsman" in Attack Position, and moves it four spaces into the maze, despite it being allowed to move five spaces due to its Level. He also moves "Axe Raider" four spaces, explaining that since "Kunai with Chain" used its Trap effect already, it equips onto "Axe Raider", increasing its ATK by 500 for a total of 2200. Joey's "Flame Swordsman" and "Axe Raider" and Yugi's "Celtic Guardian" now all occupy the same space in the labyrinth.

On Dox's turn, he advances his "Labyrinth Tank" seven spaces. He thinks that not only will "Labyrinth Tank" enter firing range soon, but his Trap "Jirai Gumo" is on one of the spaces in front of Yugi and Joey's monsters. He says that they will never make it through the labyrinth's traps.

On Yugi's turn, he Summons the Level 7 "Dark Magician" in Attack Position. He advances it five spaces, so as to place it in front of the rest of his and Joey's monsters. Para thinks that their plan to conquer the labyrinth by combining forces will soon be futile. He activates the Spell "Magical Labyrinth". The entire maze begins to rumble, and walls begin to rise and fall as the Labyrinth changes shape. A wall appears between Yugi's monsters and Joey's monsters, and Joey cries out that their party is split. Para says that with their monsters split, it will be easier to target down the weaker of the two Duelists — Joey.

On Joey's turn, he seems somewhat flustered having to work separately, but Yugi tells him to calm down. Joey moves his "Axe Raider" and "Flame Swordsman" forward, but the movement of "Axe Raider" triggers Dox's Trap, "Jirai Gumo". A giant spider emerges from where "Axe Raider" was standing and wraps its claws around it. Dox explains that the effect of "Jirai Gumo" reduces the ATK of "Axe Raider" back down to its original 1700, which gives "Jirai Gumo" enough ATK to destroy it. Joey's Life Points fall to 1600, and Joey is left shaking in fear. Tristan curses how the brothers are playing dirty again. Dox advances "Labyrinth Tank" seven spaces forward, which puts it right behind "Jirai Gumo" and "Flame Swordsman", and Sets a monster. Dox thinks that with "Flame Swordsman" in the firing range of "Labyrinth Tank", it will be destroyed next turn.

Yugi draws and smiles, which causes the Paradox Brothers to tense up. Yugi activates his Spell "Mystic Box", combining it with his "Dark Magician". "Dark Magician" is sealed within a box, and dozens of swords appear and skewer the box. Dox thinks that Yugi has lost his mind and sacrificed his own monster, but Para tells him to look again, and another box pops up around "Jirai Gumo". When the skewered box opened, it is revealed that the monster skewered was not "Dark Magician", but "Jirai Gumo". At the same time, "Dark Magician" emerges from the other box unharmed. Yugi explains that "Dark Magician" is able to teleport using "Mystic Box" by sacrificing one enemy. "Dark Magician", from its new position, attacks and destroys "Labyrinth Tank" with "Dark Magic Attack". Dox's strongest monster is taken out, and his Life Points drop to 1900. Yugi declares that with their teamwork, he and Joey will overcome anything standing in their way.

Back at the Castle, Kaiba and Kemo are standing at the entrance to Pegasus Castle. Kaiba demands that Kemo open the door, but Kemo reminds Kaiba that he will be found eventually, before opening the door with a hand scanner. In the dining room, Pegasus sips his wine and chuckles, while in the dungeon, Mokuba looks at his locket of young Seto again. (In the dub, Kemo says that Pegasus probably already knows of Kaiba's presence, and Pegasus's Millennium Eye glows in the dining room.)

Back in the cave, Para draws and smirks. He thinks that his card is "Sanga of the Thunder", one of the three gods that control lightning, wind, and water. If they are able to gather the other two cards, "Kazejin" and "Suijin", they will be able to Summon "Gate Guardian". Joey orders Para to stop smirking and hurry up. Para Sets "Sanga", and it materializes in the form of a coffin-shaped box tied together by string. Yugi asks what could be in there, and Joey says they will find out when their monsters reach the end. On Joey's turn, he advances "Flame Swordsman" forward five spaces and ends his turn.

On Dox's turn, he draws "Suijin". He Sets it, and another box appears next to that of "Sanga". Yugi senses that the field is turning foul, and that it is not just the oppressiveness of the Labyrinth Field - it must be caused by the overwhelming presence of the monsters in the boxes. Dox thinks that the only god left is "Kazejin", and to facilitate its appearance, he will weaken his opponent's offenses for now. He Flip Summons his Set "Dungeon Worm", and activates "Invigoration" to raise its ATK by 400, for a total of 2200. "Dungeon Worm" suddenly burrows underground, and Joey wonders where it went, as the "Worm" pops out right underfoot of "Celtic Guardian". With "Celtic Guardian" grasped in its jaws, "Dungeon Worm" goes back into the hole it had created, and "Celtic Guardian" is destroyed, dropping Yugi's Life Points to 800. Tristan and Téa lambast the brothers' dirty play, but Dox says this is the true terror of the Labyrinth.

Yugi activates his Spell "Magical Hats", combining it with "Dark Magician". Four hats appear on four different spaces of the Labyrinth, concealing "Dark Magician" and "Flame Swordsman". Joey celebrates this move, as now "Dungeon Worm" will be confused. Yugi explains that since "Dark Magician" is stronger than "Dungeon Worm", attacking a "Hat" carries risk. However, Para counters this by Summoning "Monster Tamer". He explains that normally, he would not be able to use Dox's "Dungeon Worm", but through the effect of "Monster Tamer", he can not only use it this turn, but give it an extra 600 ATK, which makes it stronger than "Dark Magician". "Monster Tamer" commands "Dungeon Worm" to attack a "Hat", but it is revealed to be empty. Joey breathes a sigh of relief. Yugi thinks that although they got lucky this time, "Dungeon Worm" will keep attacking next turn.

On Joey's turn, he remarks that he never liked small, dark spaces anyway. He orders "Flame Swordsman" to leap out of its "Hat", to Yugi's alarm. Tristan wonders if Joey has gone insane, but Joey adds a Spell, "Salamandra", which inhabits the sword of "Flame Swordsman" and raises its ATK by 700. "Salamandra" leaps out of the sword and into the hole created by the "Dungeon Worm", as Joey orders "Salamandra Flame Strike". Bakura observes that since it is not Para's turn anymore, "Dungeon Worm" does not have an attack boost from "Monster Tamer", and that Joey's "Salamandra" can roast underground monsters. (In the dub, he says that because the "Worm" is weak to fire, the boost from "Monster Tamer" is negated.) "Dungeon Worm" appears at the surface before burning up as "Flame Swordsman" destroys it. Dox's Life Points fall to 1600.

Para orders Dox to stay calm as Dox delights at his next draw. Para says that this means the brothers' victory is assured. Dox Summons "Kazejin" and says that now, the brothers have assembled all three gods. The boxes begin to rumble and burst open, emitting bright light. Dox chants "The three gods of thunder, water and wind! Combine your powers and resurrect with a roar! Come out, Gate Guardian!". Joey remarks that it looks incredible. Bakura says that this guardian god guards the doors of the Labyrinth, and they will not be able to escape without destroying it. Joey says that the Labyrinth's final boss has appeared, and that he will destroy it. The brothers say that the power of their combined god will ensure Yugi and Joey never reach the end. Yugi says they will fight back against the combined god with teamwork, as the brothers implore them to bring it on. (In the dub, Para explains that the "Guardian" is composed of three unique parts each corresponding to one element, and Dox says that no one has ever gotten past it.)

Meanwhile, Kaiba and Kemo are walking through the Castle's underground hallway. Kemo says that Kaiba seems very worried about Mokuba, and that their bond must be strong, as Kaiba tells him to stop talking. He continues going on about how despite losing their parents at a young age, they heroically helped each other to survive, and calls it a "touching" story, which causes Kaiba to grab him by the collar and tell him to shut up. (In the dub, Kemo is trying to act tough, saying that he was only captured because Kaiba got the jump on him.) Kemo insists that Mokuba has not been harmed, and that they are almost there. In the dungeon, Mokuba flashes back again to watching one of the orphanage's other kids get adopted, and Mokuba turned to Kaiba and said they will stay together forever. (In the dub, Kaiba refused to go with other parents who wanted to adopt only him.) He thinks that because Kaiba made him a promise, he will be fine, and looks at his locket again.

Back in the hallway, Kemo stops and says that this is the place, despite no sign of Mokuba around. He says that he led Kaiba to this spot, and then stomps on a tile in the floor, which is revealed to be a pressure plate that triggers an alarm. Kemo says that security will arrive soon, and Kaiba rushes onwards past Kemo. Kemo says that he hopes their reunion is emotional. Up in the dining room, Croquet tells Pegasus that they have located Seto Kaiba, and Pegasus responds that he foresaw it. Croquet says they will capture him, but Pegasus says that will not be necessary, as he stands up and tells Croquet to turn off the alarm. He walks away and says that he is going to meet Kaiba.

Mokuba hears the alarm sound and stands up, thinking that means his brother has come. (In the dub, he does not hear the alarm, but instead Kaiba calling to him.)

Back in the Labyrinth, Yugi ends his turn by Setting two cards. On Para's turn, he orders "Gate Guardian" to attack "Flame Swordsman", which it does by firing a beam of light out of the body of "Sanga". Joey panics and says there is nowhere to run, as Para declares "Thunder-Stroke Attack". The beam is launched at "Flame Swordsman", as the screen fades to white.

Featured Duel: Yami Yugi & Joey Wheeler vs. Para & Dox[edit]

Duel continues from the previous episode.

Yugi has 1600 LP remaining, and controls "Celtic Guardian" (1400/1200) in Attack Position and no Set cards.
Joey Wheeler has 2000 LP remaining, and controls "Axe Raider" (2200/1150) in Attack Position equipped with "Kunai with Chain" and no Set cards.
Para has 1700 LP remaining, and controls no monsters or Set cards.
Dox has 2000 LP remaining, and controls "Labyrinth Tank" (2400/2400) in Attack Position, "Labyrinth Wall" and 1 Set card ("Jirai Gumo").

Turn 8: Joey
Joey draws "Flame Swordsman" and subsequently Normal Summons it (1800/1600) in Attack Position. Since "Flame Swordsman" is a Level 5 monster, Joey can move it up to 5 spaces, but he chooses to move it only 4 spaces inside the maze, arriving at the same space as "Celtic Guardian". He then moves "Axe Raider" inside the maze. Since it is a Level 4 monster, he moves it by 4 spaces. It joins "Flame Swordsman" and "Celtic Guardian".

Turn 9: Dox
Dox draws. He then moves "Labyrinth Tank" another 7 spaces.

Turn 10: Yami Yugi
Yugi draws. He then Normal Summons "Dark Magician" (2500/2100) in Attack Position. Since it is a Level 7 monster, Yugi can move it up to 7 spaces, but he chooses to move it only 5 spaces inside the maze, in front of "Celtic Guardian" and Joey's monsters.

Turn 11: Para
Para draws "Magical Labyrinth" and subsequently activates it to change the shape of "Labyrinth Wall" maze. "Flame Swordsman" and "Axe Raider" are separated from "Celtic Guardian" and "Dark Magician".

Turn 12: Joey
Joey draws. He then moves "Flame Swordsman" and "Axe Raider" ahead, but "Axe Raider" steps on the space of ""Jirai Gumo", causing it to appear on the field in Attack Position (2100/1000) and attack "Axe Raider". Due to the effect of "Jirai Gumo", the ATK of "Axe Raider" becomes its original ATK during the Damage Step ("Axe Raider": 2200 → 1700/1150). "Jirai Gumo" destroys "Axe Raider" (Joey: 2000 → 1600 LP).

Turn 13: Dox
Dox draws. He then moves "Labyrinth Tank" another 7 spaces, arriving right behind "Jirai Gumo". He then Sets "Dungeon Worm".

Turn 14: Yami Yugi
Yugi draws "Mystic Box" and subsequently activates it to force "Jirai Gumo" and "Dark Magician" to swap locations and destroy "Jirai Gumo". "Dark Magician" attacks and destroys "Labyrinth Tank" (Dox: 2000 → 1900 LP).

Turn 15: Para
Para draws "Sanga of the Thunder" and subsequently Sets it.

Turn 16: Joey
Joey draws. He then moves "Flame Swordsman" five spaces.

Turn 17: Dox
Dox draws "Suijin" and subsequently Sets it. He then Flip Summons "Dungeon Worm" (1800/1500) to Attack Position. He then activates "Invigoration" and equips it to "Dungeon Worm", increasing the latter's ATK by 400 and decreasing its DEF by 200 ("Dungeon Worm": 1800 → 2200/1500 → 1300). Since it's a burrower, "Dungeon Worm" is able to move freely under the maze, bypassing the spaces and attacking any monster. "Dungeon Worm" attacks and destroys "Celtic Guardian" (Yugi: 1600 → 800 LP). "Dungeon Worm" then retreats underground.

Turn 18: Yami Yugi
Yugi draws. He then activates "Magical Hats", hiding "Dark Magician" and "Flame Swordsman" under two of four "Hats".

Turn 19: Para
Para draws. He then Normal Summons "Monster Tamer" (1800/1600) in Attack Position. Due to the effect of "Monster Tamer", Para can take control of Dox's "Dungeon Worm" and increase its ATK by 600 ("Dungeon Worm": 2200 → 2800/1300). "Dungeon Worm" attacks and destroys a "Hat", which is revealed to be empty. "Dungeon Worm" then retreats underground.

Turn 20: Joey
Joey draws. He then releases his "Flame Swordsman" from the "Hat" it was under. He then activates "Salamandra" and equips it to "Flame Swordsman", increasing the latter's ATK by 700 ("Flame Swordsman": 1800 → 2500/1600). "Flame Swordsman" attacks "Dungeon Worm". The Salamandra attack steers itself into the destroyed hat and down the tunnels, allowing "Flame Swordsman" to attack without moving and strike an underground monster. Also, since "Dungeon Worm" is weak against FIRE-Attribute monsters, it loses the ATK bonus from "Monster Tamer" ("Dungeon Worm": 2800 → 2200/1300). "Flame Swordsman" destroys "Dungeon Worm" (Dox: 1900 → 1600 LP).

Turn 21: Dox
Dox draws "Kazejin" and subsequently Normal Summons it (2400/2200) in Attack Position. He then Flip Summons "Suijin" (2500/2400) and "Sanga of the Thunder" (2600/2200) and combines them with "Kazejin" in order to form "Gate Guardian" in Attack Position.

Turn 22: Yami Yugi
Yugi draws. He then Sets two cards.

Turn 23: Para
"Sanga of the Thunder" attacks "Flame Swordsman".

Duel continues in the next episode.

Differences in adaptations[edit]

  • The gun in Kemo's hand is erased from the dub.
    • Due to this, most of the fight between Kaiba and Kemo is also cut out from the dub.
  • Shots of the Paradox Brothers are changed to show them talking in the US version. In the Japanese, they just standing there looking fierce.
  • In the dub, a spider graphic was added to the square Axe Raider steps on.
  • Mystic Box has a slightly different artwork in the dub.
  • A shot is changed in the dub to show the "Jirai Gumo" card being pierced by swords, rather than the monster itself.
  • In the dub, the Paradox Brothers' acrobatic entrance is replayed right before Dox Summons "Kazejin".
  • The words "TO BE CONTINUED" are added at the end of the dub episode.
