Need help :(

Im trying to find out something but am having no luck. I was wondering is there a yugioh card that is NOT a magic or trap card that prevents your opponent setting monsters and means they all have to be face up? thnx ppl/dude idont know but swords is good it flips up yours and your opponents monsters (Blackwingggys 17:36, 10 July 2009 (UTC))

Dark Simorgh, foo. Runer5h 17:40, 10 July 2009 (UTC)Runer5h

if you have a flying fortress skyfire you can destroy a monster the minute they try to set it then dealing a direct 800 damage to their lifepoints, giving them no choice but to play it face-up! hope this helped ;^)

  • SKY FIRE doesn't stop people from setting stuff, it just destroys it while it is facedown. Oh, and you make it sound like they summon a monster, destroy it, do 800 damage and then it magically comes back face-up. D.Kaiser (Talk Contribs Count) 19:22, February 14, 2010 (UTC)

well, many spells n traps can destroy set cards but for monsters... no, wot ur lookin 4 is non-existant. the best bet would b to use FF sky fire, dark simorgh and any wind monsters realy... i like harpies in this deck (easy swarm, harpie lady 1 increases attack)... n birdface to search quickly... u can destroy set monsters with ff skyfire n u can prevent the actual activation of spells n traps with Dark Simorgh and Anti-Spell Fragrance

It sounds to me like everyone is misunderstanding effects. Dark Simorgh fits the bill (and has the additional effect that they can't set spells or traps either) unless you want them to play their monsters in face-up defense position and then there is nothing. Flying Fortress SKY FIRE can destroy a monster whether it's face-up or face-down but only once per turn so that card shouldn't really have been included in this argument. --89.240.140.33 17:29, March 12, 2010 (UTC)

5 dragons

We need an article (under legendary dragons, egyptian gods, sacred beasts, etc.) about the 5 dragons in yugioh 5d's, as soon as it airs on april 4. 75.37.148.224 21:00, 26 March 2008 (UTC)

About the Featured Card

I think is time to change it, the Cyber Dragon article has been there for a lot of time. Why was changed it back to the Cyber Dragon one? The Spirit Reaper and Demise article were good.

The Featured Card needs to be updated more frequently. They are interesting reads, and it's nice to see the various rare cards that were the hype back in the day

-The Dark Magician Girl article has been there for about 2 months. I would suggest changing it. Some cards I would like to suggest to be featured are Macro Cosmos, Dark Armed Dragon, Rainbow Dragon, etc. Also, you may feature some unnoticed cards like The Cheerful Coffin, or some cards that were useful in the past like Seven Tools of the Bandit. I hope you'll consider it.Dark Pride 04:25, 28 May 2008 (UTC)

Can I please write the articles for the Featured Card? It's starting to be startlingly annoying to see Stardust every time I login. (say that sentence to yourself outloud. XD) TeardropStar 02:02, 5 January 2009 (UTC)

Main page vandalism

Apparently, someone just vandalised the main page, could someone please restore the page and warn the vandal? Maelstromm 10:50, 21 March 2007 (UTC)

I've been looking at the main page history and it seems like it's being vandalized all the time! Normally I would suggest restricting it or something but there's the previous discussion about locking the main page. (below) Robo Mike 07:28, 28 March 2007 (UTC)

You Know Why CDIP Sucked and why Strike of Neos is good

I Believe that they are putting in to many weak but cool looking anime cards such as cyberdark dragon which could become a solid deck type if there were better dragons.STON looks good because it has relativly good monsters. I was the guy who posted the duelist pack Zane release date originaly gimme credit. You may continue this discussion on my talk page Valas 15:41, 12 February 2007 (UTC)

-Nobody takes credit for anything on this Wikia, it is against the spitit of the GFDL, which I personally take very seriously. Credit for all content on the Wikia extends to every single contributor.--TwoTailedFox (My Talk Page) 23:06, 12 February 2007 (UTC)

That is not what he meant by "gimme credit." He meant was that he has some knowledge in what he is saying.

Should we include more card pics?

Right now we only have one pic of each card. Do you think we should include more (and maybe make them smaller for more room, people can click on them to get a better view.) --63.65.45.98 17:34, 6 October 2006 (UTC)

One image per card article is good enough, for three reasons.

1) Lack of room, since the image should be clear, and be of a decent size 2) This is a TCG-orientated Site, with info on the OCG translated into English 3) Card Galleries are already under construction to house every pic of every card. - TwoTailedFox

I've found alot of Japenese cards but where the number in the bottem left corner should be it instead reads "Replica" or without any number at all. Are these legitamite cards? --DarkMastero 20:47, 7 October 2006 (UTC)

  • They are perfectly legitimate, in the OCG, "Replica" is used to denote that the card has been reprinted. --TwoTailedFox (My Talk Page) 20:53, 7 October 2006 (UTC)

List of Decks

updated version of the list:

http://www.pojo.biz/board/showthread.php?t=188937

Always in progress.

Excuse me, but...

Excuse me, but Ancient Sanctuary is not a discontinued set, the discontinued sets are the first five, Legend of Blue Eyes White Dragon, Metal Raiders, Magic Ruler, Pharaoh's Servant, and Labyrinth of Nightmare. Everything else is still out on the market.

I believe by "discontinued" they mean no longer in production. However, they can still be found in stores. I am not completely sure of this.

discontinued means no longer in production

huh?

Page widening problem

Hi, I've made some changes to the tables on the main page, they were covering over the Google ads on some screen resolutions. You have a lot on this page, you may want to consider moving some to another page. As you grow it will be even more difficult to fit every thing on. I'd suggest taking out everything under the card of the week, and moving it to it's own page. It's looking good though. Regards -- sannse (talk) 20:58, 22 February 2006 (UTC)

  • Thanks, I'll mark that as the first thing I'll do on my day off. I've fixed a few things that didn't look right, but kept the basic layout you edited. --TwoTailedFox 19:22, 23 February 2006 (UTC)

Deck Type Redlinks

I have been working on fixing redlinks on the Main Page, specifically the Deck Type redlinks, but seeing as almost every single one of the Deck Type links are redlinks I can't do it alone. Since Deck Types are significant in Yu-Gi-Oh, we should concentrate on fixing as many of these redlinks as possible. I have fixed the following redlinks so far:

Burn Deck

Beatdown Deck

The articles which already exist are painfully short and uninformative. Please help; these redlinks must be fixed!

I'd help, but I only know of the decks that actually have articles so far. And for several years, I only played Beatdown. (Being on a limited budget sucks) Anything else I could help with? Jgamekeeper 06:45, 11 November 2006 (UTC)
Do you know how categories work? Perhaps you could help to categorise the pages about the decks you know. Wikipedia:Help:Categories is very long, so perhaps not too useful, but basically, you type [[Category:Deck type]] (or whatever you want to call the category) at the end of the page. Then you can follow the red link to the category page and give it a brief description (like "these pages are about "whatever"). Other things that need doing are just improving and expanding the existing pages, and also promoting the wiki to others who might be able to help. Angela talk 14:11, 11 November 2006 (UTC)
I have a wide knolage of Yu-Gi-Oh decks. I'll help to fix the redlinks please send me an email (mines [email protected]) telling me some of the redlinks. - SplendidVenus

Players ?

1.Can I add an article about the best Yu-Gi-Oh! players ? 2.Can I add an article about card's shortcuts ?

  • I would do articles about Individual players, liked from an Article, such as 'Notable Yu-Gi-Oh Players'
  • I'm not sure entirely what you mean.--TwoTailedFox 16:58, 23 August 2006 (UTC)

I think he means real life players of the TCG. --63.65.45.98 04:05, 23 November 2006 (UTC)

Suggestion

Someone should protect this page from vandalism.

That would be more damaging that helpful at this stage. The main page needs improving, and it's easy to revert vandalism. See Wikia:Help:Main Page for reasons this needs to be left open to encourage new users. Angela talk 08:07, 4 November 2006 (UTC)
Is protecting this page from moving OK ?
Yes, I'll do that now. Angela talk 14:11, 11 November 2006 (UTC)
Another idea: How about locking the page from anonymous users?--SWME 01:41, 20 November 2006 (UTC)
Do you think it's necessary? It's not like it's under attact from anonymous users. Considering the majority of people who view it are anonymous users, it could be quite offputting and prevent people getting involved with the wiki. Angela talk 05:56, 20 November 2006 (UTC)
I know it isn't for wikis this but it is only for the wikis that need it.--SWME 03:58, 23 November 2006 (UTC)
I don't really think locking the main page from edits is a bad idea, considering that the past few attacks have mostly been done by anonymous users who didn't register/login. I propose that only the mods are allowed to edit the main page, this would definitely reduce the number of vandalism cases. And seeing as the wiki has grown by leaps and bounds since this issue was last discussed, I don't think the 'off-putting' of new users is that much of an issue. I believe that if the new users really want to contribute to this wiki, the locking of the main page won't put them off at all. Maelstromm 11:53, 11 July 2007 (UTC)
Lock the effing Main Page. -- June 12:24, 11 July 2007 (UTC)
Having a Main Page locked to edits is quite unwelcoming to new editors, and indeed, many fixes have been made to the main page by non-mainstream editors.--TwoTailedFox (My Talk Page) 15:29, 11 July 2007 (UTC)
If you say so, but it's rather annoying to come to the wiki only to find that vandals have struck 2 days in a row...Maelstromm 13:11, 12 July 2007 (UTC)

Discontinued Packs

Excuse me but i never knew packs could be discontinued. Does anyone know why they got discontinued? If so leave the answer in my talk page. --Evil Yugi 14:42, 11 November 2006 (UTC)

nothing is ever "discontinued". anything made can be found on Amazon.com or other general online websites. usually specific stores will not carry older packs (like Wal-Mart/K-Mart), since they're less in demand. but specialty stores will still carry all the ones ever printed. --> RyuSenshi 01:19, October 10, 2009 (UTC)

Singapore Yu-Gi-Oh! dub

Hey, guys! Did you know that there is a Singapore English dub of Yu-Gi-Oh!?

A thread at Janime ( http://www.janime.eu/showthread.php?t=15598 ) told me all about it.

  • Characters use dub names
  • Visuals are unaltered
  • The dialogue is a mix of US dub and uncut dialogue, like the uncut US dub

More or less, it is a different, exotic dub! WhisperToMe 01:02, 28 December 2006 (UTC)

Too much on Main Page?

The main page is WAY too clunky. too much on it.... i would suggest breaking it up into subpages OR adding a template based "show/hide" (see Here for an example). Keeping the main stuff seperate butt adding the "show/Hide" chart under... --Midnight08 18:33, 5 January 2007 (UTC)

  • I currently have plans in the Work to Branch out from the Main Page to at least 4 Seperate Sections, with the aid of some Image-based redirects. --TwoTailedFox (My Talk Page) 23:13, 5 January 2007 (UTC)

Merging Articles

I may be new here, but already I've noticed some explanation pages are really, really short. As wikipedia would put it, a stub. Wouldn't it be better to merge similar articles together in one page with subheadings? Examples would be the Monster card type pages (Warrior, Aqua, Pyro...etc) and perhaps a few other things like that?

At least you wouldn't have to load up a new page everytime to see everything. Louisisthebest 007 14:45, 20 January 2007 (UTC)

A page per subject allows each to be expanded, and cover a whole range of topics, withot having to spread to different pages later on. What is small now will be expanded upon in due course.--TwoTailedFox (My Talk Page) 15:40, 20 January 2007 (UTC)

Yeah, TwoTailedFox is right. Some very short pages right now will get longer and longer as time goes by because this Wikia is not complete yet. There is still a lot of information about Yu-Gi-Oh! that isn't on this site yet, AnnaV 18:19, 28 January 2007 (UTC)

Quite often what I see on Wikipedia is that for a given range of topics, there's one central page where each topic is briefly covered in its own section, with a link out to a seperate page where the topic is discussed in greater detail. This would be an excellent idea for e.g. monster types or various rulings, as it would mean that a user would only have to load one page for a general overview, but could 'drill down' to seperate pages for a more thorough discussion. --Dinoguy1000 What?I did it! 01:17, 20 October 2007 (UTC)

Card Of the Day

I think we should have a "card of the Day" Article, If you call the "Featured Card" card of the day, but how can it be "card of the day" when its up for like 3 months? ~ AncientGear

  • Do I have the permission to change the "card of the day" Article if it is still the same even for a week? Omarz
    • I just changed it, and I'll try to keep them rotating every three weeks. I'd still like to do them, but I'd like suggestions ^.^.--TwoTailedFox (My Talk Page) 18:25, 16 April 2007 (UTC)
      • Thank you. It would be nice also to feature cards like Ojamas, not necessarily strong cards. That's my suggestion. Omarz
        • It is still Cyber Dragon... Omarz

Suggestion

You know, if you would protect the Main Page from editing, you wouldn't receive vandalism to it, I mean, just look at some of the other wikis... --85.130.10.245 22:04, 10 March 2007 (UTC)

  • We actually have very little Vandalism, and protecting a Main Page doesn't seem very inviting to new contributers.--TwoTailedFox (My Talk Page) 22:09, 10 March 2007 (UTC)
  • Ok, just a safety measure. I'm glad to see you trust your contributors so much, this should make for a very strong community in the future. --85.130.10.245 23:02, 10 March 2007 (UTC)

Card Game Glitches

I've noticed a new topic in the main link section on the front page called Game Card Glitches. While I'm not against it, I am very confused on what it's actually for. There isn't any guidelines or content inside of it, just a load of alphabetised letters categories.
Does anybody know what this topic is for, or will I have to make a awful pun about strange articles appearing out of nowhere being a 'glitch' or something? :P
--Louisisthebest 007 14:24, 12 March 2007 (UTC)

  • If would have a look at the Templates, I effectively added a link on every card on that. They're for cards whose effects are sometimes not reflected in the Games. Two notable examples: Blue Medicine only increasing the controller's Life Points, which happens in (nearly) every game it's appeared on, and in Tag Force, with Manticore of Darkness, you are not given the opportunity to activate it's effect. Glitches such as as this.--TwoTailedFox (My Talk Page) 16:33, 12 March 2007 (UTC)

Attacks

i am trying to add all posibble attackes to their respective cards i am talking about for example the cards i ahve already done the sacred beast cards atacks (like hammons cerrulian sky fire attack) and ryu-ran's fire stream attack i plane to do the cyber dragons next and i would apprisiate help on this

In my opinion, it's not necessary. Unless there is a some page somewhere about what the monsters did in the manga/anime, the individual card pages should only be about what's on the card as well as associated rulings. Robo Mike 07:23, 28 March 2007 (UTC)

Search Engine

Uh, I got bored, and the "add Yu-Gi-Oh! English" link in firefoxes search bar never worked for me, so I threw together a .src search plugin for the wikia. Does anyone like, care at all to want a copy? It's not packaged or anything, so it's just the .src and .png sitting there in the folder, but, you know. :O lolnotregisteredloldon'tknowhowtodothenamethinganyways. :>

It's easy. Just type ~~~~. Robo Mike 02:06, 30 March 2007 (UTC)

is "/" a forbidden character in file names or wiki entries?

I'm particularly referring to the Demise/Doom OTK, if it's not fine, then would someone kindly fix it? --Robo Mike 18:50, 7 April 2007 (UTC)

It's ok to use that, but if Demise existed then it would treat Demise/Doom OTK as a subpage of Demise and add an automatic backlink to Demise (which probably isn't a problem anyway). Angela talk 20:29, 7 April 2007 (UTC)

Hey guys, I want to change the Demise/Doom OTK page into the Advanced Ritual Art OTKs page, since I've heard of a couple more easy-to-do ones. Is there a way to rename wiki files? --Robo Mike 17:29, 22 April 2007 (UTC)

Well, you can always move the page in question, which would preserve its page history as well as leaving a redirect so there aren't any resulting redlinks... --Dinoguy1000 What?I did it! 01:21, 20 October 2007 (UTC)
I think the same goes for "#". AnnaV 22:11, 2 January 2008 (UTC)

OVER PRICED CARDS

Yeah! I know I come from a time when STAR WARS cards were 25 cents a pack and you got that pink powdered stick of gum to go with it. True times have changed and with that so do prices unfortunaly - still I think most - well a good 90% anyway will agree when I say that todays prices are to much for so little when it comes to paying for a pack of cards these days - well where I am - the currant price is $4 a pack of cards. In the long run I do not really think I would mind paying these prices for my boys collection except that - for 1 - you dont even get the chance to fully come close to completing a full set before another card set comes out and they stop and throw on the new collection coming out - for example - the PGD or MFC or the late great LBO series. I also would not mind paying an outragous price niether if they the company wasnt so cheap to put more cards in a deck when bought and paid for - well for these outragous prices for a deck that costs them only about 20 cents to make a card - its like buying a bag of chips - you get a couple chips in the bag and the rest is all air - Well I hope the spirit will awaken in those that put out these YU-GI-OH cards and lower their prices - otherwise they will see as they are now a decline in sales and YU-GI-OH die hards. True the only way they are staying in game is comming out with at times a new card here and there to keep the gamers somewhat happy, other than that its the same cards borrowed unto the next deck. Collecting YU-GI-OH is getting to expensive of a hobby to pay and not fair enough in getting the cards people need and want for their decks.I am for sure if the price was downsized a dollar - which these card companies can live with - there would be an explosive new generation of Yu-GI-OH card collectors projecting there market more skyward than ever before. So in short I say to the card companies DONT! BE CHEAP! if you want us collectors - lower the price - add a few extra cards - and distribute the cards to a longer life on the shelfs or feel youre market drop in size - and dont forget the pink stick of gum. If you agree drop a line - [email protected]

  • My friends and I print the cards and stick it on crappy cards of which we have a million+++ copies and build our decks that way, just for fun. I have a shiny deck though. :P LeviLeviathan 18:51, 23 February 2009 (UTC)

Making the wiki more professional

In order to make this wiki more professional, we must prevent the use of Duelist lingo throughout the pages. Number one, Duelist lingo does not accurately describe the mechanics of the game. These terms include KO, killing, and such. On another computer my attempts to clean this up have been severely attacked. Will anyone help me out? While in a duel between two Duelists who know most all of the cards used, informal terms can be fun. However, in a wiki, we must be more formal. --74.194.118.12 21:14, 17 April 2007 (UTC)

  • Does being formal make it easier for "Duelists" to understand it? I mean chances are yes it should be more "Formal" but does that really help people who try to understand the game? Dmaster 22:35, 7 March 2008 (UTC)

Destiny Heroes

The Destiny Hero page has recieved a lot of my contributions. However, other users have been reverting my most recent revisions to my own description of the cards, particularly about the British culture references in the cards. If you must revise the page, get rid of most of the description and start from scratch. If no one likes this, I will revise the subject back to it's most simple of description. I will then consider reverting back to my old revisions plageurism, and therefore I will file a law suit. --74.194.118.12 21:25, 17 April 2007 (UTC)

By submitting anything, you already agreed to the GFDL (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/GFDL) and already assume that anything you submitted is not copyrighted. Did you read the bottom of the text box when you make an edit? No one takes credit for anything in the wiki. And "If you don't want your writing to be edited mercilessly and redistributed at will, then don't submit it here." You can't sue and will probably lose if you do.

Granted, you are right about the British references.

Oh yeah, I removed the reference to the Neo-Spacians because I feel they are are irrelevant and don't relate to the D-Heroes or even the E-Heroes themes for the most part. --Robo Mike 09:57, 22 April 2007 (UTC)

    • Yeah. Hate to break it to you 74.194.118.12, but no-one owns copyright to anything they submit here. Not even me, and I started the template system!. Anything submitted here is done for the good of the community, and is free for anyone to take, redesign, and resumbit.--TwoTailedFox (My Talk Page) 11:11, 22 April 2007 (UTC)

The Cyber Dragon article was getting old - Dark Flare Knight

Separate documentation and pics for alternate arts?

I thought it might be interesting to make a list of alternate art cards, and potentially provide pics for each distinct art. Any takers?

  • I'm all for making a list of Alt. Art cards, and we already plan to document -every- Artwork/Rarity as a matter of completeness here.--TwoTailedFox (My Talk Page) 23:54, 19 May 2007 (UTC)
  • Nice. I found out recently that the G5 variant of Big Shield Gardna is considered an alt. art version of the card, though its only difference is in the rays of light in the background. I noticed this thanks in part to Tag Force GX for the PSP, in which you are able to collect alternate card arts in exchange for your GX medals in part 3. I will list anything else I discover.
  • Found the alternate art page, and made a few additions to the list. Also removed Soul of the Pure, which falls under edited cards.

About Insect Deck

Hello, I think the article about insect deck is not very good.

DNA Surgery + Insect Barrier + Insect Queen + Insect Princess is absolutely ineffective. Insect Queen and Insect Princess have really low ATK, and their effects totally depend on DNA Surgery. Without DNA Surgery, they cannot do nothing.

DNA Surgery + Insect Barrier is also very weak. You will use 6 places for those cards in your deck, and not sure about to get each of them every time. Even you have DNA Surgery + Insect Barrier on your side of field, your opponent can very easily destroy one of them.

If you make your insect deck like this, you will surely lose.

The best way to build up a pure Insect Deck is to use Howling Insect + Ultimate Insect LV3, and Pinch Hopper + Brain Crusher. Insect Imitation, Doom Dozer, Chainsaw Insect, Insect Knight, Swarm of Locusts, and Swarm of Scarabs are all great choices. I know it, because I already tried all of the Insect Combos.

Can I make a big change at the page of Insect Deck?

Thank you very much.

Message Board

Users of the Yu-gi-oh Wikia: I have thought of an idea which will make this wiki WAY better; A message board! Did you guys ever consider, maybe, organizing the card pages a little better? They're all kinda just dumped into the TCG and OCG ones. Why not organize them into sub-cats by expansion pack? Jjust a suggestion.

Phantom Darkness

The pack Phantom Darkness needs to be updated it has stayed thtat way for a long time.

i have found some new cards that are possible to be in there, King-Mist, Chimeratech Fortress Dragon, and Phantom Gunner. There Are also rumors that, Cybernetic Fusion Support, Power Wall, and Cyber Vary will be in this pack.

Thank you and please update soon.

Specualtion on what will be in packs isn't adknowledged here. Big Boss 0 14:32, 14 September 2007 (UTC)

where do u get the cards from this pack from whcih site?

Wiki Improvement Ideas

I've taken a short look around the wiki and noted a few things that could be improved (^_^ of course I'm willing to help somewhat with fixing them); I signed in all the sections and left a line in between them so you can feel free responding inline just indenting another level from me.

Forums
I see that this wiki has an external forum. However it is not easily known, and it only has a grand total of 1 topic with 2 posts and only 2 registered users to discuss things. It's always good to have a place to discuss the general things about the wiki other than the Main Page's Talkpage. There are 2 options that work here on Wikia; The old DPL Forums, and the new phpBB Forums. Both of them are enabled for use with WikiText (So you can actually use an internal link which works locally when you are discussing a page), and both of them use a user's already existing user account so people don't need to log in to 2 locations with 2 different accounts just to discuss the wiki. And the phpBB still has the feel of being a real forum. You can see the DPL Forums in use on central at w:Forum:Index and the new phpBB Forums on Inside and Runescape (here and here). It's quite possible to set up either of these systems for use here. ~NOTASTAFF Daniel Friesen-local (DanTMan, Nadir Seen Fire) (talk|local) Sep 16, 2007 @ 02:52 (UTC)
Main Page
Blatantly put the Main Page is extremely large, crowded (code wise and visually), unorganized, and definitely needs improvement. There are a few interesting ideas to fix them:
  • Wikia has a new TabView Extension that one of the Techs created. It's possible to separate the Main Page's areas by tabs, that way instead of scrolling around the Main Page you can flick through tabs to the section that you actually want.
    • Another note about this Tab System, is that it can actually do AJAX requests for tabs. So it's possible for it to only load one tab on the page load, and load the other tabs when people need them. With that being the case, the large main page wouldn't be loaded unless the person wanted all of it.
  • It's also possible to split up all of the Main Page into other pages. So only the layout is located on the Main Page. That way the page code is easier to read and edit. It also means that if a large vandal attack comes by it's possible to protect the Main Page without removing the ability to edit it because the individual parts can still be edited by everyone. ~NOTASTAFF Daniel Friesen-local (DanTMan, Nadir Seen Fire) (talk|local) Sep 16, 2007 @ 02:52 (UTC)
Ruby
Using the ruby markup is an interesting idea for putting out readable Japanese characters. But looking over the support of it... It's not a proper standard yet and I checked the 4 major browser rendering engines (Rendering Engines are what determine how a Browser displays something, so even though IE and AOL are 2 different browsers, they use the same engine so they render the same...) One natively supports it, one needs an extension installed to work, and the other 2 don't support it at all. In fact, if you're running on a mac, you need to install a browser and and extension just to be able to see the ruby text. Which means that the fair fraction of users who could quite possibly be reading from a School Mac which only has Safari and they do not have the ability to install Firefox and add an Extension to it can't properly read the site. Remember that wikis should be readable by all people without unfair or favored standards.
Then to add onto that, the <rbc></rbc> and <rtc></rtc> tags are not supported. So a bad form of syntax is used here. This bad syntax works bad for selecting. If you go to Sparks in either Firefox with the Extension or IE (Though it's easier to notice in Firefox cause IE doesn't show you the problem as well) when you try to select just the base text, or the ruby text you can't properly select them and copy them, it tries to copy the other text and ends up screwing it all up.
And finally, the code is long, and hard to read. It messes up the readability of the WikiText and makes it harder to read and write the Japanese text when there's a mistake in it.
But, I'm not saying to completely ditch the idea of using something that has as nice a presentational output as ruby. In fact, I think it can be improved even more. I'm part of Wikia's Volunteer Tech team (^_^ Fancy way of saying I have active contact with Wikia's Techs, and access to the Development server Wikia set up for Volunteers to help contribute code, but can't do anything about actually fixing a bug in a Wiki... lol), and I'm quite familiar with MediaWiki. It should be possible to create a nice extension that will make it easy and intuitive to add the presentational features of Ruby to code... And also make it so that it will display whether or not a person has a browser setup which supports the Ruby text.
In fact, instead of typing this:
<ruby><rb>火</rb><rp>(</rp><rt>ひ</rt><rp>)</rp></ruby>の<ruby><rb>粉</rb><rp>(</rp><rt>こ</rt><rp>)</rp></ruby>
It could be possible to type something like this:
<simpleruby><base>火の粉</base><ruby>ひ こ</ruby></simpleruby>
And have it output something that uses ruby when the person has a ruby enabled browser, and also have a fallback that still renders the same even when in a browser which does not support ruby.
I'd be happy to discuss the syntax, create the extension, and have the Techs install it on Wikia. In fact, it's probably the type of extension that would fit nicely on MediaWiki.org's list of extensions and have a place installed globally on Wikia for other wiki to use. ~NOTASTAFF Daniel Friesen-local (DanTMan, Nadir Seen Fire) (talk|local) Sep 16, 2007 @ 02:52 (UTC)
I drafted up a comparison of possible output formats here with details on them. ~NOTASTAFF Daniel Friesen-local (DanTMan, Nadir Seen Fire) (talk|local) Sep 16, 2007 @ 05:18 (UTC)
I've done some more research into ruby, and there's an interesting style sheet that may help. The more advanced features of Ruby markup aren't supported, but the CSS basically makes ruby markup render correctly in all browsers. The markup used needs to be fixed up and written correctly (if you use it in Opera when people mix ruby tags with normal text it has some bad results) So we can still output ruby without forcing users to install some extension for Firefox or use IE. But we use WikiTables to make tables easier to read and use, the * ; : and # give us simple lists and indents, etc... So I still feel that a extension to give ruby a more intuitive interface should be created. So I'd like to discuss ideas for the markup that could be used. Remember a few things; WikiText does not require that everything be XML markup. So unlike in HTML we can give a more visual feel to the code used to create the ruby text. Here are a few ideas because my previous one has a few issues to it. These ideas just place a set of syntax in between two <simpleruby></simpleruby> tags. Everything placed in between those will be handled by the extension as MediaWiki normally dictates. So what type of markup or whatever we use inside could be anything, plain text or markup based without having issues.
In this idea we give it a multi-line feel. The top line will be used as the ruby text, and the lower line will be the base. Using |'s separates the characters so that multiple ruby text characters can be used for one of the ones below. As shown in the examples, we can ignore whitespace at the start and end so that we can still line things up.
<simpleruby>
ひ| |こ
火|の|粉
</simpleruby>
In this idea we write out the text, and place the ruby text inside of [brackets], we could use (brackets) though if we want, but remember that this in input, not output. The markup could use another set of brackets if we wanted them to. Or we could simply state in the extension that anything inside of brackets such as (), [], {}, or <> should be the ruby-text for a ruby base outside. Although it does work for multi-character ruby-texts, it may need markup tweaks to work for multiple character ruby-bases.
<simpleruby>火[ひ]の粉[こ]</simpleruby>
Or going with the bracket scheme, ruby-bases could be placed inside of [square brackets] with ruby-texts inside of (round braces). Characters without braces would be treated as normal characters, but still rendered inside of ruby markup so that they don't end up lined up differently. It's a little longer and less viewable, but it does support multi-character ruby-bases.
<simpleruby>(火)[ひ]の(粉)[こ]</simpleruby>
Remember with these that it is also possible to use mode or other attribute in the XML tag around them to make it so that multiple type of syntaxes can be used. ~NOTASTAFF Daniel Friesen-local (DanTMan, Nadir Seen Fire) (talk|local) Sep 16, 2007 @ 12:07 (UTC)
Wiki Customization
Judging by the few edits to the MediaWiki: namespace (The sidebar isn't even customized), the out of date Show/Hide (that CSS isn't even needed anymore), the fact that Monobook.(js|css) is used instead of Common.(js|css) where it should be, that the site's JS is hotlinking to Wikipedia and other Wikimedia projects and contains useless code (^_^ And also says Wikipedia in the Tooltips in the CSS page containing JS), and the fact that there is JavaScript on a CSS page O_o, that there is no-one in this project which has much experience with customizing MediaWiki or working with JavaScript or CSS.
I'd be happy to fix various things. Such as migrating JS to where it belongs, adding up to date scripts that work correctly, etc... ^_^ I could even customize the skins for the wiki and give it a nice color-scheme. Also, the EditTools are a little tall, I have a script used in Wikia ACG which gives the ability for a user to collapse the inside of the EditTools box and that'll persist across pages for them. I could install that here to. ~NOTASTAFF Daniel Friesen-local (DanTMan, Nadir Seen Fire) (talk|local) Sep 16, 2007 @ 02:52 (UTC)
Images
Some of the images, such as Image:Dark.gif are of fairly low quality. I do know of a good SVG artist, if you want I could request that he create some Free licensed images which will look better than those, be able to scale up without lowering quality, and won't cause the issue of a having poorly rationale use of Fair use which probably wouldn't stand up in a court. ~NOTASTAFF Daniel Friesen-local (DanTMan, Nadir Seen Fire) (talk|local) Sep 16, 2007 @ 02:52 (UTC)

I'd be very happy to have a phpBB installation local to this Wikia.--TwoTailedFox (My Talk Page) 16:58, 16 September 2007 (UTC)

Ok, when I see TOR_CNR on IRC I'll point him to that message and have him enable it for use here. (TOR_CNR is the tech team member who normally shows up in IRC and handles things like this.) ~NOTASTAFF Daniel Friesen-local (DanTMan, Nadir Seen Fire) (talk|local) Sep 17, 2007 @ 05:19 (UTC)
I notified TOR_CNR, but it looks like you'll half to wait a bit until they fix a bug in the forums that makes permissions not work right. ~NOTASTAFF Daniel Friesen-local (DanTMan, Nadir Seen Fire) (talk|local) Sep 17, 2007 @ 18:44 (UTC)

Main Page

I'm open to anything that can reduce the size of it, while providing easy access to the information contained therein. If you're willing to explain how the TabView functionality works, I'm sure a few of us can lend a hand.--TwoTailedFox (My Talk Page) 16:58, 16 September 2007 (UTC)

Ok, since you like the idea I'll look up the TabView syntax and start to draft a new Main Page as a subpage. ~NOTASTAFF Daniel Friesen-local (DanTMan, Nadir Seen Fire) (talk|local) Sep 17, 2007 @ 05:19 (UTC)
It appears that the TabView extension that the Tech team member created only does AJAX stuff, so it's not fallback safe if someone doesn't have JavaScript. But since it's all JS, I could easily create a TabView system that works kinda like how the Show/Hide works. I actually made one before using the same YUI that Wikia is using, it just needs some tweaks because I made that one actually dynamically load the YUI scripts needed. Wikia loads them all at once. ~NOTASTAFF Daniel Friesen-local (DanTMan, Nadir Seen Fire) (talk|local) Sep 17, 2007 @ 18:44 (UTC)

Ruby

It wasn't my idea to use it, but I classed it as acceptable. True, it's not an open standard (Firefox lacking native support for it, for example), however I did recall reading it's being incorporated in Firefox with it's next major release.

If you can develop an extension to install across Wikia, I have a feeling we wouldn't be the only ones to benefit.--TwoTailedFox (My Talk Page) 16:58, 16 September 2007 (UTC)

Ok, when the phpBB Forum is installed I'll start a thread for discussing the syntax for it. I'll also try to incorporate the CSS file that enables ruby in most browsers into the extension. ~NOTASTAFF Daniel Friesen-local (DanTMan, Nadir Seen Fire) (talk|local) Sep 17, 2007 @ 05:19 (UTC)

Wikia Customization

This Wikia was created before Monobook.css was made obsolete, I was only recently informed when looking at MetaWiki. As for the customizing the sidebar, I tried once when this Wikia was created, failed, and haven't attempted since. Any help on that is appreciated.

As for tossed up/obsolete code in Common.css/js, again, I'd be appreciative of any help that can be given there. The show/hide code I'd actually like to isolate, and have it easily copyable for use elsewhere (I have another project which would benefit from it). With Edittools, I'd appreciate any improvement to it.--TwoTailedFox (My Talk Page) 16:58, 16 September 2007 (UTC)

Ok, we could look over the css and js to see what's there that you actually want. As for the Show/Hide Wikia ACG actually keeps it in a isolated location. Anime:MediaWiki:ShowHide.js, that one is actually an upgraded version which works for spans and fieldsets in addition to the normal divs. (span for inline show/hide, and fieldset so special pages can use them if coded to) Though I'll probably need sysop to change anything. I can customize the sidebar for you, first thing I'll probably do is add a link to the new forum when it's setup. Actually, take a look at the sidebar used on the Animepedia, Narutopedia and a few of the other Wikia ACG projects, we use a sort of Sitename/Community type sidebar which splits up things which readers are interested in, with things that are useful to the editors. ~NOTASTAFF Daniel Friesen-local (DanTMan, Nadir Seen Fire) (talk|local) Sep 17, 2007 @ 05:19 (UTC)
Thanks for the Sysop flag, I'll look over the stuff later and clean out what's not needed and fix some stuff up. Feel free to ask me for any special thing you want done with the CSS/JS. ~NOTASTAFF Daniel Friesen-local (DanTMan, Nadir Seen Fire) (talk|local) Sep 17, 2007 @ 18:44 (UTC)
Not that I'm actually contributing anything to this conversation, but I felt compelled to point out that Monobook.css was never rendered obsolete by Common.css (and are you sure you actually mean Monobook.css? Common.css has been a part of the MediaWiki software since at least version 1.6; Common.js, however, wasn't added until version 1.9... but I digress). Common.css and Common.js contain CSS and JS code that applies across the whole wiki, regardless of a user's current skin settings, whereas Monobook.css and Monobook.js only apply when the user has the Monobook skin selected. --Dinoguy1000 What?I did it! 01:39, 20 October 2007 (UTC)
Skinname.js(ie: Monobook.js) is the one that was made obsolete by Common.js, it's depreciated because all you need to add is if( skin == 'monobook' ) {...} inside of Common.js to do anything that you would only want in Monobook.js. Use of a Skinname.js is depreciated by the developers cause they hope to remove that page in future versions. ~NOTASTAFF Daniel Friesen-local (DanTMan, Nadir Seen Fire) (talk) Oct 20, 2007 @ 03:28 (UTC)
Oh, okay, thanks for pointing that out... Just shows how much I have yet to learn about the MediaWiki software and where it's headed... ^_^;; --Dinoguy1000 What?I did it! 16:53, 20 October 2007 (UTC)

I have no knowledge of SVG creation, hence why I've never used SVG images. Any help there would be excellent.--TwoTailedFox (My Talk Page) 16:58, 16 September 2007 (UTC)

Summary

This Wikia has been operating on 'bare bones', i.e. it works, so we don't dare touch it, unless something breaks. If you're willing to give us a hand, I'm sure every contributor and admin, including myself, would be willing to lend a hand.--TwoTailedFox (My Talk Page) 16:58, 16 September 2007 (UTC)

Hmm... I can certainly see that e.g. with the templates. I have been thinking for awhile about sprucing up the templates used for card pages (and possibly combining at least some of them), but I haven't yet gotten around to experimenting any with them. --Dinoguy1000 What?I did it! 01:41, 20 October 2007 (UTC)
I've actually been, and been planning on working on some special templates. Though I've been waiting for confirmation on the project joining in with Wikia ACG. Truth is I've put a lot into the templates in Wikia ACG, so much that they work better than many of the templates you'll find elsewhere, not to mention that whenever there's an issue with them I fix them. Which is kinda one of the unmentioned reasons for me wanting the wiki in the project (Other than how much it will benifit both the wiki and the project). Wikia ACG is kinda like my repo of templates and special things which I've worked hard to make useful. It's kinda like a toolkit of mine that helps me make other highly useful templates and systems using better syntax or standardizing things. When it comes to complicated, complex, and very unique types of systems on Wikia I'm known well for them. One of the major comments in IRC when someone directs someone needing help to me, is "Dan can fix anything"... But I don't like fixing the same kind of things over and over, which is one of the reasons I created those systems.
Without those I can't really do much to improve the quality of the systems here, which is why I've been waiting for the joining. You won't get someone much better than me to make things better... I've started on Template:CardTable which is going to be a merger of all the tables, and with many improvements to input. But it's kinda broken at the moment because it needs some of the technical templates I've created on Wikia ACG to work right, and also because the useful css classes from Wikia ACG which make the syntax used in the template much better are not here. ~NOTASTAFF Daniel Friesen-local (DanTMan, Nadir Seen Fire) (talk) Oct 20, 2007 @ 03:54 (UTC)
Hmm... To tell the truth, I find it hard to understand why some people here have reservations about joining the ACG... If I understand correctly, even after joining, we would have the final word on how the Yu-Gi-Oh! wiki would be changed.
In any case, thanks for pointing out that card template, I'll have a look at the source and see if there's any way I can contribute to it... (oh, and by the way, do you think you could have a look at this section on my userpage and this page in my userspace and try and figure out where the 'phantom white-space' is coming from? I can't beat it out of there for the life of me... :P ) --Dinoguy1000 What?I did it! 16:53, 20 October 2007 (UTC)
It's a common mistake... When someone uses a lot of ifs in WikiTables and then things break because they need newlines... So they add a newline outside of each of the ifs. But the issue is that when you have a few of those if's which are false and don't go adding a new row, they end up adding extra newlines which create empty paragraphs in the table cells creating as you called it phantom whitespace. The trick to fix this is to not use a newline before the if, and instead use a <nowiki/> inside of the if to make it so that the newline inside of the if is rendered instead thereby making the needed newline only show up when you need the newline to add the table syntax in.
What I'm actually more disturbed by is the repeat style tags and such... I hate that kind of pointless code clutter... That's why I created my Box css class system... Because without something like that, you end up needing to overuse the style attribute. You'll notice something about a lot of my code... While it may be extremely complex, you don't see a lot of extra stuff lying around. In fact some of my most complex stuff is done in pretty small sets of code. ~NOTASTAFF Daniel Friesen-local (DanTMan, Nadir Seen Fire) (talk) Oct 21, 2007 @ 10:20 (UTC)
Hmm... That's an interesting (if not very technical) issue... I'll have to try and keep it in mind from now on. ;)
Yeah, I have to agree with you on that... If I could just cut out all of the "common" CSS from my templates, I'd estimate it'd cut the size by at least a fourth... In any case, what I dislike the most is the fact that I have to have my table row code repeated twice, since there's no way (that I'm aware of) to do inline Boolean logic with ParserFunctions. Once you get past that, though, the template is (IMHO) quite simple and straightforward. --Dinoguy1000 What?I did it! 17:29, 22 October 2007 (UTC)

Zane's Wikia

someone needs to change Zane's Wikia in the Underworld deck he doesn't use 2 Power Bond or 2 De-Fusion He also doesn't use 2 Cyber End Dragon he uses these cards in his first deck. The deck names are wrong his first deck is a Cyber Dragon Deck his second is correct. Thank you

Sister Sites!?

What's with the "Sister Sites" part on the Main Page? It's completely invalid.

With the exception of the German Yu-Gi-Oh! Wiki none of those wiki link back or even acknowledge the existence of the English Yu-Gi-Oh! Wiki, aren't Wikia wiki, and aren't made by the same people, therefore this wiki isn't even affiliated with them, so they couldn't even be considered affiliates much less sister sites. The only real term that can be used is "Similar wiki" or "Related wiki", the current box there makes it look as if the wiki are affiliated with each other or moreover have some sort of common ownership which is completely false. ~NOTASTAFF Daniel Friesen-local (DanTMan, Nadir Seen Fire) (talk) Oct 5, 2007 @ 07:55 (UTC)

Adding Yu-Gi-Oh GX Tag Force 2 for PSP on the main page?

How can I edit the Media Category and add Yu-Gi-Oh!_GX_Tag_Force_2 next to the one ???

I can not seem to get Plasma Eel copied to the Anime and Manga appearances.

It wasn't there and I went through a lot of trouble to make the page, only to discover that it was allready made, it just wasn't in the Anime and Manga appearances section. I tried to move it, but it for some reason it did not not work. Can somebody please fix this?

Destroyed as a Result of Battle not important?

Destroyed as a Result of Battle is one of the primary fundamentals of the game, yet the mechanics are not important enough to mention as a page, apparently. I just have one simple question: why?

SpellCaster Combo

Ok my friend gave me this card called "magician's valkyria" the effect of magician's valkyria, doesn't let you target another spell caster monster for an attack,. So I summoned "dark magician" which is another spell caster and equiped him with "ring of magnetism", which makes it so that the only monster your opponent can target to attack is the monster equiped with "ring of magnetism" I am wondering if i can do this combo, or will both effects cancel each other out. Odds of Getting a UltraRare or SecretRare

how high is the % for getting a UltraRare or Secret Rare from a booster pack?

Do they put them in randomly?

Or is it like every other pack they put 1 in?

cause i've been trying to get a "dark magician of chaos" from "invasion of chaos"

Ebay is great for this.

When I went to the SOI sneak preview, I learned that. In each box, the right pile fourth one down will have and Ultra rare. They pack them in order in a box. It depends on how they stock them in a store.--Blade69100 18:36, 11 July 2008 (UTC)

Listing cards by type

Why are you guys taking down all the pages that list every dragon monster or every earth attribute monster (for example) and replacing them with a general overview and 'Noticable' cards from that group?

I want a list of every rock monster as I am trying to make a decent defense/rock deck and a 'general overview' and 20 'commonly seen cards' just isn't that helpful.

I bet the spell and trap card lists will be gone soon, and replaced with 'Noticable' cards from each type, showing like 10 or so from the possible hundreds there are.

Don't worry, just be patient, we're getting a type of a search, so you will be able to search for all cards of a specific Type, Attribute, ATK, DEF, Level, property, etc. or combinations them. -- Deltaneos 12:47, 22 November 2007 (UTC)
Thanks for the clarification, its been like this for a while now and I've slowly watched all the useful pages disappear so I was getting a little concearned. Any idea when it will be available? To my knowledge there is not way for my to get a list of all the rock monsters ATM, so I cannot truly build my deck, or is there?

sooooo, who is excited about the new structure decki think it is great, sure, it kills the rairt of monarchs but we get 6 in one deck, though, it is a shame now that gaius comes along, he practically shadows zaborg....literally. course, zaborg has been shadowed by the Raiza but now it just adds to the injury, like getting a papercut and then putting lemon juice on it really. having all the monarchs provides a vast vat of strategies, and it is interesting as now with gaius in the play, there is a monarch fusion, go to my talk if you can guess what it is. --BrokenHeart15

  • Provided Monarchs don't die out as a result of us getting Light and Darkness Dragon, I think it's a safe bet that if/when we get this, Raiza and Gaius are going to be the new standard Monarch setup. Of course, that's working off of TWO assumptions there...and we all know what happens when you assume. XP --Wilren

Hullo there! You obviously know the MP is long, but still ... woah. That's long :) Perhaps it could be split into portals for the different topics? You have such an amazing amount of content on this wiki, and I worry that newbies might be turned off by having to scroll so much.
You may be interested in stealing some code from the Wikia Starter wiki which is the current new wiki base design, but I realise that may not be up to the job of everything you cover. In any case, keep up the great work! Kirkburn (talk) 21:43, 5 February 2008 (UTC)

  • I definitely like the idea of a "Portal" system, but I'd like someone who is experienced in such matters to design one for us.--TwoTailedFox (My Talk Page) 21:45, 5 February 2008 (UTC)

Does a german version of this wiki exist?

Did someone shorten it? If they did, and my eyes aren't deceiving me, it's much better now :) Also, I just increased the protection of the Main Page to prevent IPs editing it, since a lot of vandalism seemed to be coming from them. Kirkburn (talk) 19:36, 20 March 2008 (UTC)

Suggestions for changes

Im no programmer but this wiki needs some policy and changes to it, heres some suggestions:

1)Stop and do not delete talk page entries, dont even matter how bad it is. Create pages as archives to move old talks there

2)There's no page to discuss changes.

3)Stop protecting pages from being edit. Create a history folder, anytime a page (other than a talk page) has been maliciously edited, go to back as it was, I mean access the history folder, go to the last time the page was edited before it was maliciously edited and revert back to that state.

4)Enforce sanctions instead of deleting talk pages anytime a rule is broking. Example, ban I.P. or user for a certain amount of time.

5)There's no page to group cards that fall in a certain category, for example, Destroy monster card page, destroy spell/trap card page, remove from play page, gemini monsters page, etc.

Maybe there's more suggestions for changes, for now I know this ones. Don't know if some suggestion are already in the wiki, either way, thanks for reading.--CyberDarkEdge 19:35, 1 April 2008 (UTC)

  • You do realize half this stuff has been talked about before right? Dmaster (Contribs Count) 19:39, 1 April 2008 (UTC)
  • OK, here's my response:
    • 1. The less Useless pages, the less our current database size is.
    • 2. People can debate changes on Talk Pages, we don't delete that.
    • 3. This is the easiest way to do it, and it's why we have the protect feature in the first place.
    • 4. We do that for more serious offenses; IPs we ban, registered users we warn three times, then ban.
    • 5. As I have stated previously, we have plans for that, but it will take a while to implement it. Be patient.--TwoTailedFox (My Talk Page) 19:49, 1 April 2008 (UTC)
  • I contacted TwoTailedFox with the e-mail of lembem59 and showed him something i am working on and it is close to the group page suggested.

Storyline Confusion of Yu-Gi-Oh!, Yu-Gi-Oh!:Duelist/Duel Monsters, and Yu-Gi-Oh!:Millennium World.

Why did Mr. Kazuki Takahashi create two interpretations of the Yu-Gi-Oh! mainstream franchise? Ex: Yugi completes Millennium Puzzle at home in the book, but in the anime of season 0 (Yu-Gi-Oh!), Yugi completes it on scholl grounds? WTF?! 207.74.196.20 15:46, 5 April 2008 (UTC)

Anime-based mangas tend to rewrite setions. Hypothetically Yu-Gi-Oh! has three parallel universes, the manga, Toei's anime series and NAS' anime series. They have the same characters and basic storyine, but not all events from one series are said to have happened in the others. The manga univese is the original one intended by Kazuki Takahashi. The first series was edited and had sections added, removed and changed for how Toei considered it should be presented on TV. After NAS started producing the anime they also changed things to how they thought it would be better presented and added extra (filler) storylines. The English language anime, by 4Kids is based on the Japanese anime by NAS, and is close to it in overall storyline. -- Deltaneos 16:05, 5 April 2008 (UTC)

Wikia Gaming IRC channel

Hullo! I am Kirkburn, your friendly local Wikia Gaming Helper!

You may be interested to know there is a Wikia gaming IRC channel, #wikia-gaming on chat.freenode.net, where you can hop on, ask for help from users of other gaming wikis, or offer your own experiences. If you are not familiar with IRC clients, you can access it from http://irc.wikia.com/gaming.

Different people may be on sporadically, but we organize weekly chats at a fixed time so we can get the most number of people online at the same time to ask and answer questions, or just to hang out. The admins of some of Wikia's biggest gaming wikis (e.g. WoW, Halo) often attend them. You can find the time for the next chat by following this link. Template:W:Next gaming IRC chat

The Monaco Skin is actually a -lot- more functional than the Monobook Skin, and it matches our colour scheme a lot better than just plain white.--TwoTailedFox (My Talk Page) 13:30, 11 April 2008 (UTC)
Pretty much agree with Fox. It's visually better and more suited to viewers who are here to read rather than edit. Changing skins for registered users isn't a problem, so there is no real reason to revert to monobook. -- Deltaneos 13:36, 11 April 2008 (UTC)
It is pretty cool, I like to set those skins at times, but it takes hours to load the site, which makes much harder the navigation. --Dragon Slayer (Contribs Count) 03:38, 17 April 2008 (UTC)

Optimizing the usage of DPL

Hi folks, I'm PanSola, a Wikia Helper. I am dropping by to chat about DPL (Dynamic Page List) usage practices. This site is among one of the most popular Wikia wikis that use a large number of DPL calls, and as DPL queries can sometimes pose quit a load on the servers, being careful with the usage of DPL can help improve the general user experience at Wikia.

One of the most simple ways to reduce the demand of DPL on the servers is to enable caching of the results. The more often a page with DPL calls get viewed, the greater the effect caching has. And so on a popular wiki such as this one, enabling caching is likely to help reduce the server load quite a bit.

Unfortunately there is a downside: caching means the results won't immediately update when information on the wiki changes. Sometimes the information can be out of sync by several hours. If you are worried about technical accuracy, you can place a note warning the visitors "new changes may not be updated immediately". For mission-critical usages of DPL that are time-sensitive such that any delay is unacceptable, enabling caching wouldn't be a good idea.

I'll drop by again later with more tips on how to improve server performance via optimizing DPL usage. If you have any questions, concerns, or think it's a good idea but need help implementing the change, feel free to discuss here. If you need a fast response from me, please ping me on my talk page (but still keep the main discussion here, so everything is in one place). Thanks. (you can also check out more tips here). -User:PanSola(talk/history) 21:32, 24 April 2008 (UTC)

Hi all, just dropping by to bump the conversation a bit, and making sure you guys are ok with me dropping suggestions here (-: -User:PanSola(talk/history) 18:30, 5 May 2008 (UTC)
The changes to DPL should have a minimal on this Wikia, as far as I know, the only DPL queries we have are used for testing, thus caching wouldn't do very much anyway. As long as the data is updated within 24 hours, it'll be ok. As for any other users, "Speak up now or forever hold your peace".--TwoTailedFox (My Talk Page) 21:14, 8 May 2008 (UTC)
For reference, here is a list of pages using DPL, compiled not too long ago (not sure if it is up-to-date):
I guess for the templates that are synced by Dantman's bot, I'd need to talk to Dantman about removing them (otherwise they'd just get "reverted" by the bot anyways).
On a different note, I would advocate the usage of /doc sub-pages for template documentation, and transclude the documentation inside NOINCLUDE tags. The main advantage is a clear separation of editing templates vs editing the documentation (when looking at RC or watchlist, as some ppl don't use sectional edits). This general practice also means it is possible to protect a high-impact template while still letting the documentation be editable by the common people.
Anyways, if you have any questions/comments, feel free to give me a ping! -User:PanSola(talk/history) 23:52, 12 May 2008 (UTC)
Eh? Infoboxes with DPL....... Oh, right... The DPL there is merely used for listing the Infobox subpages (ie: Listing the /Animanga, /Character, etc... On {{Infobox}}, and the sub boxes on the master Infobox/* pages. Those are all inside of noincludes and shouldn't be having any effect. However if you want, you can hop over to the Animepedia and edit the templates there to include the caching parameter. Next time I sync templates will be when the Negima! Wiki joins Wikia ACG... Well in the technical sense, I got the ok from the founder, I just need to talk to sannse about a few flags and config tweaks.
As for the ones in my Userspace, those are just lists for various purposes like tracking the use of pages incorrectly using CardTable instead of CardTable2, etc... No-one views them so the servers aren't being hit by them. Oh, though you can add caching to the ArchiveList over at Animepedia.
And lastly, for the use of /doc subpages. That's on my ToDo list, basically a redesign of my shared template pages. I'll be making a few templates for use of the /doc system and making that global along with some CSS.
^_^ All my modern stuff uses SMW in place of DPL. DPL is only used for what it is named for, page lists... ~NOTASTAFF Daniel Friesen (DanTMan, Nadir Seen Fire) (talk) Jul 2, 2008 @ 17:03 (UTC)

Idea!

I think that it would be a really useful addition to card articles if there was a section on good strategies against the card. It could be a similar type of page to the tips and trivia pages, with a link from the actual card article. It could be called 'Tactics' or something similar. I know this could mean a bit of work, but all that would need doing would be creating the page/link, and other users could sort out the actual stuff. Well, thanks for reading my suggestion, and I hope it's useful in some way. Clockwork-Artichoke 15:49, 3 May 2008 (UTC)

  • well, I think those startegies are on the cards that are used against the other cards tips page (Tactis=tips page of opposing cards). Dmaster (Contribs Count) 21:52, 8 May 2008 (UTC)

How to edit the "Appearences" table

How do I edit the table that shows what anime, games, ect that a card appears in. I looked it edit and can't find it. HammerMuffin 05:48, 10 May 2008 (UTC)

The show/hide features on the card template

In my opinion, hiding the card information in the template is more cumbersome than helpful. Generally people won't read the card image's text first. The text on several cards have been fixed and haven't had an updated version, as an example. I don't think the show/hide features on the template are clever enough to be added, as the card template doesn't seem to have excess information that needs to be hidden unless the viewer wants to read it. --74.194.118.203 03:17, 16 May 2008 (UTC)

Issues with the abbreviation MST

The information in an encyclopedia isn't meant to be given in a casual form. MST is a casual abbreviation for Mystical Space Typhoon that has never been officially embraced as even a de facto term. MST should only be noted in the Trivia section, and shouldn't be used to explain card combos and so forth. I stress once more, it is just too casual to use such an abbreviation. Things like OTK is kind of ignorable, because it isn't in any way connected to an official name or term, as Mystical Space Typhoon is. Can anyone help me clean up MST? --74.194.118.203 12:21, 16 May 2008 (UTC)

Hey TwoTailedFox

Can you get rid of that little text that appears in the search bar, "Search Yu-Gi-Oh!..."? It didn't always use to be there and now its main purpose is just to stall me for a few seconds every time I need to search something out. I mean, this is a wiki, it's pretty obvious you can search for things with the little bar on the left.

  • Can't be done, at least, not until they make it customizable in later MediaWiki/Monaco revisions.--TwoTailedFox (My Talk Page) 11:00, 19 June 2008 (UTC)

Catagorize by type?

When I first came to this site, there was this feature where all the monsters were catagorized by type. I thought that was really neat. However, the next day I found that someone just went and deleted those catagory pages! If someone would be willing to re-catagorize monsters by type, I would be eternally gratified.70.18.226.100 18:50, 12 June 2008 (UTC)

About translating

In the main page it says you are looking for finnish card names. I live in Finland, we use english TCG cards here, and english names in anime/manga. Do we just translate what the names mean? I could do that if I had the strength to edit 1000 different pages... Peitenimi 09:16, 13 June 2008 (UTC)

Yeah, if no official Finnish names exist, we can only add translations. Can I ask a question first? Do you think people would benefit from this site including them? -- Deltaneos (talk) 09:54, 13 June 2008 (UTC)

Flag of Singapore?

Why does the Anime Name category of the card table have the flag of Singapore? -- Melik el-Al'ab 15:13, 16 June 2008 (UTC)

  • ...because Yu-Gi-Oh! airs in Singapore... Dmaster (Contribs Count) 13:55, 18 June 2008 (UTC)
    • I don't mean why the flag is there. I mean, every category of card's names has a flag. The English name has the flag of the United Kingdom, and the Japanese name has the flag of Japan, and the French name has the flag of France, etc. But one category is called "Anime" and it has the flag of Singapore. I'm asking why the Anime name is associated with Singapore. Check out Chorus of Sanctuary for example. -- Melik el-Al'ab 07:26, 19 June 2008 (UTC)
  • There is an Official Singaporean English anime, using different voice actors that 4kid, and using the original Japanese artwork. They occasionally refer to cards by different names, so we document that.--TwoTailedFox (My Talk Page) 11:00, 19 June 2008 (UTC)
    • Aha! Now I see. Thank you for clearing that up! Though I think that it should somehow be made more clear so no one would get as confused as I got. Especially since I don't follow the English Anime, so I didn't know which anime "Anime" was referring to. -- Melik el-Al'ab 16:14, 20 June 2008 (UTC)

Turkish Names Not Appearing

I've noticed that several cards have Turkish names listed in the coding, but do not actually appear on the page itself! Dark Magician, for example, has "Kara Büyücü" as his Turkish name in the page code, but it doesn't appear on the page. Is this an error? -- Melik el-Al'ab 11:26, 25 June 2008 (UTC)

  • Apparantly, the same goes for the Bulgarian, Czech, Danish, Latvian, Polish, and Romanian names. -- Melik el-Al'ab 11:36, 25 June 2008 (UTC)
  • This is a re-toling of how we look at names. We only use the most popular names on the table itself, else we start to get Name Bloat - We now includes ones like Turkish at the bottom, where you'll find ones like Irish as well every other name, regardless of inclusion on the table.--TwoTailedFox (My Talk Page) 11:40, 25 June 2008 (UTC)
  • That sounds reasonable. Thanks! -- Melik el-Al'ab 11:44, 25 June 2008 (UTC)
  • I have one question about Polish names : Who write this names ? I think that person put the EN names to google translator and think that's good. The names are terrible and at least funny. Now is the question to the person who write the names : Do you really think you can Polish ? -- Draco91 14:59, 30 July 2009 (UTC)

Approximated Tag

The tags that say "The so-and-so name given is an approximation" are becoming problematic. Some time ago, they used to be perfectly fine. But now, they go unnoticed with the addition of two more tables (one above (the appearances table) and one or two below (the archetype and Facts tables) which makes the tag crammed in the middle. I've got users adding Arabic names to cards without placing the "Approximated" tag because they don't even know it exists. I believe the tag should be placed somewhere clearer or another way of identifying approximated names should be devised. -- Melik el-Al'ab 09:17, 17 July 2008 (UTC)

Tips for beginners?

Before, tips were usually added if they were unique and used competitive thinking. However, this new thing seems to be going around where searching tips, and things to that effect are added for beginners. It has gone way too far, as the searching tips are given to cards that would make no sense to put in your hand by default. Elemental Hero Poison Rose is an example. You could put her into your hand with cards such as E - Emergency Call and Elemental Hero Stratos, but she can usually only be played by using Rose Bud, anyway. This is just one of the ways these "beginner tips" are becoming nonsense and going out of hand.

I probably shouldn't end this without suggesting something for beginners. If beginners need anything, it is card rulings. Everyone knows beginners are likely to trip up if they don't have a good sense of the game's card effect mechanics. This is why, if anything should be done for beginners, it should involve the rulings pages. Don't you agree?--74.194.118.203 03:43, 8 August 2008 (UTC)

  • You bring up a good point, but some beginners need the search tips because they may not know about search-effect cards. Bluedog187 04:14, 8 August 2008 (UTC)
  • Even that explanation only makes a little bit of sense when you are suggesting to add nonsense cards to your hand, though. --74.194.118.203 00:57, 11 August 2008 (UTC)

Vandalism 2

Seriously, someone really has to quit changing peoples' pages. People are still changing my page. Now they're saying i hate CED, but that's my favorite card. Also, they put that thing about ham up there again. It's always people that don't have accounts. These losers should be kept away from the wiki. srsly. Gemini69 09:02, 3 November 2008 (UTC)

If I'm correct, then I'll get him to stop soon. Gemini69 12:26, 4 November 2008 (UTC)

Exscuse my intrusion, but I agree. For some reason, vandalism is becomeing more and more popular. Damage Calculation?

Me and my friend got in an arguement about it, and the damage calculation page seemed to be on his side...

When a Card says "During Damage Calculation only" does the destruction of the monster continue?I made an Alien Deck, and I placed the field Spell "Otherworld- the "A" Zone", I attacked my friend' Izanami that was in Defense mode (1800)with "Alien Skull" (1600) according to A-zone, my friends Izanami would have a DEF of 1500, killing it. however he stated that that "During Damage Calculation only" meant only damage was changed, so Izanami would not be destroyed, but I wouldn't take the 200 LP damage I usually would. I think he is wrong though

could someone clear up the meaning? cuz otherwise I can't use Alien's against him because the whole point of "A" counters is to weaken your opponent's monsters enough to be able to destroy them among other things. And according to him, this site's meaning is on his side of it. Thanks! email: [email protected]

70.44.109.145 17:31, 21 December 2008 (UTC)

  • "During Damage Calculation only" is the point when players take damage and monsters get destroyed. Izanami would be destroyed in your example. The reason it specifies "Damage Calculation only" is to point out that the reduction isn't permanent. Gemini69 06:09, 30 December 2008 (UTC)

Question/suggestion

Question: Is there a standard procedure for displaying card pictures on the individual card entries?

If not:
Suggestion: a) Have the card picture be that of the original card or
Suggestion: b) Have the card picture be that of the latest printing.

a) Pro: no need to change the picture once it is posted. Con: does not show the most up-to-date version.
b) Pro: shows the most up-to-date version. Con: need to change picture every time a new version comes out.

Astromath 23:33, 4 January 2009 (UTC)

  • Yes for an individual card's article you want to have the most recent edition of the card on its page. When there is not a TCG version of the card use the most current Japanese card image. When there is a TCG print of a card then use the most recent English card image of the card for its page. And when it comes to TCG there is 1st Edition and Unlimited Edition, you would want to use the Unlimited Edition because it is a second print and is more recent than the 1st Edition. I hope this helps. Look234 02:26, 5 January 2009 (UTC)
    • I thought as much. That being the case, being the perfectionist I am, it'll be another one of those endless projects that I will start to do once my main project of building my database is done. Astromath 23:56, 8 January 2009 (UTC)

Magic → Spell question

Is PGD the only series where the word "Magic" in the 1st edition is changed to "Spell" in the unlimited edition?

P.S. Almost all the PDG card articles should have errata showing the change (a future project of mine unless someone beats me to it).

Konami's dispute with Upperdeck

Many of you must already know of the issues between Upperdeck and Konami, Konami wants the game back, Upperdeck doesnt wanna give it back because Konami is still in contract with UDE. My question here is, does anyone have anything new on this?I appreciate the discussion.

  • Me and another user have been debating the same issue, but I'm not sure if there is a straight answer at this point. You can check it out on the discussion page for Konami if you want to know more about it.--Sky Scourge God 10:00, 25 January 2009 (UTC)

Well, I am able to offer some insight on this conflict, I'd first discovered this on another forum. Just follow the link: http://www.pojo.biz/board/showthread.php?t=655543Lord of darkness 22:29, 25 January 2009 (UTC)Lord_of_darkness

Regarding the Portal Pages

It appears the Main Page contains many unnecessary information that can go into the portal section that causes the main page to load a bit more slower, perhaps we should move some information and make the portal like what it was supposed to be for?--Moneypony 05:55, 13 February 2009 (UTC)

Yes, the purpose of the portal system was to distribute the content of the Main Page and manage it better. We've made a good tab system for the portals, but we're still trying to decide an organised easy-on-the-eye way of arranging the Portal pages themselves. When we're done the Main Page will have the tab system at the top and will be visually treated like one of the Portal pages itself. -- Deltaneos (talk) 16:46, 13 February 2009 (UTC)

Doom Dozer, Anteateranteatingant, Aztekipede question

Hey guys, I need help with this problem. All three of these insect cards says that you need to remove etc., BUT it says you can special summon it to the field. The question is, can I special summon the insects from my deck and/or graveyard? Please respond! Some stupid jerks think I'm cheating! — This unsigned comment was made by 204.100.192.11 (talkcontribs) 21:20, 13 March 2009 (UTC)

No, cards that Special Summon themselves can only be Summoned from your hand using their effect, unless stated otherwise in their text. -- Deltaneos (talk) 23:31, 13 March 2009 (UTC)

DNA Surgery and DNA Surgery???

Hey I have a stupid and weird question. When an opponent plays DNA Surgery and I have DNA Surgery also, what happens?? Do our monsters bceome both of the same kind or what??

  • Whichever one's effect resolves second will overrule the first one.

Konami takeover question

With Konami taking over the TCG publication of Yu-Gi-Oh, my question is: will the editing of the card artworks cease? And will there be a more accurate translation of card names? --Astromath 03:35, 28 March 2009 (UTC)

  • I have noticed that recently, card names seem to have been more accurately translated. It might be because of this. EHeroDarkNeos 04:52, 20 May 2009 (UTC)

Spell & Trap card standardization question

Should Spell/Trap cards have a Card Effect Type listed in their entries? See Chain Summoning for an example. I've assumed that only Effect Monsters should only have a Card Effect Type. I need guidance before I go willy-nilly and delete something that I'm not supposed to. --Astromath 14:33, 29 March 2009 (UTC)

It appears that a Card Effect like "Ignition" would officially only apply to Monster Cards, with no such thing as an Ignition Spell Card. Even if the Spell Card displays an Ignition Effect, there is no official basis for naming it so, which could lead to dispute over the Effect Types of some Spell/Trap cards. And so, it would seem that Card Effect Types would indeed not be valid for Spell/Trap cards, but instead they are divided by Property. Personally, I think "Card Effect Type" should be changed to "Monster Effect Category" since they only apply to Effect Monsters' effect, which are divided into "5 categories" according to the Rulebook. -- Melik el-Al'ab 14:11, 31 March 2009 (UTC)

  • To Melik: I agree with you completely. However, the template in question is blocked from editing. How about putting up a survey to see how many users of this wiki would want this change. The survey would ask the question, "Do you want to change Card Effect Type to Monster Effect Category?" with the following choices for answers: Yes, No, Don't Care. --Astromath 23:48, 31 March 2009 (UTC)
Well, I don't have much experience with surveys, but if you think people would respond then it should be done. Of course, proper explanation of the reason for the change and the source of the new name must be included. -- Melik el-Al'ab 16:13, 6 April 2009 (UTC)

So, about that Main Page...

I'm really a huge fan of how this wikia is run, but is it really prudent to leave the message on the Main Page which describes Upperdeck's suspending of organized play without the inclusion of a similar message detailing Konami's interest in resuming organized play under their supervision? Konami has already stated that they may even add more options for tournaments to more remote areas. So should you really be leading people to believe that there will be no more organized play for the TCG?

I can't find dark paladin.

So do you know how to find one?

Anonymous contributors

Hi! I have been an anonymous editor for a few weeks now and just recently decided to make the time to join and chat for a minute. My anonymous contribution has been to correct your spelling. Whether a typo or ignorance, it looks really bad. So if I miss something I wrote...CORRECT IT!

I have gotten a lot of very useful information from this wikia and I thank all of you.

Have not joined until now, because when I have just been looking for information, I don't always have the extra time it takes.

  • Congratulations, and happy editing :) even things like spelling and punctuation help clean up the appearance of the Wikia. I often go trolling for "its/it's" errors myself xD I would be wary of editing posts in the forums; some people don't appreciate their messages being altered. But there are plenty of little spelling mistakes among official Wikia pages that can use a touch-up. Thank you for your contributions, and happy editing :)

Anime Episode Page Layouts

Personally, I think that all episodes of Yu-Gi-Oh! (first and second series) and Yu-Gi-Oh! GX should have the layout of an episode of Yu-Gi-Oh! 5D's. I find it to be better than other layouts because you don't have to annoyingly press "show" whenever you follow a link and the go back to the original page. Plus, it's more convenient for displaying episode information. Does anyone else agree with this? EHeroDarkNeos 05:01, 20 May 2009 (UTC)

Yes, they should follow the same format as 5D's episodes. Some of them already do. 5D's is just fortunate to be the most recent series, so we could make sure each episode got the correct format as its article was created. If you find an old episode without the new format, it's because nobody has changed it. You are allowed to fix them yourself. -- Deltaneos (talk) 18:07, 20 May 2009 (UTC)

Thoughts...

You know how we have the deck types pages? Wouldn't it be a good idea to... well, make them more similar to the pages on single cards, by adding links to strengths and weaknesses, or galleries, or good booster sets to buy to get compatible cards, etc? Or is that too big a task? Or is the info we'd need too vague? Or maybe some sort of 'Deckbuilding Masterclass' type thing, a user content page with deck tips and guides and things? I mean, I think it's a pretty good idea, but you guys know better than me if it's too arduous a task. Building decks is my favourite aspect of Yu-Gi-Oh, so I'd love pages like this, but... It's just a suggestion, anyway. ^^ --Clockwork-Artichoke 00:14, 26 May 2009 (UTC)

Your idea sounds good (my favorite part of the game is building decks too) but could you please elaborate? Runer5h 00:19, 26 May 2009 (UTC)Runer5h

Well, pages similar to the specific card ones, but with details on building types of deck. Such pages could be used to find out tactics for dealing with certain deck types,or how to enhance your own deck if it's similar. I just think the current pages could be more precise or something, no offense ^^ ... Actually, it'd be a bit like your user pages but more for everyone. --Clockwork-Artichoke 01:05, 26 May 2009 (UTC)

Hey I just made a powerful Insect Deck that is nearly unbeatable. But why doesn't Konami make any Insect Structure Decks? I would like to see what Konami's Insect Deck would be like.

About the Egyptian God Cards...

Hey, does anyone know if we can use the God Cards? Like say if I have one and my opponent has 1 also, can we use them in a duel? I know we can't use them for ANY tournaments. We even know what their actual special effects are.

  • Of course you can, as long as you're not playing competitively. What you do with your cards is up to you, right? Of course, it's best to establish what rules you're using before you start, as they aren't written down. --Clockwork-Artichoke 03:22, 4 June 2009 (UTC)

red eyes darkness

can i use red eyes darkness to special summon light and darkness dragon then then wait a while for him to negate some stuff then tribute him for say prime material dragon and repeat?

  • No, 'cause LaDD can't be special summoned at all (hence the "This card cannot be Special Summoned" bit >_>). --Bluedog (Talk) 02:26, 10 June 2009 (UTC)

Clean-up of the discussion page?

It appears most of the comments here are nothing related to YGO Wikia in general and most of them would fit into the forum instead. I suggest that a Admin/Mod clean this section so it would be easier to reach things that fit here.--Moneypony 01:05, 14 June 2009 (UTC)

Petition for Duel Terminal in TCG!!

Hi!

the owner of this site shadowrealms.com.br sending spreading this news!

as everyone knows now that the UDE not negotiate further relief Yugioh Konami took the game worldwide

because now there are no more excuses to justify the fact still do not have access to the letters DUEL TERMINAL because both companies (in the video game and the card game) is under the same company cointrole

However, it still does not have plans to launch the cards in Duel Terminal in the west yet.

if they can not sell the DT machines could at least sell the sets as DT Boosters have access to the letters and unpublished series (X-Saber, Frembell, Ice Bondary, etc ...)

so I was thinking of doing an application where the mandariamos emails asking for letters to Konami's Duel Terminal

now that we are a great and united community and our chance to make them hear what we want

[email protected] <[email protected]>

send an email to Konami's sentence

i am a loyal YUGIOH costumer and fan and i am sending this mail asking that the DUEL TERMINAL cards be released in the occident.

i believe that we have a equal right to use and play the duel terminal themes (x- saber, freemball, genex) like the OCG environment

please release the DUEL TERMINAL cards as boosters or boxes that can be bought in hobby stores or markets.

since KONAMI assumed the global control of the game we have been waiting for a fair and equal distribution of the card pool worldwide

thanks very much for your attention"

I have a question

i currently have an alien deck and i was thinking about the card Cosmic Fortress Gol'Gar's effect along with the card "A" Cell incubator.First i wanted to know if you can only remove 2 A-counters a turn with Gol'Gar's effect and secondly i was thinking that "a" Cell incubator combined with Gol'Gar could be used as a field destroyer because if you remove 2 a-counters from "a"Cell incubator theyre automatically replaced so you can just repeat that over until your opponent has nothing left on the field and finish them. Can you do that?

  • Cosmic Fortress Gol'gar's effect is once per turn, so you'll have to destroy the opponent's field slowly. P.S. That's an awesome combo. Gemini69 08:11, 3 August 2009 (UTC)

I love this page

I too havve an alien deck, A cell incubator only adds 1 a cell whenver an a cell is removed for a cost. Since I have 2 Gol'gars and use 2 incubators you can kill continously. Also having 2 incubators and 2 code A's out, you can synchro faster, load up the incubators and then destroy all other cards.

Can you(this wikia) put the price of the cards on their respective article???

...

  • No because the prices of the various cards is different in North America, Europe, Africa, Asia, etc, not to mention the Prices are different for the OCG and TCG Versions. so no, it is unlikely that we will add prices for cards here, cause the prices always will change~MEOW~ Might of the BIRD Empire~~ 20:09, 7 August 2009 (UTC)

I have a question

can you use limit reverse to bring back cyberdark dragon from the graveyard?

From Zeroblizzard: First of all, start a new forum (it's the correct protocol). Cyberdark Dragon's first line of effect text says "This card cannot be special summoned except by fusion summon." The answer is no. Zeroblizzard 15:33, 26 August 2009 (UTC)Zeroblizzard

SMW Problems

"Due to recent problems, the MediaWiki extension SMW has temporarily been disabled on this wiki. As a result, many pages may not function correctly. We apologize for the inconvenience."

That's appearing on every page and I was wondering if anyone knew how "temporary" it is? I've discovered that any page edited since then (at least) had been coming up with many false links, especially the card pages. I added a translation for the Japanese of a card and suddenly the page looks like all this loose code has appeared. It's happened on more pages to. I was looking at the lists of Dragon monsters, but the list is gone because of the link problems.

I'm thinking the problem lies with the SMW problem, because I noticed no problem before. I was hoping that someone with more knowledge of Wikia could look into this and find out when the coding will go back to normal.--Animemonster 04:00, 30 August 2009 (UTC)

I understand the whole not putting Orichalcos cards and those Legendary Dragons, but why isn't there those cards out yet? I want them in my Insect Deck.

returning players Hi my name is mike i have starte to play yugioh and i used to play alot like 3 years ago now i have one question what happend to polymerization

Brionic?

This has been up for a while shouldn't someone change it?--Berfomet 18:51, October 4, 2009 (UTC)

Changes

Hi! do you think these images could be changed please(better resolution or full outfits(not just face)): Chris/Lionheart/etc.,Noah,Crowler, Kagemaru(image of when older), Abidos III, Titan,. Cheers! (Robbiejennings 21:57, October 25, 2009 (UTC))

Featured Card

No offence of anything but Brionac, Dragon of the Ice Barrier has been up there for a while and i gues we're all getting a bit tired of it. I recommend Solemn Judgement as the next featured card as it was both popular in the good old days and even more popular now.

Also I wanna say we should bring back the page for the Chaos Deck as some heritage should be paid towards the Deck that supposedly made Upper Deck / Konami introduce the Ban list in the first place. This deck was considered to be the most powerful deck of it's time and if it was for the ban list it would probably be the most powerful deck now DaywalkerAA 16:53, October 29, 2009 (UTC)

I suggest something more Halloween-themed, like "Zombie World" or "Call of the Haunted". ("Pumpking the King of Ghosts" would probably be stretching it.) And change it again about a week after Halloween, so we're not out of theme. -- Deltaneos (talk) 16:39, October 29, 2009 (UTC)
Not a bad idea but lets use "Vampire Lord" which would be more in theme with halloween .......... the main page itself should be made a bit more festive. Another thought would be to use something like "Unity" or "Yu-Jo Friendship" for thanksgiving which would also be well themed with the overall intent behind thanksgiving DaywalkerAA 16:53, October 29, 2009 (UTC)
good ideas, we could also have some snow themed cards in the christmas period too. (Robbiejennings 21:05, October 29, 2009 (UTC))
It might be a bit of a stretch, but how about Lycanthrope? It's Halloween-themed and as a Ritual Monster, it and cards like it have gained loads of support lately, so there's something to write about there. Kind of. --Bluedog (Talk) 21:08, October 29, 2009 (UTC)
Alright guys we need to get too things straight
1) We need to limit our ideas so we can make a reasonable choice (because the the site is viewed by so many people).
2) We need to make a decision and stop dilly dallying around about what we should put up ::DaywalkerAA 14:56, October 30, 2009 (UTC)
Wouldn't it be a good idea to put up a poll each day for about a week so people can vote on what should be put up the following day. (Robbiejennings 17:31, October 30, 2009 (UTC))
Polls are evil. And honestly not being able to choose a card isn't the reason the Featured Card isn't changed very often. It's simply that nobody bothers/gets around to writing one. -- Deltaneos (talk) 19:48, October 30, 2009 (UTC)
We should all nominate someone to undertake this task so it can be done promptly, any suggestions (User:Deltaneos? — This unsigned comment was made by DaywalkerAA (talkcontribs) 15:15, 4 November 2009 (UTC)
Are you nominating me or asking if I have any suggestions? For suggestions, I'd say any frequent user, who hasn't wrote one before. If nobody else wants to... I guess I will. You can write it yourself if you want to. Just enter the card name here and work from there:

<createbox> prefix=Featured Card: preload=Template:Featured Card/preload default=Enter card name here buttonlabel=Start </createbox>

If you worry about doing it wrong or poorly, other users will likely make changes/improvements once it's been started anyway. And of course you don't have to start it if you don't want to. -- Deltaneos (talk) 16:05, November 4, 2009 (UTC)
A week would be too frequent ........... lets say a month 190.80.45.166 11:41, November 3, 2009 (UTC)

Ill try Chaos SorcererTapper930 18:15, November 4, 2009 (UTC)

Maybe we could extend the featured articles to include packs and decks? Ne0pets22 09:30, November 6, 2009 (UTC)

I think Van'Dalgyon should be featured. He's dark, lvl 8, a dragon, and has 2800 atk. And I suppose you could talk about his effect. He's useful in a lot of decks, so there should be plenty to say. Gemini69 08:12, November 13, 2009 (UTC)

Is there a list of all the "Featured Card" articles? I clicked "Feature Card Archive" but it simply lists which cards were featured. Is there is a list of links to all the feature card "articles" ? Petco 15:27, December 9, 2009 (UTC)

after D.D. crow is finished, how about Chaos Sorcerer. It is making a comeback today with lightsworns and blackwings

Card sets template error

The card sets template on the Main Page doesn't have all the sets! Could you please fix that? 64.12.117.78 16:16, December 12, 2009 (UTC)

P.S. Please don't delete this post. It's not spam, it's just a complaint. 64.12.117.78 16:56, December 12, 2009 (UTC)
P.P.S. The Premium Pack 2 Dark Ceremony Edition link somehow leads to the Premium Packs page! It should lead to the Premium Pack 2 Dark Ceremony page! Fix that, too, please! 64.12.117.78 17:18, December 12, 2009 (UTC)
P.P.P.S. THe "Valuable Book Promos 1-10" pages are redlinks that lead to the nonexistent "Valuable Book Promos" page and should be "Value Book Promos 1-10". Fix that, too, please! 64.12.117.78 17:39, December 12, 2009 (UTC)

deceased status on characters

Hey, (even though i don't watch YGO/GX/5Ds, i still love coming here) anyways: can we put "deceased" status on characters that have died?

The D

Age: Deceased (Japanese Version)

    Unknown Whereabouts (English Dub)

can we do something like that? --KiumaruHamachi 02:15, January 2, 2010 (UTC)KiumaruHamachi

There is one problem, some characters are not dead but thought to be, Sayer for example, of the dispute of Joey and Jesse Wheeler.--Tapper930 04:03, January 2, 2010 (UTC)

well is it apporved? also:

if the character is dead: deceased. if we think the character is dead: presumed deceased if the character is serouisly injured: unknown

im just asking because i cant tell whats what here (and i like this wiki) --KiumaruHamachi 05:27, January 2, 2010 (UTC)KiumaruHamachi

Featured Card

D.D. Crow has been up there for a while now we should change DaywalkerAA 12:13, January 18, 2010 (UTC)

Here are my recommendations for the next featured card:

TwosidedDragon 19:54, February 24, 2010 (UTC)

    • i was thinking more like giving an older card some spotlight ...... you know the kind of card once played right can change the outcome of the game something like Mirror Force or Solemn Judgment, etc DaywalkerAA 20:22, February 24, 2010 (UTC)
*Chaos Sorcerer has been getting more and more popularity now, and he also was moved to the limited list next month.--Tapper930 03:46, February 25, 2010 (UTC)
XX-Saber Emmersblade is fairly new and with the rising usage of x-sabers it could be a good chaice for the featured card --Berfomet 04:00, February 25, 2010 (UTC)

all-out attack trap card

how to use this card???.... if the situation is chain.,how to work it?????

Can anyone edit the unrelease TCG sets?

Absolute powerforce already came out.....

Writing Style of Featured Card

It seems like the writing style for a lot of the site's non-Card entry pages are becoming less and less formal. Conversational style is good if it's in the Trivia or Tips sections, but I think it should be written a bit more objectively and formally, especially for the Featured Card section on the front page.

Any thoughts?

Agreed. Zeroblizzard 18:40, March 11, 2010 (UTC)Zeroblizzard

Featured Card

It has been defiled. It says poop in most of the lines. Can someone ammend this?

Can someone fix the statistics page? (Dearest apologies if this was mentioned before)

What the title says. Zeroblizzard 18:39, March 11, 2010 (UTC)Zeroblizzard

Language!!!!

so i was wondering, what languages cards can be used? for example, i have a spanish solemn judgement. can use it in a tournament? and how about a korean judgement dragon?

LIGHTNING VORTEX versus SPIRIT REAPER?

Can Lightning vortex kills Spirit Reaper??? — This unsigned comment was made by 98.242.16.66 (talkcontribs) 22:42, 24 March 2010 (UTC)

Please go to Forum:Yu-Gi-Oh! Ruling Queries to ask ruling questions.
Yes, "Lightning Vortex" can destroy "Spirit Reaper". "Spirit Reaper's" effect stops it from being destroyed by battle, a clear distinction from by card effects. -- Deltaneos (talk) 23:37, March 24, 2010 (UTC)
