Card Rulings:Call of the Haunted
TCG Rulings
Mentions in Other Rulings
- Dark Simorgh: If "Call of the Haunted" is Chained to the activation of "The Shallow Grave" and "Dark Simorgh" is Special Summoned as a result, the controller of "Dark Simorgh" will Special Summon a monster with "The Shallow Grave" but the opponent will not.
- Dragon Knight Draco-Equiste: If you properly Summoned this card, you can Special Summon it from the Graveyard later with Call of the Haunted, etc.
- Dragon Queen of Tragic Endings: "Dragon Queen of Tragic Endings" can be Special Summoned from the Graveyard by cards like "Call of the Haunted" if it had been properly Special Summoned prior.
- Earthbound Immortals: If you Special Summon an Earthbound Immortal by chaining “Call of the Haunted” ... to the activation of a Field Spell Card, even though the Field Spell Card has not resolved when the Earthbound Immortal is Special Summoned as Chain Link 2, the Earthbound Immortal will remain on the field, undestroyed.
- Gale Dogra: You cannot Special Summon a monster sent from the Extra Deck to your Graveyard with cards like "Monster Reborn," "The Shallow Grave," or "Call of the Haunted."
- Pyramid of Wonders: If a Zombie-Type monster is Special Summoned by Call of the Haunted and would be destroyed because Call of the Haunted would be destroyed, you cannot send Pyramid of Wonders to the Graveyard instead because 2 cards are being destroyed at the same time. If Call of the Haunted is returned to your hand or Deck instead, only the Special Summoned monster would be destroyed, so you can send Pyramid of Wonders to the Graveyard instead.
- Reptilianne Servant: If "Spirit Reaper" is Special Summoned by "Call of the Haunted" while "Reptilianne Servant" is face-up on the field, both monsters are destroyed after "Call of the Haunted" resolves [sic]
- Starlight Road: Special Summoning “Stardust Dragon” with “Starlight Road” is not a Synchro Summon. If that “Stardust Dragon” is later sent to the Graveyard, it cannot be Special Summoned by its own effect or “Call of the Haunted.”
- Starlight Road: You cannot chain "Starlight Road" to the activation of a "Mystical Space Typhoon" trying to destroy a "Call of the Haunted" because "Mystical Space Typhoon" is destroying "Call of the Haunted" and the monster targeted is not being destroyed by the effect of "Mystical Space Typhoon", but by the effect of "Call of the Haunted".[1]
- Worm Call: If Dark Simorgh is Special Summoned by Call of the Haunted in a Chain with Worm Call, the effect of Worm Call will not apply and no monster will be Special Summoned.
OCG Rulings
- This card cannot be activated in the Damage Step. Also, Ultimate Offering works the same. (You cannot activate its effect that increases or decreases the number of the monsters as well)[2]
- After the Damage Step, you automatically return to the Battle Step. At this time, you can activate "Call of the Haunted".[3]
- If this card Special Summons a monster during the Battle Phase, you can attack with the monster.[3][4]
On Chaining this Card
- Black Garden: "Black Garden"'s effect to Special Summon a monster from the Graveyard cannot be activated if "Scapegoat" was previously activated, or if "Vanity's Fiend" is on the field. If you activate this effect of "Black Garden" and "Call of the Haunted" is chained to Special Summon "Fossil Dyna Pachycephalo", then all Plant-Type monsters are destroyed, but no monster is Special Summoned.[5]
- Dark Simorgh: While the effect of "Dark Simorgh" is active, your opponent cannot activate the effect of a card like "Guardian Sphinx" or "Stealth Bird" which switches the monster to face-down Defense Position. Also, if the effect of "Guardian Sphinx" is activated and an effect like "Call of the Haunted" is chained so that "Dark Simorgh" is Special Summoned from the Graveyard, then your opponent can no longer Set, so the effect of "Guardian Sphinx" is not applied and the monster is not switched to Defense Position.[6]
On Replays
- You can activate "Call of the Haunted" during your opponent's Battle Step, and this will cause a Replay.[4]
- If your monster attacks and your opponent activates "Magic Cylinder", and then chains "Call of the Haunted", then a replay does not occur. A replay would usually occur after the chain has completed, but "Magic Cylinder" negates the attack, so no replay occurs.[7]
- If your monster attacks and you activate "Call of the Haunted", a replay does NOT occur since the number of monsters your opponent controls doesn't change.[8]
- If you chain "Call of the Haunted" to your "Magical Arm Shield"[9] or "Shift"[10], then a replay does NOT occur. This is becuase a replay does not occur until the chain finishes resolving, and "Magical Arm Shield" and "Shift" redirect the attack.
Versus Normal Summon Monsters
- Quickdraw Synchron: "Quickdraw Synchron" is a Normal Summon Monster; it may be Normal Summoned. Thus, if "Quickdraw Synchron" is sent directly from the hand to the Graveyard, then it may be Special Summoned from the Graveyard by effects like "Call of the Haunted".[11]
Versus Special Summon-only Monsters
- Armityle the Chaos Phantom: "Armityle the Chaos Phantom" and "VWXYZ-Dragon Catapult Cannon" can be Special Summoned from the Graveyard by effects like "Call of the Haunted" or "Premature Burial", but only if they were sent to the Graveyard after being properly Special Summoned from the Extra Deck. However, "XYZ-Dragon Cannon" has the text "This card cannot be Special Summoned from the Graveyard.", so it cannot be Special Summoned from the Graveyard, even if it was sent to the Graveyard after being properly Special Summoned from the Extra Deck.[12]
- Backup Warrior: After "Backup Warrior" was Special Summoned properly as per its text, then after "Backup Warrior" is sent to the Graveyard from the field you may Special Summoned "Backup Warrior" from the Graveyard by effects like "Monster Reborn" or "Call of the Haunted". This is allowed even if the only monsters you control are not two Defense Position monsters. Also, you cannot Synchro Summon during the turn in which "Backup Warrior" is Special Summoned from the Graveyard.[13]
- Dragon Queen of Tragic Endings: "Dragon Queen of Tragic Endings" can be Special Summoned from the Graveyard by effects like "Call of the Haunted" and "Monster Reborn", but only if "Dragon Queen of Tragic Endings" was Special Summoned properly as per its text. This is possible even if you do not have three or more Continuous Spell Cards on your side of the field.[14]
- Starlight Road: The Special Summon by the effect of "Starlight Road" is not treated as a Synchro Summon. Thus, if the Special Summoned "Stardust Dragon" activates its effect and Tributes itself, then during the End Phase it cannot Special Summon itself. Likewise, the Special Summoned "Stardust Dragon" cannot be Special Summoned from the Graveyard by effects like "Call of the Haunted".[15]
- VWXYZ-Dragon Catapult Cannon: See above; listed under "Armityle the Chaos Phantom".
- XYZ-Dragon Cannon: See above; listed under "Armityle the Chaos Phantom".
Miscellaneous
- After "Call of the Haunted" Special Summons a monster, if "Call of the Haunted" is negated by an effect like "Royal Decree" or "Trap Stun", then the Special Summoned monster remains on the field and is not destroyed. "Call of the Haunted" also remains on the field, even though its effect is negated. If the effect of "Royal Decree" or "Trap Stun" is no longer applied, then the effect of "Call of the Haunted" is re-applied, so the Special Summoned monster would be destroyed if "Call of the Haunted" is removed from the field.[16]
In Other Rulings
- Black Horn of Heaven: If a card like "Solemn Judgment", "Horn of Heaven", or "The Selection" negates the Flip Summon of a monster, then the monster is not treated as being sent from the field to the Graveyard.[17]
- If the Flip Summon of "Chaos Sorcerer" is negated by a card like "Solemn Judgment", then it is not treated as being successfully Summoned by the method written in the text, so it cannot be Special Summoned by an effect like "Call of the Haunted".[17]
- If the Flip Summon of "Felgrand Dragon" is negated by a card like "Solemn Judgment", then it is not treated as being sent from the field to the Graveyard, so it cannot be Special Summoned by an effect like "Call of the Haunted".[17]
- Card of Safe Return: If a monster is Special Summoned in the middle of resolving a Chain, you cannot activate the effect of "Card of Safe Return". "Card of Safe Return" has an optional effect that you can activate at the time of "when a monster is successfully Special Summoned from your Graveyard".[18]
- Example: You activate "Monster Reborn" and then chain "Call of the Haunted". You cannot activate the effect of "Card of Safe Return" when "Call of the Haunted" Special Summons a monster as Chain Link 2. After "Monster Reborn" resolves and Special Summons a monster as Chain Link 1, you can activate the effect of "Card of Safe Return" and draw 1 card.[18]
- [[:Card Rulings:|]]: "[[:]]" can be Chained to the activation of a card or the activation of an Effect Monster's effect such as:[19]
- The activation of a Spell or Trap Card that Special Summons a monster(s), like "Level Modulation" or "Call of the Haunted".[19]
- Starlight Road: "Starlight Road" is activated directly in Chain to an effect which destroys two or more cards on the field.[20]
- Example: If the effect of "Judgment Dragon" is activated and "Call of the Haunted" is Chained to the effect of "Judgment Dragon", then "Starlight Road" cannot be Chained to "Call of the Haunted" since "Starlight Road" must be Chained directly to the effect of "Judgment Dragon".[20]
- Solemn Judgment: See above; listed under "Black Horn of Heaven".
- Thunder King Rai-Oh: See above; listed under "Black Horn of Heaven".
Previously Official Rulings
These TCG rulings were issued by Upper Deck Entertainment and have since been declared unofficial by Konami.[24] They were previously considered official and can still be correct, as long as they follow the official gameplay rules, or unless Konami has issued a ruling that says otherwise. References: [25][26][27][28][29][30][31][32][33] |
- "Call of the Haunted" targets the Special Summoned monster, when it is selected in the Graveyard and while it is face-up on the field.
- If the monster Special Summoned with "Call of the Haunted" is returned to its owner's hand by an effect, "Call of the Haunted" remains on the field meaninglessly.
- If an effect is chained that removes "Call of the Haunted" from the field, the selected monster is not Special Summoned.
- If "Royal Decree" is activated after "Call of the Haunted" has resolved, and later "Royal Decree" is destroyed, "Call of the Haunted" continues to target the Special Summoned monster.
Mentions in Other Rulings
- Amazoness Archers: If you activate "Amazoness Archers" during the Battle Phase and your opponent Special Summons another monster afterwards (such as with "Call of the Haunted"...), the newly-Summoned monster is not affected by "Amazoness Archers" and does not suffer the -500 ATK reduction nor does it have to attack.
- Asura Priest: "Asura Priest" cannot attack a monster if it has already attacked directly this turn. For example, the opponent activates "Call of the Haunted" or "Scapegoat" after "Asura Priest" has completed a direct attack.
- Bazoo the Soul-Eater: Removing Monster Cards from the Graveyard is a cost of "Bazoo the Soul-Eater"'s effect, so if your opponent chains to the activation of this effect with "Call of the Haunted", to Special Summon "Kycoo the Ghost Destroyer", the effect of "Bazoo the Soul-Eater" is not negated since the Monster Cards were already removed.
- Belial - Marquis of Darkness: If you chain "Call of the Haunted" to a Spell or Trap Card that targets 1 monster you control and you Special Summon "Belial - Marquis of Darkness", the effect is still resolved as normal.
- Big-Tusked Mammoth: The effect of "Big-Tusked Mammoth" includes those monsters Summoned this turn before "Big-Tusked Mammoth" was face-up on the field. For example, if your opponent attacks with a monster that was Summoned this turn, and you activate "Call of the Haunted" to Special Summon "Big-Tusked Mammoth" from the Graveyard, this causes a replay, and your opponent now cannot attack with the monster that was Summoned this turn.
- Black Garden: If "Black Garden's" second effect is activated and "Call of the Haunted" is chained, Special Summoning "Fossil Dyna Pachycephalo", "Black Garden's" effect cannot Special Summon a monster, but it and all face-up Plant-Type monsters on the field are still destroyed.
- Blast Asmodian: If you activate "Call of the Haunted" targeting "Blast Asmodian", then another card is chained to "Call of the Haunted", the effect of "Blast Asmodian" does not activate and inflict damage after the chain resolves.
- Book of Life: If you activate "Book of Life" and your opponent chains "Call of the Haunted" to Special Summon "Kycoo the Ghost Destroyer", you still get to Special Summon 1 Zombie with Book of Life's effect (but do not remove 1 monster from your opponent's Graveyard).
- Bottomless Trap Hole: If the opponent activates "Monster Reborn" and then chains "Call of the Haunted" (so that 2 monsters are Summoned in the same chain), and then you activate "Bottomless Trap Hole" after that chain resolves only the monster Summoned by chain link 1 ("Monster Reborn") is removed from play.
- Bubble Crash: If you send "Call of the Haunted" to the Graveyard, the monster Special Summoned by its effect is destroyed.
- Card of Safe Return: Drawing a card for this card's effect is optional, so if you use "Call of the Haunted" when you have no cards left in your Deck you do not lose the Duel.
- Creature Swap: A player may select a monster Special Summoned by "Call of the Haunted" or "Premature Burial". If the "Call of the Haunted" or "Premature Burial", still on the opponent's side of the field, is destroyed, the monster targeted by those cards is destroyed also.
- Dark Magic Curtain: When you activate “Dark Magic Curtain”, you cannot chain cards like “Call of the Haunted” or “Ultimate Offering” because you cannot Normal Summon or Special Summon during the same turn. Also, you cannot activate cards like “Premature Burial” or “Monster Reborn” after activating “Dark Magic Curtain”.
- Destruction Jammer: "Destruction Jammer" cannot be chained when ... "Call of the Haunted" is activated because they do not destroy a monster card at that time, nor can it be chained when the Special Summoned monster is destroyed.
- Diffusion Wave-Motion: If you Special Summon a monster during the Battle Phase after having activated "Diffusion Wave-Motion" (such as with "De-Fusion" or "Call of the Haunted"), that monster cannot attack because "Diffusion Wave-Motion"'s effect prevents all monsters other than the selected Level 7 Spellcaster-Type monster from attacking.
- Elemental Hero Aqua Neos/Elemental Hero Dark Neos/Elemental Hero Flare Neos:: If this card was Special Summoned properly by its own effect, then you can Special Summon it from the Graveyard with "Call of the Haunted", etc.
- Elemental Hero Wildheart: You can Special Summon "Elemental Hero Wildheart" with "Call of the Haunted". He will not be destroyed if "Call of the Haunted" is later removed from the field.
- Exchange of the Spirit: If the opponent activates "Premature Burial" or "Call of the Haunted" you can chain "Exchange of the Spirit" (if you meet the requirements) to swap the cards in the Deck and the Graveyard. Since the targeted monster is no longer in their Graveyard, "Premature Burial" would be destroyed and "Call of the Haunted" would remain on the field meaninglessly.
- Fiend Skull Dragon: You can activate "Call of the Haunted" to Special Summon "Fiend Skull Dragon". After it resolves, "Call of the Haunted" will be destroyed and "Fiend Skull Dragon" will remain on the field. Remember that "Fiend Skull Dragon" must have been properly Fusion Summoned previously in order to Special Summon it from the Graveyard.
- Fiend Skull Dragon: You can chain "Call of the Haunted" to the activation of a Flip Effect to Special Summon "Fiend Skull Dragon", and the Flip Effect will be negated.
- Fushioh Richie: You can use "Premature Burial" or "Call of the Haunted" to Special Summon "Fushioh Richie" from your Graveyard, as long as "Fushioh Richie" was Special Summoned using the proper method ("Great Dezard") previously.
- Fusion Gate: Fusion Monsters Special Summoned without "Polymerization" while "Fusion Gate" is on the field are still considered properly Summoned by a Fusion Summon. So they may be the target of "Monster Reborn", "Call of the Haunted", etc. (This does not apply to Fusion Monsters Special Summoned by the effects of other cards, such as "Magical Scientist" or "Summoner of Illusions".)
- Goblin of Greed: If your opponent activates an effect and discards as a cost, and you chain "Call of the Haunted" to Special Summon "Goblin of Greed", he doesn't stop the effect because the cost was already paid.
- Gravekeeper's Chief: If you have "Gravekeeper's Chief" and "Necrovalley" on the field, you can use "Monster Reborn", "Premature Burial", "Call of the Haunted", etc. to revive monsters from your Graveyard. Also, if you have "Gravekeeper's Chief" on the field, your opponent can use "Monster Reborn" on monsters in your Graveyard.
- Heart of Clear Water: If you Special Summon a monster with "Premature Burial" or "Call of the Haunted" and then equip that monster with "Heart of Clear Water", the monster will not be destroyed if "Premature Burial" or "Call of the Haunted" is destroyed.
- Horn of Heaven: "Horn of Heaven" cannot be used to negate a Special Summon that results from a Spell, Trap, or effect of an Effect Monster Card. You cannot use "Horn of Heaven" to negate a Special Summon from ... "Call of the Haunted", ....
- Horus' Servant: "Horus' Servant" has an effect just like "Lord of D.", but only applicable to "Horus the Black Flame Dragon". "Horus' Servant" will not negate a card effect. All it does is prevent "Horus the Black Flame Dragon" from being selected as a target. If your opponent selects "Horus the Black Flame Dragon" as a target (with "Ring of Destruction", for example), and you chain "Call of the Haunted" to Special Summon "Horus' Servant", then "Horus the Black Flame Dragon" will still be destroyed by "Ring of Destruction" because "Horus' Servant" is being Special Summoned AFTER "Horus the Black Flame Dragon" was selected. The fact that "Ring of Destruction" has not yet resolved does not matter; "Horus the Black Flame Dragon" was selected at activation of "Ring of Destruction", and "Horus' Servant" is Special Summoned too late to prevent this.
- Invader of Darkness: "Invader of Darkness" prevents the activation of Quick-Play Spell Cards, but doesn't negate their effects. So if your opponent activates a Quick-Play Spell Card and you chain "Call of the Haunted" to Special Summon "Invader of Darkness", he does not negate the activation or effect of the Quick-Play Spell Card.
- Jowgen the Spiritualist: While this card is on the field neither player can activate "Scapegoat", "Monster Reborn", "Call of the Haunted", "Magical Hats", "Dedication through Light and Darkness", or any other card that Special Summons a monster.
- Last Turn: If you activate "Last Turn" and select a monster that was Special Summoned by "Call of the Haunted", when "Call of the Haunted" is sent to the Graveyard by "Last Turn", your selected monster is destroyed. But if you selected a monster Special Summoned by "Premature Burial", the selected monster is not destroyed when "Premature Burial" is sent to the Graveyard by "Last Turn".
- Lord of D.: If your opponent activates "Ring of Destruction" targeting your "Lord of D." and you chain "D. Tribe" to change "Lord of D." to Dragon-Type, "Ring of Destruction" will still resolve and destroy "Lord of D." since he was selected as a target before he was changed into Dragon-Type. If your opponent activates "Ring of Destruction" targeting a Dragon-Type monster you control and you chain "Call of the Haunted" to Special Summon "Lord of D." from your Graveyard, your Dragon-Type monster is still destroyed for the same reason.
- Magical Marionette: If you activate a Spell Card, and your opponent chains "Call of the Haunted" to Special Summon "Magical Marionette", "Magical Marionette" does not get a Spell Counter for that Spell Card because "Magical Marionette" must be face-up on the field when the Spell Card is activated and when it resolves in order to get a Spell Counter.
- My Body as a Shield: "My Body as a Shield" can only be used against effects that will destroy monsters at that time. So you cannot use "My Body as a Shield" when "Tribe-Infecting Virus" is summoned; you can only use it in response to the activation of "Tribe-Infecting Virus"'s effect, at which point the effect of "Tribe-Infecting Virus" is negated and "Tribe-Infecting Virus" is destroyed. Also, you cannot use "My Body as a Shield" against cards whose effects will not destroy a monster right away, so you cannot use "My Body as a Shield" against..."Call of the Haunted"...
- Necrovalley: "Necrovalley" negates any effect that targets a card or cards in the Graveyard. So "Necrovalley" WILL negate the effect of: ..."Call of the Haunted"...
- Non Aggression Area: If you activate "Non Aggression Area", your opponent can still Special Summon THIS turn with "Call of the Haunted", etc.
- Pineapple Blast: When "Ring of Destruction" or "Call of the Haunted" is chained to "Pineapple Blast", and the number of monsters on the field is changed, count the number of monsters at resolution of "Pineapple Blast"'s effect, not at activation.
- Pitch-Black Power Stone: You place the 3 Spell Counters on "Pitch-Black Power Stone" even if "Royal Decree" is active, so if your opponent chains "Royal Decree" to your "Pitch-Black Power Stone", or chains "Call of the Haunted" to Special Summon "Jinzo", you still get 3 Spell Counters on it.
- Pot of Avarice: If any of the 5 monsters targeted by "Pot of Avarice" are removed from the Graveyard before its effect resolves, for example by "Disappear" or "Call of the Haunted", then the entire effect of "Pot of Avarice" disappears. You do not shuffle the other monsters into your Deck and you do not draw 2 cards.
- Prime Material Dragon: ... you cannot use "Prime Material Dragon's" effect against cards whose effects will not destroy a monster right away, so you cannot use "Prime Material Dragon" against... "Call of the Haunted"...
- Protector of the Sanctuary: You can chain "Call of the Haunted" to a card effect that would make your opponent draw, and if you Special Summon "Protector of the Sanctuary", your opponent does not draw.
- Protector of the Sanctuary: If "Call of the Haunted" is chained to "Reckless Greed" to Special Summon "Protector of the Sanctuary", you cannot draw for the effect of "Reckless Greed" because of the "Protector of the Sanctuary", so you do not draw and you do not skip 2 Draw Phases.
- Protector of the Sanctuary: If "Call of the Haunted" is chained to "Disturbance Strategy" to Special Summon "Protector of the Sanctuary", your opponent adds his hand to the Deck and shuffles it by the effect of "Disturbance Strategy", but "Protector of the Sanctuary" prevents him from drawing.
- Protector of the Sanctuary: If "Call of the Haunted" is chained to "Upstart Goblin" to Special Summon "Protector of the Sanctuary", you cannot draw 1 card and your opponent does not gain 1000 Life Points.
- Protector of the Sanctuary: If "Call of the Haunted" is chained to "Reload" to Special Summon "Protector of the Sanctuary", your opponent adds his hand to his Deck and shuffles it, but "Protector of the Sanctuary" prevents him from drawing.
- Protector of the Sanctuary: If "Call of the Haunted" is chained to "Graceful Charity" to Special Summon "Protector of the Sanctuary", you cannot draw for the effect of "Graceful Charity" and you do not discard 2 cards.
- Protector of the Sanctuary: If "Call of the Haunted" is chained to "Mind Wipe" to Special Summon "Protector of the Sanctuary", your opponent adds his hand to the Deck and shuffles, but cannot draw any cards.
- Revival Jam: If you pay 1000 Life Points when your "Revival Jam" is sent to the Graveyard, and then activate "Call of the Haunted" to return it to the field before your next Standby Phase, and it is again destroyed you must pay another 1000 Life Points if you want it to return during your next Standby Phase. Its condition was reset when it was taken out of the Graveyard by the effect of "Call of the Haunted".
- Royal Oppression: There are basically 2 ways to Special Summon a monster. The first way is with a Spell Card like "Monster Reborn", a Trap Card like "Call of the Haunted", or an Effect Monster like "Magical Scientist". The second way is built in to the monster, and Special Summons it without activating an effect, such as "Black Luster Soldier - Envoy of the Beginning" or "Dark Necrofear". "Royal Oppression" can negate both of these types of Special Summon. In the first case, you chain the activation of "Royal Oppression"'s effect to the activation of the Spell, Trap, or Monster Card's effect, and negate the effect. In the second case, right before the monster is Special Summoned, you can activate the effect of "Royal Oppression" to negate the Special Summon (the same procedure that you use for "Horn of Heaven" or "Solemn Judgment").
- Royal Oppression: Example 3: If "Call of the Haunted" is activated, you can activate the effect of "Royal Oppression" in a chain. The effect of "Call of the Haunted" is negated, and a monster is not Special Summoned.
- Sacred Phoenix of Nephthys: If "Sacred Phoenix of Nephthys" is Special Summoned with "Call of the Haunted" or "Premature Burial", and that card is destroyed and destroys "Sacred Phoenix of Nephthys" with its effect, you Special Summon "Sacred Phoenix of Nephthys" during your next Standby Phase because it was destroyed by a card effect.
- Six Samurai: You can use the effect of “Six Samurai” monsters to prevent them from being destroyed by the effects of “Call of the Haunted” .... So if a “Six Samurai” (or “Great Shogun Shien”) is targeted by “Call of the Haunted”, and “Call of the Haunted” is destroyed, you can destroy a different “Six Samurai” monster instead of the one that was targeted by “Call of the Haunted”.
- Soul-Absorbing Bone Tower: When your opponent attacks your "Soul-Absorbing Bone Tower" and during the Battle Step you activate "Call of the Haunted" to Special Summon another Zombie-Type monster, then a replay occurs (and you send 2 cards from your opponent's Deck to the Graveyard).
- Spell Counters: If you activate a Spell Card, and your opponent chains "Call of the Haunted" to Special Summon [this monster], [this monster] does not get a Spell Counter for that Spell Card because [this monster] must be face-up on the field when the Spell Card is activated and when it resolves in order to get a Spell Counter.
- Spell Canceller: You can chain "Call of the Haunted" to a Spell Card, and Special Summon "Spell Canceller", to negate the effect of the Spell Card.
- Spirit Reaper: If "Spirit Reaper" is Special Summoned with "Premature Burial" or "Call of the Haunted", "Spirit Reaper" is destroyed after it is Special Summoned because it is targeted by an effect.
- Swift Samurai Storm!: Any given "Six Samurai" can only gain the ATK increase once per turn, after the first time a "Six Samurai" battles while it is on the field. (Example: You control 2 "Six Samurai" monsters, Irou and Yaichi and a face-up "Swift Samurai Storm!". Irou battles, and Irou and Yaichi gain 300 ATK. If you then use "Call of the Haunted" to Special Summon "The Six Samurai - Nisashi", he will not automatically gain 300 ATK. If Yaichi battles, then Nisashi will gain 300 ATK.)
- The End of Anubis: "The End of Anubis" WILL negate the...activation of "Call of the Haunted"...
- The End of Anubis: You can chain "Call of the Haunted" to your opponent's effect that targets a card in the Graveyard or activates in the Graveyard to Special Summon "The End of Anubis" and negate that effect.
- The End of Anubis: "The End of Anubis" negates the Special Summon effect of "Premature Burial" & "Call of the Haunted", but does not negate the effect that destroys the monster when "Premature Burial"/"Call of the Haunted" is destroyed.
- Thunder Nyan Nyan: "Thunder Nyan Nyan" can be destroyed by her own effect between steps in a chain. For example, the opponent targets your "Thunder Nyan Nyan" with "Snatch Steal". You chain "Call of the Haunted" to Special Summon "Dark Magician" from your Graveyard, a DARK monster. The chain resolves as follows: "Call of the Haunted" resolves, "Thunder Nyan Nyan" is destroyed because there is a DARK monster on the field, "Snatch Steal"'s effect disappears because the target is no longer on the field.
- Torrential Tribute: "Torrential Tribute" can be activated after a monster is Summoned through another card's effect, such as..."Call of the Haunted".
- Tyrant Dragon: You can activate "Call of the Haunted" to Special Summon "Tyrant Dragon". After it resolves, "Call of the Haunted" will be destroyed and "Tyrant Dragon" will remain on the field. You must still Tribute a Dragon-Type monster to perform this Special Summon, in accordance with the text of "Tyrant Dragon".
- Union Monsters: If a Union Monster turns into an Equip Spell Card, or reverts back into a monster, effects are reset. For example, if I use "Call of the Haunted" to Special Summon a Union Monster, then attach it to another monster, it is no longer affected by "Call of the Haunted" (which remains on the field meaninglessly and, if destroyed, does not destroy the Union Monster). ...
- Vampire Lord: When you have your "Vampire Lord" in play, Special Summoned by your "Premature Burial" or "Call of the Haunted", and your opponent destroys "Premature Burial" or "Call of the Haunted" with "Mystical Space Typhoon", the "Vampire Lord" won't be Special Summoned because it was destroyed by your card effect, not by your opponent's. If your opponent controls your "Vampire Lord" with "Autonomous Action Unit", and "Autonomous Action Unit" is destroyed, "Vampire Lord" won't be Special Summoned because the owner did not control him.
- VWXYZ-Dragon Catapult Cannon: Once properly Summoned by the method written in the text this card can be Special Summoned from the Graveyard with effects like "Call of the Haunted"...
Judge List Rulings
- If a Ritual or Fusion monster is properly Summoned by a Ritual Summon/Fusion Summon, sent to the Graveyard, Special Summoned back to the Field with a card like "Premature Burial" or "Fulfillment of the Contract", then sent to the Graveyard again, it can still be Special Summoned with cards such as "Call of the Haunted", ect.[21]
- Jinzo: If "Call of the Haunted" is destroyed while being negated by "Jinzo", then the monster Special Summoned by "Call of the Haunted" is not destroyed. This includes if "Jinzo" is Special Summoned by "Call of the Haunted".[22]
- Jinzo: If "Jinzo" is Special Summoned with "Call of the Haunted" and then "Jinzo" is destroyed and removed from the field, "Call of the Haunted" is itself also destroyed and removed from the field.[23]
