Ratio template

Hi there. Did you find any idea about this template's new layout? Also I don't know if you noticed the suggestion I gave you, maybe it could be useful for you. --Brunjox(talk,contrib) 11:46, July 8, 2012 (UTC)

Yeah, I saw it. I just didn't have anything to say about it at the time. ;)
I'm not sure that would really work, though; Decklist is designed like it is because it displays potentially very long lists that need collapsed for readability/usability of the rest of the page. That isn't a concern on Set Ratios pages, though. ディノ千?!? · ☎ Dinoguy1000 13:25, July 8, 2012 (UTC)
Right, I just threw in my 2 cents because, as I said, I didn't find any better idea - at least by browsing Wikia's templates.
Sooooo I can recognize you haven't "seen the light" yet about the layout problem. :) --Brunjox(talk,contrib) 14:08, July 8, 2012 (UTC)
Nope, and I haven't really had the time to give it much thought recently, either. =( ディノ千?!? · ☎ Dinoguy1000 15:35, July 8, 2012 (UTC)

Kuri

Any idea why the "Kuri" page is listing itself as both a series and an archetype? As a result, the navbox has a blank support section with a redlink to the support page. Cheesedude (talkcontribs) 19:34, July 8, 2012 (UTC)

Category:Series was added to the page manually. Remember that annoying glitch that causes pages to appear more than once in #ask queries? That's causing there to be two records for "Berserker Crush". One of them uses an old version of the page, which lists it as a support card. So is not coming up blank, so the infobox thinks "Kuri" has support cards, so it's classing it as an "archetype". -- Deltaneos (talk) 21:20, July 8, 2012 (UTC)
That's troublesome. Removing the series cat just causes it to categorize as an archetype too... Cheesedude (talkcontribs) 22:04, July 8, 2012 (UTC)
Isn't something currently running (at a very slow pace) to correct that glitch? How's that progressing? --Golden Key (talkcontribs) 22:36, July 8, 2012 (UTC)
I think that repair might have finished. The "Gusto" cards all have only one entry now. There is another repair going on now, which is currently at 83.0528%. iirc and uiam (which I might be), you can't stop that repair just before upgrading to a newer version of SMW and then continue it after the upgrade. If that's true, that repair must have been started recently, in which case it's working a lot faster. -- Deltaneos (talk) 22:44, July 8, 2012 (UTC)
Black Corn is still listed twice in the All "Number" cards list, and it was one of the cards mentioned when the scan I was talking about was started. Hopefully the ongoing scan will be the one to fix it and the "Kuri" problem, then. --Golden Key (talkcontribs) 22:55, July 8, 2012 (UTC)
I've been watching the repair for a few months (no, seriously). Unfortunately, it's all been the same repair operation; it carried right through the upgrade. Somewhat worryingly, it hit a high point at about 83.3%, then dropped down to its current point around the time of the upgrade, and it's been sitting there for a few days now. ディノ千?!? · ☎ Dinoguy1000 04:25, July 9, 2012 (UTC)
If it's become idle, that's unfortunate. But the sooner we restart it the sooner it will finish, so we probably shouldn't wait around if it doesn't seem to be progressing anymore. --Golden Key (talkcontribs) 17:52, July 9, 2012 (UTC)
Not necessarily. This is the only wiki I've ever used SMW on, and this is my only experience with the SMW repair operation, so I can't say whether restarting it would really make it progress any faster, though I can say I rather doubt it. This isn't the first time it's stuck at one spot for a few days, though, and we should give it another week or so to start moving again before we seriously think about restarting it. ディノ千?!? · ☎ Dinoguy1000 17:55, July 9, 2012 (UTC)
This should be a list of every card duplicate currently on this wikia:
Berserker Crush, Big Wave Small Wave, Castle of Dark Illusions (DM), Courageous Charge!
Cursed Waters Level 3, Degeneration Wing, Elemental HERO Inferno, Hero Solidarity, Jutte Fighter, Labyrinth of Nightmare (card)
Lightning Wallaby, Number 50: Black Corn, Relationship, Revoke Fusion, Rigorous Reaver, Spell Economics
Synchro Blast Wave, Take One Chance, The Seal of Orichalcos (original), Trojan Blast

That repair thing seems to have finally finished, but not everything seems to be fixed. -Falzar FZ- (talk page|useful stuff) 05:04, November 7, 2012 (UTC)
I noticed that it finished earlier today (and have been thinking about getting it started again, more for the hell of it than anything =D ). What in particular still looks broken? ディノ千?!? · ☎ Dinoguy1000 06:25, November 7, 2012 (UTC)
I had that thought as well.
My previous message of course. -Falzar FZ- (talk page|useful stuff) 07:34, November 7, 2012 (UTC)
Oh, right. I frankly have no idea of how we might try to fix those short of trying another repair, or something more drastic like page deletion (and even that wouldn't guarantee clearing SMW's caches). =/ ディノ千?!? · ☎ Dinoguy1000 08:23, November 7, 2012 (UTC)

Official?

How come the manga cards' names/lores be official? They were never released in English, neither in the manga nor in the TCG. :| LegenaryAsariUgetsu (talkcontribs) 17:46, July 9, 2012 (UTC)

Rank 19 was published in this week's Weekly Shonen Jump Alpha (yes, they really skipped the chapters between 1 and 19). =) ディノ千?!? · ☎ Dinoguy1000 17:49, July 9, 2012 (UTC)
Wait, so it started from Rank 19? What the hell? xD Is it an online magazine? If yes, could you please send me the link? I'd like very much to see it. :3 I don't have the summary of Rank 19 complete anyway. :/LegenaryAsariUgetsu (talkcontribs) 17:53, July 9, 2012 (UTC)
Well, yes and no. A few issues ago it ran Rank 1 as a sort of preview, then it skipped up to 19 to start the actual serialization.
Yes, it's an online magazine (a continuation of Shonen Jump, actually), but it's subscriber-only. The website is over there if you'd like to look at getting a subscription, though (it's a weekly magazine, and has a decent amount of shonen fair - Naruto, Bleach, One Piece, Toriko, Nura, Barrage, and (once a month) Rurouni Kenshin and our own ZEXAL - as well as stuff like interviews with mangaka). ディノ千?!? · ☎ Dinoguy1000 18:01, July 9, 2012 (UTC)

I can help out with (English) card images/names/lores as time permits, but can't do much with the summaries - I've never been any good at summarizing, and I lost interest in actually following the YGO manga after trying and failing to read Ride 1 from 5D's (interestingly enough, the whole GX Duel Academy thing that so many people were bothered by, never really bothered me). ディノ千?!? · ☎ Dinoguy1000 19:38, July 9, 2012 (UTC)

Great, some help! ^^ Thanks for offering! If any of you think you are not good at summarize or something like that, you can just tell me more or less what happens and I do it myself, or something like that. I essentially am not good at that either to tell the truth, but after taking care alone of the mangas for this time, I learned something. ;D I guess...xD LegenaryAsariUgetsu (talkcontribs) 23:34, July 9, 2012 (UTC)

Man you got me there, I didn't even know about that one. >.< Glad to know there is another Shonen Jump fan around. ^.^ Look234 (talkcontribs) 03:19, July 10, 2012 (UTC)
I wonder if there're any other special issues... I know of the Scholastic edition that featured JMPS-EN001 Troposphere, but it doesn't look like it actually differs from the equivalent newsstand/subscriber issue of SJ.
Do you collect any other magazines (primarily anime/manga, but I'm also curious about just in general)? I've got a few issues of Shojo Beat that my library was looking to get rid of, but other than that I don't have anything anime/manga related (though I'd love to start collecting others). More generally, I have a pretty mean collection of National Geographic Magazine (some of my issues are from the 70's and maybe even 60's... almost twice my age! =D) and some other odds and ends (some issues of National Geographic Traveler and National Geographic Adventure, some Scientific American issues, a couple Smithonians, some Game Informers, some Reader's Digests, etc.), though I don't have any real plans to try and expand my collections of any of these. ディノ千?!? · ☎ Dinoguy1000 03:32, July 10, 2012 (UTC)
Also, I don't suppose you have any idea where Viz stores the actual page images for SJ Alpha, do you, Look? I'd like to start keeping archival copies of the issues (especially since they're going to expire after a year), but I've never been able to find them and I really don't want to download rips from some random site. ディノ千?!? · ☎ Dinoguy1000 03:37, July 10, 2012 (UTC)
The only other special issue I can remember is the Fifth Anniversary Collector's Issue. It's pretty easy to get a hold of. I could never find the Scholastic edition though, sad day. -_- And yep I do collect others, in the manga category I have a few Weekly Jump and V Jump from when I went to Japan a year ago. I also have about 350+ graphic novels, mainly Shonen Jump. As for other magazines I do have a few Nat Geos a couple of old ones as well from 1955 I found at a yard sale, just to cool to pass up. ^_^ Others I collect are Architectural Digest, Azure, a couple of Make magazines, and various design and editing magazines. I just like getting idea from them, really nice photos and cool concepts.
And I've looked through the source and they have hidden it a bit, I can't quite find it at the moment. For now I've just been doing full screen screenshots, I also have had that same idea of archiving the Alpha issues. ^_^ Look234 (talkcontribs) 04:00, July 10, 2012 (UTC)
I seem to remember seeing some copies of the Scholastic edition on eBay back around the time it was released, but I don't think any of them were still shrink wrapped - anyone who knew enough to know what they were looking at with that edition would have bought as many copies as they could to get as many copies of the promo as possible, and resold the magazine and cards separately.
I've been all through the HTML source of one of the viewer pages, and a lot of the Javascript files as well. It's looking more and more to me like some variables are set somewhere and the Flash viewer takes these variables and constructs the appropriate URLs out of them to get the images, or something along that line. I've also tried looking through the resources listed in Chrome's data inspector, again no dice. =( ディノ千?!? · ☎ Dinoguy1000 04:15, July 10, 2012 (UTC)
I will keep an eye out for the Scholastic edition. Yeah I can grab the reader .swf file but it doesn't get past the loading bar because it needs the Javascript input I'm guessing. They are getting better at this protecting their material business. :P Look234 (talkcontribs) 04:26, July 10, 2012 (UTC)
IAll right, I think I got it figured out: In Chrome's data inspector, open the "Network" tab and reload the reader page. Actual issue images will be .jpg's with digit names under the URL "paidmedia.viz.com/manga/shonenjump/wsja/" (the images should be the last objects loaded, or close to it). Unfortunately, each image appears to have a unique "crypton" hash which is required to actually view the image; without this hash you just get an error notice with a reference number. This means we'll have to grab each image one-by-one (or you could use a network sniffer or the like to grab the images automatically as they're loaded). It does go reasonably fast once you've gotten into the rhythm, though. ディノ千?!? · ☎ Dinoguy1000 05:20, July 10, 2012 (UTC)
Yeah I had a feeling there would be a specific sequence for each user that is verified elsewhere. Man, oh well Print Screen for now. :P Look234 (talkcontribs) 16:57, July 10, 2012 (UTC)

Ideally, a "summary" should cover pretty much everything that happens in an episode/chapter, up to and including irrelevant banter between characters. So it's not really even a "summary", its more like an "almost word-for-word retelling of the episode/chapter"). Partial summaries are fine too. Something is better than nothing in this case. I don't think my summaries are particularly great, but that doesn't stop me from writing them anyway. Cheesedude (talkcontribs) 23:45, July 9, 2012 (UTC)

Pft, if your summaries aren't good, then mine are random craps. I try to tell what happens, but I don't know well how to do that. And the fact of my native language not being English just makes things worse. >__<
By the way, at Luna (ZEXAL), they are already posting she has at least 11 Numbers, including 5 and 59 as well. Could you, Dinoguy or Look, please check in the English manga, in the part she reveals she's a Numbers Hunter, how many Numbers card appeared behind her (exactly the scene from the image in her article), and which ones had their numbers shown? I can't tell for sure since the Japanese scan I had was cut in half. :PLegenaryAsariUgetsu (talkcontribs) 23:52, July 9, 2012 (UTC)
Yours seem fine to me. Yeah, the grammar could use some work, but if English isn't your first language, that's totally understandable (not that my grammar is flawless either). You get better as you go along too. Some of my early summaries were abysmal. Cheesedude (talkcontribs) 01:20, July 10, 2012 (UTC)
From what I can tell, it isn't implied in the least that the Numbers shown behind Luna are the ones she owns (or even that she actually owns any Numbers, though she does seem to have intimate knowledge of what they do to Duelists that own one); the dialogue on that page proceeds as follows:
Luna (panel 1): "In light of your skill, I have a favor to ask."
Shark: "A favor...?"
Luna (panel 2): "Erase all the Numbers..." "...from this world!"
Shark (panel 3; thought): "The Numbers?!"
If you still want to know regardless, the Numbers shown behind Luna are 5, 76, 27, 59, 13, and 60, and there are two with only one identifiable digit, ?0 and ?5, and there are three that have no identifiable digits. I can upload an image of that panel or the whole page (or the two-page spread) if you'd like visual confirmation. ディノ千?!? · ☎ Dinoguy1000 02:49, July 10, 2012 (UTC)
I've linked to this discussion over at Neo Ark Cradle. I'm going to see if anyone there can compare the dialogue to the what the Japanese version had.
Also, re-reading my summary spiel above, I should clarify that I understand that you both have other projects on-wiki as well ans if you prefer to do those, go for it. Just saying that any help with summaries wouldn't be unappreciated. ^_^ Cheesedude (talkcontribs) 15:54, July 10, 2012 (UTC)
Yeah, as long as I'm here, you don't need to worry about the mangas. 8D LegenaryAsariUgetsu (talkcontribs) 16:48, July 10, 2012 (UTC)

List of Token Monsters

The second list in that page is not showing up and I want to go through all the manga tokens too, since it seems they were subject to rampant Type/Attribute speculation. Cheesedude (talkcontribs) 18:18, July 11, 2012 (UTC)

Fixed. Fun fact: apparently, there are no Tokens that have appeared both in the anime and manga, but that have not been released in the OCG/TCG (or our tagging of such could just be teh suxorz)! ディノ千?!? · ☎ Dinoguy1000 19:37, July 11, 2012 (UTC)
Thanks. I've gone through them. Two things: That list seems to include TCG tokens as well. Even "Sheep Token" is listed there. Also, there is some indication that several of the manga "tokens" are not actually tokens. I've asked Ryusui about it. Cheesedude (talkcontribs) 23:48, July 13, 2012 (UTC)
The TCG tokens are appearing because they don't have any set info; CardTable2 only uses the set info parameters when deciding if cards are anime/manga/vg-exclusive. ディノ千?!? · ☎ Dinoguy1000 07:34, July 14, 2012 (UTC)
....we really need separate pages for the "official token cards" then. Cheesedude (talkcontribs) 09:37, July 14, 2012 (UTC)

Imbox style.png

Would you know how to do a template of "File:Imbox style.png" for video games non-PNG images? IgorThunderMaster (talkcontribs) 20:34, July 13, 2012 (UTC)

I'm really not sure what you're asking; could you link to an example? ディノ千?!? · ☎ Dinoguy1000 07:35, July 14, 2012 (UTC)
All right, now I understand what you're asking about: "File:Imbox style.png" is used for the warning message box on non-PNG card images when they use OCG-TCG card image (I hope that makes sense). You're asking how to make such a warning box for video game card images. The answer is, you'll eventually be able to do so with the current template, adding it the same way you do to OCG/TCG card images, but first I'll have to finish the template's support for VG card images (there's a bit of support now, but it's spotty and untested; I'll have to sit down and work on it some more). ディノ千?!? · ☎ Dinoguy1000 08:02, July 14, 2012 (UTC)

RE:Kachi Kochi Dragon attack name

No problem, call me what you want. ;) If it gets easier for you, you can call me Kank as well (short for Kankurou, my main username). By the way, do you know how can I add an "AKA" to my profile? xP

OK, so, 'bout the name. Well, that's not the name of the attack; its just an order. Luna just ordered him to pulverize Righty. This can be a little confusing some times, but many characters just order a monster to do something when activating an effect or attacking (rip 'em to shreds, destroy, rise, protect, etc.). Those are not actual attack or effect names; actual names usually are things more like, for example, Bahamut's Divine Soul. You can recognize it for the different style. Instead of orders, they are like descriptions (e.g. Thunder Blade, Great Cannon, Dragon Flame, etc.).LegenaryAsariUgetsu (talkcontribs) 15:59, July 14, 2012 (UTC)
If Exodia's "Obliterate" is being treated as an attack name, we should remove it right now. That's clearly an order, not a name. Maybe we could add an invisible note in the attack names page about this (y'know, that notes that don't appear in the page, but appear when you are editing it). LegenaryAsariUgetsu (talkcontribs) 16:40, July 14, 2012 (UTC)
I personally disagree. An order is something very irrelevant in my opinion. And many characters give orders in many situations, so documenting all would be a big waste of time. I myself can just Duel my friend and when attacking his monster, say "Destroy!". Again, in my opinion, that's something much irrelevant. Attack names at least are original and unique. Orders are just what the card does, and are very general terms that can be used for any card. LegenaryAsariUgetsu (talkcontribs) 16:48, July 14, 2012 (UTC)
Actually, once we explain it clearly, they will understand. For example, you understood after I explained you just once, didn't you? We just have to explain it clearly and give examples. ;) And if one editor or another still doesn't understand and add an order, we can just undo it, and contact him/her explaining. LegenaryAsariUgetsu (talkcontribs) 16:56, July 14, 2012 (UTC)
Then, you'll do it? If not I think I can do. I just dunno how to add the invisible notes. :P LegenaryAsariUgetsu (talkcontribs) 17:15, July 14, 2012 (UTC)

Automatic "searched via" list

User:Falzar FZ/Sandbox7. I've finally decided to finish it off (though it only contains whatever is on the page Searcher). To use it, transclude into to any Tips Page and preview. Do you think it can/should be added to the every tips page? Like through the Navigation template, but in that case, it can't really split between Traditional/Advanced Format, but having it in its own section or in a box would work. It's also sorta heavy on the #ask:s. -Falzar FZ- (talk page|useful stuff) 10:31, July 15, 2012 (UTC)
And, is there a query for "non-Tuner monster"? I can't seem to find one for things like Gusto Egul. -Falzar FZ- (talk page|useful stuff) 11:27, July 18, 2012 (UTC)

Heh, I was starting to wonder when someone else would take that and finish it off. =D
I think we should probably use concepts for a lot of the queries before deploying it; that should help out with the template's "weight".
Well, there's Monster Type::!Tuner monster; have you tried that? ディノ千?!? · ☎ Dinoguy1000 16:52, July 18, 2012 (UTC)
After previewing it on a few Card Tips pages, I'm thinking we should somehow set it off from the rest of the page, moreso than just via an <hr/>; I'm thinking either a box (my preference) or a separate section. This would more easily allow us to add a note stating that the searcher info is added by a template and point people to a place to report omissions and inaccuracies. What do you think? ディノ千?!? · ☎ Dinoguy1000 18:51, July 18, 2012 (UTC)
Total Monsters = 0
Tuners = 0
∴ Total non-Tuner monsters = 0
 !Tuner monster = 0
I agree on the box and the rest.
Also, I've basically got a convert SMW list to the Searcher page list script done. A convert Searcher page list to auto-searched via template code is being worked on.
-Falzar FZ- (talk page|useful stuff) 03:53, July 19, 2012 (UTC)
Hmm... That's an interesting/weird problem. For now, I've fixed casing on type2 links/property values in CardTable2; if that doesn't help, I'll add an explicit "non-Tuner monster" value somewhere (maybe as another value for Property:Monster Type? that would make a lot of sense...). ディノ千?!? · ☎ Dinoguy1000 05:26, July 19, 2012 (UTC)
It's maybe because anything that doesn't have a Monster Type does not have "No Entry" (0). ! here refers to something like anything with a Monster Type, but not a Tuner monster. Things without anything doesn't count. -Falzar FZ- (talk page|useful stuff) 05:38, July 19, 2012 (UTC)
Right, I knew that (no I didn't =D ). Should be fixed now, though I won't promise that I didn't muck something up. =D ディノ千?!? · ☎ Dinoguy1000 05:47, July 19, 2012 (UTC)
Seems to work, the number of non-Tuners is increasing. Then again, how come it doesn't work with !Nomi... -Falzar FZ- (talk page|useful stuff) 06:22, July 19, 2012 (UTC)
I think it's because Property:Monster Type can only ever have one value, whereas Property:Summoning gets as many values as a card has summoning properties. ディノ千?!? · ☎ Dinoguy1000 07:42, July 19, 2012 (UTC)
Yes, that makes sense. !Nomi means has "something other than Nomi". So if it has Nomi/Cannot_Set, it does have "something other than Nomi", so it is not excluded.
Updated to complete list and simplified it a bit as well... and I just noticed another redundancy (Attribute::... Concept:Main Deck monsters) can be simplified to just Attribute. Same for Type, Level, ATK, DEF. -Falzar FZ- (talk page|useful stuff) 02:00, July 20, 2012 (UTC)
Ctrl+F "--><!--" in the source for the skipped cards which can't really be done via the query (or weird stuff I haven't bothered with :P like "Contact Out")
-Falzar FZ- (talk page|useful stuff) 02:00, July 20, 2012 (UTC)
For Machina Armored Unit, I would say just add it for all monsters; there are only maybe a couple dozen cases at most that it would be incorrect. I really can't say how to handle the others. ディノ千?!? · ☎ Dinoguy1000 03:35, July 20, 2012 (UTC)
Unless I missed a few things, I actually get 2 exclusions for that. The rest of the comments are on the "Check" page. -Falzar FZ- (talk page|useful stuff) 02:16, July 21, 2012 (UTC)
I'm counting 8 cards you'd have to exclude, based on what's listed there. That's not terrible for listing out manually in the template, but the list would have to be checked/updated every time a new overpowered Machine-Type monster got unveiled. ディノ千?!? · ☎ Dinoguy1000 03:50, July 21, 2012 (UTC)
6 of them are either Extra Deck monsters or Nomi, so they would have been filtered out anyways so they don't need to be manually excluded. -Falzar FZ- (talk page|useful stuff) 03:56, July 21, 2012 (UTC)

The 2 that are Main Deck monsters and listed in "Can always be Special Summoned", as mentioned on the page.
Mechanical Sea Dragon - Plesion, B.E.S. Big Core MK-2
I've already excluded those two from "Searches" list on the "Check" page. -Falzar FZ- (talk page|useful stuff) 04:36, July 21, 2012 (UTC)
Just "Broken Blocker" and "Future Fusion" left.
The only simple solution I can think of for "Broken Blocker" is letting the Card Table template do it.
For "Future Fusion", I'm not sure why !No Entry doesn't work, when all the No Entry ones should only have one value, which is the No Entry value. Alternatively, if we remove No Entry from "Fusion Material for", Fusion Material for::~* won't work since it has datatype Page, not String.
-Falzar FZ- (talk page|useful stuff) 12:09, July 22, 2012 (UTC)
Busy, recently, so I'll continue this slowly.
Should the concepts be grouped together (e.g. Level::<6 Attribute::DARK) or seperate for each (e.g. Level::<6 and then Attribute::DARK on a separate page)? Having them separate means we can create much less pages, but I'm not sure if there'll be a difference in "weight". -Falzar FZ- (talk page|useful stuff) 13:53, August 12, 2012 (UTC)
I don't know; I'm suddenly not sure what you're doing. What pages are you talking about to be created? ディノ千?!? · ☎ Dinoguy1000 14:16, August 12, 2012 (UTC)
The use of concepts was actually your suggestion (first reply). Take Wind-Up Magician for example.
The current line is:

Should concept pages be created separately, so that we end up using:

or grouped, so that we end up using:

-Falzar FZ- (talk page|useful stuff) 14:27, August 12, 2012 (UTC)
Aah, right. Thanks for reminding me.
I don't know which is better TBH; I haven't done nearly enough with Concepts yet to really have a feel for them. The original intention behind my suggestion, though, was for concepts like Concept:Pyramid Turtle Searchable Cards, rather than more generic concepts (in fact, the possibility of using more generic concepts actually hadn't occurred to me). CardTable 2 screw up the English Name

(Respond here, if you comment) Ok, now look what MediaWiki had done to the change. It can no longer simple called it "Controller Back-Fired", it is instead called "User:FredCat100/Create Cards/Memoir's Secret Cards/Controller Back-Fired". Holy hell, this is why I refused MediaWiki's asshole stuffs into this site in first place! But no, they continued and continued to shoving their ridiculous toys into this site! I don't care if you think they will fixing it - THEY NEVER EVER FIXING THE SHIT STUFFS! Look at Cards images, right side stretched - not fixed! Each time I tried to typing in the symbol, like "( )" or comma/quotation while inside the link list (Like this Luna (ZEXAL), if it was droplist, it refused to let me put the "( )" in until I deleted the [[ part, fuck it.) I am still called them waste of the time and waste of the equipments. They are downgrade rather than upgrade, fuck!

So now, rant over, would you be happy to help me get them to just "Card Name here" instead of "Link URL here". If there are no way, then it's time for them (MediaWiki and their toys) to leaving this site. --iFredCat 21:46, July 25, 2012 (UTC)

Oh well, guess I went over the head. But still, other details I gave out are true still. No "( )" nor quotation to get the full list in? That's just stupid move they did. Why they made the image stretching to the right (our right, not their right) and why the site width ain't CHANGING at all? It's just stuck to same size no matter how bigger the screen would be. That's very clumsy size anywhere. --iFredCat 21:53, July 25, 2012 (UTC)

Card Appearances Links

Would there be any way to generate a list of articles that have Card Appearances pages linked in Decklist (or even just in mainspace articles)? It was common before we opened the anime/manga lore parameters by default. I thought I had gotten all of them, but I just found another one this morning at PaniK. I'd like to make sure I didn't miss any more of them. Thanks. And happy belated birthday. Cheesedude (talkcontribs) 14:37, August 5, 2012 (UTC)

Thanks. That category appears to be empty. Did we get them all already or have they just not started appearing yet? I based the "belated" on my perspective. I read the previous happy birthday post yesterday (though since I went to bed a bit after midnight, it was technically today). So, yeah. Cheesedude (talkcontribs) 23:31, August 5, 2012 (UTC)
Since we can't currently see how much is in the job queue, it's really not possible to say either way. Hey, guess what? (archetypes again)

See Talk:Yu-Gi-Oh! ZEXAL - Episode 067. I asked Ark about it. Apparently, anime cards don't even specify furigana, which means that what we currently have as "Heraldic" and "Medallion" actually all belong to another larger archetype supported by "Heraldic Beast Twin-Head Eagle", with "Heraldic" also having several of its own support cards and "Medallion" having none (and "Heraldic Beast" having even more still).
Do you recall any examples of anime cards specifying furigana in archetypes? I wasn't aware that they didn't. Cheesedude (talkcontribs) 01:22, August 14, 2012 (UTC)
I don't see furigana on any of the kanji in the image we have of Twin-Head Eagle, other than its name; this may be a case of the anime leaving out a non-essential element to simplify animation. I would want to see a specific example of a support card in the anime supporting a card that is not part of the archetype that support card supports in the real-life game due to furigana differences, before coming to the conclusion that anime support effects ignore the furigana. If it is true, though, that just made anime archetype support that much more complicated. =P
I don't generally pay much attention to anime card images, so I can't recall any off the top of my head. We'll probably need to just take a random sample of recent anime cards and see what's up with them that way. ディノ千?!? · ☎ Dinoguy1000 01:45, August 14, 2012 (UTC)
This has nothing to do with real life cards yet. The support card is anime-only, the others are real life. "Heraldic Beast Twin-Head Eagle" was originally thought to only support "Heraldic" Xyz Monsters, which would exclude "Number 69: God Medallion Coat of Arms", which is the card Tron ultimately targets with it in today's episode (the only current "proper" target is "Number 8: Heraldic King Genome Heriter"). Looking closer at the image, it doesn't specify any furigana, so "God Medallion" is a valid target. It originally looked like an issue of an action in the anime directly contradicted what was written on the card. But since the card doesn't specify furigana, its actually legit. Cheesedude (talkcontribs) 02:11, August 14, 2012 (UTC)
Japanese lore of anime-only cards do not have furigana, probably to simplify animation. The effect of "Twin-Head Eagle" says 紋章 monsters. But just by looking its lore, we do not know if it is もんしょう or 紋章メダリオン. We know "Heraldic Beast Eale" supports もんしょう because Tron says "Monshō" not "Medarion". But Tron does not say "Monshō" or "Medarion" when he activates the effect of "Twin-Head Eagle". Since it is used with "Number 69: God Medallion Coat of Arms", I think it supports 紋章メダリオン. Similar, "Block Lock" does not support "Destiny HERO" monsters. ZingerZheng (talkcontribs) 02:16, August 14, 2012 (UTC)
Ah, that explains a lot. It supporting "Heraldic" was an assumption based on the fact that "Medallion" hadn't had any support yet then. Very fortunate, as that means there isn't another archetype to worry about here. Cheesedude (talkcontribs) 04:35, August 14, 2012 (UTC)

Token Template

Um, little problem. Y'know, in the article for tokens, the cards which go in "Summoned by the effect of" are separated by coma. But, in the case of "Fireball Token" for example, it is summoned by "Goka, the Pyre of Malice", which has a coma on its name. So, the template considers it as 2 different cards. :/ I tried to play around with the < nowiki > but it didn't work. :/ LegendaryAsariUgetsu (talkcontribs) 20:03, August 19, 2012 (UTC)

Crap, I was afraid of that happening. I could probably special-case that, but it's not an extensible solution; I'll have to figure out some better way of working around it (and in the meantime, there's always Delt's workaround). ディノ千?!? · ☎ Dinoguy1000 09:24, August 21, 2012 (UTC)
...And, of course, obvious solution is obvious. I'll just change the parameter to allow a bullet-delimited list instead (or rather, because of the fact that it's used widely as a comma-delimited parameter, "as well"), and we can switch that article over and get rid of the current hack. ディノ千?!? · ☎ Dinoguy1000 03:45, August 22, 2012 (UTC)

Image bull

Ok, someone needs to tell me what's going on with this. In Yu-Gi-Oh! ZEXAL - Episode 067, the article is perfectly content letting me have two images in the same paragraph - the one of the "ZW" monsters and the one of Tron. Later in the article, I attempt the same thing and it renders as one huge paragraph if I put two images in it. Instead, I had to break up the paragraphs. I can't tell what's causing it and it pisses me off that it works fine the first time and then doesn't work later. I cannot figure it out and its impacting how the articles look. That's about what I suspected after seeing the list, but thanks for confirming. Can you say whether they didn't appear because they got shafted when ZEXAL supplanted 5D's (or 5D's supplanted GX; I'm not too sure on the timing here), or did they just never seem to be featured because other cards were getting all the focus? ディノ千?!? · ☎ Dinoguy1000 01:48, August 29, 2012 (UTC)
I don't really know. It strikes me that they would have been hard to use in the anime - taking two turns before they could use their effects. Anime Duels tend to be quicker. They don't fit a realistic amount of monsters into a single Duel as it is sometimes, so taking two turns to even be able to fully use one monster wouldn't help. As far as I know, the only ones that even appeared were "Gigaplant" in a flashback, "Crusader of Endymion" (seen twice, once in 5D's and once in ZEXAL, by random passerby Duelists) and (according to our Gemini monster page, at least) "Phoenix Gearfried" in a WRGP poster. One Gemini was even named after a GX anime character, but he never ended up using it, outside of the Tag Force games. Cheesedude (talkcontribs) 02:03, August 29, 2012 (UTC)

New template for cards

LegendaryAsariUgetsu (talkcontribs) 16:52, August 26, 2012 (UTC)

I've been skimming it as you guys have been discussing; basically, you're looking for an analog to Unofficial name/Unofficial lore, except to be used on effects that have been reconstructed based on what the character(s) say and what the card does, right (or am I misunderstanding what you're looking for)? I can try something for that after a bit. ;) ディノ千?!? · ☎ Dinoguy1000 16:56, August 26, 2012 (UTC)
Yes, that. Cause y'know, we can't know the exact stats and lores of cards if the cards aren't shown, so we have to try deducing them for many cards from the anime and manga. Basically, we were thinking on a template like those that show the card's name/lore is not official, which showed the exact lore/effects of the card aren't know; what we add on the card article is merely deduced with what was shown in the series. LegendaryAsariUgetsu (talkcontribs) 17:53, August 26, 2012 (UTC)
So, how's this sound for the actual text of the template?
This card's effect in the [anime|manga|anime and manga] was never shown directly; the effect listed here is a reconstruction and may not be accurate or complete.

Do you think this template should be used for not-known-if-it's-a-normal-or-effect-monster cards as well? I mean, monsters that appeared in the anime/manga, but the card was never shown, and the effect never activated, so we treat them as Normal Monsters, but they may be effect monster as well. "Three-Stage Belly Knight" was a normal monster since his debut in Rank 14, but in Rank 17, Yuma used its effect, and the card was shown, then it is an effect monsters. So, do you think this new template should be used for cases like this as well? LegendaryAsariUgetsu (talkcontribs) 00:54, August 29, 2012 (UTC)

Ok, I'm a bit confused now. Why is this being used for cards that do have their full effects disclosed on the card, like "Twin Pillar of Ice"? Yeah, it's a vague manga effect, but it's still the real, official effect. Cheesedude (talkcontribs) 23:17, August 29, 2012 (UTC)
I'm not sure; I only intended it to be used for cards whose effect text was never explicitly shown on-screen/-page. I think for stuff like Twin Pillar, we need one lore field for the effect as-printed, and another for a reconstruction based on its observed effect(s), with the reconstructed lore field always accompanied by the disclaimer template. That would allow us to automate its inclusion, and also to distinguish completely between the two cases. ディノ千?!? · ☎ Dinoguy1000 23:22, August 29, 2012 (UTC)
Oh, I added the template to that one 'cuz, well, the actual effect was not shown. The lore literally reads "Two pillars of ice emerge on your field." This is not a Yu-Gi-Oh! effect, it's a real life event. The actual effect is not precisely known, we just know that one pillar can negate an attack, but we don't know if there are other effects, limitations, drawbacks, etc. So, we don't know the actual effect accurately. LegendaryAsariUgetsu (talkcontribs) 23:37, August 29, 2012 (UTC)
Ah, ok, that does make sense then. I think we could word the displayed text better though. "May not be accurate" can easily be interpreted by readers as "lolz, we guessed!". Which I suppose is true. So, with that totally different skin, I just screwed it up. :P Although the detailed links to the left on the main page and to the top on card articles look pretty nice. It's more practical. There is another skin I like better than Monobook myself, called Vector; it was developed specifically to supplant Monobook and to help with accessibility/usability, but apparently Wikia will have no part of that, at least for the forseeable future. If you're curious, though, Vector is the skin used on e.g. Wikipedia. ディノ千?!? · ☎ Dinoguy1000 02:09, August 29, 2012 (UTC)

Not really. Most of what Fred's pissed at is Wikia's fumbling of an update, rather than new or changed features on the MediaWiki side. You can't blame him for confusing the two, though. ディノ千?!? · ☎ Dinoguy1000 02:26, August 29, 2012 (UTC)
LegendaryAsari, you rang?
Not exact just to Fumbling of an update, but also what Asari said. You both are actually right, I am pissing off at anything MediaWiki threw at us. They still don't get the quotation in the link, like "Harpie's Feather Duster", and if it was drop list then I pushed ' in "Harpie's" word, it didn't added and the drop list disappeared - wasted my pushing for nothing! That's other thing they need to get it working. Other part, Width Size on Wikia... is still the issues. --iFredCat 17:04, August 29, 2012 (UTC)
There's also the new system for viewing files, which didn't improve it in nothing, it's the opposite. My internet connection's quality depends on the time, so when it is not good, it take me a lot just to open a file in order to edit it or copy the name. Before, I just had to click, and done. I've seen no actually good neither necessary changes made recently. LegendaryAsariUgetsu (talkcontribs) 22:07, August 29, 2012 (UTC)
While those are valid concerns, the problem with apostrophes in names is a problem with Semantic MediaWiki, which is completely separate from MediaWiki (in spite of the name), and the problem with viewing files is Wikia's idiocy in insisting on social-network-ifying MediaWiki. ディノ千?!? · ☎ Dinoguy1000 22:13, August 29, 2012 (UTC)

That was not my intent and I apologize. I did not mean to sound as if I was not considering your point of view. The fact is, I held that point of myself some time ago. You can see that from the forum discussion I linked to. I even flip-flopped later, as you saw on the Djinn talk page. Myself and Dinoguy are the primary "archetype guys" here, so yes, I feel personally invested in this, which I could make me sound arrogant about that. Again, I apologize. I'm better in small talks than big crowds. Even online I feel the fear of being lost in the crowd. By the time I write a response to one person nearly 4 or 5 other people will have already commented and I point is then moot. Just a small phobia of mine. Going back to our previous conversion for a second, Do you think a person who created a deck based on the Roids would include Necroid, Android, and Jeroid? Doubtful, they do little to none for the deck.--Rocket.knight.777 (talkcontribs) 17:08, August 29, 2012 (UTC)
Japan name, Knight 777, it's Japan names. They shared same names in Japan language, like Goldy once told me about "Photon Generator Unit"; though it's not major to "Photon" (name), it is for "Cyber Dragon" series. --iFredCat 17:10, August 29, 2012 (UTC)
I am going by Japanese names FredCat. And even then, I'm sure the Japanese players would only use the cards that fit the theme and not the name. The artists behind the cards didn't go to the trouble of making the cards in an archetype similar for nothing. Name, support, AND theme are and/or should be the what makes the archetype. This is Rocket Knight FYI, can log in, in a hurry for class.--131.183.107.139 (talk) 17:46, August 29, 2012 (UTC)

would there be any difference if it is removed? so far, i do not see any difference (please educate me if there is). furthermore, setlist being created by deltaneos also do not have the scope="col" in it. hope to clarify this asap, whether we really need it. thanks for helping! -Lpoi (talkcontribs) 04:08, August 31, 2012 (UTC)

The scope attribute is a purely semantic one, meaning it has no visual effect in any major browser. Instead, it is meant to clarify the relationship between a header cell and the rest of the table: any given table header cell generally describes the data that is found in the accompanying row or column, information that is important for screen readers and other assistive browsers. More info can be found on any number of HTML reference sites, e.g. [3], and the specification is here. ディノ千?!? · ☎ Dinoguy1000 04:24, August 31, 2012 (UTC)

I'm wondering if we shouldn't incorporate an automatic (anti-)support list for cards into the redesign... Currently, we aren't doing anything with that info when it only applies to individual cards, and most people don't know about using #ask et al. to discover the info, so it's not doing a whole lot of good at the moment. ディノ千?!? · ☎ Dinoguy1000 01:22, September 4, 2012 (UTC)
I had been thinking about taking one feature from the factbox and moving it into parts of the article. In the support categories, we'd have "Dark Magician http://yugioh.wikia.com/extensions/SemanticMediaWiki/skins/images/searchgray_iconsmall.png" and hovering over the magnifying glass would change it to "http://yugioh.wikia.com/extensions/SemanticMediaWiki/skins/images/search_icon.png", which would link to a query in either Special:SearchByProperty or Special:Ask. -- Deltaneos (talk) 01:41, September 4, 2012 (UTC)

Question regarding Template:Decklist

Hi, I come from another wiki who is impressed by your Template:Decklist and I wish to ask exactly how exactly you made it. See we tried something similar with this but it seems to not work. Ricky Spanish (talkcontribs) 02:24, September 6, 2012 (UTC)

Well, first it's important to keep in mind that I personally am not the one who created Decklist, though I have cleaned up its code and added some functionality. The general idea behind it is pretty simple, though: an outer, "wrapper" box, which contains three instances of Navbox (or your equivalent template of choice), one for each category of card (Monster, Spell/Magic, Trap). The Monster box can optionally be divided up into types of monsters (Normal, Effect, Fusion, etc.), and there are also optional count parameters for each of the card categories, but other than that, what I listed before is really all there is to it.
I can't really say anything about what might be wrong with your template unless you tell me what happens when you try to use it versus what you expect to happen (linking to an example usage would also help some), though I can say you'll have less to keep track of if you use HTML tags for the table instead of wikimarkup, since HTML doesn't have to be escaped to work properly with ParserFunctions (meaning you can lose all of the , which will make the code much more readable). ディノ千?!? · ☎ Dinoguy1000 07:52, September 6, 2012 (UTC)
Well the thing is, we based ours off yours however, when you use it, the positions unbalance if one has more than the other. As for the HTML thing is that the markups dont work when used with another template, so we opted for wiki markupsRicky Spanish (talkcontribs) 21:56, September 6, 2012 (UTC)
Okay, now I see what your problem is. Unfortunately, without some really, really ugly ParserFunctions, there is no way to avoid this while using tables. I can code up a fix if you want, but it'll increase the size of the template immensely and make it a million times harder to see what's actually going on in the code (and thus, that much harder to make fixes or add features). I would instead encourage you to look at alternate ways of presenting that information, e.g. in the infobox or something. ディノ千?!? · ☎ Dinoguy1000 23:13, September 6, 2012 (UTC)

Hello

I insinuated that some users brand it was cowardly for the reasons outlined by Pato M, in that it doesn't give fair response notification to the other party. I'm not suggesting that it 'is' cowardly, only that some users see it that way. How you reply to articles is none of my concern personally, I only pointed out how some users perceive a certain behaviour.--TwoTailedFox (My Talk Page)

Minor suggestion

So, yeah, minor suggestion, but maybe would it be good to have a " | cover =" option to add on the template for tankōbon volumes of the manga, where we put the characters and cards that appear on the cover? (e.g. for Yu-Gi-Oh! ZEXAL - Volume 001, it'd be " | cover = Yuma Tsukumo, Astral"; for Yu-Gi-Oh! GX - Volume 001, it'd be " | cover = Jaden Yuki, "Elemental HERO Terra Firma"). Just wondering. =)

AND, by the way, is it only for me that the "release date" of the volume articles of all manga series have a problem? They show "" instead of just the date... :/ LegendaryAsariUgetsu (talkcontribs) 01:17, September 8, 2012 (UTC)

That's one thing I was planning to add whenever I got around to creating Infobox volume as a replacement for whatever template we're currently using for volumes. ;) If you want it badly enough, though, I'm fine with adding it now instead of waiting, especially since I can't say when I might actually get around to working on that template.
I think it might be better to have separate parameters for characters versus monsters, but haven't given it that much thought, so there could be good reasons to use a single parameter instead.
That's because Negref is disabled (as it has been since we were upgraded to 1.19. Wikia has yet to make even an acknowledgement of that, as far as I know, so there's no word on when it might finally be fixed. ディノ千?!? · ☎ Dinoguy1000 02:39, September 8, 2012 (UTC)
No hurry actually, just an idea which passed through my mind.
I don't know if separating characters and cards is much needed. The cards are written between quotation marks after all, so they can be distinguished. But if you think it'd be better to make them separated, no problem. LegendaryAsariUgetsu (talkcontribs) 15:54, September 8, 2012 (UTC)

Remade SVG Icons

They can be found at User:Falzar FZ/SVG. There is one problem though, and that is the WIND icon. If you look at the raw svg file, you can see that it looks awesome :P
but when you use it on a page, wikia converts it to a png, and it doesn't actually work very well. Thoughts on why that happens (when the EARTH icon using the same technique works fine)?
-Falzar FZ- (talk page|useful stuff) 06:04, September 18, 2012 (UTC)

Cool, I'll try to remember to switch to these later (unless Delt or someone else beats me to it). =)
Just out of curiosity, would you be willing to create OCG/TCG Attribute icons for the other official languages (French, German, Italian, Portuguese, Spanish, and Korean should do it, I think, unless other-language anime dubs also use localized icons)? This is something I've wanted for a while, but never got around to asking anybody for them. As far as naming, I think "ATTRIBUTE-LN.svg" (with the Attribute name in all-caps, and the language/region tag per the image policy) should work fine.
Not really; my only thought is that it's some sort of bug with the software Wikia uses to handle SVGs (Wikimedia uses Imagemagick, IIRC, but I don't know what Wikia uses). I'm not sure why the WIND icon would trigger it while the EARTH icon doesn't, though; I really don't know much about SVGs so I'm probably not the best person to ask, for once (gasp!). =) ディノ千?!? · ☎ Dinoguy1000 06:14, September 18, 2012 (UTC)

-Falzar FZ- (talk page|useful stuff) 08:22, September 18, 2012 (UTC)
For the Normal Property icon, would you be okay with removing the "N", so that it's just a blank circular icon? As far as I know the "N" is never used officially and if I recall correctly in some video games when you filter cards by Property, "Normal" just uses a blank circle. That might need double checking though. Your SVGs are awesome, by the way. -- Deltaneos (talk) 17:39, September 18, 2012 (UTC)
So File:Normal.png was custom made?
The page on Normal Spell Card, it says "some video games they use" the N version. So maybe it'll be useful somewhere.

I'm wondering if they're from DOR, though if that's the case, I don't know where the Psychic icon is from.
I thought about that, but the only way to reasonably do so would be to either stretch the PNGs (resulting in atrocious rendering) or shrink the SVGs, which in most cases would almost defeat the purpose since the PNGs are usually no larger than about 34 pixels to a side. Besides, not overriding the sizes also allows them to be compared on the basis of size, and provides an at-a-glance reference of which PNGs we could stand to have better versions of. ;)
From that, I found [5], which clearly shows it in the context of a printed card. Keeping in mind my German is next to nonexistent, I would say it's "GÖTTLICH", with the umlaut/dieresis.

I know. I was thinking about that before I created the page, but while actually working on it, it slipped my mind. That's probably more to do with the fact that we have been far more lax in the past in regards to non-free file usage. In addition, many of the pages in the Project namespace (Featured Card and Latest Set) are used as pseudo-articles and so should probably be treated as articles from the perspective of policy. ディノ千?!? · ☎ Dinoguy1000 01:39, September 23, 2012 (UTC)

-Falzar FZ- (talk page|useful stuff) 03:16, September 27, 2012 (UTC)
The black and white ones were copied straight from the rulebook pdf, which was entirely in black and white. I wouldn't mind having colour versions. Although I think we don't have any images with colour Fire, Water, Wind or Wood icons currently uploaded for you to work with. -- Deltaneos (talk) 13:31, September 27, 2012 (UTC)
Unless we're missing some cards, there aren't any cards with those icons in existence. Also note that the same icon is colored differently depending on what scan you're looking at (for instance, Dark seems to trade off between black and dark blue); I don't know if there's any significance to this or even if it's not just an artifact of the scanning. ディノ千?!? · ☎ Dinoguy1000 23:22, September 27, 2012 (UTC)
Re-colouring is done very easily on SVGs so I could estimate them for now, or since they're not going to be used anyways, leave them until a card using it is available, I don't really mind either way. -Falzar FZ- (talk page|useful stuff) 11:46, September 28, 2012 (UTC)

Hello, first I would like to thank you for protecting the Turtle Bird page.  However, that excessive vandalism makes me ask you something.  As much as I tried to undo edits, it was becoming too much, I was just lucky could get some help.  By any chance, could I get some sort of tool to help around the wiki?  Just something that would make undoing edits easier.  Thank you for your time. I've given you the rollback user right, which should help out in the future; it allows you to revert vandalism with a single click instead of two (though generally, you should only use it for obvious vandalism, since it doesn't allow you to change the edit summary). Hey Dinoguy, I'm using Wikia look and the Featured Videos have been bugging me ever since they were introduced. It would have to be manual from here, in order to retain the links used in the lore and also quite a few aren't lore changes, they are errors on the lore we have here. They'll also have to create a list of actual erratas, not just errors.
If it were posted on the forum with a suggestion that people take sections (i.e. A-E, F-J, etc) and update/compile that, it's not actually a large task.
Though I probably won't be helping for a while, now that I have 2 largish assignments due in 5 days. -Falzar FZ- (talk page|useful stuff) 06:53, September 26, 2012 (UTC)
Aah, well, your assignments obviously take priority over anything going on here. ;)
For that, the formatting will have to be cleaned up: card names should be linked, the name/lore pairs need to be separated somehow so they aren't just an impenetrable wall of text, changed lores should be marked somehow, headers should be added at appropriate intervals to visually break up the list and simplify navigation, and the whole thing needs split across several, much more sanely sized pages; this all needs to be done before we look at recruiting help. ディノ千?!? · ☎ Dinoguy1000 08:11, September 26, 2012 (UTC)

I just now realized that "Entering the Battlefield" was treated as "Summon" in Yu-Gi-Oh! word when I studied "Contagion Clasp", which is just an Artifact (not a Creature). At the first time when I read "Entering the Battlefield", I thought it meant for "enter the Battle Phase" pattern. But thanks to this Artifact, I changed. Heh, yeah, I've noticed the similarities between YGO and MtG. Have you tried Googling for information at all? For instance, google:magic the gathering regeneration turns up w:c:mtg:Regeneration (Ability), and google:magic the gathering transformation turns up w:c:mtg:Transform; I'm sure there are plenty of other resources that would explain these concepts pretty clearly, that can be found just by looking through more results or tweaking the search queries. ディノ千?!? · ☎ Dinoguy1000 21:29, September 26, 2012 (UTC)

Like, "Lswarm, run!" don't mean that it's such to be -lswarm or shit. --iFredCat 22:15, September 28, 2012 (UTC)

Well, archetype names are proper nouns, so they don't precisely follow the general capitalization rules for English text. In addition, we follow the capitalization for proper nouns set out in official media, so if an archetype name is consistently rendered in lowercase, we should also do so, even if it appears at the beginning of a sentence. ;) ディノ千?!? · ☎ Dinoguy1000 04:39, September 29, 2012 (UTC)

As I've said a number of times elsewhere, Navigation2 and Navigation3 are intended only to be substituted, as a shorthand for Navigation.
Per its documentation, Navigation3 is equivalent to , and is used for Bandai, DDM, and VG-only cards; there is no shorthand for mode=token. ディノ千?!? · ☎ Dinoguy1000 04:40, September 29, 2012 (UTC)

Right. Those are old templates (and categories) based on a system that Wikipedia used at that time for categorizing redirects; AFAIK I was the only one ever pushing the system here (and if you look at my old contributions, you'll see I didn't do much in that direction). Frankly, I have no idea at this point whether this is something we'd really want to pursue; I don't even know if it's still done on Wikipedia. ディノ千?!? · ☎ Dinoguy1000 06:27, October 12, 2012 (UTC)

There's nothing I can do about this, unfortunately; it would require the search to actually be able to *parse* pages, rather than simply matching according to terms that appear (or don't appear) on the page in question. But some of them will end up sounding very clunky if we don't reverse the words. "Change Heraldry" sounds bad, "Heraldry Change" or "Change of "Heraldry" sounds much better. Do you have an opinion on which of the three styles we should use. Cheesedude (talkcontribs) 00:02, November 1, 2012 (UTC)

I thought we normally waited to get a card's official English name before renaming it to use the official English archetype name (to avoid having to rename cards more times than necessary)... Am I wrong?
If I am mistaken, though, I personally like "Heraldry Change" the best. ディノ千?!? · ☎ Dinoguy1000 01:11, November 1, 2012 (UTC)
Previously, once one member of an archetype is known, we've renamed all other members accordingly, so as not to have archetype pages appearing to contradict themselves. I don't ever recall a case where we've waited, actually.
I'm usually against any other changes and just do a straight-up word replacement, but doing that in this case just sounds wrong somehow. Cheesedude (talkcontribs) 03:01, November 1, 2012 (UTC)
Okay then, I'm not sure where I got that impression. I just seem to recall a discussion somewhere where that was more or less said; I guess I imagined it or something. =D ディノ千?!? · ☎ Dinoguy1000 03:05, November 1, 2012 (UTC)
It very well could have happened, but apparently myself and everyone else that renames card articles never saw it. But given how topics get lost in the forums and on talk pages, I could actually see that happening. XD. Cheesedude (talkcontribs) 03:09, November 1, 2012 (UTC)
When "Evilswarm" was revealed as the TCG name for the Verz, the majority wanted to wait to rename members so that names wouldn't need to be moved extra times. But then certain people disregarded that and renamed them all anyway. My personal opinion is that if English names will imminently (within a few weeks or so) be revealed, those pages should not be changed, but for those that won't be known for months or more, we make appropriate renames for consistency's sake. --Golden Key (talkcontribs) 19:01, November 1, 2012 (UTC)
That's probably the discussion I was thinking of; thanks for the pointer. ディノ千?!? · ☎ Dinoguy1000 19:06, November 1, 2012 (UTC)

In the meantime, I have to ask why you don't ever seem to take advantage of jQuery in your JS code for the wiki? I first noticed this in your auto-signing code, but didn't bother asking then. ディノ千?!? · ☎ Dinoguy1000 19:21, November 10, 2012 (UTC)

Aah, I figured that might've been your reason. While you won't get much in the way of advanced jQuery usage, you can start gleaning some tidbits by looking over some of the other code in Common.js, if you're interested in learning some. =) ディノ千?!? · ☎ Dinoguy1000 23:17, November 10, 2012 (UTC)

Hi

Hey Phillip, how's it hanging? Mood fabulous? Life perfect? Got laid yet? (totally rhetorical questions, don't bother answering...)

Ever lost a bookmark? Actually, do you even use bookmarks? Anyway, I accidentally found a long-forgotten bookmark today and it led me all the way back here. Though this time I thought I'd be the one to say hello. Don't take everything I say too seriously, 'kay?

Except for this last part. Fred just informed me that your prestigious group of admins just increased (or is about to, couldn't really figure out) by two members. Which reminded me that you are an admin as well. Listen, I have a favour to ask of you. If I remember correctly, it is among your options to delete pages from this wiki, correct? If that's still the case, I would very much like you to delete any and all of my subpages. Y'know, all those that begin with "User:Monte.../". It's not urgent or anything, you can do it whenever you like. Assuming it's not too much trouble and you can do it. --ΜοntΕchrísTο95 01:01, November 11, 2012 (UTC)

[insert squicky answers here]
I have a ton of bookmarks, and use a fair number of them regularly (though mostly for webcomics, I must confess). I'm sure I've lost some of them over time, and I came ridiculously close to losing all of them a few months back (installed some software that saw fit to install a toolbar in all my browsers, which then proceeded to log my profile out of Google Chrome... which is tied to my Google Accounts profile... which used a randomly-generated, 100-character-long password that inadvertently hadn't been stored anywhere, so I had to reset the password, which required wiping whatever browser data was tied to my Google Accounts account =P ).
Yeah, that's no problem, though I can't help but ask why. ;) ディノ千?!? · ☎ Dinoguy1000 01:08, November 11, 2012 (UTC)

<br />

So, recently there been a problem with <br /> or <br> in the Featured cards section of the episode. I was wondering if this was a bug or a glitch. I notice this problem when I created a Featured cards for episode 218. At first, I ignored, but it continue to create huge blank space. When I look back at previous episode, it start to affect some of the Featured cards. It shouldn't have create a huge blank space, but instead it should be like episode 200 in which there aren't any blank space and everything is in order. I don't understand how this wasn't affect yet, but can you fix this problem? WinterNightmare (talkcontribs) 19:14, November 16, 2012 (UTC)

It seems the parser has been changed to add a <p><br></p> between instances of Decklist, though it doesn't happen on every instance (it would actually be more general than that, but I don't feel particularly like exploring for the boundary conditions for the insertion). The solution, for now at least, is to remove the br. ディノ千?!? · ☎ Dinoguy1000 22:39, November 16, 2012 (UTC)
Ok, I will go through all the episode and remove some of the br. WinterNightmare (talkcontribs) 22:42, November 16, 2012 (UTC)
Actually, I think I figured out what the problem was. The problem is the Decklist with |monster alone. If the Decklist is with monster, magic or spell, traps, the problem doesn't occur. But if the Decklist just have monster, then the problem occur which will cause huge blank space. WinterNightmare (talkcontribs) 23:07, November 16, 2012 (UTC)
I noticed that on the ep 218 article, though there shouldn't be anything about the coding of Decklist that causes it. I wonder if it also happens in cases where Decklist only has either Magic/Spells or Traps listed. ディノ千?!? · ☎ Dinoguy1000 23:15, November 16, 2012 (UTC)
[6], Decklist that only has either Magic/Spells or Traps listed aren't affect. Just the monster alone is affect. WinterNightmare (talkcontribs) 23:33, November 16, 2012 (UTC)
Just some lines breaks between #if: parsers, which got interpreted as new paragraphs when enough of them were grouped together.
Related; we have suggested before that the template should automatically add some space, so we don't need to separate uses with <br /> tags, but couldn't decide on how to overwrite it for Side Decks, which usually don't have a space between themselves and Main Decks. -- Deltaneos (talk) 12:58, November 17, 2012 (UTC)

Follow to Watch

Was this change spurred by the forking topic? Not sure if you're done with the changes yet, but after clicking "Watch" on the wikia toolbar, it still changes to "Following" rather than "Watching". --Golden Key (talkcontribs) 19:36, November 23, 2012 (UTC)

Yep. Before Sannse mentioned it, I'd never really considered changing it back via the interface messages. =)
I noticed that. I don't think I missed any interface messages (I paged through Special:AllMessages, Ctrl+F'ing for "follow"), so I suspect it's the JS using hardcoded strings, which I don't know how to fix (Falzar might be able to, since he seems to have a better grasp on JS than me, but I dunno if he'll bother with something so ultimately minor). ディノ千?!? · ☎ Dinoguy1000 19:45, November 23, 2012 (UTC)

Languages on cards

I'm all for that to be put into motion, but I had some ideas I wanted to test, to see if they can be incorporated to help automate some pages (like Card Set Ratios). I'll strike up a dummy template, and test on that.--TwoTailedFox (My Talk Page) 17:54, November 30, 2012 (UTC)

I've got a proof-of-concept at Template:LanguageTest (it's ugly and barren, but functional), but a lot of the additional information will only show after the database updates. I have to make some small additions to the CardTable (such as creating string properties, as the queries don't like page links). The testbed is at 2002 Booster Pack Tins, and so far, Dark Magician is the only one with the correct information filed in order for the queries over at Template:RatioAuto to work.--TwoTailedFox (My Talk Page) 19:22, November 30, 2012 (UTC)
We need properties on the card images to be able to search and/or numerically list the number of cards; we can't use the properties on the main card article itself, but it may be possible to use the same properties if we semantically acquire the data from the new text-only listings (as the page link ones didn't work); New properties were just a smaller headache, and an easier solution, partially because we don't need to worry about semantic cross-contamination, but if you want to reduce property counts, it should be possible to condense it. Also, one more thing, is Gold Rare now using -GR rather than GUR?--TwoTailedFox (My Talk Page) 19:45, November 30, 2012 (UTC)
Semantically transcribing the data would seem to be easier, then. Still need to work out a few little kinks (like flip effect monsters, which we've never semantically documented). Once the data is incorporated into existing template, I'll start a Blitz campaign to get our images updated, and where necessary, converted to use the correct file naming conventions.--TwoTailedFox (My Talk Page) 20:01, November 30, 2012 (UTC)

Subobject bugs

I've been messing around with the #subobjects a bit. It seems their main problem is a weird cache issue. w:c:smwtest:Blue-Eyes White Dragon has eight subobjects. But only four of them are ever applied at a time. Each time the page is edited, it switches between each quadruplet. If you refresh w:c:smwtest:Structure Deck: Kaiba and w:c:smwtest:Legend of Blue Eyes White Dragon between null edits, you'll see them lose and gain entries.

There's also a whitespace issue, where we have to put stuff right up against equals signs to stop values having a space at the beginning. -- Deltaneos (talk) 15:27, December 2, 2012 (UTC)

Although that whitespace bug seems to be a result of multiple permissible spaces building up.

{{Card table set/core
| set_number =[space]{{ #if: {{r|{}}} ||[space]{} }}
...
}}

{{ #subobject: ...
| Set number =[space]{}
...
}}

-- Deltaneos (talk) 15:34, December 2, 2012 (UTC)

Does the number of subobjects that get applied depend on the total number set, or does it seem to max out at four regardless of the total?
Ugh, more whitespace shenanigans. >_>
We could always go the multiple properties route at first here, and later switch to subobjects if these problems get fixed or a workaround is found/shown to us. This would also let us experiment directly with subobjects without having to worry too much about messing up existing queries and whatnot. ディノ千?!? · ☎ Dinoguy1000 17:28, December 2, 2012 (UTC)
From a sample size of three, also including "Tri-Horned Dragon" with four and "Dark Magician" with five, it's always maxed out at four.
I think the Property:Set information is a better back up to the subobjects. That's the one that puts all the set information in one property and then uses string functions to extract the parts it needs. It can handle matching up rarity and number for cards with the same name from the same set, with different numbers and rarities; the two "Cyber Dragon" prints in Ra Yellow Mega-Pack and it doesn't need a few hundred properties. -- Deltaneos (talk) 21:06, December 2, 2012 (UTC)
That is all kinds of retarded. =/
I was actually referring to storing the info for the various media; I took it as implicit that we'd be using Property:Set information for the sets if we couldn't get the subobjects to work out right. ディノ千?!? · ☎ Dinoguy1000 21:16, December 2, 2012 (UTC)

"Treasure Cards"

Should the series be renamed to "Treasure Cards" instead of "Treasure Card"? --UltimateKuriboh (talkcontribs) 20:15, December 2, 2012 (UTC)

I really don't have much of an opinion; you might want to instead ask Ryusui, considering it sounds like a matter of translation. I do have to say, though, that my understanding of Japanese is that nouns are pluralized by context, as opposed to any sort of indication in the direct usage of the noun (such as adding a pluralizing suffix to most nouns in English). In addition, we generally use the singular form of terms and names for page names, so without a good translation-related argument or similar, we'd stick with the singular here, too. ディノ千?!? · ☎ Dinoguy1000 21:23, December 2, 2012 (UTC)

I see the difficulty in getting the Gallery SMW-ified. By rights, the input I'm using should be working... Unless I'm missing something.--TwoTailedFox (My Talk Page) 13:42, December 3, 2012 (UTC)

I was playing around quite a while ago with templateifying the <gallery/> tag, but never did much and don't remember if I ever actually got it working; the tack I was taking involved the parser function (and possibly a "/row"-like template for each individual image, I don't remember for sure). IIRC, though, I did come to the conclusion that it would probably be easiest to just use a template for the image descriptions, and have everything else done by hand. ディノ千?!? · ☎ Dinoguy1000 17:33, December 3, 2012 (UTC)

Good Ole' Booster Articles

Now with some bunch of latest packs have their fancy, easily to read details - so why not we do the same with some bunch of ole' packs, like LOB and Power of the Duelists, as well as the one that "Elemental HERO Air Neos" was featuring on? I think it's just because it takes time to reorganize everything into the new format. Some users have taken the initiative, but there are a lot of pages to do. It's too much of a bother for me, so I haven't jumped in. --Golden Key (talkcontribs) 13:28, December 4, 2012 (UTC)

LOB and a lot of the other really old boosters were actually converted by Deltaneos, as some of the first set pages to receive the treatment. I would be converting set pages myself, but it requires a decent amount more work than simply replacing the table with an infobox, including prose work, which isn't something I'm 100% comfortable with. ディノ千?!? · ☎ Dinoguy1000 18:28, December 4, 2012 (UTC)

If not, don't worry, as I said, it's not a big problem. Just to check.
By the way, do you know if Rank 24 of ZEXAL was already released in SJ Alpha? Last month's chapter didn't list the exact day it'd be released. :/ LegendaryAsariUgetsu (talkcontribs) 20:53, December 15, 2012 (UTC)

Did you try removing it via Special:EditWatchlist/raw? -Falzar FZ- (talk page|useful stuff) 21:01, December 15, 2012 (UTC)
I had pages like that from way back when some of the card info namespaces were introduced; I ended up having to fix it by blanking my entire watchlist, removing the offending titles from the copy I'd made first, and re-adding the modified list (all via Special:EditWatchlist/raw, BTW).
Unfortunately, I'm more than a month behind on WSJA, so I actually know less than you. If the pattern has been holding, though, there should be one chapter in every fourth issue (though I'm not sure how that would work for months with five Mondays, like this month). DM1

Hey. I'm sure you've kept an eye on edits, just making you aware that I've added a dm1number option to CT2 (as it doesn't really impact the space the template takes up), if DM2 also has fixed card numbers, it would be easy to add them for DM2, as well.--TwoTailedFox (My Talk Page) 00:27, December 17, 2012 (UTC)

As far as I know, all the games in the Duel Monsters series use card numbers. The DM1 card list is reused card-for-card in DM2, and I suspect the same is done with DM2's card list in DM3, and so on, though I haven't looked yet.
One thing I've been wondering is if it would be worth uploading screens of the actual card list from DM1 (especially since it would be 73 images with each image listing 5 cards), since the list is the only place the card numbers actually appear associated with card names in-game.
On a semi-related note, being apparently the first person ever to look at making Game Genie-style cheats for a game is pretty interesting, to say the least. =D ディノ千?!? · ☎ Dinoguy1000 00:37, December 17, 2012 (UTC)
I have no objection to screens showing the card list, we can just plonk that in it's own gallery. Also, I'm wondering if it's a good idea to split off the Japanese Game names from the associated English game names; DM3, IIRC, was re-released as DDS in the Western World.--TwoTailedFox (My Talk Page) 00:43, December 17, 2012 (UTC)
Cool, I'll get to work uploading those after I figure out a reasonable naming scheme.
That's something else I've been debating; I think it comes down to whether there's any appreciable non-localization-related differences between the two versions (gameplay/storyline differences, changes to card stats or the card list, etc.). ディノ千?!? · ☎ Dinoguy1000 00:51, December 17, 2012 (UTC)
I'm leaning towards the renaming, due to the clear name and product art differences, but I'm open for a debate on that.--TwoTailedFox (My Talk Page) 01:21, December 17, 2012 (UTC)
This is the first time I've ever really looked at these old games, so I don't have much of an opinion to offer (yet, perhaps). =)
All the card list images are uploaded; see Category:Yu-Gi-Oh! Duel Monsters (video game) card list images. ディノ千?!? · ☎ Dinoguy1000 01:25, December 17, 2012 (UTC)
Also, one more thing; I've been looking at the unofficial card names we have in CT2. To save space, I'm wondering if it would be better to move them to the bottom, similar to statuses, etc. That way, they'd still be on the page, but it wouldn't be where we'd normally put "official" names. Obviously, we'd have to add conditional arguments to put French, etc names down the bottom when we don't have a frame of references (Such as the old Vol. Japanese cards).--TwoTailedFox (My Talk Page) 01:35, December 17, 2012 (UTC)
That's certainly an idea, though personally I'm not too interested in working on developing CT2 much more at this point, considering we're working to replace it. ディノ千?!? · ☎ Dinoguy1000 01:41, December 17, 2012 (UTC)
Nothing wrong with keeping ideas for the replacement in there. The *other* option, that you may find more appealing, is to keep the SMW values only, and use the Card Names namespace to "fetch" the name from the main article, and present it in greater detail.--TwoTailedFox (My Talk Page) 01:55, December 17, 2012 (UTC)
I'm not really sure what additional detail we could offer on the Card Names pages that couldn't be put directly on the card articles themselves, particularly after the redesign starts being deployed, though. The redesign will have provisions for showing a card's official name in every medium, and in every language each medium has been released in, plus a section devoted to unofficial translations that goes into a bit more detail (including, as needed, romanizations, translations, and interwiki links to other-language YGO wikis). I'm not necessarily against the idea, I've just never understood the point to the Card Names namespace that makes it better than either putting the info directly on the card article or on the card's Trivia page. ディノ千?!? · ☎ Dinoguy1000 02:05, December 17, 2012 (UTC)
It was more of a wish at the time to reduce load on the card article itself; if the redesign takes care of that, fine with me. This, however, you may be interested in. The idea of not being able to search by set is highly annoying, and this would at least go some way to solving that, whilst not adding clutter to CT2.--TwoTailedFox (My Talk Page) 02:33, December 17, 2012 (UTC)
That's something I've thought about for a very long time, and Delt and I are also working on it for the redesign; we think we've got it figured out so that we won't need even one property per set - Card table set and Property:Set information *should* allow us to do whatever we need. ディノ千?!? · ☎ Dinoguy1000 02:57, December 17, 2012 (UTC)
We have considered stuff similar to what's done in User:TwoTailedFox/Set Lookup before, but it has problems when the same card has different groups of information in the same set. e.g. The Legendary Collection 2 "Cyber Dragon" has two different set numbers, each with a different rarity. "Cyber Dragon" will have two values for "LCGX EN Set Number" and two for "APO1 EN Rarity Page" with no way of telling which corresponds to which.
What's currently in Card table set and Property:Set information is our second priority. The ideal solution would be to use SMW subobjects, but that part of SMW is too buggy at the moment. Both solutions group together the four properties for individual prints; set, number, rarity and language, and don't require us to create multiple new properties every time a new set is released.
-- Deltaneos (talk) 20:45, December 17, 2012 (UTC)
The issue might be addressed with the new 1.8 SMW version, as that's been coded for both 1.19 and 1.20 MW compatibility.--TwoTailedFox (My Talk Page) 22:36, December 17, 2012 (UTC)
Very nice pictures. Can I ask, did you find any evidence of cards called "Super Lair" or "Toon Exodia?" These names turn up on several cheat sites as "secret characters" of a sort for this game, and we've been puzzled about what's up with them for a while. Rod (talkcontribs) 01:30, December 17, 2012 (UTC)
Nope, the only secret cards I found any evidence of are number 351 through 365, and I just confirmed that if you have any one of these cards, all three pages' worth of list shows up on the in-game card list, so there's no room for another two secret cards. I've also confirmed that there's no card number 0; if you use a Game Genie-style cheat to give yourself some of that card, it just "unlocks" the entire card list, with all their amounts set to 0. However, while I was playing around trying to figure out how the cheats worked last night, I managed to add non-existent cards to my deck, including one with a card number in the 700s and one in the 800s, but both of these displayed garbage when you viewed them (but considering I was able to do that, I may be able to add e.g. card number 366 to my deck, just to see what it looks like). ディノ千?!? · ☎ Dinoguy1000 01:38, December 17, 2012 (UTC)

Duel summary template

Following from User talk:Dinoguy1000/Archive 5#ins and Duel summaries, I thought the whole subtemplate system was a messy, so I changed Duel summary to allow you to display ten turns at a time, after which you'd use another Duel summary and use {start} and {end} to say when to insert the the <dl> and </dl> tags. But now I don't think it's going to be obvious what to do with the start and end tags, particularly when editing a page to add more turns.

I think the longest Duel to date is 41 turns. Is that too much parameters for one template? We could make it slightly lighter on servers if we nested the ifs, so that #if: {} doesn't get checked unless #if: {} is true. Although that would make the template code kinda messy. -- Deltaneos (talk) 00:13, December 21, 2012 (UTC)

This is kind of why I prefer subtemplates for stuff like this: having an explicit opening and closing template makes it obvious how to add new entries, and having a one-entry subtemplate that gets called for each entry means we don't have to worry about the template supporting X entries, which also helps out on the server side, since each usage can use exactly the number of entry subtemplates it needs.
To answer your questions, though, I would say that, yes, 41 entries would be way too many for this template. Most duels are over after only a dozen or so turns, if that, so that would be a huge amount of extra weight for most pages. And nesting the #ifs to reduce the overall weight also has issues, even besides the code messiness that would result; we wouldn't be able to support more than about 20 turns that way due to the template expansion limit. ディノ千?!? · ☎ Dinoguy1000 00:46, December 21, 2012 (UTC)
Will your latest version of the template work for Duels with more than 20 turns, since the transclusions for all the turns except the first and last don't use "start" or "end"?
One way of ensuring "start" and "end" get used properly, would be if we used "start" to input the "Player 1 VS Player 2" title and the "Continued from previous episode/chapter" and "end" to input the result and the "Continued next episode/chapter". Although neither of those "start" uses are used on the Duel articles.
For your opening and closing template suggestion, should we have Duel start containing the <dl>, followed by multiple instances of Duel summary capped at 10 turns each, followed by Duel end containing the </dl>? -- Deltaneos (talk) 11:08, December 21, 2012 (UTC)
Ooh, no, I hadn't actually given that any thought. To make 21+-turn Duels work again, we'd either have to introduce a third "mid" parameter (or similar), or revert my change (which would then require <10-turn Duels to again use "start" and "end").
I was thinking about how we might support the "Continued..." text, but not to any significant degree.
I was thinking either or start, leaning towards the subtemplate approach. Either way, we could have the shorter titles redirect to the "proper", full form. And if we go this way, I would most prefer Duel summary itself to cover just a single turn; this, I think, gives us the greatest amount of flexibility over the long term. ディノ千?!? · ☎ Dinoguy1000 11:31, December 21, 2012 (UTC)
I see Wikipedia has a very similar series of templates: wikipedia:Template:Gloss. (If you happen to be logged into Wikipedia, could you please noinclude the content of that template. The indented documentation...) The main difference is the dt and the dd have separate templates. Do you think we should make this similar to that? -- Deltaneos (talk) 17:26, December 22, 2012 (UTC)
That's the general idea I was getting at, yes, though I didn't go so far as to propose generic utility templates. We definitely could do something like that, though, if you want, and then just have Duel summary as a wrapper template or something. ディノ千?!? · ☎ Dinoguy1000 22:04, December 22, 2012 (UTC)

Card replacements table

I was looking around for a table that work the Card replacements in the dub article. I found one that suits it at Deck Master ability. Yeah, that table's style is ancient. I can probably knock something together for the card replacements article if you give me a brief description of how you'd like it to look (mostly I'm just looking for what information should be included and how you think it should be presented); then you (and the other editors contributing to that article) can adjust it as needed. ディノ千?!? · ☎ Dinoguy1000 08:10, December 28, 2012 (UTC)

I've made some formatting changes to bring the table up to current practices. To my surprise, we don't have any classes in MediaWiki:Common.css that'll add the red background to the header cells for that table (the coloring is only added to cells that span more than one column), so I just left that out, but if you think the table works better with it, you can re-add the removed CSS. ディノ千?!? · ☎ Dinoguy1000 08:32, December 28, 2012 (UTC)
Nah, the red was unnecessary. The color is irrelevant to me, the red was remnant of the fact that that's what was used at Deck Master ability. Alright, thanks. What you've done has cleared up the code for me to the point that I should be able to modify the table now without asking you again. Cheesedude (talkcontribs) 17:11, December 28, 2012 (UTC)
And I've spoken to soon. I have a feeling I could do this with "rowspan" or whatever, but I need another cell to span the whole table top so we can insert the episode number. It didn't occur to me that we'd need that earlier. Cheesedude (talkcontribs) 17:17, December 28, 2012 (UTC)

Yes, we need to establish and ordering system for the new CardTable. That's always bugged me. I would say we should just go by release dates, but there's also the matter of the Tag Force and World Championship games. It may be preferred to group all of those together. Cheesedude (talkcontribs) 21:35, December 30, 2012 (UTC)
That's the plan; TF, WC, DM, True Duel Monsters and maybe one or two other game series (depending on what I can figure out as I develop the templates) are going to be grouped, e.g. TF card article and DM card. Considering there have been almost 50 YGO-related video games released, many of which have been released in multiple languages, this is really the only sane way of handling it. I haven't given a great deal of thought to ordering yet, but probably as close to ordering by release date as we can reasonably get given how they'll be combined will be the route we'll take. ディノ千?!? · ☎ Dinoguy1000 23:25, December 30, 2012 (UTC)

So are we just waiting until the new card article layout is rolled out to add a template for Greek and Croatian lores? --UltimateKuriboh (talkcontribs) 21:51, January 1, 2013 (UTC)

Basically. I don't know how closely you've ever looked, but unlike for card names, the only parameters CT2 has for card lores correspond to the languages/regions the OCG and TCG have been released in: Japanese, Korean, Chinese, Asian-English, English, French, German, Italian, Portuguese, and Spanish. Of course, this hasn't stopped people from using other language lore parameters as though they exist; I've seen a number of Thai lore parameters while editing, for instance.
That being said, the way we handle such information is going to change somewhat in the redesign: each language is getting its own tab, which means we have to control the number of tabs; to do that, we have to limit the languages to only those with official releases. So, for instance, for an OCG/TCG card, the available tabs are limited to the above list, and the used tabs for any given card are further constrained to those languages/regions that specific card has been released in. Unofficial/alternate translations of names and lores will instead be added in dedicated sections on each page, in a table allowing a certain amount of context to be provided for each one.
Now, if you know anything about the anime/manga, you'll know that they've been released in a ridiculous number of languages so far (and there are a number of problems with getting information on the releases, not least of which is simply confirming their existence most of the time!). In addition, my understanding is that many of the language releases of the anime are based on the edited English dub, which means there's nothing to visually identify the language - or the card's name in that language - on the cards shown; these problems are the main reasons I haven't started on Anime card or Manga card; I simply can't come up with any good way of working around them.

It seems a shame to see all that effort go to waste. I would be pretty annoyed if I was that anon. Can't you create a sub-page and put the stuff on there (and maybe correct it grammatically)? A subpage isn't the place for it to go (at least, not a subpage of that page); the best place for it would be on Yu-Gi-Oh! Forbidden Memories Gameplay. As for "all that effort", you said it yourself: FMR is a very old game, and I have my doubts as to whether anon actually researched and wrote up that information themselves; more likely is that it was copied and adapted from somewhere else. In any case, it's still all right there in the page history, so anyone who wants to salvage it and clean it up is more than welcome to (though they'll need to be mindful of attribution, which is another reason I just removed it instead of trying to do something with it). ディノ千?!? · ☎ Dinoguy1000 04:33, January 6, 2013 (UTC)

Errata?

Maybe this has been brought up before, but is there any way to fix the errata pages of cards so they don't need a "resize" box to be fully viewable? I ask this because according to FredCat, bold/italicize words can't be viewed in the resize box. I'm assuming the words can be colored in the re-size box, but that is a no-go, since there could be color-blind people viewing the site. Intuitively, I think there should be a simple solution. Or is this an issue that will be addressed with the new formatting of the site? --UltimateKuriboh (talkcontribs) 20:49, January 11, 2013 (UTC)

Don't make me headbutt you over the universe. It's not box viewable; it's multiple boxes that is a problem - I can only handle up to 3 or 4 boxes with Bold between first and second change while italic on the second to the third change as well as bold/italic (combine) on third to fourth change; rest are burdening on the color/underline (which not workable in this way). --iFredCat 21:42, January 11, 2013 (UTC)
Making the bold and italics appear in the popout is an easy fix. We just need to add two lines to MediaWiki:Wikia.css. Although, I think Dinoguy has some different plans using <ins> and <del> to denote text which has been added and removed respectively, which would also make it easier for machines to understand what's being done.
If we want to set it so that we don't need to click on the popup to see the whole table, we just need to change the table, so that only three prints appear in each line. That should be easier now that they're ordered from oldest to newest instead of newest to oldest. -- Deltaneos (talk) 21:56, January 11, 2013 (UTC)
Yes, I would love if you didn't have to click on the pop-up window. --UltimateKuriboh (talkcontribs) 21:58, January 11, 2013 (UTC)
(EDIT CONFFFFLICT) Of course, it went smoother that way. But what if there is a card that never "delete" or "add" a line at all? That sure can pissing someone off if tried to using the certain process to make it work out perfectly. Damn that bast-* --iFredCat 21:59, January 11, 2013 (UTC)
The basic idea here is to use <ins/> to mark up text that gets added from one erratum to the next and <del/> to mark up text that gets removed from one erratum to the next. These tags are semantic, which is a fancy way of saying they help machines understand what's going on (like Delt said above), and they are automatically styled in most browsers - inserted text deleted text. For text that simply changes between errata, without any real insertion or deletion, the old method of using bold and italics to mark the changes should continue to be used.
Multi-row support is very straightforward to add; the only reason I haven't yet is because I've been holding out hope that I'd stumble across some method I could use to allow each card entry to wrap as it wants, while preserving row heights across all the entries. Realistically, though, I know there's probably no such method, so I guess I should just go ahead and add this (though it looks like it'll have to wait a bit =/ ). ディノ千?!? · ☎ Dinoguy1000 22:16, January 11, 2013 (UTC)
ins has its text-decoration reset in the default skin, so it doesn't have its underline in your above message.
I switched Card Errata:Exchange to ins and del, which are more stylised for errata tables. There's a problem with lore3 however, which is also present with the bold and italics method. There's the line
<ins>Each player looks at</ins> their <ins>opponent's hand, chooses 1 card in it</ins>
The portion "Each player looks at their opponent's hand, chooses" gets deleted in the next revision. But in this case it's syntactically incorrect to put a del tag at the beginning and end of the removed bit.
<del><ins>Each player looks at</ins> their <ins>opponent's hand, chooses</del> 1 card <del>in it</del></ins>
The tags are not nested properly and unless your browser is very smart, the page will break. To fix it, we need to use something like:
<del><ins>Each player looks at</ins> their <ins>opponent's hand, chooses</ins></del><ins> 1 card <del>in it</del></ins>
But that's not exactly correct either, since it implies there are three insertions, rather than two. -- Deltaneos (talk) 15:21, January 12, 2013 (UTC)
Delta, can you try non-linked red color instead of pink, it's little hard to read with all those in yellow background. --iFredCat 15:24, January 12, 2013 (UTC)
Thanks for pointing that out. Is there a different shade of red you think would should use though? If we make it too close to the broken link colour, people could mistake the text for links. I was originally going to make it grey, but it would look too much like the colour of unchanged lores. If you think the background colour of the inserted text should be different or not used at all, please say so. -- Deltaneos (talk) 15:42, January 12, 2013 (UTC)
How about dark color, so it can be easier to read - like green or blue (that can be mistake as link...) or brown? Hmm... Purple? Omg, why you, Wario...
DINOOOO, ARCHIVED UP YOUR UNUSED TOPICS! --iFredCat 15:47, January 12, 2013 (UTC)
The page is too hard to read now \=, why we didn't use underline to point the text that will be changed, and use Bold to point the change text, if any text will be removed without change we use delete on it, and if any new text is added we use Bold Italic on it.
btw, Italic text is too hard to see, specifically when I use it on ( . ) and ( : ). --Dlamash (talkcontribs) 16:19, January 12, 2013 (UTC)
Those are what I am using since I started my career. And that's only in Errata Box 3 and Errata Box 4. Too slow, Dlamash. --iFredCat 17:17, January 12, 2013 (UTC)
<u></u> is technically only meant to be used on text that should be underlined typographically, such as to indicate misspelled words or Chinese proper nouns. Although, there are other ways we can add underlines. <ins></ins> and <del></del> are used specifically for indicating text which has been changed. However we can style them to look however we want.
I think our biggest problem isn't how we denote the changes. I think it's having them overlap is the problem. Comparing more than two lores at a time is too messy. Comparing them one at a time works with a lot of things.

Sorry about the delay in answering; I was busy yesterday and didn't have the time to properly think through my response(s).
I really don't like the red coloring <del/> has in the errata table now; why isn't just having it strike out text sufficient?
<ins/> and <del/> as used on Card Errata:Exchange isn't the way I had in mind: for instance, the first marked-up change, "Both players show their hands to each other. You both select 1 card" → "Both players show their hands to each other and select 1 card", isn't really a straightforward case of text being deleted and inserted, but rather of it being changed; this just happens to be achieved by deleting the old text and inserting the new, and if I were the one marking up the errata changes, I would mark that particular change up using bold or italics. I had imagined <ins/> being used specifically for new text added after the previous erratum, and <del/> for old text removed in the next erratum (for example, I would mark up the text "(When the cards are sent to the Graveyard, they are sent to the Graveyard of the original owner.)" from the second "Exchange" erratum with a <del/>).
I really really like the idea of comparing only two errata at a time; it would potentially allow us to play around with the overall table structure in some interesting ways (primarily related to image placement). The main problem would be how to properly mark up the lores: in order to have them properly marked up for the comparisons, it would probably require each lore to be entered twice, once for the comparison with the previous erratum lore, and once for the next (I was thinking about ways we could potentially handle separating the markup for both situations from a single entry, thus not requiring any changes for the vast majority of Card Errata pages, but I don't think that would be feasible). ディノ千?!? · ☎ Dinoguy1000 00:42, January 14, 2013 (UTC)
Yo, Delta, when I started to work on Errata Table after "Ante", it started to stop working in the way it was such to be. Some site glitch occurred? --iFredCat 12:19, January 14, 2013 (UTC)
It looks like there's a few mismatches on that page. Every opening <ins> needs a closing </ins> and every opening <del> needs a closing </del>. That page has 8 <ins>, but 10 </ins> and 14 <del>, but only 13 </del>.
Maybe we should make templates ins and del, so users don't need to know HTML to edit. -- Deltaneos (talk) 20:22, January 14, 2013 (UTC)

FredCat, let me restate (again): I did not intend for <del/> and <ins/> to be wholesale replacements for the existing bolding and italics used on Card Errata pages, but only for straight-up deletions and insertions. For instance, your usage of <ins/> on Card Errata:A Cat of Ill Omen is exactly what I was thinking, whereas your usage of the tags on most of the other Card Errata pages you've edited are not. If you'd like a concrete example of what I mean, you can link me to a Card Errata page (or more than one) and I'll update it to demonstrate what I'm saying here. ;)
Dlamash: If there is editor interest in switching to such a format, I'd fully support it myself (since Delt pointed it out, I've actually grown to like it quite a bit more than the current method). Could we get other regular Card Errata editors (are there any, really?) to have a look and give their thoughts? ディノ千?!? · ☎ Dinoguy1000 23:22, January 14, 2013 (UTC)

Per Talk:Plus monster, I added Plus and Minus monster sub-types in CardTable2. Plus works fine, but I could not get Minus to link properly without redirecting Minus Monster to Minus monster. I don't know where I went wrong in the code. Cheesedude (talkcontribs) 20:20, January 14, 2013 (UTC)

It's only happening on "Conduction Warrior Linear Magnum Plus Minus", where it is set as type3. It lowercases the "m" on the other Minus pages. The template has been set to always use a capital "m" for type3, since the days when it was only used for Effect. We didn't think to change it after Tuner monsters began taking that spot too. -- Deltaneos (talk) 20:38, January 14, 2013 (UTC)
Ok, may as well wait until we have confirmation of "Plus Minus" then. Cheesedude (talkcontribs) 20:42, January 14, 2013 (UTC)

EF PIGS

Have you any idea how we might handle prefixes for sets that have more than one per region; one of E, F, [blank], P, I, G, S and one of EN, FR, EN, PT, IT, DE, SP respectively. It's a bit messy here. -- Deltaneos (talk) 00:38, January 20, 2013 (UTC)

I'd have had more vocabulary, had I thought to include A to EN. -- Deltaneos (talk) 00:41, January 20, 2013 (UTC)
I suppose the most transparent method from the perspective of editors would be allowing for lists of prefixes as you used there, though the code to handle it may not turn out too pretty given how the set prefix stuff is currently coded. That objection aside, though, thinking about it, that seems to be the only real choice we would have; everything else I could think of doing would have additional complications for both editors and us as template coders. ディノ千?!? · ☎ Dinoguy1000 00:54, January 20, 2013 (UTC)

Distant summonings

User talk:Look234#SJ subscription. Could you grace us with your presence perchance? -- Deltaneos (talk) 22:17, January 20, 2013 (UTC)

Also, following up from User talk:Jump Enemy#"黒魔導士", "B・M" and "Be・W・D", Jump Enemy and yugioh-wiki.net say that those cards are from Weekly Jump 2000 #1 and 2001 #27. I'm having difficulty finding scans of the covers of those issues. Are you able to find them? -- Deltaneos (talk) 23:28, January 20, 2013 (UTC)

I pointed you to this resource months ago when I found it. ;)
More specifically, 2000 #1 and 2001 #27. Neither issue shows a card - or anything else YGO-related - in its cover art, but the latter features some text in the lower right-hand corner that mentions the OCG. ディノ千?!? · ☎ Dinoguy1000 01:08, January 21, 2013 (UTC)
I had that site bookmarked, just not in this system. I was struggling to find it again.
It says something about a super gift (スーパープレゼント), which seems to correspond with what yugiohwiki.net is saying. -- Deltaneos (talk) 01:51, January 21, 2013 (UTC)

Judgment of the Light

Any source on the Judgment of the Light set card list ? --Veriteo (talkcontribs) 18:03, January 22, 2013 (UTC)

Nope, per [7] and the post under it (in the event you don't have an NAC account, that's someone asking the same question, followed by Ark dashing their hopes). I'll wipe the info here, if no one else's done it yet. ディノ千?!? · ☎ Dinoguy1000 19:15, January 22, 2013 (UTC)

dafuq?

Hey Dino, it's AsariUgetsu here. *__* I've logged out 'cause of this (the end of the post) and now I can't log back in. I forgot my password ^^' and I was sent a temporary password via e-mail, and when I log in with it, it asks me to pick a new password, but every time I do so, it asks me to log in again, and I keep getting looped like this. :/ I think Wikia's trolling me. xD Any idea of what's going on? :P 177.11.101.20 (talk) 00:13, January 24, 2013 (UTC)

R u sure u copied/pasted same PW from ur E-mail to here? --iFredCat 00:21, January 24, 2013 (UTC)
Yep. I tried many times, and even tried typing it manually. :P Although I do log in normally, it's just when I have to change the password that I go back to square one. :P 177.11.101.20 (talk) 00:36, January 24, 2013 (UTC)
Then it must be little glitch in the site, just bear with it until it's back on the feet. --iFredCat 00:46, January 24, 2013 (UTC)
*bangs on glass window separating us* AsariUgetsu!... No! You are so close, and yet seem so far... (You: *splat*) --UltimateKuriboh (talkcontribs) 00:50, January 24, 2013 (UTC)
Well, don't get losing in one path of the two... --iFredCat 01:12, January 24, 2013 (UTC)
Oh, Kuriboh, you came... So this crap really works! Although I'm afraid we'll never more be able to see each oth- (*crash*) Dafuq? Lol, this is thinner than it looks. Yay, I'm free! Let's celebrate!
Oh wait. F**k, never mind. 177.11.101.20 (talk) 01:15, January 24, 2013 (UTC)
Guess someone tripped over the set trap! --iFredCat 01:17, January 24, 2013 (UTC)
Tch, looks like we're in a tight spot here. Hurry, call the staff. 177.11.101.20 (talk) 01:29, January 24, 2013 (UTC)
