Standard Duelists are a classification of characters that appear in Yu-Gi-Oh! Duel Links. While Legendary Duelists are based on characters from the Yu-Gi-Oh! anime and manga series, Standard Duelists are mostly generic characters unique to Duel Links (with some exceptions like Brave Battler) or generic grunts from the anime (in the case of Sector Security and Knight of Hanoi). However, Duel World (SEVENS) is the opposite—where Standard Duelists are mostly minor anime characters, with one character being a generic grunt from the anime (Goha Soldier).

In Duel World, all Standard Duelists are functionally identical. Standard Duelists are distributed randomly throughout the four locations in Duel World. Their locations are randomized whenever the player changes Duel Worlds or reboots the app.

A limited number of Standard Duelists can appear in Duel World at once. The maximum number of Standard Duelists that can appear is increased as the player increases their Stage. While the specific Standard Duelists that appear in different series Duel Worlds differ, the total number of available Standard Duelists is shared between all Duel Worlds. Some Standard Duelists are exclusive to a specific Duel World, while others can appear in multiple.

Spawning
 +
A limited number of Standard Duelists can appear in Duel World at once. The maximum number of Standard Duelists that can appear is increased as the player increases their Stage. Initially only 5 Standard Duelists can spawn at a time; as the player increases their Stage in Duel World (DM), they can unlock additional slots for more Standard Duelists, up to a maximum of 10 Standard Duelists at Stage 45.

A Standard Duelist respawns every 30 minutes, until no more Standard Duelists can spawn. Alternatively, the player can cause all Standard Duelists to respawn (so that the maximum number are present) by using either 10 Duel Orbs or 1 Boosted Duel Orb. Standard Duelists will also all respawn when the player advances a Stage in any Duel World.
+
When the player Duels a Standard Duelist, regardless of the outcome of the Duel, that Standard Duelist disappears from Duel World. The total number of available Standard Duelists is shared across all Duel Worlds.

When challenging a Standard Duelist, the player can choose a Reward Multiplier of 1, 2 or 3. This number determines how many Standard Duelists are consumed when initiated that Duel, but it also multiplies the player's Duel Assessment and experience earned by that value.

When challenging a Standard Duelist, the player can choose a Reward Multiplier of 1, 2 or 3. This number determines how many Standard Duelists are consumed by initiating that Duel, and also multiplies the player's earned Duel Assessment and experience by that value. The additional Standard Duelists consumed are selected at random.

 +
Differences between Duel Worlds
 +
Different Standard Duelists appear in each Duel World. There are 8 common Standard Duelists who can appear in any Duel World, and each world additionally has 4 to 6 Standard Duelists unique to that Duel World. Duel World (DM) and Duel World (DSOD) share the same 6 unique Standard Duelists, and as a result the Standard Duelists present in each of these two worlds are always always the same.
 +

 +
Each Standard Duelist corresponds to a Standard Duelist in a different Duel World. For Standard Duelists that can appear in all Duel Worlds, they always correspond to themselves. If a Standard Duelist spawns in one Duel World, their corresponding Standard Duelist will spawn in each Duel World; likewise, if the player Duels against a Standard Duelist, their corresponding Standard Duelists will disappear from the other Duel Worlds.
 +

 +
Standard Duelists who appear in multiple Duel Worlds are assigned the same Deck in each Duel World upon spawning. This does not apply to corresponding unique Standard Duelists however, who are each assigned their own Deck independently.

Due to Duel World (ZEXAL) and Duel World (ARC-V) only having 4 unique Standard Duelists instead of 6 like other Duel Worlds, two unique Standard Duelists in the previous Duel Worlds do not correspond to any Standard Duelist in Duel World (ZEXAL) or Duel World (ARC-V). Instead, Josh or Daniel (who wear Domino High School uniforms) appear in those Duel Worlds, matching the Standard Duelist who appears in Duel World (DM) and Duel World (DSOD). From November 5, 2020 onward, Josh and Daniel do not spawn in Duel World (ZEXAL) or Duel World (ARC-V) while the player is in those Duel Worlds, but they can still spawn if the player is in a different Duel World when a Standard Duelist spawns.

A Standard Duelist's Deck is randomly chosen upon spawning, using one of several possible Decks for Standard Duelists. The pool of Decks used by Standard Duelists depends on the player's Stage in Duel World (DM), even for Standard Duelists in other Duel Worlds. Once the player reaches a Stage whose number corresponds to a new set of Decks of a particular level, the Standard Duelists start using Decks of that level.

All Standard Duelists in Duel World (DM), Duel World (GX), and Duel World (DSOD) use Decks from the general pool. Standard Duelists in Duel World (5D's), Duel World (ZEXAL), and Duel World (ARC-V) can either use Decks from the general pool or Decks that are specific to their own Duel World.

Originally, Standard Duelists in Duel World (5D's) and Duel World (ZEXAL) could only use Decks from a subset of the general pool (or their Duel World's own pool). The excluded Decks were mostly Fusion and Ritual-based Decks. Shortly after the release of Duel World (ZEXAL), when many Standard Duelist Decks were modified, this restriction was removed, allowing Standard Duelists in those Duel Worlds to use any Decks from the general pool (or their own Duel World's pool).

In the Japanese version, Standard Duelists not based on anime characters do not have names and are instead referred to by their defining trait; in the English version, each of them has their own name.

Mechanics[edit]

In Duel World, all Standard Duelists are functionally identical. Each time they spawn, they are randomly assigned a Deck from a pool that varies with the player's highest Stage in any Duel World. Even if the player increases their Stage, Standard Duelists who have already spawned retain their current Decks.

The AI of the Standard Duelists starts similar to that of the Level 10 Legendary Duelists to help new players adjust, but improves as the player increases their Stage.

Standard Duelists are distributed randomly throughout the four locations in Duel World. Their locations are randomized whenever the player changes Duel Worlds or reboots the app.

Spawning[edit]

A limited number of Standard Duelists can appear in Duel World at once. The maximum number of Standard Duelists that can appear is increased as the player increases their Stage. Initially only 5 Standard Duelists can spawn at a time; as the player increases their Stage in Duel World (DM), they can unlock additional slots for more Standard Duelists, up to a maximum of 10 Standard Duelists at Stage 45.

When the player Duels a Standard Duelist, regardless of the outcome of the Duel, that Standard Duelist disappears from Duel World. The total number of available Standard Duelists is shared across all Duel Worlds.

While the specific Standard Duelists that appear in different Duel Worlds differ, the total number of available Standard Duelists is shared between all Duel Worlds. Some Standard Duelists are exclusive to a specific Duel World, while others can appear in multiple.

A Standard Duelist respawns every 30 minutes, until no more Standard Duelists can spawn. The player can use either 10 Duel Orbs or 1 Boosted Duel Orb to cause the maximum number of Standard Duelists to spawn immediately. Additionally, whenever the player advances a Stage in any Duel World, the maximum number of Standard Duelists respawn.

Differences between Duel Worlds[edit]

Different Standard Duelists appear in each Duel World. There are 8 common Standard Duelists who can appear in any Duel World, and each world additionally has 4 to 6 Standard Duelists unique to that Duel World. Duel World (DM) and Duel World (DSOD) share the same 6 unique Standard Duelists, and as a result the Standard Duelists present in each of these two worlds are always always the same.

Standard Duelists who appear in multiple Duel Worlds are assigned the same Deck in each Duel World upon spawning. This does not apply to corresponding unique Standard Duelists however, who are each assigned their own Deck independently.

Corresponding unique Standard Duelist between Duel Worlds
DM DSOD GX 5D's ZEXAL ARC-V
Andrew Logan Wild Dan Oliver Henry
Christine Madison Erika Mia Emmeline
Jess Alyssa Chloe Ruby Margaret
Hailey Kylie Liam Theo Fani
Josh Evan Sector Security Josh*
Daniel Zachary Handsome Stan Daniel*

Decks[edit]

Duel World[edit]

Duelist Chronicles[edit]

Some Standard Duelists appear as characters in Duelist Chronicles events. The level of their Deck is affected by the number of times the player has cleared the whole board.

In Duelist Chronicles: Set Sail for the Kingdom, Standard Duelists also have Skills, with the Skill corresponding to the area in which they are Dueled.
