Study Maximum Summons "Volcalize Phoenix [L]" (2000/0), "Volcalize Phoenix" (2400/0) and "Volcalize Phoenix [R]" (2000/0) in Maximum Mode (3500). As "Volcalize Phoenix" is in Maximum Mode, Study activates its effect, sending a FIRE Attribute or Pyro Type monster from his hand to the Graveyard to inflict 1000 damage to Maguto, then prevent it from being destroyed by his Trap Card effects and allow it to inflict piercing battle damage until the end of this turn. Study sends "Hot" from his hand to the Graveyard (Maguto: 4000 → 3000 LP). As each player has a face-up Level 7 or higher monster on their field, Study activates the Spell Card "Chemicalize Centrifuge" to send the top two cards of his Deck to the Graveyard, then he can shuffle two FIRE Attribute monsters from his Graveyard into his Deck to draw a card. Study chooses "Onimaru Kunituna" (Maguto: 3000 → 2500 LP; "Onimaru Kunituna": 2500/2000 → 1000/2000). As Maguto took damage from Study's card effect or his Fish Type monster was destroyed by Study's attack, Maguto activates his face-down Trap Card "Surging-Wave Fish Slash" to inflict 500 damage to Study, then Maguto can choose up to three face-up Fish Type monsters with 1500 or less ATK on his field and prevent the battle damage he would have taken from battles involving those monsters this turn. Maguto chooses "Onimaru Kunituna" (Study: 4000 → 3500 LP). "Volcalize Phoenix" attacks and destroys "Onimaru Kunituna".

"The Sogetsu Connection" is the sixty-seventh episode of the Yu-Gi-Oh! GO RUSH!! anime. It first aired in Japan on July 16, 2023.

A mysterious masked Duelist who calls himself Commander Study has showed up at the Galaxy Cup! He has been farming points by picking off weak opponents. However, one man stands against him to stop his misdeeds. That man's name is Maguto Sogetsu!

Featured Duel: Maguto Sogetsu vs Commander Study[edit]

This Duel is conducted as a Rush Duel.

Turn 1: Maguto
Maguto's hand contains "Surging-Wave Swordsman Onimaru Kunituna", "Surging-Wave Swordsman Gokotai Bream", "Surging-Wave Swordsman Yoshimitsu Shark", "Surging-Wave Fish Slash" and "Hydro Cannon Big Bluefin". Maguto Normal Summons "Gokotai Bream" (0/1400) and "Yoshimitsu Shark" (1500/0). Maguto Tributes "Gokotai Bream" and "Yoshimitsu Shark" to Tribute Summon "Onimaru Kunituna" (2500/2000). Maguto Sets "Surging-Wave Fish Slash" in his Spell & Trap Zone.

Turn 2: Study
Study's hand contains "Blazebolt Chemistorm Fenghuang Volcalize Phoenix [L]", "Blazebolt Chemistorm Fenghuang Volcalize Phoenix", "Blazebolt Chemistorm Fenghuang Volcalize Phoenix [R]", "Hot the Combustion Spirit" and "Chemicalize Centrifuge". Study Maximum Summons "Volcalize Phoenix [L]" (2000/0), "Volcalize Phoenix" (2400/0) and "Volcalize Phoenix [R]" (2000/0) in Maximum Mode (3500). As "Volcalize Phoenix" is in Maximum Mode, Study activates its effect, sending a FIRE Attribute or Pyro Type monster from his hand to the Graveyard to inflict 1000 damage to Maguto, then this turn it cannot be destroyed by his Trap Card effects and can inflict piercing battle damage. Study sends "Hot" from his hand to the Graveyard (Maguto: 4000 → 3000 LP). As each player has a face-up Level 7 or higher monster on their field, Study activates the Spell Card "Chemicalize Centrifuge" to send the top two cards of his Deck to the Graveyard, then he can shuffle two FIRE Attribute monsters from his Graveyard into the Deck to draw a card. Study sends "Melt the Aqueous Spirit" and "Bolt the Conduction Spirit" from the top of his Deck to the Graveyard, then shuffles "Melt" and "Hot" from his Graveyard into the Deck and draws "Chemicalize Devil Burst". Study activates the effect of "Volcalize Phoenix [L]", shuffling a FIRE Attribute Thunder Type monster from his Graveyard into the Deck to destroy a face-up Level 9 or lower monster on Maguto's field, then if it is in Maximum Mode, he can destroy a monster on Maguto's field. Study shuffles "Bolt" from his Graveyard into the Deck and tries to destroy "Onimaru Kunituna", but its Continuous Effect prevents all face-up Fish Type monsters on Maguto's field from being destroyed by Study's card effects. As Study has one or more face-up Pyro/Aqua/Thunder Type monsters on his field, he activates the Spell Card "Chemicalize Devil Burst" to inflict 500 damage to Maguto, then if Study has a monster in Maximum Mode on his field, he can decrease the ATK of a face-up monster on Maguto's field by 1500 until the end of this turn (Maguto: 3000 → 2500 LP). Study chooses "Onimaru Kunituna" ("Onimaru Kunituna": 2500/2000 → 1000/2000). As Maguto took effect damage from Study or a Fish Type monster on his field was destroyed by Study's attack, Maguto activates his face-down Trap Card "Surging-Wave Fish Slash" to inflict 500 damage to Study, then Maguto can choose up to three face-up Fish Type monsters with 1500 or less ATK on his field and prevent the battle damage he would have taken from battles involving them this turn (Study: 4000 → 3500 LP). Maguto chooses "Onimaru Kunituna". "Volcalize Phoenix" attacks and destroys "Onimaru Kunituna".

Turn 3: Maguto
Maguto draws "Salvage", "Surging-Wave Swordsman Tanegashima Tuna", "Fusion" and "Raging Waves". Maguto activates the Spell Card "Salvage" to add two WATER Attribute monsters with 1500 or less ATK from his Graveyard to his hand. Maguto adds "Yoshimitsu Shark" and "Gokotai Bream" from his Graveyard to his hand. Maguto Normal Summons "Gokotai Bream" (0/1400), "Yoshimitsu Shark" (1500/0) and "Tanegashima Tuna" (0/0). Maguto Tributes "Gokotai Bream" and "Yoshimitsu Shark" to Tribute Summon "Big Bluefin" (2200/2100). Maguto activates the Spell Card "Fusion" to Fusion Summon by sending face-up monsters from his field to the Graveyard as material. Maguto sends "Big Bluefin" and "Tanegashima Tuna" from his field to the Graveyard and Fusion Summons "Dark Hydro Cannon Neutron Bluefin" (2900/2100) in Attack Position. As Maguto has no other monsters on his field, the Continuous Effect of "Neutron Bluefin" allows it to attack directly, and as Study has a face-up Maximum Monster on his field, monsters on his field cannot activate their effects and their effects are negated. Maguto activates the Field Spell Card "Raging Waves" to prevent a player that has exactly one monster on their field from attacking monsters while it is face-up in the Field Zone, but face-up Fish/Sea Serpent/Thunder/Aqua Type monsters on the field are unaffected by this effect. "Neutron Bluefin" attacks Study directly (Study: 3500 → 600 LP).

At this point, Study reveals himself to be Manabu Sogetsu.

Turn 4: Manabu
Manabu draws "Chemicalizing Impact", "Blue Burning", "Melt", "Bolt" and "Chemicalize Tropos Rapier". Manabu activates the Spell Card "Chemicalizing Impact", sending two cards from his hand to the Graveyard to increase the ATK of a face-up monster on his field by 1000 until the end of this turn, then it gains additional 1000 ATK until the end of this turn if he sent two Aqua/Pyro/Thunder Type monsters to the Graveyard this way. Manabu sends "Bolt" and "Melt" from his hand to the Graveyard and chooses "Volcalize Phoenix" ("Volcalize Phoenix": 3500 → 4500 → 5500). As Manabu has a face-up Level 7 or higher Pyro Type monster on his field, he activates the Spell Card "Blue Burning", sending the top card of his Deck to the Graveyard to decrease the ATK of all face-up monsters on the field by the number of face-up Level 7 or higher monsters on the field x 700 until the end of this turn. Manabu sends "Hot" from the top of his Deck to the Graveyard ("Volcalize Phoenix": 5500 → 4100; "Neutron Bluefin": 2900/2100 → 1500/2100). Manabu activates the Equip Spell Card "Chemicalize Tropos Rapier", shuffling three Pyro/Aqua/Thunder Type monsters from his Graveyard into the Deck and equipping it to a face-up monster on the field to decrease its ATK by 1000, but prevent it from being destroyed by Trap Card effects, and if it is a Maximum Monster, it can attack directly. Manabu shuffles "Hot", "Melt" and "Bolt" from his Graveyard into the Deck and equips "Chemicalize Tropos Rapier" to "Volcalize Phoenix" ("Volcalize Phoenix": 4100 → 3100). "Volcalize Phoenix" attacks Maguto directly (Maguto: 2500 → 0 LP).
