The Dark Signers are a group of mysterious duelists. Their powers seem to be polar opposites compared to that of Signers and their signature cards are "Dark Synchro Monsters". They appear to be the primary antagonists for the second arc of Yu-Gi-Oh! 5D's. Though not much is known about there origins or how they became to be formed, it appears they have been battling 5,000 years against the Signers repeatdly.

It appears that they are the gatekeepers to the door that leads to the underworld, and that door resides within Satellite where the first Momentum was built. Also according to Rex Goodwin story about the legend of the Crimson Dragon, their birthmarks represents the evil sealed within the Nazca Lines.

The Dark Signers, or at least their leader, apparently have the ability to brainwash other duelists. This is achieved by using a black spider to latch onto a duelist. The victim believes himself to be a Dark Signer, gains a spider birthmark, and does the bidding of the real Dark Signers. When brainwashed, the victim's deck is enchanted, and changed to a deck more fitting to a Dark Signer's. When this spell is broken, the victim's deck is restored to normal, leaving little evidence of the Dark Signers' involvement.

Dick is an example of one of these brainwashing victims. Before being brainwashed, his deck was simply a Toolbox Warrior Deck. However, upon falling victim to the brainwashing, his deck became a Dark Synchro Deck that used the powerful "Freezing Fitzgerald".

Another victim to fall under their spell was Trudge who dueled Jack (with Carly's help), he was defeated and returned to normal.

Dick is the first known Dark Signer to be introduced, although as just stated, he is not a true Dark Signer. Other Dark Signers that have been named include Rudger, who wears red-striped robes and is said to be the leader; Demak, who wears gold-striped robes and is said to bear a grudge against the Signers; and Kyosuke Kiryu, who wears blue-striped robes and once led Yusei's group. Two others, in green and orange (the orange apparently a woman), appear in the second OP.

When a dark signer performs a Dark Synchro summon, they immediately chant "When dark overlaps with dark the doors of the underworld will open. To a world without light! Dark Synchro!" Then the Dark Synchro monster's name.
