"Terrifying Battledrone" is the fifty-fourth episode of the Yu-Gi-Oh! VRAINS anime. It first aired in Japan on May 30, 2018.

Blood Shepherd has thoroughly studied Playmaker's Deck, and Playmaker is completely helpless before his "Drone" Deck. Having been driven into a corner, Playmaker decides to use his trump card to turn things around.

Turn 3: Blood Shepherd
Blood Shepherd activates the effect of "Battledrone General", Special Summoning a "Drone" monster from his GY to a zone it points to. He Special Summons "Drone Pawn" (600/0) to the zone the middle-left Link Arrow of "General" points to. Blood Shepherd activates the Equip Spell Card "Drone Launcher Unit", equipping it to "General". The equipped monster cannot be targeted by Playmaker's monster effects. Blood Shepherd activates the effect of "Launcher Unit", inflicting damage to Playmaker equal to the Link Rating of all Link Monsters on the field times 100, in this case seven (Playmaker: 4000 → 3300 LP). Blood Shepherd Sets a card. Blood Shepherd activates the effect of "General", letting a Level 4 or lower "Drone" monster he controls with 1000 or less ATK attack Playmaker directly this turn. He targets the Level 1 "Pawn". "Pawn" attacks Playmaker directly (Playmaker: 3300 → 2700 LP). As a "Drone" monster inflicted battle damage to Playmaker by a direct attack, Blood Shepherd activates the effect of "General", Tributing that monster to inflict damage to Playmaker equal to its ATK (Playmaker: 2700 → 2100 LP). As a "Drone" monster inflicted battle damage to Playmaker by a direct attack, Blood Shepherd activates the effect of "Battledrone Sergeant", allowing it to attack Playmaker directly this turn. "Sergeant" attacks Playmaker directly (Playmaker: 2100 → 1300 LP). Blood Shepherd activates the effect of "General", Tributing "Sergeant" (Playmaker: 1300 → 500 LP). "General" attacks "Clock Wyvern". As a monster he controls was targeted for an attack, Playmaker activates his face-down Trap Card "Cure Conversion", Tributing that monster to end the Battle Phase, then draw a card and reveal it. If it is a Monster Card, Playmaker gains LP equal to its ATK. He Tributes "Clock Wyvern", and draws "Cyberse Wizard", gaining 1800 LP (Playmaker: 500 → 2300 LP).

Turn 4: Playmaker
Playmaker activates the Spell Card "Cyberse Bridge", sending a Cyberse monster from his hand to the GY to move a monster in his Extra Monster Zone to a Main Monster Zone, then draw a card and reveal it, and if it is a Monster Card, Playmaker Special Summons a monster from his GY with the same Level as the drawn card. If the drawn card is not a Monster Card, it is sent to the GY. Playmaker sends "Cyberse Wizard" to the GY, moves "Shootingcode Talker", draws the Level 4 "Bitrooper", and Special Summons the Level 4 "Clock Wyvern" (1800/1000). As "Clock Wyvern" was Special Summoned, Playmaker activates its effect, halving its ATK to Special Summon a "Clock Token" (0/0). Playmaker uses "Clock Wyvern" and the "Clock Token" to Link Summon "Cyberse Witch" (800/↙↓) to the Extra Monster Zone. Playmaker activates the effect of "Bitrooper" in his hand, sending a Level 2 or lower monster from his hand to the GY to Special Summon it from his hand. He sends the Level 1 "Trash Hacker" from his hand to the GY and Special Summons "Bitrooper" to a zone "Cyberse Witch" points to. As a monster was Special Summoned to a zone "Cyberse Witch" points to, Playmaker activates its effect, banishing a Spell Card from his GY to add "Cynet Ritual" and a Cyberse Ritual Monster from his Deck to his hand. He banishes "Cyberse Bridge" and adds "Cyberse Magician" and "Cynet Ritual" to his hand. As the first effect of "Cyberse Witch" was activated this turn, Playmaker activates its second effect to Special Summon a Level 4 or lower Cyberse monster from his GY. He Special Summons the Level 4 "Cyberse Wizard" (1800/800).

Playmaker activates the Ritual Spell Card "Cynet Ritual", Ritual Summoning a Cyberse Ritual Monster by Tributing monsters from his hand or field whose total Levels equal or exceed the Level of that Ritual Monster. He Tributes the Level 4 "Cyberse Wizard" and the Level 4 "Bitrooper" to Ritual Summon the Level 7 "Cyberse Magician" (2500/2000). Playmaker Sets a card. "Cyberse Magician" attacks "General". As a Cyberse monster attacked Blood Shepherd's monster, Playmaker activates the effect of "Trash Hacker" in his GY, banishing it to negate the effects of Blood Shepherd's monster, and doubling the battle damage during battles involving that monster this turn. As "Cyberse Magician" is battling Blood Shepherd's Link Monster, it gains 1000 ATK during damage calculation ("Cyberse Magician": 2500 → 3500 ATK). Blood Shepherd activates his face-down Trap Card "Demolition Drone", Tributing a "Drone" monster he controls to halve any battle damage he would take this turn. He Tributes "General". A replay occurs and "Cyberse Magician" attacks directly (Blood Shepherd: 4000 → 2750 LP).

Turn 5: Blood Shepherd
Blood Shepherd activates the effect of "Capture Drone", Special Summoning a number of "Drone Tokens" equal to the Link Rating of the targeted monster. "Shootingcode Talker" is a Link-3, so he Special Summons three "Drone Tokens" (0/0) in Defense Position. Blood Shepherd uses a "Drone Token" to Link Summon "Sergeant" (800/↓) to the Extra Monster Zone. Blood Shepherd uses two "Drone Tokens" to Link Summon "Medicdrone Dock" (1000/←→) to the zone the bottom-center Link Arrow of "Sergeant" points to. Blood Shepherd activates the Equip Spell Card "Assemble Drone", Special Summoning a "Drone" Link Monster, then equipping it with "Assemble". He Special Summons "General" (2400/←↓→). The equipped monster gains 500 ATK ("General": 2400 → 2900 ATK), but while "Drone Pawn" is on the field, the equipped monster cannot attack. Blood Shepherd activates the effect of "General", Special Summoning "Pawn" to the zone its middle-left Link Arrow points to. Blood Shepherd activates the other effect of "General" to let the Level 1 "Pawn" attack directly this turn.

"Pawn" attacks Playmaker directly. The effect of "Cyberse Magician" halves all damage Playmaker takes (Playmaker: 2300 → 2000 LP). Blood Shepherd activates the effects of "General", Tributing "Pawn" (Playmaker: 2000 → 1700 LP), then "Sergeant", allowing it to attack Playmaker directly. "Sergeant" attacks Playmaker directly (Playmaker: 1700 → 1300 LP), then Blood Shepherd activates the effect of "General" (Playmaker: 1300 → 900 LP). Blood Shepherd activates his Skill "Drone Craft Force", reducing the ATK of Playmaker's monster by 200 for each "Drone" card in his GY, then increasing the ATK of a "Drone" monster he controls by that same amount. He has five "Drone" cards in his GY, so he reduces the ATK of "Cyberse Magician" by 1000 and increases the ATK of "General" by the same amount ("Cyberse Magician": 2500 → 1500 ATK; "General": 2900 → 3900 ATK). "General" attacks "Cyberse Magician". As "Cyberse Magician" is battling Blood Shepherd's Link Monster, it gains 1000 ATK during damage calculation ("Cyberse Magician": 1500 → 2500 ATK). The attack continues, and "Cyberse Magician" is destroyed (Playmaker: 900 → 200 LP). "Dock" attacks "Cyberse Witch". As a Link-2 or lower monster he controls is battling Blood Shepherd's monster, Playmaker activates his face-down Trap Card "Excess Lesser Linker", changing the ATK of his monster to that of Blood Shepherd's monster ("Cyberse Witch": 800 → 1000 ATK). The attack continues and both "Cyberse Witch" and "Dock" are destroyed. As "Dock" was destroyed, Blood Shepherd activates its effect, letting either him or Playmaker gain 1000 LP. He chooses to increase Playmaker's LP (Playmaker: 200 → 1200 LP).

Turn 6: Playmaker
Playmaker activates the Continuous Spell Card "Dimension Link", paying half his LP to banish a Link Monster he controls (Playmaker: 1200 → 600 LP). He banishes "Shootingcode Talker". As the targeted monster left the field, "Capture" is destroyed by its own effect. Blood Shepherd activates his face-down Trap Card "Drone Cordon". "Drone" monsters Blood Shepherd controls cannot be targeted by Playmaker's card effects or for attacks by Playmaker's Link Monsters.

At this point, Playmaker enters the Data Storm. As his LP is 1000 or lower, Playmaker activates his Skill "Storm Access", randomly accessing a card within a Data Storm. Playmaker obtains "Clock Spartoi" and adds it to his Extra Deck.

As Playmaker controls no monsters, he activates the effect of "Cynet Ritual" in his GY, banishing it and a Ritual Monster from his GY to Special Summon two "Cynet Tokens" (0/0). Playmaker uses the two "Cynet Tokens" to Link Summon "Clock Spartoi" (800/↓↘) to the Extra Monster Zone. As "Clock Spartoi" was Link Summoned, Playmaker activates its effect, adding "Cynet Fusion" to his hand. Playmaker activates the effect of "Dimension Link", sending it to the GY to Special Summon the monster banished by its first effect with its effects negated and ATK increased by 600. He Special Summons "Shootingcode Talker" (2300 → 2900/↑←↓) to a zone "Clock Spartoi" points to. As a monster was Special Summoned to a zone "Clock Spartoi" points to, Playmaker activates its effect, Special Summoning a Level 4 or lower Cyberse monster from his GY to a zone it points to, but he cannot Special Summon monsters from the Extra Deck for the rest of this turn, except Fusion Monsters. He Special Summons the Level 4 "Clock Wyvern" (1800/1000).

Playmaker activates the Spell Card "Cynet Fusion", Fusion Summoning a Cyberse Fusion Monster from his Extra Deck using monsters from his hand or field as Fusion Materials. He fuses "Clock Wyvern", "Shootingcode Talker" and "Clock Spartoi" to Fusion Summon "Cyberse Clock Dragon" (2500/2000) to the Extra Monster Zone. As it was Fusion Summoned, Playmaker activates the effect of "Cyberse Clock Dragon", sending cards from the top of his Deck to the GY equal to the combined Link Rating of the Link Monsters used to Fusion Summon it, then gaining 1000 ATK for each card sent. The combined Link Rating of "Clock Spartoi" and "Shootingcode Talker" is five, so Playmaker sends the top five cards of his deck ("RAM Clouder", "Cyberse Gadget", "Dual Assembwurm", "Bitron", and "Linkslayer") to the GY ("Cyberse Clock Dragon": 2500 → 7500 ATK).

"Cyberse Clock Dragon" attacks and destroys "General" (Blood Shepherd: 2750 → 0 LP).
