Question

This is pretty interesting. Apparently admin Rainbow Shifter says that you can remove insults, harassment, rudeness etc, just that you're supposed to archive normal or warning comments rather than just only remove. Different wikis can have different rules. I think the only stuff that every wiki on Wikia has to let you remove is anything that violates the terms of use. And I think she was inviting you to create a forum on that wiki, not this one. Well this is my most visited wiki, so I figured it wouldn't hurt to have one discussion here first. Greek name not shown!

Unofficial languages were removed from view on the card table. They only exist as semantic data now.

So stuff like "{{ #show: Swordsman from a Distant Land |?Greek name }}" = "" and Special:Browse/Swordsman from a Distant Land still show the Greek name, but you don't see the information on the card table.

Question

RFA Template, etc.

Hi, Deltaneos! Over at gaming.wikia they're trying to build an RFA process similar to what is on this wikia. The problem is that some of the components were deleted a while back; I've hunted down what I can, but there's still pieces missing. Probably most importantly is the ability for the archive to work properly.

Since you appear to be the primary person that created the whole process and templates here, I was wondering if you might be willing to take some time to go over things at the gaming wikia with a fine tooth comb from top to bottom? I know it's asking a lot, but I'd be very (eternally) grateful for your help. If you can, let me know if there's any temp rights you might need :) Thanks for your time and consideration! That system relies on Semantic Mediawiki, an extension that could be enabled per-wiki in the past. Unfortunately, Wikia don't offer that option anymore. It might be possible to achieve something similar with DPL (DynamicPageList). -- Deltaneos (talk) 19:45, February 5, 2014 (UTC)

I was told via special contact that you had to be contributed to the article or at the very least be an admin to ask for content to be attributed. As for a url in the edit summary, from what I read in the license it seems to indicate to me in section 4c that all the items in 4c have to part of the same credits. Chapter Links

Cheesedude told me to bring this to you if I couldn't sort it out. A day or two ago, I created pages for Yu-Gi-Oh! Duelist chapter 161, 162, and 163. The problem is, while 162 acknowledges 161 and 163 as the previous and next respectively, neither of those chapters has a link to 162 in their respective previous/next sections. Yeah, I see what's going on.

Short answer: I've just null edited Yu-Gi-Oh! Duelist - Duel 162 to force some stuff to update.

Long answer: You might have heard of Semantic MediaWiki? It's the thing we use to store information on a page in a way that other pages can access that information. In this case Yu-Gi-Oh! Duelist - Duel 161 and Yu-Gi-Oh! Duelist - Duel 163 are trying to get information from Yu-Gi-Oh! Duelist - Duel 162. Usually when this isn't working, it means one of two things:

• The page storing the information needs to be updated to send the latest information. You can force it to do this by editing it, even if you null edit it i.e. click save/publish without making changes.
• The pages extracting the information need to be "refreshed" to ensure they are receiving the latest information from the other page. You can force them to do this add ?action=purge to the end of their URLs. e.g. yugioh.wikia.com/wiki/Yu-Gi-Oh!_Duelist_-_Duel_161?action=purge

Manga

Yo, I noticed you've been working in the original manga. I finished working on R, so I thought I'd give some help in the original manga, since it really needs a lotta work. I've finished adding info for the last chapters of the Duelist Kingdom, and now comes the D.D.D. mini-arc. I was thinking, should we add something like "Featured Game" in the non-Duel Monsters chapters of the original manga? Not only D.D.D., but other games take place in the original manga too, like in chapter 135 (76 of Duelist), where Otogi challenges Jonouchi and Yugi to a game using trump cards. I did so for Yugi and Otogi's D.D.D. match, but after doing so, I changed my mind, I think that minor games like Four Aces can stay in their own articles. Or we can add something like "Featured Games" in the chapter articles, then put a "Main|Four Aces" thing. Oh, also. You think it's worth it creating individual articles for the duels and games (like Yami Yugi and Mai's Duel and Dark Yugi and Mokuba's pre Death-T Capsule Monster Chess game for example)? 'Cause, they are added in the chapter articles already. Also, I've noticed the "games" template has a link to "Four Aces", and between parentheses, an individual article for both Jonouchi's and Yugi's matches, for example; I added everything in one single article smoothly, I think there's no need to all those aditional pages. I considered articles on Duels and long games to be significant events from the series. Like characters, tournaments, etc. the information can be obtained by reading consecutive chapter/episode pages, but the reader might also be interested in a dedicated page with the overview, quick stats and all the cards used.

The individual four aces games articles, I'm not too pushed about anymore. I had considered using SMW to store information on games, including players and winners, so you could quickly look up what games a character took part in, what medium it was in (anime, manga etc.), if they won and who they beat. To set that up, every game was going to need its own page. That's also why I had been using [[Yami Yugi|Dark Yugi]], rather than [[Dark Yugi (manga)|Dark Yugi]] in the infoboxes. But I don't think I'll be bothering with that. Attributes Variant Icons

Hi DeltaNeos,

i was looking for someone like you. You seem to understand how to programm in wiki media. I've made these small images for the attribute which fit much better into flowing text. Of course they are unofficial. It's kinda weird that you revert something that is made specially for this wiki that can be used much better in text File:Dark.png or in lists.

I would like to have lists that show up like this: File:Minikarte02.png Can you help with that?

Is it ok if i revert your revert on attributes? Your reasoning for the revert is off. It's not that i created a new fictional card or something. Those icons are made that they are smaller and fit better. I could also make round ones if required.

Nope i added my icons (File:Dark.png File:Devine.png File:Earth.png File:Light.png File:Water.png File:Wind.png (Fire.png got reverted back from someone)) to the attributes page but they got reverted. The current http://yugioh.wikia.com/wiki/File:Fire.png should be renamed to creditsFire.png by an admin.

My goal would be to make a new "DeckList" that shows up something like this:

D Team Zexal card information is something I'm unsure what to do with. {{Manga card}} exists because cards from the other manga series tend to be different from their OCG counterparts. So we can document them separately and have less conflicting information. But as far as I know, the cards used in D Team are the exact same as their OCG counterparts, which makes the separation pointless. And cards that appear in both D Team and another manga series could have conflicting properties.

But I'm at a loss as to where D Team chapter appearances should be documented. If you still think they should go on {{Manga card}}, please say so. -- Deltaneos (talk) 20:34, June 21, 2014 (UTC)

Large set of deletions

There are a large set of redirects that need deleting, because they are theoretical setcodes which correspond the a series of sets being released in a language they were not. Rather than tagging them individually, I figured it would be more efficient to ask an admin directly.

Specifically, I am requesting that Spanish setcode redirects for all sets in the Champion Pack series from Champion Pack: Game Three (CP03-SP001 through to CP03-SP020) up to and including Champion Pack: Game Eight (CP08-SP001 through to CP08-SP020) be deleted. Card Page Redesign?

Honest answer; it's on indefinite hiatus. I should have focused on it more when I was more active. While I'd love to see it rolled out, I just can't prioritise it anymore.

Main card pages were like Gemini Elf (temp) last I was working on it. I wanted to move all non-OCG/TCG info to their own pages first. "Card Name (Bandai)", "Card Name (FMR)", "Card Name (manga)" etc. So that info doesn't get lost when the main pages get converted to the new format.

Problems:

• I was last working on creating separate pages for manga card e.g. Swordstalker (manga). There's a few things about that format I'm not too happy about, such as the "Decks" section.
• Indecisiveness every step of the way.
• I'm unsure about how to handle all the video game cards that have the exact same effect as their OCG/TCG selves.

Problem/benefit:

• We'll probably be getting Scribunto in the near future, which should make the code a hundred times cleaner, but would require rewriting a lot of things. I have barely looked into how to use this. Dinoguy might have more knowledge than me on this.

On this monster's Tips page, it is said:

"Activate 'Skill Drain' before this card is Summoned, in order to negate its effects. However, if you activate 'Skill Drain' after this card is Summoned, this card will be unaffected by it."

Is this correct? I mean, the effect that makes it immune to Spell/Trap Cards is a Continuous Effect, so what's the difference between activating Skill Drain before or after it is Normal Summoned?

Manga galleries

Sorry we haven't talked in a while, Del, but nice job on those manga card galleries, Del! Planning anything else similar when you're done with them? By the way, I didn't know Arkana's doll monster was called "Malice Doll of Demise" in the manga; is this an indication that Malice Doll of Demise is intended to be the same card as Doll of Demise, and it was just released a lot later than its debut? Well, I would like to do the same for the spin-off manga series, the anime arcs and all the video games, but realistically, I don't think I'll have time.

"Doll of Demise" only got the "Malice" in its English manga name. The Japanese anime and manga versions of the card are both simply "Doll of Demise". But there have been several cases where Japanese names have changed / cards been replaced between manga, anime and OCG.

• Same in the manga and OCG. Different in the anime:
  • "Mystical Moon"/"Full Moon"
  • "De-Spell"/"Cursebreaker"
  • "Shift"/"Monster Replace"
  • "Metalmorph"/"Magic Metal Force"
  • "Trap Hole"/"Chasm of Spikes"
  • "Soul Exchange"/"Cross Sacrifice"
  • "Lightning Vortex"/"Raigeki" (Debatable. And the only instance where both exist in the OCG.)
  • "Nightmare Wheel"/"Scratch Wheel"
  • "Viser Des"/"Holding Arms" (If you count censoring replacements.)
  • "Byser Shock/"Holding Legs" (If you count censoring replacements.)
  • "Poseidon Wave"/"Zeus' Breath" (Another censor. I might be going out of scope with this one.)
• Same in the manga and anime. Different in the OCG:
  • "Reflect Bounder"
  • "Eradicating Aerosol"/"Insecticide"
  • "Malice Doll of Demise"/"Doll of Demise"

I think they decided it was best to ensure the anime and OCG versions had different names, since they had different effects. Despite the fact that this often meant the manga and anime versions would have different names, while having the same effects or lack of. And I don't know why they decided to do it for some, but not all.

The games with Yu-Gi-Oh! Duel Monsters in their Japanese title. They seem to have later adopted the English releases naming convention and used World Championship in their titles.

I could be wrong, but I think:

• DM1 to DM4, WC 2004, WC 2006 and WC 2007 have no story. You just pick opponents from a list and unlock more opponents by doing different things.
• DM5 (EDS) and DM6/DMI (SDD) have kinda stories.
• DM7 (TSC), DM8 (ROD) and WC 2008 have their own independent stories.
• WC 2009 to WC 2011 (The 5D's games) might be safe to consider to be all be the one story.
• Most of the games with a story mode, also have a World Championship mode, which is basically the same format as the games mentioned in the first bullet.

If the EDS and SDD stories aren't worth creating more character articles for, we can just have:

• "Character Name (The Sacred Cards)"
• "Character Name (Reshef of Destruction)"
• "Character Name (World Championship)" for everything else. I don't think it will cause any conflicts.

I'm not entirely sure about the older games as I have only ever played The Sacred Cards, but I do know that Mai is "active" in the storyline (I vaguely remember running into her a few times, and she's in the Battle City finals where she is defeated by Malik). Are you referring to any specific chat hacks? Most likely they are added by JavaScript. As hacks are by nature unstable, I think it's advised that wikis don't enable them by default. Individual users can still add them to their own JavaScript pages; Special:MyPage/common.js for just this wiki or w:Special:MyPage/global.js for all wikis. But the user should be aware that the hacks could potentially cause problems in future, before doing so.

w:User:Monchoman45/ChatHacks.js are the only chat hacks, I'm aware of. You can use them by adding this code to one of the .js pages I've liked to.

They haven't been updated in over a year, so I can't guarantee they all still work.

Admins can give the chatmoderator permission to users. But to see what users can use the permission responsibly, the potential moderators would either have to be regular wiki users or the admin would have to spend a lot of time in chat. But I don't think that's something any of the active administrators are particularly interested in doing.

Hello, and welcome to the wiki! You don't need our permission to start a new wiki, though you should be aware that getting a wiki up and running is typically more work than most people realize. There's also likely to already be several wikis focusing on Yu-Gi-Oh! fanon - you may want to spend some time looking around and seeing what there is before creating a new wiki. Yeah, I think so. It's a major setting. It's an element of the RPG, but not the RPG itself. There's stuff we can cover on the world page, but not the RPG page and vice-versa. I've avoided creating that page myself before, because pinning down precise details on anything from that arc is a very tedious task. Yu-jyo summary

I didn't put that there, but I've been meaning to ask about those; currently, the web host for that site is just keeping it up for as long as he can, but when he's no longer able to, would it be a good idea to get in contact with him and request to host the summaries on the wiki after he eventually takes the site down? There's no harm in asking him. But anything published here is considered to be in the Creative Commons (cc-by-sa 3.0 more specifically), unless quoted or acknowledged as being anything else.

As far as giving him credit goes:

• To use them on episode pages as the summary, it would have to be released into the Creative Commons, other people would be free to make changes to it, making him just one of many authors. Crediting him would only extend to him being mentioned in the page history when his version gets copied over.
• If the summaries were copied verbatim onto pages/sections, left verbatim and acknowledged as being quoted from another publisher, then he could be credited on the page itself, assuming he's okay with that. But I'm not sure Wikia would approve of this site being used that way.

One other thing we could do is link to his summaries in an "external links" section. And if his site ever is taken down, link to them through an archive site.

I really admire the work he's done. And I wouldn't want him to have to abdicate any of his rights to it just to keep it online. -- Deltaneos (talk) 22:39, December 11, 2015 (UTC)

Toon World name

It's a bug with Semantic MediaWiki. If you look at Special:Browse/Dark Magician, for example, it lists a lot of information stored on the "Dark Magician". If you look at Special:Browse/Toon World, most of that isn't showing up.

Everything about the page content on "Toon World" does indeed seem to be in order. I'm not sure, but I think the problem is in the database, where an extra record has been added for the "Toon World" page. The code gets confused and tries accessing the buggy record.

I haven't properly fixed the problem, but I've at least updated {{card name}} to work, even when this problem arises. There'll still be a other places where information for "Toon World" won't show up correctly.

That database you are talking about, is it accessible by you, Admins? Or is something out of your reach? For instance, if the page for Toon World gets erased (not moved), and then recreated, will that had an extra record to the database while the previous ones are kept there (like if they were zombie archives)? Only the Wikia devs have direct access to that database. We've contacted them before when similar problems happened with other pages. I don't know the details, but I don't think they were willing to try directly changing the database. Probably too risky.

I just remembered that admins have access to a special page, where we they can run a function to "repair" the database. It used to take a few days to run. I don't see the word "recreated" in the linked log. Did you misread/mistype "restored"?

But yes, the distinction between "restored" and "recreated" is pretty much as you described:

• Restored: The page is brought back in a state it was before it was deleted. The original editors and times that the edits were made are all kept intact in the page history. ("183 revisions restored" means 183 page edits were brought back, which was all of them. It's possible to leave out some revisions when restoring a page, if necessary.)
• Recreated: A new page is made with the same name. And the page history starts afresh.

That rogue record for "Toon World" is pretty stubborn. It continues to exist in the database, even when the page is deleted on the wiki. ("Toon World" shows up in queries, even when deleted.) So deleting isn't succeeding in getting rid of it. Creating a new page is unlikely to change that. There was a nowiki being applied to the name. That was causing it to display code that should otherwise be hidden. It's also what was causing Japanese names to show all the ruby markup. I've taken the nowiki out, which fixes those two problems. But the reason it was there in the first place was to fix cards with "=" in their name, like "Damage = Reptile". Yep, with the exception of Asian-English (which falls back to English), if a given name isn't on the card page, nothing will be displayed in the gallery. The Eye of Truth

What did you mean by this edit? In the manga, the Spell only seemed to last for 1 turn, since Yugi was unable to discern Kaiba's "Crush Card Virus" strategy the next turn. Hey! Could you give me a brief explanation on the factbox, please? I've read about it, but I don't quite get it. Sometimes it appears, but not always. And some times has some red links on it, other times it doesn't. Should I hide it every time I see it? If so, should I edit a page just to hide it? What info can I take from it? It lists information about the page that can be used to help find that page and display its information on other pages.

Long explanation...

It lists semantic information about the page. You can also see such information at Special:Browse/page name. The information can be used build automatic lists and display content from one page on another without having to type it all out manually. e.g. Special:Browse/Amazoness Chain Master lists "Amazoness" as a value for "Archseries". If you want to see all articles tagged with "Amazoness" as an archseries, you can type this into the page editor: {{ #ask: [[Archseries::Amazoness]] }} She also has "1500" as a value for "ATK". And other cards have their own value for it. If you want the results to tell you the ATK for each card, you type: {{ #ask: [[Archseries::Amazoness]] |?ATK }} List of "Amazoness" cards uses a more complicated version of this.

Sometimes it has read links...

Similar to everywhere else, a red link means a page doesn't exist. If you see it on the left hand side, a page doesn't exist for the property. If you see it on the right, the value is a link to a page that doesn't exist.

Should you hide the factbox...

This is a bit hard to explain. Very long values, such as most lores will replace the middle with "…". e.g.

[[Draw a card|Draw]] 3 cards, then, if you … ctivate]] 1 "Sylvan Charity" per [[turn]].

Normally, that's okay, but in some Japanese names <ruby>Japanese name here</ruby> becomes something like <ruby> … by>. When you have an opening tag <ruby>, but no closing tag </ruby>, it can break the structure of the page.

{{Hide Factbox}} is used to stop pages breaking by removing the factbox. As a long term fix, it's really a poor solution. They should ideally all be hidden by default or all be visible without breaking things.

The red linked ones can be seen at Special:WantedProperties. It's best that they get created by people understanding of the different datatypes and when to use them.

Ah, that page was like that for a while after I edit it. I didn't understand why, since I believed I did nothing wrong. I noticed the giant factbox with that cluster of words, though, but was unsure if I should hide it. I purged the page and null edited it and it kept weird. But after a while it was normal again, which only confused me more. I even pointed it to Cheesedude, since he was around.

Yes. It shows the prefix for each language, when there is something in the infobox to indicate it has been released in that language.

The reason there's a blank cell is because the cell only appears if it is not empty. Normally "empty" means no text or HTML is output. It's probably a side effect of when I was monkeying around with the set prefix code in {{Infobox set}} (and wouldn't be the only one; I've had to fix three or four other things I inadvertently broke then, too =D ). Yeah, now it's not displaying the cell. But if I change that to | en_prefix = EP1, the same problem will happen. It will display the cell, but with no content.

And if a particular prefix is specified (like | en_prefix = ), couldn't it make it display, even though a release date or database id isn't given? Like in this particular case. The set doesn't have a release date nor a database id, but it does have a known prefix. So if I specify | en_prefix = EP1, couldn't it display the cell with the corresponding prefix? Although a : visually creates an indentation, a machine reading the page, will think the comment is a description for a term that hasn't been provided.

When you use :, you have to put all your comment on one line or use another :, so you don't have the freedom to properly separate paragraphs.

I think I've gotten these issues fixed, and I took the opportunity to do a bunch of other work I've been wanting to, so please let me know if you notice any new problems anywhere, Beca.

One of the changes I made is to fully support Japanese-Asian cards with the ja_prefix and ja_release_date parameters; to add a JA release to a set page, you'll have to change the current ja_prefix / ja_release_date parameter(s) to jp_prefix / jp_release_date first. Feel free to make that change on other set pages as well, too, since at some point all of them will be getting changed. A few other parameters can be similarly changed: es_release_date / es_sneak_peek → sp_release_date / sp_sneak_peek, es-lat_release_date / es-lat_sneak_peek → sp-lat_release_date / sp-lat_sneak_peek, fr/de/it/es_release_date / fr/de/it/es_sneak_peek → fr/de/it/sp_release_date / fr/de/it/sp_sneak_peek, and ko_release_date → kr_release_date. (There's probably one or two more I'm forgetting.) Yeah, I checked some sites for the date after uncondensing the parameters, and they said Italian was released the same day as the other European releases, so I reverted myself.

I added a tracking category for those cases when I updated the behavior of medium; they should all be listed in Category:((Infobox set)) transclusions with unnecessary medium now.

Hello Delta, Omega here.

About your removal edit on the page regarding Ra's ability, I don't understand why Yugi's combo cannot count as evidence. Atem wasn't holding back on his Duel with Yugi at all, as he stated multiple times. To say the idea that he simple just "didn't" do it would mean that he was holding back.

In every episodes regarding Ra, that ability wasn't ever used on an opponent's turn. And Atem not using it during his duel with Yugi, with the Magnet Force combo, would be the best confirmation on that it simply cannot be used during an opponent's turn. Hope I am not sounding rude. I just want to understand better on the matter. Also, I hope I am doing this talk thing right. Never did this before.

It's okay, you're not sounding rude. There is the chance he didn't think of it, even if it may seem obvious. It wouldn't be the only instance of a character not making the best move available to them.

It might usually be obvious, but this one is the most unique because it is the only Egyptian God ability that can't be used on an opponent's turn. Oblisk and Slifer's abilities have been used on either player's turns. Frankly, Obelisk's abilities are by far the most confusing. Its either destroy all monsters, deal direct damage, or gain infinite attack points. But going back on topic, those abilities have been shown to be able to be used during an opponent's turn, so I felt that maybe the info about Ra's Point-to-Point Transfer ability being unable to be used during an opponent's turn needed to be pointed out.

Real-world skills do not directly correlate to in-universe skills. Fictional characters, among the best at the game, make moves and Deck-building choices that in reality would be considered obvious mistakes. Like in the manga Kaiba seemingly not noticing he could use his face-down "Negate Attack", rather than threaten suicide if Dark Yugi attacked. Dark Marik discarding everything he had for "Rope of Life", with seemingly no way of knowing he would draw and be able to use "Card of Last Will". Plus Atem is only limited by what the writers think of. If they oversaw something, there's no way he could have thought of it. I might be overthinking this?

Regarding the Egyptian Gods' abilities

• "Slifer": The ATK/DEF cutting effect is one that triggers when a monster is Summoned, not something activated by the controller. It's only natural that it would work on both player's turns.
• "Obelisk": I've looked through the manga and it's only ever used on the controller's turn, except when used through the effect of "Soul Taker" and it only has the effect of raising the ATK to infinity. The anime added the other two effects and the only instance of it being used on the controller's turn that I can find is in Pyramid of Light when Kaiba was Dueling the simulation of Yami Yugi, but that seemed a bit ambiguous. Pretty much. That's not to say that everything that isn't explicitly stated is unquestionably considered speculation. There are reasonable ways of determining what effects cards have, based on how they are used. I thought in this particular case, it was too presumptuous to say a character not doing something at a opportune moment meant that they couldn't. Others may disagree.

Do you still think it's worth including the text that I removed? You don't have to feel pressured into saying "no". I am of the opinion that it could only be used on the controller's turn. To be honest, I feel like its something that should at the very least be noted, even as some trivia section written as a speculation. After all, we've seen Ra's other effects be usable on either player's turns, and saw the other Egyptian Gods able to use their effects on any turn, but Ra's Point to Point Transfer never being used during an opponent's turn is a unique thing, and could be noted to be one of Ra's weaknesses. After all, individually, all the gods share weaknesses, but when they are all together, they should be nigh unstoppable in the anime. Yet if Yugi used a combo that actually worked, then Ra not being able to counter that with Point to Point Transfer is a very important detail to be added. These are just my feelings on the matter, and I hope you can consider them.

Hey Deltaneos. Could you take a look at these changes, please? I've been keeping an eye on that user and their last contributions have been either reverted or strongly changed (some of them even by you). And I'm not the best person to evaluate those changes and since you have edited that page recently and are way more into the anime than me (I think), I thought about recurring to you. The thing that called my attention the most was the removal of the favorite_food argument and its reference. I found some places stating that the info that was there previously was correct, but I can't be sure if those are reliable sources and I would appreciate some help.

Anime,Anime

I'm trying to figure out why certain card pages Choas Distill have "Anime, Anime" in the first nav box when I assume that it's supposed to be just "Anime" based on the Dark Magician. Chimera-gui (talk • contribs) 18:30, May 1, 2016 (UTC)

It's a bug that can affect pages that have been renamed. The page gets treated like it is two pages. So the word "Anime" appears once for each page.

It is fixable by blanking the page that's being listed twice, renaming it to something else, undoing the rename and undoing the blanking.
