Ranran Nanahoshi (ななほし ランラン Nanahoshi Ranran) is a character in the Yu-Gi-Oh! GO RUSH!! anime. Serving as the head of the MIK headquarters, Ranran surveys the Alien Residential Area.

Design[edit]

Appearance[edit]

Full-body view of Ranran.
Lineart of Ranran depicting her from different angles.

Ranran closely resembles Rayne Nanahoshi from Yu-Gi-Oh! SEVENS. She is a young lady with indigo hair, wearing what appears to be a female version of the MIK uniform, consisting of a black-colored blazer that has a gold chain running through from the shoulder area to one of its buttons, and boots, with indigo-colored tights and gloves. She also dons black sunglasses and a hat as accessories to the uniform.

Personality[edit]

Ranran is ditzy and has a penchant for cute things, despising things that she considers ugly or simply not adhering to her standards for cuteness; as an example, she once originally worked with Nyandestar, but upon learning that the "cat" was in truth, an alien, she immediately broke off ties with her. In professional situations, she conducts herself in an authoritative manner, but this ultimately covers a very immature individual. Returning to her penchant, or rather, obsession over cute things, this notably hampered her dueling skills, as she ultimately built her deck based on how cute her monsters were, rather than craft a proper strategy around them. Due to her rather hysterical nature, many of her subordinates found themselves losing on purpose to spare her feelings.

After dueling Manabu Sogetsu in the Alien Residential Area, Ranran, though maintaining a smug and assured nature, begins to properly train her skills and take her job significantly more seriously. She notably believes that due to the MIK's duties and jurisdictions, it should be helming the efforts to stop alien threats such as Zuwijo zir Velgear and The☆Lugh, quickly getting her into conflict with other hard-headed individuals, such as Asaka Mutsuba.

Biography[edit]

History[edit]

Ranran had a love of cute things from a young age, a love that influenced her decision to chose her first alien partner when she joined MIK; instead of the largely grotesque, albeit friendly aliens, she chose Nyandestar, an alien in the form of a cat. Ranran deluded herself into believing that she was imagining Nyandestar's voice, and though they worked well together, Ranran eventually learned Nyandestar could genuinely speak. Dismayed by the revelation and believing it didn't make Nyandestar cute anymore, Ranran broke their partnership and attempted to put aside her love of cute things, though she still subconsciously included cute cards in her Shadow Flower Deck. Ranran rapidly rose to the rank of Director General of the Mutsuba Branch, and remained undefeated during her Rush Duels with her subordinates.[2]

First Arc[edit]

After Yudias Velgear defeated Zuwijo zir Velgear, and Asaka Mutsuba retrieved the stolen Earthdamar, Asaka turned the substance over to MIK. Ranran supervised the substance's initial confinement in the Alien Residential Area and decided that Manabu Sogetsu should no longer be left unsupervised before departing.[3]

Second Arc[edit]

Ranran's supervision of Manabu, Nyandestar's new partner, led her and her guards to the Coruffium in the Alien Residential Area, where they found Manabu and Nyandestar with Yudias, Yuhi and Yuamu Ohdo. Ranran decided to shut the Coruffium down in response to the recent unrest in the Alien Residential Area, refusing to consider Manabu's protests they needed to consider the wishes of the residents. Yuamu suddenly ordered Yudias to use his eyebeams, causing Ranran's guards to close around her and giving the three UTS employees the chance to escape rather than attack the MIK agents. Ranran and her guards pursued the trio into the Coruffium's arena, where Yuamu informed the crowd of Ranran's intentions, angering the aliens in the crowd, though Ranran again refused to acknowledge their grievances. After Manabu again raised concerns, Venus Ganiko suggested that Ranran and Manabu Rush Duel over the matter, a suggestion Ranran confidently accepted given her win record. However to her utter shock, Manabu almost defeated her in a single turn, and Nyandestar explained to Ranran that her Deck had no real strategy beyond the appearance of her monsters, Yuamu also adding that Ranran's subordinates had likely let her win and been unable to inform her of her Deck's flaws due to her rapid ascension in the organization. With Nyandestar's encouragement to keep believing in "the power of cuteness", Ranran made a surprise comeback by weakening Manabu's monsters and Summoning three "Blanc de Blanc the Snow Shadow Flower", though Manabu still defeated her with "Analyze Phlogiston". Defeated, Ranran agreed to allow the Coruffium to remain open, admitting to Nyandestar that she had been pleased to hear her voice again.[2]

Ranran watched from the sidelines as Yudias encountered Yuna Goha, Yudias unaware he had found the person he and the Ohdo twins had been searching for, and when Yudias challenged Yuna to a Rush Duel, Ranran joined the audience to watch the Duel. After Yudias was defeated by Yuna, Yuna took Yudias and the Ohdo twins' Duel Power, causing them to be pinned to the ground by the high gravity of the Alien Residential Area, something Ranran explained to them and Manabu.[4]

Deck[edit]

Ranran uses a Shadow Flower Deck. It employs a similar strategy of Special Summoning multiple monsters with the same name from the Graveyard as that of Rayne's Deck.
