Eliphas performing a Shining Draw.

Shining Draw (シャイニング・ドロー Shainingu Dorō) is an ability native to the denizens of Astral World in the Yu-Gi-Oh! ZEXAL anime which allows a Duelist to create a new card during a Duel.

History

ZEXAL II using the Shining Draw.

Shining Draw was first seen in episode 24 inside the Emperor's Key whereas Yuma and Astral utilized the power of ZEXAL giving them the ability to perform the Shining Draw to create "ZEXAL Weapon" monsters that can equip to "Number C39: Utopia Ray". The cards tend to be created with effects that enable the wielder to counter whatever cards the opponent has out. ZEXAL II and ZEXAL III retain the ability to perform the Shining Draw, in addition to their other powers (with ZEXAL III showing the ability to create the "ZEXAL Server" monster, "ZS - Banish Sage").[1][2]

Yuma utilizes the power Astral entrusted to perform a Shining Draw.

During the Legendary Number War arc, Eliphas a denizen from Astral World demonstrated the Shining Draw in his duel against Yuma several times. He asserted that Yuma cannot use this power unless he combines with Astral through ZEXAL Morph since Yuma is not an Astral World denizen.[3] However, it is revealed that Astral had given Yuma the power within himself to perform a Shining Draw of his own, which produced "Rank-Down-Magic Numeron Fall" that transformed "Number 39: Utopia" into a new form which countered Eliphas' high-ranked Xyz Monster.[4]

Dark Draw

Dark Draw (ダーク・ドロー Dāku Dorō) is the dark counterpart of the Shining Draw that is used by Dark ZEXAL to create a "DZW -" monsters that can be equipped to "Number C39: Utopia Ray V". "Chimera Clad" granted "Utopia Ray V" the ability to prevent itself from being destroyed in battle, as well as doubling its ATK and allowing it to attack again.[5]

Trivia

  • Thus far, the cards drawn via Shining Draw have only been played in the Duel debuting them and have not been featured since, suggesting that they may only exist for the duration of the Duel during which they were created.
  • Barian's Chaos Draw can be thought of as the Barian counterpart to Shining Draw.
  • The card "Creator of Hope" may be a reference to Shining Draw.
