"Farewell, Student Council President!" is the fourth episode of the Yu-Gi-Oh! SEVENS anime. It first aired in Japan on April 25, 2020.

Gakuto has been feeling unsure about whether he should acknowledge Rush Duels as legitimate or not. One morning, as part of his daily routine, he tried to predict his fortune by drawing a card. The card he drew was his ace monster, "Fiendish Commander Yameruler". This gave him an idea...

Summary[edit]

Ranze narrates Gakuto's morning routine; he rises early to arrive at Goha 7th Elementary's Student Council Office at 6:66:66 AM, draws a card for his daily fortune (drawing "Fiendish Commander Yameruler"), has a light jog in the school courtyard, meditates, and does calligraphy, before checking his paperwork all before class starts. As Rinnosuke holds a stack of paperwork for Gakuto, Yuga comes into the office and he asks if Gakuto can help him for a bit. Gakuto asks what's happened all of a sudden, as he needs to authorize all of this paperwork, but Yuga ignore Gakuto's protests and drags him out of the room, much to Ranze and Rinnosuke's shock. In an empty classroom, Romin strums her guitar as Yuga runs in with Gakuto and apologizes for the wait. Rook is pleased to see Gakuto as he zooms in on his face with a video camera. Gakuto asks what's going on, and Rook explains that they're doing a promotional video for Rush Dueling and they need Gakuto to be the cameraman, while Yuga and Rook Duel with Romin's vocals in the background. Romin promptly protests that they didn't say anything about her singing; she's a guitarist, so singing is a no-go. Rook is shocked by Romin's refusal, but Yuga just nominates Gakuto instead. Gakuto frantically refuses, protesting that singing on your own is prohibited at school in the first place and the only thing they're allowed to sing is the school anthem. Rook suggests they just sing the anthem, and Yuga asks how it goes. Gakuto is shocked that Yuga doesn't know it, and Yuga suggests Gakuto sing it for them. Gakuto clears his throat and stands tall, but his rendition of the Goha 7th Elementary School Song is completely off-key and causes everyone else significant discomfort; Rook can only ask if this is a song, while Kaizo is reduced to repeating "He's tone deaf". Romin flinches backwards and Gakuto calls Kaizo out on his rudeness, protesting that they tried to make him sing. Gakuto then realizes what time it is, and he asks them to excuse him, rushing off to stamp his paperwork before class...and then realizing that he's running in the hallway and lamenting that despite being the Student Council President, he's broken the rules.

Later Gakuto sits at his desk in the office with his Duel Monsters Deck in front of him, lamenting that he should be stopping the chaos that Yuga and the others cause, but lately he's been following their pace (imagining having fun Rush Dueling Yuga as he does so) and he wonders how he could do such a thing. Ranze and Rinnosuke both drop a stack of paperwork in front of Gakuto and Ranze tells him that it's just as he said. Rinnosuke asks Gakuto to look at the mountain of paperwork, and Ranze begs him not to be swayed by Rush Dueling and to return to his Student Council duties. Gakuto agrees with them, declaring that he can't waver and will have to draw the line somewhere. His eye is drawn to his Deck again, with "Yameruler" sitting on top and he picks the card up and realizes something.

At lunchtime, Yuga, Rook and Romin are watching their promo video, depicting Yuga and Rook facing off and Rook declaring his turn, drawing, and Summoning "Dragon Bat", with a "7" graphic separating their versus splash designed after the Duel Disk. Rook thinks it's perfect and Yuga is pretty happy as well, but Romin is doubtful that anyone will see it, but she spits out her juice when she sees the "like" counter skyrocketing into the tens of thousands and she asks what's going on. Yuga explains that he turned Kaizo into a specialized "liking" machine; Kaizo hovers above them tapping several "like" icons every second. Rook is appreciative, but Romin wonders what the point is. Rook suggests that they used Romin's vocals to appeal to her fans, but Romin protests again that she won't sing. Yuga wonders if she's tone-deaf as well and Romin storms away from the seat with her back to them, protesting that's obviously not true. Rook suggests dancing instead, dancing elegantly while they Rush Duel, but while Yuga seems fond of the concept, Rook quickly remembers that he can't dance. Yuga thinks for a minute, and then he decides that he's got it.

Gakuto is eating his own lunch at the office when Yuga rushes in with Rook and Romin, asking if Gakuto can change regulations so that they can Rush Duel for an hour and a half at school, and possibly change their anthem's lyrics to something cool that would get people excited for Rush Dueling. Gakuto holds up his hand and shakes his head and Rook asks what happened. Ranze and Rinnosuke leap in to flank Gakuto and Ranze declares that Gakuto won't be playing along with them anymore. Gakuto agrees; he's the Student Council President, so he doesn't have time for things like Rush Duels. He holds up "Fiendish Commander Yameruler" and he claims to have realized something when he drew it that morning. Yuga asks what Gakuto means, and Gakuto explains that "Yameruler" is his ace monster and is like his good luck charm, but Gakuto misinterpreted his message and took it for granted, missing the message it had been trying to tell him. Yuga and Rook ask what that message is, and Gakuto declares that it's to put a stop to Rush Dueling; to "stop the rules" ("yamero" means "stop" in Japanese, and Romin isn't impressed by the horrible pun). Regardless, Gakuto prohibits Rush Dueling on school grounds, and Rook angrily asks what Gakuto is saying; isn't he part of "Team Rook"? (Romin has to tell him there's no team like that.) Yuga is unfazed, suggesting they have a final match between them; if Gakuto wins, then he can prohibit Rush Dueling as he desires, but if Yuga wins... Rook cuts in, telling Gakuto that he'll have to let them Rush Duel and step down as Student Council President. Gakuto accepts their conditions, much to Ranze and Rinnsuke's shock, and Gakuto and Yuga activate their Duel Disks, ready to Duel -

But then a student comes in, asking Gakuto to review the month's School Beautification Poster. Gakuto is taken aback, but agrees to the request and postpones the match until after school, much to Yuga's surprise. Gakuto rushes out to fulfill his duties, Ranze and Rinnosuke on his heels. Romin asks Rook if he's going too far by making Gakuto quit as Student Council President, but Rook states that it's a big chance to spread Rush Dueling, since if Gakuto steps down, then of course Rook will be the next in line. Yuga and Romin leave him to his fantasy as Rook imagines being in Gakuto's uniform but then wonders if jumping straight to Student Council President might be too difficult, perhaps he should start as Treasurer, then Secretary, then Vice-President...

After school, Gakuto is ready for his showdown with Yuga, but is immediately accosted upon leaving class with a request for advice on the month's recommended books from a Library Committee member. Gakuto admits that he has an important matter to attend to, but he'll prioritize his work as Student Council President. But then a bunch of students pop up to ask Gakuto about topics from school regulations, to garbage bin installation, to school broadcasting, and as poor Gakuto begs them to ask one at a time, a student in headgear tosses him a rugby ball, explaining that they're a player short. In their own class, Yuga asks Rook if he thinks that Gakuto will come, and Rook wonders if he ran away. Romin points out that Gakuto is playing rugby, and the boys join her at the window to see Gakuto dodging opposing players in ripper rugby - still inundated with requests from the other students and still begging them to ask one at a time. Rook asks if this is all Gakuto's work, and Yuga replies "Who knows" as Gakuto is shown confirming safety conditions, dealing with a god in the restroom, and finally finishing as the sun begins to set. He, Ranze and Rinnosuke are all exhausted; Gakuto only has 15 minutes before he goes home and he needs to hurry. He's tired, but he asks himself what he's saying, as this would be like running away from his match and he won't do so. He slaps his cheeks to stay awake and then speeds off, with Rinnosuke calling after him and exchanging a worried glance with Ranze. Yuga, Rook and Romin are waiting in the Student Council Office; Yuga looking at his Deck, Romin playing on her phone, and Rook restlessly tapping his foot, and Gakuto arrives with Ranze and Rinnosuke in tow, out of breath and apologizing for making them wait. Yuga asks if Gakuto came running, and Gakuto asks him to excuse this transgression of rules, as he had to attend to his duties and they got out of hand, but it's all right now.

They relocate to the dojo, where Yuga and Gakuto stand on hexagonal mats, while Rook and Romin kneel on a spectator's mat, and Gakuto tells them to let him show them the Sogetsu Style of Dueling. He calls Ranze and Rinnosuke's names, and the Vice-President and Secretary leap in wearing Kuroko clothing to flank Gakuto, while Gakuto himself grins and flings aside his uniform to reveal his kimono and mantle. Romin is surprised by their clothes, and Yuga grins that it's getting interesting. He calls "Let's go!" and Gakuto asks him to allow him, and they activate their Duel Disks and call "Rush Duel!" The holographic dome extends around them.

Gakuto declares his turn, but it's Ranze who draws his card - "Fiendish Commander Yameruler" - for him. Romin is shocked, and Rook asks if the Vice President drew the card. Gakuto confirms that she did; in his Sogetsu Style, he won't lift a finger, but the Kurokos will be his hands and manipulate the cards for him. He looks at the "Yameruler" that Ranze drew, and thinks to himself, then Sets a monster. Rinnosuke takes the card from Ranze's hand and places it on Gakuto's Duel Disk, which projects the card image in a road of light. Romin is confused at the notion of Gakuto putting the card face-down, and Yuga notes that it's in Defense Position, so he won't know what it is until he attacks it. Gakuto then Sets the "Scroll of Simultaneous Salutations" and "Shield & Sword" in his hand (which also contains "Yameruler" and "Turtle Keeper of Traditions", "Scroll of Simultaneous Salutations"), and Romin asks if that's all, since Gakuto can Summon more monsters. Rook suggests that Gakuto didn't have them, and Ranze whispers to Gakuto that he can Summon his ace "Fiendish Commander Yameruler" and she asks why he didn't, but Gakuto doesn't answer and he ends his turn, much to Yuga's surprise.

Yuga declares his turn and draws "Dark Sorcerer", adding it to his hand also containing "Fire Golem", "Whispering Fairy", "Stray Familiar", "Child of Wind, Cyc". He Summons "Dark Sorcerer", "Fire Golem" and "Whispering Fairy". He immediately orders "Dark Sorcerer" to attack, and Rinnosuke flips up Gakuto's Set monster, another "Turtle Keeper of Ancient Traditions"; the holographic card flipping up and disgorging the monster, who flips around so that its shell faces Yuga. "Dark Sorcerer" destroys "Turtle Keeper" with a blast of purple magic, and Rinnosuke tells Yuga that he won't be inflicting any damage since he battled with a Defense Position monster. Rook points out that now Gakuto has no more monsters, and Yuga attacks directly with both "Fire Golem" and "Whispering Fairy", reducing Gakuto first to 2800, then to 2000 LP. Rinnosuke gasps that Gakuto's LP dropped to 2000 in an instant. Ranze whispers that Gakuto could have avoided the damage if he'd Summoned "Yameruler" on his first turn, and she wonders when he didn't. Yuga ends his turn.

Gakuto declares his turn, and Ranze draws three cards for him and holds up his hand; "Bandaged Bowing", "Fiendish Commander Yameruler", "Mountain Hermit Yur", and two "Turtle Keeper of Traditions". He Sets two monsters, and thinks to himself that Tribute Summoning "Yameruler" is his best move right now, but if he wins just like that... Ranze asks if Gakuto is hesitating, is he perhaps thinking about how Rush Dueling will be prohibited after he wins. Gakuto protests that he would never, and Ranze begs Gakuto to Tribute Summon "Yameruler", moving her hand to take the card for him, but Gakuto stops her with his fan. Rinnosuke looks at them in worry, but is snapped out of it by Yuga laughing. Rinnosuke angrily asks if their bickering is amusing Yuga, and Yuga claims to just be enjoying the Duel, but didn't Gakuto also want to enjoy this match? After all, he broke the rules by running to get here. Yuga tells the shocked Gakuto that he's always wanted to have a match with Gakuto as he's always been, a match with Gakuto Sogetsu. Gakuto grins and he agrees, asking Yuga to allow him to enjoy himself. He slides his fan into his sash and takes "Yameruler" from Ranze, declaring that it's telling him to "stop" his doubts (once again, Romin and Rook aren't impressed by his pun). Gakuto then takes his hand from Ranze, much to Rinnosuke's shock, and Gakuto politely asks them to step back, before Tributing both of his Set "Turtle Keepers" to Tribute Summon, dramatically chanting "You want me to stop? No, I will not! The one who decides will always be me, all according to the passionate feelings hidden deep within my heart!! Come forth, Fiendish Commander Yameruler!" Romin gasps that it's strong; it has 2500 ATK and DEF. Yuga points out that his "Sevens Road Magician" can surpass that if it uses its effect, and Gakuto wonders if things will go as Yuga says. He activates the Spell Card "Bandaged Bowing", changing "Yameruler" to Defense Position to draw a card. Romin asks why Gakuto switched his Level 8 monster into Defense Position after just Summoning it. Gakuto chuckles, telling them that they will soon know the reason.

He activates the "Commander's Decree" effect of "Yameruler", switching it to Attack Position. Ranze and Rinnosuke explain that "Yameruler" can change its battle position to prevent Level 7 or higher monsters from being Tribute Summoned until the end of the opponent's next turn. In other words, Yuga will be unable to Summon the Level 7 "Sevens Road". Yuga gasps in shock, but Gakuto warns him that it's too early to be surprised, and he Summons "Binding Chain", then Tributes it to Tribute Summon "Mountain Hermit Yur". Romin protests that she thought the effect of "Yameruler" prevented Tribute Summons, but Rook points out that "Yur" is Level 6 and is thus unaffected. Yuga wonders why Gakuto Tribute Summoned a Level 6 monster, and Gakuto notes that Yuga isn't aware of his intentions, so he'll make him aware. He activates his Set Spell Card "Shield & Sword". Ranze and Rinnosuke explain that it will switch the ATK and DEF of all monsters on the field until the end of the turn. "Yameruler" has no change, but "Yur" rises to 2000 ATK, while "Fire Golem" falls to 800 ATK, "Dark Sorcerer" to zero ATK, and "Whispering Fairy" rises to 1200 ATK. Yuga asks what's up with that, and Gakuto declares his Battle Phase, attacking "Fire Golem" with "Yur", destroying it and reducing Yuga to 2800 LP. Gakuto warns Yuga that there's more, and he attacks "Dark Sorcerer" with "Fiendish Commander Yameruler". "Yameruler" unsheathes its katana and attacks with "Fiendish Commander: Slash of Heavenly Commandment", destroying "Dark Sorcerer" with an energy slash and reducing Yuga to 300 LP. Romin cries out in worry and Rook gasps that Yuga's LP dropped to 300 in an instant. Gakuto ends his turn, and the ATK and DEF of "Yur", "Yameruler" and "Whispering Fairy" return to normal. Rook declares that Gakuto has a great strategy, and Romin asks if this is the time to be praising it, does he think Yuga can make a comeback?

Yuga chuckles, commenting that it's getting really fun, isn't it? He declares his turn and draws three cards, then Tributes "Whispering Fairy" to Tribute Summon "Sevens Road Witch", which emerges from a swirl of fire with 1600 ATK. Romin appears enchanted by the monster and Rook cheers that Yuga just needs to increase her ATK by 400 and attack "Yur" to reduce Gakuto's LP to zero. Kaizo then pops in behind them, cheering likes, much to their surprise. Yuga grins that Level 6 monsters aren't affected by "Yameruler", are they? Gakuto praises Yuga's move, but warns him that it won't be that easy and he activates his Trap Card, "Scroll of Simmultaneous Salutations". Once again, Ranze and Rinnosuke pop up to explain the card's effect; by returning one monster he controls to the hand, Gakuto can change all monsters he controls to Defense Position, and he returns "Yur" to his hand, switching "Yameruler" into Defense Position, who holds up his fan and greys out. Gakuto asks how that was, and Yuga praises his move. Gakuto thinks that Yuga won't be able to do anything as his ace has been blocked, but Yuga wonders about that. He sends a card from his hand to the Graveyard ("Stray Familiar") to activate the effect of "Sevens Road Witch", allowing him to Special Summon a Level 7 or higher DARK Spellcaster from his hand (which contains "Cyc", "Sevens Road Magician" and "Curtain of Sparks"). Gakuto realizes what Yuga's Summoning, and Yuga grins, then declares the "Magical Sevens Call" effect of "Sevens Road Witch", who swings her staff and blast the yellow beam of light down on Yuga, who chants "Cut open a road through the walls, the mountains, and the planets that block my way and press onward! Let's go! Sevens Road Magician!" Gakuto gasps "What?" and Rook cheers that it's here. Romin asks what's going on, didn't Gakuto block "Sevens Road" from being Summoned? Rook clarifies that Gakuto only prevented it from being Tribute Summoned, but Yuga was able to Special Summon it. The term confuses Romin, and Rook explains that a Special Summon differs from a Tribute Summon; in this case, the Special Summon was due to the effect of "Witch". Yuga adds that if the monster that the effect of "Witch" Special Summoned was "Sevens Road Magician", then "Witch" will gain 400 ATK until the end of the turn.

Yuga also activates the effect of "Sevens Road Magician", sending "Hydro Magician" from the top of his Deck to the Graveyard to activate the "Elemental Road" effect of "Sevens Road Magician", increasing its ATK by 300 for every different Attribute in his Graveyard. Rinnosuke calculates that Yuga has five different Attributes in his Graveyard, so it will have 3600 ATK. "Sevens Road Magician" powers up, and Yuga orders it to attack "Fiendish Commander Yameruler". It destroys "Yameruler" with "Sevens Magic", and then Yuga orders "Sevens Road Witch" to attack directly with "Sevens Punish". She charges forwards and launches seven discs from her staff, enclosing Gakuto in a pillar and shocking him with electricity, reducing his LP to zero as Ranze and Rinnosuke call his name. Gakuto drops "Yur" as Yuga cheers that he won and the holographic dome disappears.

Gakuto and Yuga deactivate their Duel Disks, and Gakuto contentedly states that he lost. Rook walks up, asking if they can freely Rush Duel at school now, and adding that he'll also have to give up his position as Student Council President. Yuga tells Gakuto not to worry about that promise since Rook was just being selfish, deflating Rook, but Gakuto states that a promise is a promise and he declares that he will step down from his position. Ranze and Rinnosuke gasp his name, and Gakuto thanks them for everything so far as they tear up and hug him. Ranze then narrates that Gakuto stopped being Student Council President, and they held an emergency election to decide the next term Student Council President...and Gakuto defeated Rook in the election, resuming his duties as Student Council President. Yuga decided to help him out, turning Kaizo into a Specialized Stamping Machine to stamp Gakuto's paperwork. Gakuto thanks Yuga; now he'll be able to watch over them as Student Council President without any worry, because they never know what kind of mess they'll get into without him around. Ranze and Rinnosuke jump down with a curtain and fan confetti over Gakuto, calling his name proudly.

Featured Duel: Yuga Ohdo vs Gakuto Sogetsu[edit]

The Duel is conducted as a Rush Duel.

Turn 1: Gakuto
Gakuto draws "Fiendish Commander Yameruler". Gakuto Sets a monster. Gakuto's hand contains "Turtle Keeper of Traditions", "Scroll of Simultaneous Salutations", "Shield & Sword", and "Fiendish Commander Yameruler". Gakuto Sets "Scroll of Simultaneous Salutations" and "Shield & Sword".

Turn 2: Yuga
Yuga draws "Dark Sorcerer". Yuga's hand contains "Fire Golem", "Whispering Fairy", "Stray Familiar", "Child of Wind, Cyc", and "Dark Sorcerer". Yuga Normal Summons "Fire Golem" (1200/800), "Whispering Fairy" (800/1200), and "Dark Sorcerer" (1500/0).

"Dark Sorcerer" attacks Gakuto's Set "Turtle Keeper of Traditions" (0/1400) and destroys it. "Fire Golem" and "Whispering Fairy" attack directly (Gakuto: 4000 → 2800 → 2000).

Turn 3: Gakuto
Gakuto's hand contains "Bandaged Bowing", "Fiendish Commander Yameruler", "Mountain Hermit Yur", and 2 copies of "Turtle Keeper of Traditions". Gakuto Sets two monsters. He then Tributes his two Set "Turtle Keeper of Traditions" to Tribute Summon "Fiendish Commander Yameruler" (2500/2500). Gakuto activates the Spell Card "Bandaged Bowing", allowing him to change 1 Attack Position Warrior monster he controls to Defense Position and draw a card. He changes "Yameruler" to Defense Position. Gakuto activates the effect of "Yameruler"; as it was Normal Summoned this turn, he can change its battle position, then until the end of Yuga's next turn, neither player can Tribute Summon Level 7 or higher monsters. "Yameruler" is switched to Attack Position.

Gakuto Normal Summons "Binding Chain" (1000/1200). He then Tributes "Binding Chain" to Tribute Summon "Mountain Hermit Yur" (0/2000). Gakuto activates his Set Spell Card "Shield & Sword", switching the original ATK and DEF of all face-up monsters on the field until the end of the turn ("Yameruler": 2500/2500 → 2500/2500) ("Yur": 0/2000 → 2000/0) ("Whispering Fairy": 800/1200 → 1200/800) ("Fire Golem": 1200/800 → 800/1200) ("Dark Sorcerer": 1500/0 → 0/1500).

"Yur" attacks and destroys "Fire Golem" (Yuga: 4000 → 2800) and "Yameruler" attacks and destroys "Dark Sorcerer" (Yuga: 2800 → 300)

Turn 4: Yuga
Yuga Tributes "Whispering Fairy" to Tribute Summon "Sevens Road Witch" (1600/1000). As Yuga Normal Summoned a monster while Gakuto controls 2 Level 5 or higher monsters, Gakuto activates his Set Trap Card "Scroll of Simultaneous Salutations", returning a monster he controls to his hand to switch all Attack Position monsters he controls to face-up Defense Position. He returns "Yur" to his hand and switches "Yameruler" to Defense Position. Yuga activates the effect of "Sevens Road Witch", sending a card from his hand to the GY to Special Summon a Level 7 or higher DARK Spellcaster monster from his hand, and if he Special Summons "Sevens Road Magician", then "Sevens Road Witch" will gain 400 ATK until the end of the turn. Yuga sends "Stray Familiar" from his hand to his GY and Special Summons "Sevens Road Magician" (2100/1500) in Attack Position ("Sevens Road Witch": 1600/1000 → 2000/1000). Yuga's hand contains "Child of Wind, Cyc" and "Curtain of Sparks". Yuga activates the effect of "Sevens Road Magician", sending the top card of his Deck to the GY to increase its ATK by 300 for each different Attribute in his GY until the end of the turn. He sends "Hydro Magician", so he has five Attributes in his GY (FIRE, DARK, WIND, EARTH, and WATER) ("Sevens Road Magician": 2100/1500 → 3600/1500).

"Sevens Road Magician" attacks and destroys "Yameruler". "Sevens Road Witch" attacks directly (Gakuto: 2000 → 0).
