Invincible, known as Immortal ( Fushi) in the Japanese version, is a concept in Duel Monsters in the Yu-Gi-Oh! and Yu-Gi-Oh! R manga series. It is first mentioned as a Type and later instead used to describe an ability monsters may have, which enables them to regenerate each time they are destroyed in battle. It is also a Type in Dungeon Dice Monsters.

In the English manga, it has been called "Zombie", "Undead" and "Immortal" in different instances. In the English-language real-world Yu-Gi-Oh! Dungeon Dice Monsters game, it is called "Invincible".

In Dungeon Dice Monsters, Immortal-Type monsters are color-coded yellow.

Invincible was not included in the Yu-Gi-Oh! Official Card Game. Despite its Japanese name, it is different from the Immortal Type featured in Yu-Gi-Oh! The Duelists of the Roses, whose Japanese name is 旧神, meaning "Old God".

In the manga[edit]

As a Type, Immortal appears in an explanation of the different fields on the Duelist Kingdom island. It was one of the Types that benefited from the Wasteland field.[1]

The term is also used to describe the regenerative ability of "Revival Jam", "Immortal God Slime",[2] "Vampire's Curse",[3] and monsters revived by "Call of the Haunted"[4][5] all of which are capable of reviving immediately after being destroyed in battle. It is not referred to as a Type in any of these instances.

While Ryuji Otogi was explaining the basic rules to Dungeon Dice Monsters, he said that the colors of the dice indicate the Types of their creatures. A chart showing the five Types and their colors was shown to the reader, with Immortal being yellow. (In the English manga, it was called "Undead".) Since the manga was printed in black and white, dithering was used to indicate the different colors. Actual colors were added in the digital color edition of the manga.[6]

In the OCG/TCG[edit]

There is no "Immortal" Type or a mechanic referencing the term in the OCG/TCG. The concept of monsters reviving from the Graveyard is instead always handled through card effect. The Zombie Type is applied in most contexts where an Immortal Type would be applied, though the aforementioned regenerating "Jam"/"Slime" monsters are Aqua-Type in the OCG.
