A monster is linked (リンク状態 Rinku Jōtai, "Link State") if its Link Arrow is pointing to a monster, or if another monster's Link Arrow is pointing to it.

A monster is considered to be Linked (リンク状態 Rinku Jōtai, "Link State") when a Link Monster's Link Arrow points to it, OR when it itself is a Link Monster that points to any other monsters. While cards like "Cynet Storm" refer to any Monster in this state, cards like "Tindangle Hound" care about the monsters a card is "linked to", which refers to each other monster pointing to or pointed at by an individual linked monster.

Co-linked (相互リンク Sōgo Rinku, "Mutual Link") is a kind of linked that occurs when two Link Monsters' Link Arrows are pointing to each other. For example, if one player controls a Link Monster with a Down Link Arrow in an Extra Monster Zone, and a Link Monster with an Up Link Arrow in their Main Monster Zone in the same column, then those two Link Monsters are co-linked.

An Extra Link is a chain of co-links that connects both Extra Monster Zones. This allows a player to control monsters in both Extra Monster Zones simultaneously. Since both are occupied, the opponent cannot use either of the Extra Monster Zones unless they remove a monster from one of those zones.

A player can perform an Extra Link, so long as the following conditions are met:

Examples
# The player controls a Link Monster in an Extra Monster Zone while the other Extra Monster Zone is unoccupied.

Example A: Linked Monsters
# The three middle Main Monster Zones on one side of the field must be occupied by Link Monsters.

# Each of the Link Monsters involved in the Extra Link must be co-linked with the other orthogonally adjacent Link Monsters involved in the Extra Link.

In that case, a Link Monster can be Summoned to the unoccupied Extra Monster Zone, as long as it is co-linked with the Link Monster in the Extra Link that is in the same column as it, and performing the Link Summon does not disturb the Extra Link (by using the monsters involved in the Extra Link as Link Materials).

In this scenario, both "Ib the World Chalice Priestess" and "Crowned by the World Chalice" are linked monsters that are linked to each other. They are NOT co-linked.

In this scenario, all of the Monsters are Extra Linked. Furthermore, if a Monster present in the leftmost or rightmost Main Monster Zone was co-linked with "Firewall Dragon" (An additional "Honeybot", for example) it would be considered Extra Linked as well.

The final result is a U-shaped chain of five Link Monsters, in which each Link Monster is co-linked with the monsters orthogonally adjacent to it.

Link State

A monster is considered to be Linked (リンクじょうたい Rinku Jōtai, "Link State") when a Link Monster's Link Arrow points to it, OR when it itself is a Link Monster that points to any other monsters. While cards like "Cynet Storm" refer to any Monster in this state, cards like "Tindangle Hound" care about the monsters a card is "linked to", which refers to each other monster pointing to or pointed at by an individual linked monster.

Co-linked[edit]

Multiple Link Monsters are co-linked if they point to each other.

Extra Linked[edit]

A special Co-linked state that connects the two Extra Monster Zones. Any monster involved in an Extra Link is Extra Linked. Additionally, any monster co-linked with an Extra Linked monster is also Extra Linked.

Examples[edit]

Example A: Linked Monsters[edit]

In this scenario, both "Ib the World Chalice Priestess" and "Crowned by the World Chalice" are linked monsters that are linked to each other. They are NOT co-linked.

Example B: Co-linked Monsters[edit]

In this scenario, not only are "Honeybot" and "Firewall Dragon" linked Monsters that are linked to each other, they are also co-linked with one another because of their arrows.

Example C: Extra Linked Monsters[edit]

In this scenario, all of the Monsters are Extra Linked. Furthermore, if a Monster present in the leftmost or rightmost Main Monster Zone was co-linked with "Firewall Dragon" (An additional "Honeybot", for example) it would be considered Extra Linked as well.
