Historically, Winged Beast monsters (especially the lower-level ones) usually have relatively low stats compared to the other Types, but is mostly compensated by its non-destruction removal effects. Typically with their bouncing effect to return the opponent's card to their hand and/or extra deck. Low-Level Winged Beasts were mostly capable at swarming the field or aiding its High-Level counterparts, while High-Level Winged Beast either have a strong protection (such as being immune to card effects) or a powerful removal effect.

They are widely supported by cards that can bring them from the Deck, such as "[[Raidraptor - Arsenal Falcon]]", "[[Swallow's Nest]]", and (before being [[Forbidden]]) "[[Simorgh, Bird of Sovereignty]]". Their support extends to card advantage as well, with tools such as "[[Wing Requital]]" and "[[Icarus Attack]]". In addition, several archetype-based cards extend their support to Winged Beast monsters that aren't part of said archetypes, which allows even cards such as "[[Tri-Brigade Nervall]]", "[[Raidraptor - Force Strix]]", and "[[Harpie's Feather Storm]]" to be used with different Winged Beast-based strategies. In the [[Extra Deck]], Winged Beast Decks can make use of certain monsters that must be [[Special Summon]]ed by using Winged Beasts as material, such as "[[Ice Beast Zerofyne]]" and "[[Tri-Brigade Shuraig the Ominous Omen]]". Some of them have no specific [[material]]s, which allowed monsters such as "[[Castel, the Skyblaster Musketeer]]" and "[[Lyrilusc - Recital Starling]]" to be used even in Decks that did not rely on Winged Beasts.

Additionally, Winged Beast often shared their support with the [[Beast]] and [[Beast-Warrior]] types, thus allow some hybridization between the three Types. This is most evident thanks to the "[[Tri-Brigade]]" and "[[Fire King]]" archetypes.

Lists

Winged Beast (ちょうじゅう Chōjū "Bird Beast") is a Type of monster. It first debuted with the game's first booster in both the OCG (Vol.1) and TCG (Legend of Blue Eyes White Dragon).

Winged Beasts feature in Structure Deck: Lord of the Storm and a number of them are present in Dragunity Legion Structure Deck.

In Yu-Gi-Oh! The Falsebound Kingdom, Winged Beasts are treated as Beast Monsters.

Overview

Winged Beast type usually represent creatures of flight, such as birds or bats, as well as other similar mythical creatures, such as harpy, griffin, and other winged creatures that does not fall under the Dragon, Fiend, or Fairy category. Some monsters who have a power of wind manipulation but does not have a wing (such as "Raiza the Storm Monarch") also falls under this category. The majority of Winged Beast monsters are WIND, but there are also several DARK Winged Beast archetypes, such as "Blackwing" and "Raidraptor".

Additionally, Winged Beast often shared their support with the Beast and Beast-Warrior types, thus allow some hybridization between the three Types. This is most evident thanks to the "Tri-Brigade" and "Fire King" archetypes.
