An effect (効（こう）果（か） kōka) or card effect is card text which is unitalicized (italicized card text is flavor text or lore), and which is not a condition, cost, or material. Effects modify how the game is played in various ways, and may appear on Monster, Spell, or Trap Cards.

Trivia

• In the anime (both original Japanese and dubbed), effects are often called "special abilities" (tokushū nōryoku). In the manga, they are referred to as both "effects" and "special abilities"; they are also very rarely referred to as "powers".
  • Jaden Yuki for the first season referred to his Elemental Hero's abilities as "Super Powers".
