# You must control a Link Monster in an Extra Monster Zone; the other Extra Monster Zone is unoccupied. It must have a [[Link Marker]] pointing downwards and be in a Mutual Link with the monster below it.
# The three middle [[Main Monster Zone]]s on one side of the field must be occupied by Link Monsters.

# You must control a Link Monster in the Main Monster Zone below your occupied Extra Monster Zone, with a Link Marker pointing upwards (to the Extra Monster Zone with your Link Monster) and a Link Marker pointing towards the centre Main Monster Zone. It must be in a Mutual Link with both the monsters above and beside it in the centre Main Monster Zone.
# Each of the Link Monsters involved in the Extra Link must be in a Mutual Link with the orthogonally adjacent Link Monsters that are also involved in the Extra Link.

# You must control a Link Monster in your centre Main Monster Zone, with Link Markers pointing both left and right. It must be in a Mutual Link with both monsters beside it.
# The Link Monster involved in the Extra Link occupying the Main Monster Zone in the same [[column]] as the unoccupied Extra Monster Zone must have a Link Marker pointing to that unoccupied Zone.

# You must control a Link Monster on the other side of your centre Main Monster Zone, with Link Markers pointing upwards (to the unoccupied Extra Monster Zone) and a Link Marker pointing towards the centre Main Monster Zone. It must be in a Mutual Link with the monster in the centre Main Monster Zone.
# The Link Monster to be Summoned to the unoccupied Extra Monster Zone would be in a Mutual Link with the monster involved in the Extra Link that is in the same column as it, and Summoning it would not disturb the setup of the Extra Link (e.g. by using the monsters involved in the Extra Link as [[Link Material]]s).

# To use the other Extra Monster Zone and complete the Extra Link, you must Summon a Link Monster with a Link Marker pointing downwards (to the Main Monster Zone with your Link Monster). The Summoned monster must be in a Mutual Link with the monster below it. However, the Link Summon cannot disturb Mutual Links of the other Link Monsters involved in the Extra Link. (i.e. You cannot use the Link Monsters involved in the Extra Link as [[Link Material]]s.)

If all of the above conditions are fulfilled, the player can Special Summon a monster to the unoccupied Extra Monster Zone, thus performing an Extra Link.

The final result is a U-shaped chain of Link Monsters, in which all the Link Monsters involved are in a Mutual Link with the Link Monsters around it.

Link State

A monster is in a Linked State (リンクじょうたい, Rinku Jōtai) if its Link Marker is pointing to a monster, or if it has at least one Link Monster's Link Marker pointing to it.

Mutual Link

A Mutual Link (そうリンク, Sougo Rinku) is a kind of Link State that occurs when two Link Monsters' Link Markers are pointing to each other. For example, if one player controls a Link Monster with a Down Link Marker in an Extra Monster Zone, and a Link Monster with an Up Link Marker in their Main Monster Zone in the same column, those two Link Monsters are in a Mutual Link.

Extra Link

An Extra Link enables a player to occupy both Extra Monster Zones simultaneously. A player can perform an Extra Link, so long as the following conditions are met:

  1. You must control a Link Monster in an Extra Monster Zone; the other Extra Monster Zone is unoccupied. It must have a Link Marker pointing downwards and be in a Mutual Link with the monster below it.
  2. You must control a Link Monster in the Main Monster Zone below your occupied Extra Monster Zone, with a Link Marker pointing upwards (to the Extra Monster Zone with your Link Monster) and a Link Marker pointing towards the centre Main Monster Zone. It must be in a Mutual Link with both the monsters above and beside it in the centre Main Monster Zone.
  3. You must control a Link Monster in your centre Main Monster Zone, with Link Markers pointing both left and right. It must be in a Mutual Link with both monsters beside it.
  4. You must control a Link Monster on the other side of your centre Main Monster Zone, with Link Markers pointing upwards (to the unoccupied Extra Monster Zone) and a Link Marker pointing towards the centre Main Monster Zone. It must be in a Mutual Link with the monster in the centre Main Monster Zone.
  5. To use the other Extra Monster Zone and complete the Extra Link, you must Summon a Link Monster with a Link Marker pointing downwards (to the Main Monster Zone with your Link Monster). The Summoned monster must be in a Mutual Link with the monster below it. However, the Link Summon cannot disturb Mutual Links of the other Link Monsters involved in the Extra Link. (i.e. You cannot use the Link Monsters involved in the Extra Link as Link Materials.)

The final result is a U-shaped chain of Link Monsters, in which all the Link Monsters involved are in a Mutual Link with the Link Monsters around it.
