Cards that Discard for an Effect nearly always have the discard part after the cost, excluding cases where the card has no cost, like "Card Destruction".

The "Dark World" series of Effect Monsters rely on being discarded by card effects, the support card "Dark Deal" working to trigger the discard as if your opponent's card effect were causing the discard.

Discarding for an effect will NOT trigger effects that include Destroy, so cards like "Sacred Phoenix of Nephthys" or "Geartown" won't activate if discarded.
