Effect

A card effect is an effect in the game introduced by a specific monster card, excluding the condition and cost of that card.

It is written below the Type of Monster and special abilities are written here. Normal Monsters have only a short description about the card, and have no effect on game play.

Nearly every area of the Duel is capable of being handicapped or boosted by a card effect. The primary focus of card abilities is usually the field, such as Penguin Soldier and Thunder King Rai-Oh.

Trivia

• In the Japanese anime, card effects are often called "special abilities" (tokushū nōryoku). In the manga, they are referred to as both "effects" and "special abilities"; they are also very rarely referred to as "powers".
