"This card cannot be used in a Duel" (written "Not usable in Official Duels" (※公式デュエルには使用できません) in the ''OCG'') states that the card cannot be used in a Duel in any way (only specifically Official Duels in the ''OCG''), and as such is classified as [[Illegal]]. Limitation Text is the name given to the text sometimes displayed in the bottom-left of a card, which is used in lieu of a Card Number, and details special limitations for when that card may be used.

There are currently four types of text used in the TCG and two types in the OCG.

This card cannot be used in a Duel

"This card cannot be used in a Duel" (written "Not usable in Official Duels" (※公式デュエルには使用できません) in the OCG) states that the card cannot be used in a Duel in any way (only specifically Official Duels in the OCG), and as such is classified as Illegal. This is the most common type of Limitation Text, and is used on the original Egyptian God cards, all cards in the Match Winners series (except Victory Dragon), the promotional cards given out at the Second National Conference, "Voyage to the Kingdom", "The Kingdom", "The Glory of the King's Hand", "Creator of Hope", "Winning Formula", and "Card of Last Will". Several Giant Cards and Case Toppers also use this text to state that only that particular copy cannot be used in a Duel, due to its nonstandard size.

This card cannot be in a Deck

"This card cannot be in a Deck" (written "Not usable in Deck structure" (※デッキ構築には使用できません) in the OCG) states that the card is Legal, but cannot be used in either the Side Deck, Main Deck or Extra Deck. This is used on all release Token Monsters.

Not usable in Official Duels

"Not usable in Official Duels" states that the card in question cannot be used in Official Duels (i.e. Duels in Events Sanctioned by Konami), but can still be used in casual or friendly Duels, and as such is classified as Illegal. This is only used in the TCG on "Get Your Game On!".

Not an Official Yu-Gi-Oh! TCG Card

"Not an Official Yu-Gi-Oh! TCG Card" states that the card is not officially a released TCG card. It thus cannot be used in any TCG tournaments and is classified as Illegal. This was only used on the Upper Deck Entertainment promotional "The Seal of Orichalcos", which was specifically made for and used at the Duel the Master 2005 Event, hosted by the then-distributors of the TCG.
