History
+
;Yu-Gi-Oh! SEVENS
In the early stages of the game, Sea Serpent-Type monsters and Fish-Type monsters acted as a pair, with Fish-Type monsters being weaker lower-Level monsters, and Sea Serpent-Type monsters were the more powerful higher-Level monsters. (This is equivalent to the old relationship between Dinosaur-Type monsters and Reptile-Type monsters).

* Yujin Goha

Prior to the release of Raging Battle , the only support card Sea Serpent-Type monsters had was "Umi" (which was later replaced in usage by "A Legendary Ocean", which does not support them). Raging Battle introduced the Sea Serpent support cards "Spined Gillman", "Mermaid Archer" and "Deep Sea Diva", with the latter being the first card to exclusively support Sea Serpents. In contrast to early Sea Serpents, which were generally very strong high-Level monsters, the new Sea Serpents and their support focus on low-Level monsters and swarming, which allows for a viable Sea Serpent-based Deck.

In Photon Shockwave and Generation Force, additional support was introduced for Sea Serpent-Type monsters, including "Shark Stickers", "Fish and Kicks", and "Oh F!sh!". After Realm of the Sea Emperor and Abyss Rising, Sea Serpent-Type monsters became competitive with the creation of the "Merlantean" Deck.

Levia-Dragon - Daedalus
"Levia-Dragon - Daedalus", a Sea Serpent monster.

Sea Serpent (かいりゅう Kairyū, "Sea Dragon") is a Type of Monster Card.

Overview[edit]

Sea Serpent monsters are typically depicted as sea dragons or marine reptiles, though some Sea Serpent monsters (particularly lower-level ones) were also depicted as fishmen as well as merman and mermaid, and thus shared characteristic with the related Fish and Aqua types. Most of Sea Serpent were WATER, though a handful of Sea Serpents of other main attributes also exists.

In terms of gameplay, Sea Serpent monsters often utilize Discard or similar effects to gain an advantage, with the low-level monsters often have a beneficial effect when being used as a cost for certain effects of high-level monsters. Though due to the relatively low member count, they were typically played alongsides the Fish and Aqua types, all of which shared generic WATER support to help supplement the grind game.

In Rush Duel, Sea Serpent monsters usually have an effect to manipulate Graveyard, either by shuffling cards in GY as a cost to activate an effect or gains beneficial effect while having no cards in GY.

Icons[edit]

These are icons used to represent the Sea Serpent Type in various video games. They mostly depict either a generic eel-like creature, or "Levia-Dragon - Daedalus". In Capsule Monster Coliseum (where it is nused as the only member is the unobtainable "Kairyu-Shin"), it is very similar to the Dragon icon, perhaps alluding to the Type's Japanese name.
