It has been suggested that Can I shuffle face-down Cards? be merged into this article. (discuss) The reason given was: Does it really need a separate article? |
To say that a card is face-down, is to say the back part of the card is facing up. When a Monster Card is face-down, it can only be horizontal (i.e., in Defense Position). You can only have a face-down monster in Attack Position by the effect of "Darkness Approaches" or by the effect of Karakuri Strategist mdl 248 “Nishipachi” by selecting a face-down Defense Position monster already on the field.
When a Spell or Trap Card is face-down, it is always vertical.
When any card is face-down, unless specifically mentioned by a card effect, its controller is not obligated to disclose any details of that card to his/her opponent, even if that card was face-up on the field a short time ago.
Monster Effects can not be activated Face-Down unless it says so on the card (e.g. "Big Shield Gardna").
Face-down monsters have no name, type, attribute, ATK, DEF, Level until they are flipped face up.
Face-down cards cannot carry counters. Flipping a card face-down removes counters.
If a card only specifies face-down cards without saying where, it is implied to only mean face-down on the field (e.g. "Silent Abyss").
